Ryan Seacrest taking over Matt Lauer’s seat on ‘Today Show’ rumors are ‘premature’: NBC – NBC Entertainment President Robert Greenblatt said Friday it is “premature” to speculate on whether Ryan Seacrest could take over the “Today Show” if Matt Lauer leaves. He did, however, call Seacrest “a tremendous asset that we hope to keep in the family.” Greenblatt particularly cited Seacrest’s work on the NBC-owned E! channel, but said “we would be interested” if Seacrest wanted to do more on other NBC networks, like a “Barbara Walters-style interview show.” – Read more at NY Daily News

According to AO, Adam will be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Jan. 17th. That’s two days before the Ellen episode, so looks like that’s the week he really starts promo.

Meh.  Let me know when he’s on Conan.  Because Leno sucks and Ellen is a horrible interviewer.

Do we know whether Adam is going to be interviewed or just perform? Because he seems to perform exceptionally well on Leno.

I guess the rumor I heard yesterday was true that Adam is going to be on Leno. So happy, Jay is a big fan of Adam and I loved the last interview he did with him. Can’t wait till the 17th, it’s going to be crazy.

  • CindyM

I like Conan a lot, but his ratings suck.  I hope Adam gets to do his show too though!

  • sd34567

Yeah, but he’s on cable.  He’s on a channel that a lot of people don’t get.  Plus, Conan gets a lot of young viewers.  And they watch his show online a lot.

James is going to be on Conan on Thurs. 1-12-12. I think he may appeal more to the young and male crowd that frequents that show more than Adam. I say this as a real Adam fan. I love Adam being on Leno and Ellen. I’m sure this is just the start of the Adam storm. James has a nice article in Rolling Stone and his album is better than I thought it would be, done on the run and no major label production and pr. March can’t come to soon for this Adam fan

Adam was already on Conan and Dave Letterman so I’m expecting him to make appearances on their shows too. Jimmy Kimmel was the only show he didn’t appear on because of the AMA brouhaha. Kimmel was pissed and promised to get him on his show.

Conan does indeed have a younger demographic, especially with college aged to 34 year old men.
I guess it depends on who your target audience is.
Leno gets better ratings, but with an older audience.

  • sd34567

Since you all say Leno seems to love the guy, he’ll probably get a performance and an interview.  Same with Ellen.  I won’t be watching because like I said, Leno sucks and Ellen is a horrible interviewer.

  • sd34567

Durbin’s going to be on Conan?  That’s pretty big right there.

  • sd34567

Fallon sucks, too.  I can’t stand him.  The only time I ever went out of my way to catch Fallon was because Keith Urban was on. I was cringing at every part of the show I caught.

Same with Kimmel. I don’t like him, either.

  • GS61

I kind of like Ellen, but I agree about Leno; very dated.
    Even Letterman is hipper. lol

  • Anonymous

Oh cool, Ellen and Leno. I figured they were probably a given. Ellen’s mom and Adam’s mom marched in the PFLAG parade together.

    Leno.. Safe plucking!

Now how about an ABC show.

  • Anonymous

seems to me  that — IN GENERAL — people get to do Leno, Letterman OR Conan… not Leno, Letterman AND Conan.
I suppose there are exceptions, but it seems like the shows refuse to
book the same people — at least not in the same brief time period (although maybe they would book the artist weeks/months later) Did Adam
get to do Leno and Letterman (or Conan) in the same relatively brief
time period when he was promoting album #1?

  • sd34567

That’s why there was a whole lot of crying and gnashing of the teeth when Conan took over The Tonight Show for that small amount of time.  All of the older people were complaining about Conan not being funny and they like Leno.  Well, the young people think Conan is funny and that Leno is horrible and dated and that NBC should’ve been going after the younger audience.  Then, it all fell apart.

And yes, even Letterman is hipper.  Conan and Letterman for me.

  • Anonymous

omg I LOVE Fallon haha to each their own

  • http://twitter.com/whiskey401 Whiskey

Really? I’m not sure how one can determine who appeals more to who unless you have statistics. Adam’s base is very diverse straight, gay, young, old, male and female.

    http://twitpic.com/7pegrw

    http://twitpic.com/7pegrw/full

I see plenty of young straight men in his audience. lol. Is it the ghey thing. lol.

