‘Glee’ Producers Mulling Whitney Houston Tribute on Tuesday (Audio) – With a cover of Whitney Houston/Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” set to be included in the Tuesday, Feb. 14, episode of Glee, producers of the Fox musical dramedy on Saturday were mulling whether to add a tribute to the late singer during the episode. The song, which Houston covered in 1992, will be a big number in Tuesday’s Glee, with Amber Riley’s Mercedes set to perform it as she struggles to decide between ex Sam (Chord Overstreet) and current boyfriend Shane (LaMarcus Tinker). A spokesman for 20th Television, the studio behind Glee, told The Hollywood Reporter on Saturday that the Valentine’s Day-themed episode, titled “Heart,” had been finished and delivered to the network on Friday, with Glee producers currently considering going back into the episode to pay tribute to Houston, who died Saturday. A title card possibly dedicating the episode to Houston or acknowledging her passing following the episode would seem an easy addition. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Teacher hinted to ‘Idol’ singer to audition for show – If all the world’s a stage, then Reed Grimm should feel comfortable just about anywhere. The 26-year-old Ellsworth musician first entered the spotlight at age 2, as the junior member of his family’s touring band, and has been seeking it out ever since. With his mother, Colleen Raye, and late father, Steve Grimm, leading the way and all three of his siblings, Jennifer, Sophie and Trey, carrying on the family’s musical tradition, Reed has been plugged into performing for as long as he can remember. Even today, fans routinely compare the Grimms to the Osmonds, the Partridge Family and the Trapp Family Singers. – Read more at Leader Telegram

Pia should go into acting. I think she is the most beautiful (looks wise) female to ever have come out of Idol. Perfect for acting. She does have a good voice too.

Glad the Grammys are doing a tribute. It makes sense and it was good of Clive to turn last night’s celebration into a tribute to Whitney. I think if I was the producer I may have asked Jordin Sparks to sing instead of JHud because Jordin just filmed a movie with WH. But JHud is a good choice too. Or I may have asked both.

I gather Britney Spears and Adam Lambert sat at the same table.

    My posts keep disappearing. Testing…
ETA, Why do my posts keep disappearing?
David A. will be launched as part of the @benchtm family next week. He is shooting the campaign tomorrow. In 30 days, David will have filmed the mini-serye Nandito Ako, recorded an OPM album, given numerous singing performances, did an ad for Vangie, and modeled for a clothing line. Then he gets to do some recording when he gets back home. Whew, what a busy fellow.

Here’s David with BCbench and Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars).

David’s OS posted that the tittle of his OPM will be “Forevermore” set to be released at the beginning of April.

The Grammy’s will do a tribute to Whitney, but it’s probably going to be a small tribute. I think the music industry will do a whole tribute special like they did with Michael Jackson that will be shown on tv with many performances.

  • Valentin432

Between Amy Winhehouse, Etta James and Whitney Houston, this year’s Grammy will  be missing some great talent.

Pia as an actress?  She’s stiff as a board. I can’t imagine.  It takes more than good looks, it takes connection.  JMHO and all that.

I think JHud is singing because of her connection with Clive Davis. And because you can throw her into something quickly.  She’s kind of a go to gal.

  • Anonymous

Perhaps acting lessons would help loosen Pia up and help her connect to what she is singing and learn to emote. For me, I find her to be painful to watch when she’s singing. Just a lot of awkward arm waving. But I haven’t watched her recently so maybe she’s getting better?

  • HotHotHot

I wish Dolly Parton would sing “I Will Always Love You”. It’s her song.

I wondered what would happen to Amber’s song on Glee. Would they cut it because it’s too soon? If they did that they would be attacked by the press and internet trolls for being disrespectful. Would they leave it in the episode? If they do they will be attacked by the press and internet trolls for exploiting Whitney’s passing to goose ratings. It really is a no-win situation and will get attacked by the press and internet trolls no matter what they do.

  • GS61

I think since this was a previously taped episode, and she didn’t actually perform it live at the time and place of Whitney’s death, I think the internet trolls and press will cut her some slack. JMO

I’m searching for the GRAMMY pre-telecast order of awards handed typically. Typically only about 10 awards – the big four and typically one award in each major field – are awarded live on CBS.

  • Anonymous

I heard on CNN last night that before news of Whitney’s death, the Grammys were planning a tribute to Clarence Clemons and were quickly putting together a tribute to Don Cornelius. Obviously, things need to be adjusted under the circumstances. I’m sure whatever they do for all the great talent we lost this year will be beautiful and appropriate.

