‘Idol’ Booty Shorts Girl Steven Tyler PROMISED Me I’d Go to Hollywood! – The midriff and booty baring girl who got booted from “American Idol” is pissed at Steven Tyler … because she claims he approved of her skimpy outfit before her audition… and even told her she “already won the damn thing!” Jennifer Diley was dismissed Sunday night after attempting two songs — “With You” by Jessica Simpson and “Hero” by Mariah Carey. Jennifer tells us she was thrown off because she hadn’t rehearsed either song — and was forced by producers to pick from a list of “flirty” songs. – Read more at TMZ

But too often cat affection is locked behind closed doors. No more, says the makers of Fresh Step® litter.
In honor of Cat Appreciation Month this February, the makers of Fresh Step litter have teamed up with cat-loving country star Kellie Pickler to ask cat lovers to flood Facebook with images of them wearing their favorite cat-centric clothing. – Read more at SacBee

‘Idol’ Alum Kellie Pickler Toughens Up With ’100 Proof’ – t’s been more than three years since Kellie Pickler’s self-titled sophomore album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart (No. 9 on Billboard 200), but the “American Idol” alumna has hardly been idle. “I jumped, not giving a shit whether my parachute opened or not,” Pickler ( @kelliepickler) says of recording new album “100 Proof,” arriving Jan. 24 on Sony Nashville/BNA. “I just jumped. I’m so happy that I did and that the people that worked on this album jumped with me. I love this record.” – Billboard

Kellie Pickler Proves Herself With 100 Proof – Kellie Pickler says she approached her third album, 100 Proof, with one goal in mind: “I really wanted to take people back to the roots of country music, the music that I grew up on.” And her new album proves that she meant it. 100 Proof leans heavily on traditional country themes, like cheating, family relationships and getting rowdy at the bar. And even the casual listener can’t miss the steel guitar, fiddles and lots of twang. – CMT

‘Idol’ star Durbin tunes in to NFL – “It’s cool, I’m just gonna say that,” said Durbin, calling from the lobby of the Conan O’Brien studios during a promo tour. “It’s a pipe dream to be the anthem for the NFL. ‘Stand Up’ is just what it says, it’s that song to get you pumped. It’s the fun, get the f— out of your seat kind of song.” – Read more at ESPN

I haven’t seen the commercial myself yet but I’ve now read 4 different reports that there’s a Smash commercial featuring a performance of a slowed down version of Carrie’s song Crazy Dreams. That’s an album track from Carnival Ride that Carrie cowrote with Barry Dean and Troy Verges. You can listen to it here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHq3Pb3QQso

I can see how it might fit the show. The first verse goes: “Hello you longshots, you darkhorse runners, hairbrush singers, dashboard drummers, Hello you wild magnolias just waiting to bloom. There’s a little bit of all that inside of me and you, Thank God even crazy dreams come true.”

It’s apparently not Katharine singing it and 1 person said it didn’t sound like Megan Hilty singing it either.

I’m psyched the song might get some more exposure though if it’s true. It’s always been one of my favorites.

American Idol’s ratings are down, but it is still the top ranked show.  From FOX Research

Last week, #FOX aired TV’s top 3 entertainment programs in A18-49 & Total Viewers; #AmericanIdol on Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday#Season11

  • fuzzywuzzy

It’s just phenomenal how much promotion “Smash” is getting.  I’m seeing commercials for it at all times of day.  Hoping that this will be a big break for Kat.

Laura  Saltman interviews Adam. I love when she interviews him. The interview is in three parts. It is interesting that he is more comfortable with this new toned down look now because at the beginning he was overwhelmed and kind of used the glitz and makeup to hide behind and now he feels more willing to let people in.

I watched the Smash pilot this weekend and really liked it ( I knew I would, lol). They filmed outside one of my local bodegas! Kat was great; negan hilty even better imo. Nice to see theater folks like Hilty and Christian Borle on TV. Anyway, will be interesting to see how the show plays outside of the big cities. I hope Smash is a Smash ( all of those theater actors need something other than law& order to guest star on)

Windmills, I’m confused…are those the only acts in country or the only female acts to have their first 3 albums debut at #1?  By the way, I’m planning on buying Kellie’s album when I haven’t before because of being involved on this blog:))  Thanks…

  • Anonymous

As long as it’s still the number one show-then no hardcore panic yet.

Oh PLEASE! He was just being a dirty old man.  All of America saw that, how did she not?

  • Anonymous

probably because she is already lying to herself that she can sing so its hard to see when others are lying to her.

These are the only acts who’ve debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart with their 1st 3 albums and they all happen to be female. None of them debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 which is the all genre chart.

Here’s a Billboard article from last November when Miranda’s 4th album topped the country albums chart:

The singer becomes the only artist in the almost 48-year history of Billboard’s Country Albums chart to debut at No. 1 with each of her first four albums, a feat she manages as “Four the Record” follows summit-starters “Kerosene” (2005), “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (2007) and “Revolution” (2009).

