Lauren should not have given her opinion on who she thinks will win this season or even necessarily who her favorites are. Carrie Underwood never revealed in any season who she favored or who she thought would win (she does admit that she votes). Carrie said that during S4 she would hear certain celebrities were not supporting her and that it hurt her feelings so she does not want to hurt anyone elses feelings. Although admitting she had certain favorites, Carrie would not make them public. Lauren should have adhered to the “Carrie rule” for ex-idols.

Lauren is her own person and doesn’t need to follow a “rule” that someone else set for themselves.  If Carrie got her feelings hurt because some celebrity didn’t support her than that’s on Carrie and actually speaks to her lack of maturity while on the show.  No one is going to get 100% support, no matter who they are.

These contestants really need to understand that not everyone is going to like them, support them or believe in them. In fact, coming out of the show they’ll have people who will absolutely hate them, if for no other reason than they may have done better than someone else’s favorite or they get an opportunity that someone else didn’t.  They are forever in competition with every single idol who ever stepped on that stage, regardless of season, genre, or what place they come in.

The Idol bubble is a very bizarre place and one that no matter how far these artists go in their careers they can’t escape it.  There will always be negative comments so they are better off getting used this fact earlier rather than later.

Since we are on the topic of who might win AI this year, has any of the past winners won after a 2nd or more attempt? If not, then statistically the 2nd timers don’t have good odds on winning.

James sounded great on mama I’m Coming Home.  And yes, he needs to fix his hair…it looks like a bad home dye job.  Blake looks hot with the short hair.

That was a mischaracterization of what Carrie said in the first place (and I get you weren’t the one who originally mischaracterized it). She did joke about noticing celebs who didn’t support her back then (it was clearly a joke, she was laughing about it). But, her reasoning about not revealing her favorites was that she doesn’t feel like adding to the pressure cooker for the contestants, having been through it herself. She’s also generally averse to stating her preferences in a situation like this where she thinks it’s possible for her to swing votes in a certain direction or at least get some contestants a little extra media attention.

But, I agree it isn’t necessary for Lauren to follow a rule somebody else set for herself. Idols should do as they see fit, and as long as they’re constructive and not hateful I don’t see the problem.

I think people will vote for whoever they want.  I honestly don’t think they are hugely influenced by who other Idols like.  I remember back in Season 8, Carrie Underwood did reveal that her favorites were Kris Allen and Danny Gokey.

My issue with Elise is not that she does not smile, it is that the smile never reaches her eyes. She has absolutely no expression in her eyes at all- nothing ever moves. I actually pondered if she has had botox injections as it was so apparent to me that her face does not move naturally. It just robs her face of enthusiasm or even being involved in her own performances. Voice wise I love her, but IMO she cannot emote to save her life and that keeps her at a distance from me. YMMV.

Peeps like Casey J are going on, not because they are Idol alums but
because they have something to sell.  Nothing strange or unusual or
amazing or “oh my god”ish about it.

There are tons of artists vying for those lucrative spots on TV talk shows tons it’s very competitive, and to be honest, I think it is kind of a big deal that Casey has gotten a couple of those spots.

I keep playing that (Mama, I’m Coming Home) over and over and over! James AND Blake and Dylan sound fantastic! I don’t care for James’ ‘orange’ hair, but apparently he does – and I LIKE the short hair on Blake!

iFoundIt:   I remember back in Season 8, Carrie Underwood did reveal that her favorites were Kris Allen and Danny Gokey.

Not while s8 was going on. After the season was over she made a comment about how nice Kris and Danny are. I can see why her bringing them up was interpreted as a revelation of her favorites but it may just have been her singling out 2 contestants she got along with especially well.

iFoundIt: I think people will vote for whoever they want. I honestly don’t think they are hugely influenced by who other Idols like.

I tend to agree, but I think Carrie fears differently especially because all the country blogs and possibly some mainstream media would pick up anything indicating who her favorites are and likely blow it up into something bigger. It seems to me she’d just rather not take the chance and that’s fine.

I have always thought Skylar looks like Heidi, too. :)

I’m sure there will be things they all have trouble with, but I still say nerves are a huge part of why some of the Idols fail. Jessica already has experience dealing with that. I just think it’s a little unfair..but with that said..Jessica is a great singer. Still don’t think she’ll win it all, but you never know.

  • Chris

Great points.  These contestants need thick skin fast or just stay off the internet, twitter, etc… Someone saying they think Jessica, Colton, P2 will win is the least of the comments that might hurt their feelings.

I have seen some things on this board, YT, twitter, etc.. that would make a sailor blush. Going on Idol or X Factor or any reality show is a blessing and a curse, so they have to live with both sides of fame.

Do you think Jessica should have tried out for The Voice or X Factor instead?

I’m starting to wonder myself if her kind of talent can ever be appreciated on a show like idol. Maybe Simon would make her a bigger star while Idol fans may vote her off too early.

Just wondering since I’ve been seeing a lot of negative comments about her…

  • Axxxel

Yeah, people tend to root for the blossoming underdog and she is not one… So there should be something that make us root for her. Showing progress (not easy for a good singer like her???) or being versatile or touch the audience’s heart or something else…Looking forward to Jessica doing more than beautiful ballads.

Maybe this is not a good comparison. I still remember Adam Lambert (Season 8) as a very confident contestant singing “Black and White” in the top 13. I think people were very touched when he showed his vulnerability in e.g.”Mad World” and were shocked in “Ring of Fire”…but he ended in the bottom 2 after showing off his long note and his confident strut from the stairs in : “Feeling Good”  (Rat Pack). Too confident for one’s taste ?

  • Axxxel

Yeah.. we can learn from this and apply in our personal lives… Control your nerves, control your destiny. – nah joking…or not.

Maybe you can see Jessica’s advantage when it comes to controlling nerves  as unfair… I think it is a good challenge for the other contestants to step up their game. Which is good for us audience … As for Jessica, I think  it is tougher to maintain a certain level of quality than to develop a quality while still being in the steeper part of the learning curve and experiencing more progress.

  • Axxxel

Yeah, I tend to agree. Adam Lambert rooted for Haley Reinhart (last season) during the competition… It did make me watch her video’s more but it did not change my opinion about her.

Nah, those other shows don’t take people as talented as she is.