  • CindyM

Yes Girlygirl, he did.  Adam did Conan (it was then in Leno’s slot), Leno (in his 10pm slot) and Letterman when promoting the first album.  Leno on 12/21, Conan on 12/14 and Letterman on 11/25.

  • Anonymous

Wow — So much Adam goodness happening in one week!!!
I could care less what show he is on just as long as he is on my TV! ;-)

  • Anonymous

Adam would be great on the Daily Show or the Colbert Report–they don’t have musical guests every episode, obviously, so that’s a lot less likely, but it would be awesome.  And yeah, he did Conan last time so he’ll probably do the show again, though since the rollout is different this time, who knows when he will. Yay live performances!

  • Anonymous

    Just saw this:

Speaking of Adam Lambert, I finally got those Better Than I Know Myself numbers for you. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Adam’s new single sold 38,800 downloads its first week out and 17,900 this past week, for a release-to-date total of 56,700. Sorry it took so long to get those figures, but I’m happy to pass them along now.

    http://content.usatoday.com/communities/idolchatter/post/2012/01/adam-lambert-david-archuleta-carrie-underwood/1

I’m not an expert, lol, but that seems like a good start for the song!  It seems like it’s being generally really well-received, which is cool.  I’m just really excited to hear it live and to hear the whole album. :)

  • Anonymous

It’s Only sounded great :) Lots of great long notes and even better reception from the crowd.

  • Anonymous

I like Fallon a lot too. Lol. I think most of the late night hosts are fun, and I kind of hope he visits at least a few, but if I could have only one, the top most rated will do nicely.

I’m just excited promo is starting and we’ll get new interviews and performances finally.

  • Anonymous

While we’re throwing out dream late night gigs, I second this and add that I’d love to see him on Ferguson.

Most guys in that age group think the whole show is pretty lame.

(My personal experience, IMO. My 2 sons; 15 and 22 would consider it torture if I made them watch! lol)

  • sagi

I will watch Adam on Ellen, I will watch Adam on Leno, I will watch him on Conan, I will watch him on Fallon, I will watch Adam in a tree, I will watch him with a bee, I will watch him in a house, I will watch him with a mouse, I like to watch Adam, Sam I am!

  • babyspock

According to Yahoo Search, James does not have younger fans.  James may have higher percentage of male fans, but since Adam have much more total fans he also have more male fans.  Also you can see James male/female ratio has steadily increase in favor of more males, either because he really is getting more male fans or most likely he’s been losing his female idol fans.

  • Anonymous

I wish to print this comment out and frame it. Lol.

  • CindyM

Letterman and Leno have identical 18-49 demographic ratings for 2011.  Leno has more total viewers than Letterman by about 400K  3.7 million – 3.3 million.  Conan has actually lost ground in the 18-49 age demo per Mediaworks

“The summer has proven more challenging. Mr. O’Brien’s average 18-49
audience was surpassed in August overall by every rival except Chelsea
    Handler on NBC Universal’s E!”

  • sd34567

Who says those guys are straight?

  • Anonymous

Discus is playing games with me tonight as it wouldn’t post, because it said error and then diplayed my post numerous time. Now it won’t let me reply to Whiskey.  I attended five of Adams Glamnation shows and I know there are gay and straight guys there, but to be honest the attendance is more female and over thirty. In Europe I heard the crowds were younger. I think (and hope) his new album will attract the younger set more as it sounds more current (what ever that is)

  • sd34567

Adam only did Conan that time because it was the Tonight Show.  Just like how Kris did it.  I don’t see him making his way over to Conan on TBS.

  • Leandro Cardim Da Silva

James is gonna be on Conan but he’ll sing LMB. OMG! Is it too difficult in the record business to just drop a single and bring another?

I can say, as a fan, that i’m fckng afraid about his performance.