On Country Albums, Lambert steps ahead of three other acts – all solo females – to arrive at the summit with each of their first three albums:LeAnn Rimes (1996-97), Gretchen Wilson (2004-07) and Carrie Underwood (2005-09). Underwood will likely match Lambert’s accomplishment when her fourth album is released next year. (No release date has been announced for the follow-up to Underwood’s 2009 set, “Play On”).

OK, I seem to be lost. I can’t find the sales thread. Well, this probably belongs there. I didn’t realize there was concern from RCA about the downloads of Adam Lambert’s new single.

“While the song has been gaining radio airplay momentum, initial reports
from sources close to Lambert’s label have expressed a degree of
interest in what could be considered less-than-overwhelming single sales
via iTunes and other digital music services. While exact figures are
unknown, it’s believed label sources wanted to see more units of the
    single sold.”http://www.1065.com/pages/tobyknapp.html?article=9653667#ixzz1kPE0B9AM

ETA: OOPS sorry , MJ, I see this has its own thread !

On The View this morning they had a lengthy disucssion about whether not it was fair that Jim Carrey’s daughter didn’t have to wait outside with the other auditionees for AI but made an appointment and was escorted in when she arrived.
The ladies viewed her audition and agreed she could sing.
While I also think she can sing (not great, but good) I think not having to wait with the others could certainly put her at an advantage. She could certainly spend more time warming up her voice in a better environment and she would be more physically rested as well.

The Scotty interview at KFDI radio station was really enjoyable to watch and listen to, and so was his acoustic version. I hope him doing radio visits will help give him more radio play. In the end of the interview Scotty chose YMTLG to play, and I wonder if he did that because it´ll be his next single?

  • Anonymous

Thats the name of the game radio visits.  Both he and Lauren are working hard at this. Touring then doing the additional radio stuff in between.  She has three  radio promo small concerts this week.    They are going to be exhausted.  (but happy)  I hope it pays off for them in getting played on the radio.

  • Anonymous

it’s ridiculously stupid behavior by over invested fans who think they know more than the label. That’s all I have to say about that.

  • Tess

Wasn’t this the same programmer who got lots of twitter interest during Lambert era 1 for the same type of comments.  I feel like its complete deja vu.  (As the theme music for the twilight zone swirls around.)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AGWO435FL6UN2ICRVTFLWRJZSA Lexie

Thanks!  I guess I’m surprised that they are all female–interesting!

  • fuzzywuzzy

“The reviews from actual critics are not good.”

Hmm… I was wondering about what legitimate critics thought.  I’m glad that PD is standing up for herself against the idiotic Glambert onslaught, which is embarassing.  It’s times like this that make me distinguish myself as NOT a “Glambert”.

  • Anonymous

what does she consider “actual” critics i wonder? all I have seen love the album

  • fuzzywuzzy

    “ShannonSSteele

@Glam_Ulli they aren’t printed reviews. I have many associates in radio that just aren’t fans. )Of this song, not of adam! :)”

“Many associates” = other PDs? This doesn’t sound very good.

  • Anonymous

I know that the Entertainment Weekly reviewer only gave BTIKM a C+.  They felt that it a “deflating study in ornate, well-executed emptiness.”

  • Anonymous

OK, I seem to be lost. I can’t find the sales thread.

The sales thread is three threads down from this thread. It’s heading is: HDD- Album Sales Predictions: Jan. 16-22.

  • Anonymous

It sounds like the same quote word for word that was posted in the HDD thread.

I’m not sure who Shannon is.   What station is she a PD from?

  • Anonymous

I have no idea – did not follow that. But she makes a point of telling the tweeters she is a huge fan of his. I don’t know anything more than what I read. Kind of a cautionary tale for me.

  • Anonymous

the bottom line and why these kinds of attacks are not only stupid, but totally counterproductive.

If listeners show that they like the song, Shannon Steel and every other PD will play it, even if they hate the song.   That’s how radio works.  There are PDs working at formats, where they can’t stand the music that is on their playlist, but they play it anyway, because it’s their job.  Attacking the woman is just going to result in her not giving the song a chance, until it is shown that her listeners want to hear it.

  • Anonymous

Thanks – I must have gone past it and thought it wasn’t showing up.

  • Anonymous

Ok, I looked her up.  It doesn’t appear that she is a PD but rather a DJ from Kiss 98.5 from Buffalo who hosts weekdays between 2 and 6 in the afternoons.   According to her blurb on the station website her favorite music artists are  Led Zeppling, Stevie Wonder, Amy Whinehouse, Aerosmith.  Based on this list, she may not be a fan of pop music.

I feel bad she is getting a bad time.

  • http://twitter.com/politicsislife Elizabeth Matthew

Went back and read her tweets and the responses.  Looks like it started off rough but she ended up having a couple of conversations with Adam fans and even ended up following one of them on twitter.  Don’t know what effect, if any, what she has to say or the twitter exchange will have in the long run but it’s interesting to get other people’s opinions.

  • ronnie

I was wondering that too.  Usually only the most fawning glowing reviews are put up on boards, I naturally assumed that was the major consensus across the board and I was wrong about the song.  Knowing now that many people in programming are not liking it, that validates my opinion more.  This Cuckoo song seems like it might be interesting, they might think about switching to that.

