Kris Allen and friends got a VIP tour of Disneyland yesterday.

Kris tweeted, “Scariest ride at Disneyland you ask? It’s a small world. Yep.”

Heartbreaking story, but mention of David Cook in the middle of the article:

Despite litany of challenges, 13-year-old inspires others

She smiled at the mention of David Cook. The Blue Springs winner of the 2008 American Idol competition twice has visited with Gloria, and she attended his November concert at the Midland Theatre. She also can imitate “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest teasing television audiences with his announcement of the winner between Cook and co-finalist David Archuleta.

    “David………… Cook,” Gloria said.

There are only 3 stories today?

Nice to see David booking more shows. I wonder if it will be full band or acoustic? Pretty sure the Clovis rodeo thingy will be full band.

Any video pop up from the Whiskey Jam last night yet? Although it sounds like he just accompanied David Hodges on a couple songs and wasn’t singing lead.

No nothing yet. A lot of artists in the audience, so I guess less videotaping.

I guess Cook won’t be touring with Gavin Degraw since he will be going on Dancing with the Stars (when does that start?). When is David going overseas. In his earlier interviews, he mentioned he is planning a world tour.

  • Anonymous

Never heard him mention that he was “planning” a world tour, although he did say that he “hoped” to be able to play some some shows overseas. Sadly it doesn’t look like that will come to pass anytime soon. But who knows what he has up his sleeves? His short tour with Gavin ended in November and they both continued on their own after that. As far as I know that was always intended to be the extent of it. We don’t have all the numbers yet, but it seems like he may have had even better attendance at his shows when he wasn’t co-headlining with Gavin. I thought that was interesting.

David already toured with Gavin Degraw last year. It was a finite tour, with a beginning and an end. Never planned to be anything more.

When is David going overseas. In his earlier interviews, he mentioned he is planning a world tour.

Probably when they get the money and sponsorship to do so. For instance, that trip to Vietnam, last year, was sponsored by Hennessy.

wonderful to see that David Cook is continuing to write, hang out with other musicians (there are photos floating around from that Whiskey Jam but no vids yet) – and most importantly has two shows coming up!  looking forward to listening to that radio bit later.  and thanks for posting that Kansas City story. Sassy about the young girl with cancer.

Sadly while David is back in writing mode pretty much full time, Gavin has gone on to get a platinum single and is about to release a new single.  RCA seems to be content to let the TLG era die a slow death and prepare for era #3.

Starts March 19th, I think. They’re announcing the cast on GMA, February 28th.

Or, we can turn a frown upside down: Happily, David is back in writing mode.

Like that way of thinking Sassy (I’m much more of a pessimist – wonder if the label is backing Dave now?)

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

To be honest, the label “backing you” doesn’t always work *for* you. I mean, they have a tendency to inflict people on you, like one-size-fits-all Tedder! There’s a lot about the label backing you that is questionable, so we shall see what this year brings.

What is sad about David Cook being in writing mode?? He is an artist, artists create. So his recent cd wasn’t a huge commercial success – his fans liked it, he still has a major label deal, he will continue to perform, continue to write, at some point will release another cd. Sounds pretty good to me.

  • Trina

I dont know whats “sad” about being back in writing mode either. I would rather move onto era #3 and than to see a 3rd single go nowhere. IMO there are no longer any radio friendly songs left on TLM and 3rd singles get even less support.  I rather sit and wait now for new music.

It can’t be long now.  Kris’s pal/roommate Adam Viera tweeted “@KrisAllen revealed his new single to us last night in a crazy game of pictionary! Video coming soon!”

Adam also was filming Kris’s performance at the Mint.  He tweeted
“@KrisAllen video LIVE at the MINT is complete. Release coming this week!!!”

Looks like Kris is being more active in planning and promoting the release of his new single. I remember when LLWD was released they didn’t even have cover art.

Great that there is some news from DC camp, hopefully David is ready for a fresh career-start, new status of musicianship and mentally prepared for any kind of virtual success, small or big. As long as he is around with his music, I’m good no matter how successful he would be, I just try to enjoy the artist and the music. I’ve dreamed big, about his success in the music business, I’ve got nightmares sometimes, but I think the talent is still there and for me it’s hard to ignore it/him.

I love David Cook, but he really fooled me the way he kept going on about how he was working on making the new album so different, you would think we were getting the new Sgt. Pepper- then when I heard it, it didn’t seem like he worked much on it at all, it didn’t sound much different from the first album and many of the songs sounded the same to me.  I think, understandably, he was depressed about his brother and probably didn’t work much on the 2nd album, but I didn’t like the way I was tricked into thinking he did.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, personally I can’t see anything sad, or even negative when an artist gets an era #3.

  • Karen C

He never said that the album would be that different, in fact, he said that there would be progression, but it wouldn’t be that different than the first album.  I think the album sounds like he worked on it plenty, especially Circadian and REM. The instrumentation was much more sophisticated on TLM, especially on those songs.

I could NOT get this thread to open earlier – but now that there’s an Evening Headlines it seems to be working fine for me. Heh.

I loved the call-in to MIX 105.1 – cracked up at the “Cinnamon Gum Czar of Los Angeles” and smiled at the shout out to DCO and the fans, and the descending order of ‘Songwriter’, “Singer’, “Performer’ and “Guitar Player’, because anyone who had heard his blistering guitar solo on “Let Go” would likely have some trouble with that ranking. Heh.

I was very pleased to see the station has three of David’s videos on their page – and a big splash on their homepage for the announcement. This sounds like a fun venue. With Food. And Wine. Maybe he ought to ship the wine home, and bring Marco along to keep him out of trouble w/the desserts? Or just stay away from the Chef’s Stage? *Wink*

Also. More than pleased David is writing again – can’t wait to hear what he comes up with next!

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

didn’t work much on the 2nd album, but I didn’t like the way I was
    tricked into thinking he did.

    Are you kidding me?!

David didn’t work much on his album and he tricked you into thinking he did because he was mourning for his brother?

That whole album was about his brother and he stated that from day one. On the surface they’re love songs, but the album is about his emotions surrounding his brother’s death. Even the title came from the fact that he found he couldn’t face waking up to the reality that his brother was dead. Sleeping and dreaming was an escape. He worked hard on it because it *was* about his brother, and that work shows if you’ve followed his body of work.

If the album isn’t Sgt. Pepper, well, sorry to burst any bubbles here but there isn’t going to be another Sgt. Pepper. From anyone. Because that was an album created in a certain place and time from a certain band that will never, ever be repeated.

I am so happy my generation was here to enjoy it first hand!  I think David will experiment with sound and lyrics and find what’s best for him.

I think David Cook’s “This Loud Morning” shows that he put a LOT of work into it. Opinions vary of course but I really don’t understand your saying he ‘fooled’ you about it. Did you see the DVD that went with the deluxe TLM? really, a lot of work went into that CD; I’m sorry for Dave’s sake that more people didn’t like it – but that’s the music biz.  I & many other listeners do enjoy it – and that showed during his successful but short tour this past year.

I’m glad he’s getting out there some more & I hope he has continued success with music – even if it’s on a smaller scale than I think he deserves.