  • http://twitter.com/whiskey401 Whiskey

I guess it depends what part of the country you attended the concerts. I live in a young hip city so my concert was young and hip. I’m also hoping Adam’s next tour doesn’t have the same people going over and over to his tours elbowing front row view and give his younger fanbase a shot. 1 or 2 concerts sounds reasonable but 5 concerts sounds like the typical AI demographic fans and they always go in groups.

  • GS61

Why can’t they at least have him perform StandUp? That’s out as a single on Rock radio. Much better choice.
He should show up and at the last minute tell the guys,”F*ck it, we’re doing something else” and sing HTH!
    (I can hope can’t I?)

    Edit:
    At least it’s not acoustic:

    ArcherNation
    Archer Nation
@kamkamer @Indeloon85 @TyMolinaro @JFabb @DurbinRock God no, not acoustic. Gonna bring out the Les Paul/Marshall standard of rock!

I don’t know any young straight men who even watch AI!!

For the season 10 finale my daughter had friends over our house to watch, 3 which included 15 year old straight guys. Big AI fans (all liked Haley). Its all a matter of perspective.  IMO for James at this point he needs all the promo he can get regardless of what type of demo Conan attracts. And he really needs to knock this one out of the park.  Lately his live performances make me nervous.
Really looking forward to Adam’s promo! ITA that those numbers are a very good start for BTIKM.

I say they save the ABC shows for the album drop :)

I would really love to see Adam on GMA.  But I won’t be holding my breath.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BHCD4X7GHJ23SMJ2M2RCQUSNUM Pat

I always wonder why anyone brings this up? Everyone off idol has a large fan base of  mid-aged women. Its the shows demographic.
I don’t suppose you saw any videos of his Russian concert?
The front rows were packed with sweet young girls holding heart shaped balloons for him.SOOO cute.
Soon enough all the rockers showed up because Adam live is just that good.

  • Anonymous

I didn’t know Lane had a twitter. Cool that she sounds so excited!

PS – wonder who Adam’s new assistant will be

  • Anonymous

I forgot Adam was fairly popular in Iran, of all places. It always shocks me when I see proof of it. Switch it to a “year” on the bottom and Iran jumps to #2.

Glad to see Germany and UK on the lists (next biggest music markets).

  • Anonymous

ah ok, thanks. I didn’t remember him doing those shows so close together — I thought they had been more spread out. So, maybe he will get to do more than one of Leno/Letterman/Conan  :)

  • http://twitter.com/whiskey401 Whiskey

Thank You!!!. His International fans tells the real story since most don’t know him from Idol. There were plenty of hardcore rockers at that Russian concerts singing along to Adam. Adam earned their respect. Idol guys are dominated in the US with the middle age women and still do. All of them. Going to 5 concerts feeds right into that. No way in hell a 22yr old has time or the money for so many concerts.

  • GS61

I bet if you asked those 15 year old boys why they were there, it was probably because they were interested in the 15 year old girls! lol

This was just my personal observation of the people I know where I live.
I guess every region is slightly different. It’s actually quite sad, most adults I know too, no longer watch AI. My 17 yr.old daughter watched this season occasionally, but none of her friends watch anymore either. They did however in grade school.

ALL of his Walmart Soundcheck songs were fantastic – including LMB, so I’m not afraid about his performance on Conan.  I can only speak for myself, but I do believe he – and the band! – will do the song proud.

Whole cities are young and hip?! Where are the older people – you know, over 50. :)

  • Anonymous

All of the older people were complaining about Conan not being funny and they like Leno.

I’m old as dirt and I ADORE Conan, and literally DESPISE Leno. I’m not sure it’s an old vs young thing, tbh.  More like an unfunny vs funny thing. lol.

Actually, I think all of the late night hosts are hilarious…Dave, Conan, JimmyF, JimmyK, CraigyFerg, Jon, Stephen. I watch all of ‘em at one time or another. Well, except Leno.

ETA: Conan’s problem on the Tonight Show had a lot to do with Leno tanking in the 10 pm hour and messing up the lead in to the local affiliates news programs. The situation was more complicated than it looked on the surface. Conan never got a fair shot at the gig.

