Carrie Underwood talks about her marriage, new home and her accent

Country music star Carrie Underwood, who hails from Checotah, called into Chicago-based radio station US 99.5 and talked about her new home in Canada, her marriage to pro hockey player Mike Fisher and her eating habits.

“I can’t be like a groupie wife. I gotta hold down the fort,” Underwood said, explaining why she wouldn’t be accompanying her husband as his Ottawa Senators travel today to Chicago for a matchup with the Blackhawks. “I gotta learn how to be a hockey wife. I don’t know if I’ve figured it out yet.

“He wants me to cook for him an awful lot. I’m not sure if I’m OK with that,” she added with a laugh.

Going back in time: my early days with ‘Idol,’ part one

In April, 2002, Fox was trying to get us to cover the auditions of this new show “American Idol” at the AmericasMart downtown. We said no. Why? We were covering Music Midtown and nobody knew what this show was.

At that time, I was covering radio, nightlife and youth culture. I was not covering television. We had two writers full time doing that. But when the first VHS advance screener for “Idol” arrived at the AJC, neither of them were interested in a reality program that looked like summer cannon fodder. It landed on my desk. I shrugged my shoulders. Hey, why not?

This is a pretty fun read. Check it out at AJC

“Silencing the Song: An Afghan Fallen Star” Debuts Jan. 26 on HBO2

In the 2010 HBO documentary “Afghan Star,” Setara, a young singer, was voted off the “American Idol”-style show of the same name. Caught up in the emotion of the moment, she danced across the stage and her head scarf slipped, revealing her hair. The incident sparked an uproar in post-Taliban Afghanistan, where music, dancing and TV were completely banned just ten years ago, with some traditionalists saying Setara “deserves to be killed.”

In the new documentary SILENCING THE SONG: AN AFGHAN FALLEN STAR, “Afghan Star” director Havana Marking revisits Setara as she deals with ever-present threats to her safety and starts a new life as a wife and mother-to-be, while continuing to nurture dreams of becoming a pop-music idol. Debuting WEDNESDAY, JAN. 26 (8:00-8:45 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO2, this intimate portrait will be immediately preceded by an encore presentation of “Afghan Star” at 6:30 p.m.

‘DWTS’ star Maksim Chmerkovskiy did not turn down U.S. ‘Bachelor,’ says source

While it certainly would have been the most dramatic network crossover… EVER, Dancing with the Stars‘ resident hunk Maksim Chmerkovskiy did not, in fact, turn down an offer to star in ABC’s hit dating show The Bachelor, according to a show source. Though Maks writes on his blog that he “turned down the American version” of The Bachelor and will instead star in a Ukrainian version of the show, a show source tells EW that ABC did meet with the Dancing star but never offered him the gig as chief rose-master.

Lea Michele Made Young ‘True Grit’ Star Cry With Brush Off

“When I was auditioning for ‘True Grit,’ I was on the Paramount lot. I was wearing clothes from the 1800s that were big and uncomfortable. ‘Glee’ also films on the lot, and I love the show,” Steinfeld told J-14 magazine. “I saw Lea Michele just walking to her trailer, and I was like, ‘That’s the girl from ‘Glee.’ I’ve got to go ask for her autograph!’ So I walked up to her and asked for her autograph, but she walked by and a guy came and said, ‘Sorry, now’s not a good time!'”

The young actress, who stars alongside Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges in ‘Grit,’ was so heartbroken by the brush off that she left in tears. “I had to walk all the way back to the car wearing what I was wearing. I was practically crying on the way home,” Steinfeld said. “I was so sad! But she’s beautiful, and she has an amazing voice.”

It sounds like Lea Michele is pretty much playing herself on Glee.

So coy. Like JLo promoting her new music by performing on AI wasn’t part of her negotiations to be a judge? ;)

Sorry, but I’m feeling doubtful Carrie’s marriage is going to make it. I predict she’ll be pregnant or separated within a year and a half.

That article on Lea Michelle’s diva behavior is interesting. I was reminded of that time that she sort of horned in on an interview with Chris Colfer, so I could see her doing that to Matt Morrison.

