Adam Lambert Promises ‘Less Campy, More Primal’ New Album; Talks Lady Gaga, ‘Idol’ Performance

THR: You tweeted about recently working with songwriter Ryan Tedder, what else can you tell us about your new album?

Lambert: I think if anything, it might be a little less campy than the last one. With [For Your Entertainment], I really wanted to go high glam; it was always a vibe and a concept I was in love with and I did it for a year. I think evolution is good and I’m attracted to the slightly more serious… not so much fantasy or a mask put on — which is fun, great f—ing rock-n-roll — but I’m very drawn to music and artists that are singing from the heart about real things.

Lady Antebellum hasn’t let success go to their heads

Editor’s note: Former “American Idol” contestant Carmen Rasmusen Herbert writes about her favorite entertainers in her column “What I Love About …”

I’ve been back and forth from Nashville more times than I can count. One of the first songwriting guru’s I was fortunate enough to work with was Victoria Shaw.

I’d go back and forth from their little studio just off of Music Row, and occasionally bump into other female hopefuls paying their dues and honing their writing and performing skills.

‘Idol’s’ Katharine McPhee goes for bigger noise in O.C.

Like many “American Idol” runners-up, Katharine McPhee has had a busier career than some of the show’s winners. It’s been a whirl of albums, TV roles and concerts for the 26-year-old Sherman Oaks native since she wowed “AI” fans with her soulful interpretations of classics such as “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” back in 2006.

And in a couple of days, McPhee hops on a plane to the West Coast to attend to a new facet of her career: singing in concert with a symphony orchestra. She’ll perform an evening of Great American Songbook standards, musical-theater favorites and pop songs with the Pacific Symphony in Segerstrom Concert Hall from March 17-19.

We caught up with the busy young star in New York on Thursday to talk about her career so far.