I am looking forward to hearing Amber’s song on “Glee.” She is such an amazing singer. I’m glad they won’t be cutting it.

On a happier note: GO, ADELE!!!!

Wow!  David A. has had a busy month.  For someone with no label or management (except for the lovely Kari, his tour manager who has been on this trip with him) he has certainly picked up a lot of gigs. He has sung, acted, and now modeled.  I am sure David will leave on the mission knowing that his family will be taken care of.  He has stolen the hearts of the Philippine people, and they have stolen his, too.  Here are all three songs he sang at the pyropalooza event.

This time last year, the ‘David was dropped from his label’ firestorm masterminded by his fired manger was in full effect. With no label and management, most predicted it was the end of his career. Looks like David didn’t get the memo.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

I hope Glee takes the high road and has a simple white on black title card at the beginning of the Feb 14th episode stating the episode was done prior to Whitney’s passing and dedicating it to her. At the end, put another ‘in memorium’ card with her name and birth – death dates.

Pia is a lovely girl, no doubt, but there have been a lot of beautiful girls on American Idol. Here are just a few whom I personally think rival Pia in the beauty department: Katherine McPhee, Jordin Sparks, Brooke White, Syesha, Megan, Carrie Underwood, Christina Christian…

I think that 2012 is going to herald a long overdue return of great vocalists and “Divas” in Pop music. The overwhelming success of Adele, Bruno and now the resurgence of Kelly Clarkson, are strong indications that the public is hungry for it. The loss of Etta James, Amy Winehouse and now the GREAT Whitney Houston will bring about a huge wave of nostalgia for a time when autotune wasn’t par for the course. I predict that Keisha will flop, hard, regardless of how catchy her songs might be, and that Idol may finally get it’s female winner again (I hope there are some viable candidates in the top 24).

Or this could all be wishful thinking. LOL.

ETA: And if Christina Aguillera can reign it in about 10 notches, she is ripe for a huge comeback.

  • Tess

Looks, just like a voice, are pretty subjective.  I think Pia is a beautiful girl, good genes and she should thank her parents, but I, too, think there have been many beauties of Idol.  I just giggle when I hear and read things like: the most beautiful, the sexiest man alive, the most photogenic etc.

Now…if you want to see a beautiful Italian…Sophia Loren for the win though Isabella Rossellini takes a close second.

  • Anonymous

Pia is beautiful period–without “qualifiers” like “Italian”.

  • Anonymous

So glad he didn’t get that memo.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Pia was born in the U.S., wasn’t she? So she’s American, not Italian.

  • alterego

Pia as an actress? She’s stiff as a board. I can’t imagine. It takes more than good looks, it takes connection.

The same thing was said about Kat McPhee.

  • Anonymous

Wouldn’t that just mean her nationality is American, since she was born here? The US is where she has citizenship.

Pia’s heritage is still Italian. Her heritage is from the place her ancestors were born.

I agree though, that Pia is beautiful and we don’t need qualifiers in front of that description!

fuzzy: I agree and I’ve never referred to Pia as Italian or used that as a qualifier to any comment I’ve ever made about her. She is beautiful and talented. Period.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Yes, but it’s inaccurate to refer to Pia as “Italian”.  Unless one is a Native American, one’s “heritage” is from somewhere else, but people aren’t referred to by their “heritage”, but their nationality. People who’s heritage is English, Scottish, etc. but are born in the U.S. aren’t referred to by their heritage.

  • Anonymous

Yes, and I still think Kat McPhee is a meh actress.  But she definitely sold a song WAY better than Pia.  Remember Over the Rainbow?  Kat was an actress far more than a singer. She’s openly admitted that she didn’t really want to be a pop star.  YMMV and all that.

  • larc

Pia as an actress?  She’s stiff as a board. I can’t imagine.  It takes more than good looks, it takes connection.

Significant talent in that direction doesn’t hurt either.  ;)

  • TheOther

To my knowledge, Pia has never indicated her goal to be an actress.  But if so, I can see people wanting to work with her.  She is a very beautiful girl.  But she also comes across as one of the nicest and most professional.

I can definitely see her performing a song to a movie.  And I can see her singing at the Academy Awards.  She has the type of voice and presence that is well suited for that kind of venue.

Kat wanted to be one before her albums tanked.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Kat McPhee was just on Live with Kelly (Randy is the co-host).  They showed a brief clip of her made up as “Marilyn” auditioning on Smash, and Kat says that tonight’s episode will reveal who gets the part in the musical.  She also said that on the request of Clive Davis, she sang a “Bodyguard” medley for Whitney at a charity event a few years ago.