Alli and Adam are mentioned in the new print edition of Rolling Stone..the article is entitled “The New Gay Reality”…its about how various cable channels are now featuring gay characters as trashy as the Jersey Shore kids (RS words, not mine, LOL). Rob Sheffield writes” For years, the archetypal gay characters on TV have been supersmooth, terrifyingly functional, can-do operators, in the mold of …Tim Gunn or American Idol’s Adam Lambert – the stock gay man who is there to offer a pithy bon mot or warn you not to wear capri pants. When Allison Iraheta needs a little help in the hair department, who hooks her up with the right stylist? Glambert, her guardian-gay angel.” Article goes on to say the new gay characters (as opposed to the urbane Tim and Adam) are “stupid-gay reality stars”….lol

Seriously that was so damn interesting seeing Andrew Garcia and his friends freestyling. I can almost hear how that song is going to turn out if they keep going with it. The guy behind Andrew is a better rapper, he’s like Travie to Andrew’s Bruno. Really, really cool. Nice to see some original stuff from him even though it’s basically a rough draft.

I have never seen anyone so obvious like JLO. As soon as I heard about her new album coming out, You can guarantee that she will debut her new single before season 10 is over. I just wonder if she’s actually going to sing or do her usual lip sync.

There was some question earlier about what type of performance Danny may be doing tomorrow at the big consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.

It sounds like the full band is going from what I can see on twitter. Hopefully they will all fit ok based on what girlygirl mentioned about the size of the stage when Kris performed. (I guess this is where that practice opening for Sugarland and dodging Julianne’s enormo swingset/pole-dancin’ set will help out Danny & crew, lol.)

Both Danny’s keyboard player/background singer Brandon Fraley, and Brandon’s wife Jamie appear to be going. Jamie joins Danny when she’s not working with Carrie.

bfraley: Before flying to Vegas, @jamelle210 & I had a fun lunch/coffee hang w/ @SonsOfSylvia today. Those guys are awesome. Good times…

Brandon is virtually always with Danny but for Jamie to be there, have to think the rest of Danny’s band will be.

And tweet from Danny’s steel guitar player, who again usually wouldn’t be there for a small acoustic set. Danny’s bare minimum band is usually just Brandon and lead guitar player Matt Reviere.

JustinWard77: In New Orleans and on to Vegas in 30min.

    .

Doesn’t look like a very prominent promotion (for now, anyway) but CMT has a page with a giveaway of a signed guitar and some signed CDs from Crystal.

I was wondering all along if Carrie (vegan like myself) would feel obliged to have to cook meaty meals for her spouse on occasion.

At least they can probably afford to have a chef come in every day, but an extra person in the house probably doesn’t fit in with newlyweds.

Connie D: I was wondering all along if Carrie (vegan like myself) would feel obliged to have to cook meaty meals for her spouse on occasion.

Carrie’s not vegan, she’s a vegetarian. In the WUSN interview (or maybe it was another one she did yesterday or today) she mentioned that she and her husband’s mom cooked the Christmas meal but Carrie didn’t cook the turkey or ham because she wouldn’t know how to do it right and didn’t want to be responsible for sending the family to the hospital (she was pretty funny about it). In other interviews she’s mentioned that she and Mike make dinner together.

  • OvenMitt

Maybe Hailee Steinfeld will get the last laugh on Lea Michele: there’s buzz that she’s going to get an Oscar nomination for her role in True Grit (which I think she richly deserves, BTW).

Also, am I remembering wrong, or wasn’t Jennifer Lopez a L’Oreal spokeperson for Feria haircolor a few years ago?

The Glee casting reality show sounds like a huge mistake. And it will be a competition type reality, not a documentary type reality! What, they are going to make the competitors sing emotional ballads and then boot those whose “emotions” didn’t “show in their eyes”? And if the winner is actually a good actor and singer, he/she wouldn’t be taken seriously because she/he wasn’t casted the normal way.

At least it’s for a guest role and not a permanent role, so they can mold it to fit to whoever will “win”.

I hope so. Great performances all around in “True Grit”. A great movie!

I’ve not liked Lea Michel’s character since the start, and I like her real life character even less.

Hailee Steinfeld, on the other hand, is just delightful. I’ve seen her in a few interviews now and she is incredibly mature and grounded for a 14 year old girl. I see great things in her future.