  • Nele621

Interesting she likes all those rockers when she came from Christian radio in Birmingham. She is also a huge, huge fan of Archuleta.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MV64BS4FSISCASL4P656RXAFYQ Kayla

Knowing now that many people in programming are not liking it, that validates my opinion more

Gotta say I’m gonna need more than one defensive (although admittedly a bit justified in her defensiveness) DJ on twitter saying “I know other people who don’t like it either so there” when balanced against all the actual positive written reviews of the single.

But fans should never ever engage in a negative way on twitter with radio people. Any fan that does it it just box of rocks dumb.

That said, this DJ flat out called one of the fans a liar when they said that their station in Canada was playing it every day. LOL. And the fan wasn’t lying, her station is CHUM which is Canada’s biggest HAC station and they’ve been spinning it quite a bit. So not exactly a model of professionalism either. Anyway, once everyone calmed down it seemed to end fine, with the DJ actually ending up following some of the fans who were sensible.

  • Anonymous

Oh she likes Pop music, at least she likes David Archulets…a lot.

  • Nele621

BTW, didn’t know Smash pilot was this past weekend. Are they airing it again? When does the series start?

  • Anonymous

Did she ever spin Archie’s last single?

  • cwm

I too read through the whole exchange between ShannonSSteele and Adam’s fans. It started when she tweeted out a request for people to tell her what songs they loved, and when someone tweeted back BTIKM, she replied “not likely to happen.” Which I thought was strange, since she asked for input. Anyway, the ensuing exchanges were interesting; most fan tweets that she responded to were reasonably respectful and polite, although curious or concerned about her negative opinion of the song (I didn’t see tweets she didn’t respond to). If she seemed to get irritated by someone’s question or comment, they generally apologized and made up quickly, and the exchange smoothed out. She was honest with her opinion but non unkind. She gave a lot of friendly advice for how to support a song without annoying stations (basically, don’t call too often). She ended the exchange saying how much she had enjoyed talking about music and “meeting” some Adam fans, and reiterated that she is a big fan of Adam, just not crazy about this song. If it becomes a hit, though, she said she will play it. She’s in wait-and-see mode.

And yes, she is a PD, not just a DJ.

ETA: And yeah, Kayla, I thought she was out of line when she erroneously accused one fan of being a liar on the basis of no information. When in fact, that fan was correct. That exchange, too, was smoothed out, however.

  • Anonymous

Is she a hardcore American Idol fan?  Did she ever play any of Cook’s singles?  LOL I’m not sure what her format is on her afternoon show.

  • Anonymous

Seems to me she would have if it was actually up to her, but I don’t think so.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MV64BS4FSISCASL4P656RXAFYQ Kayla

Edited to add – I wonder why the Dh/PD would care that BTIKM was getting a lot of spins in Canada?

Normally it wouldn’t be relevant, but in this case CHUM broadcasts from Toronto, which is just across the lake from Buffalo, NY. I’m not sure if they actually share the same listening area, but I think they’re close enough geographically to be considered a neighboring station.

  • Anonymous

I thought PDs could decide to play whatever they want?

  • Anonymous

I thought PDs could decide to play whatever they want?

Right now we have 3 corporations that own most of the stations in the country.  And for the most part, people at the corporate level decide what will be played.

An entertainment news show in Manila did a segment on Archie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1SI79PWuEI The show is kind of a TMZ-like setup. Most of it is in Tagalog but the uploader added English subtitles.

TV5 also posted a clearer version of their weekly recap with footage from the arrival, filming and appearances last week (the one before was recorded off the tv): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNKicGwp5eY

I am a little worried on my own behalf.  I am a casual Adam fan and liked his first album.  So I had planned to buy his second CD.  But I really don’t care for his first single (which a friend of mine who is a hardcore Adam fan gifted to me).  I still hope to buy the new CD, but now I plan to wait until I can hear song snippets of all the tracks first.  The fact that I don’t care for Adam’s new single may not mean much.  I doubt I am his target audience, lol. For what it is worth, my favorite songs on FYE were “Whaddaya Want From Me” and “If I Had You.”  And I kinda liked “For Your Entertainment,” although I try not to list too closely to the words . . .  :-)  I liked other songs, too.  Truthfully, there was only one or two songs I didn’t care for on his first CD (one of which I think was really popular with his hardcore fanbase).

If Adam puts out a good product, I am so there . . .  *fingers crossed*  But “good” is in the ears of the beholder.  And it’s my ears that count, at least in terms of whether I’m willing to shell out money for a CD.

Okay, that was supposed to be “listen too closely” and “there were only one or two songs I didn’t care for.”

If I try the edit function, my comment disappears.

Can’t wait till I have access to a computer with a more up-to-date browser.

I guess I’ll be the resident prude and say it: Isn’t she a little young for that? I mean, I’ve never seen the Teddy Awards, but I do not need a barely legal teenager telling me about the best use of lingerie. Or is she just hosting the thing that comes after the Country Lingerie Spectacular? (Also, ugh CMT. Just. Ugh. Go sit in the music video television channel corner for a while and think about how much you suck.)