Can You Guess the Artist in This Yearbook Photo?

    aww, too easy :)

  • http://twitter.com/whiskey401 Whiskey

I didn’t want to bring that up and start a long debate but Google also has a demographic search and Archie has the youngest percentage of fans followed by Adam being 2nd. I think from 24-35 Adam and Daughtry are about even with Kris being behind both. Adam has more male fans than Archie, Kris and Cook and about even w/Daughtry. Cook has the largest percentage of older Idol fans. Above 24yrs old Adam and Daughtry demo are about even. I don’t have the link. agh.

I don’t particularly like any of the US chat shows (sorry, just don’t like the format they all seem to follow), but will look forward to seeing the videos of adam on both leno (loved the safe plucking interview), and Ellen (hope she doesn’t bring up the AMAs yet again).
Would really love to see him on the Graham Norton show when he’s doing his promo in the UK, and back on the Jonathan ross show, but singing as well as interview this time. (for those that haven’t seen that interview, its well worth a google.)

  • Anonymous

I saw that one of James’ band members tweeted that the Conan performance will be full electric.  That is definitely good news.

  • Anonymous

I would love to see him on the Graham Norton Show and I wouldn’t mind a repeat interview with Jonathan Ross, hopefully with a performance.

  • Trina

I bet if you asked those 15 year old boys why they were there, it was probably because they were interested in the 15 year old girls! lol

Nope, as I said in my post theyre FANS. They voted every week and are
excited about the new season (one kid in particular liked Crystal and Lee as well). But every single year when I go to the AI
tour I see ALL age groups male and female. Maybe its a regional thing,
who knows? Not really a big deal either way.

ALL of his Walmart Soundcheck songs were fantastic – including LMB, so
I’m not afraid about his performance on Conan.  I can only speak for
myself, but I do believe he – and the band! – will do the song proud.

The thing about James performing LMB though is hes very hit and miss and
he hasnt learned to adapt to singing the song in all settings. The
acoustic stuff it was said the song shouldnt be stripped down, he
was sick, he was tired, hes not a morning person. Then when he actually
did try and sing it plugged in with the full band in a stadium I kept reading it was a poor sound system.

Is it too difficult in the record business to just drop a single and bring another?

Promoting a new single costs money and a lot of effort. Which is why we often see labels put 2nd or 3rd singles out there with zero promo. I’m not actually 100% convinced the label has even recouped what putting the album together cost.

  • Anonymous

IIRC he’s supposed to do some single promo in the UK sometime in February, probably later in the month. Your dreams could come true! The Ross interview was one of my favorites.

  • Anonymous

Ohh.. and Adam was on Chelsea Lately (C Handler’s show) also ;D

  • Anonymous

Can’t comment on Adams US shows, but I went to his HK show (best show ever BTW), and the age range of the audience was probably midteens to 50′s, but with the highest percentage being late teens to 20′s, with lots of guys.
In comparison, I went to the Scissor Sisters a couple of nights ago, the majority of people in the audience were in their 30′s and 40′s, with probably more males than females.

  • Anonymous

I know very few young women (in the 18 to 28 age range) and a grand total of zero young men who would be caught dead watching idol, or listening to anything just because it’s idol related.  I teach at a fairly large State University and I’ve mentioned idol performers a few times (because I’m a fan, what can I say?) and they have absolutely no idea.

  • Anonymous

I’ve definitely seen the Russian videos and as I mentioned before his European fans seem to be younger. Northern Europe especially lover Rockers. Most Idols do have older fans and female and Adam is no exception. He’s working on branching out his fan base but I know he appreciates the ones he has as they made his last tour a sucess.

  • Anonymous

This is only in the US, right? Because Adam’s has more of the youngest fans internationally, from all those videos from Asia, Europe (incl. Finland) and Rusia.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BHCD4X7GHJ23SMJ2M2RCQUSNUM Pat

    so what was your point?

  • Anonymous

I thought Jonathan Ross’s retired. The year Adam was in his show’s Jonathan’s last year.

  • GS61

Sadly, this is exactly my experience also. Watching Idol has become very uncool. I’m in such a minority now (even my family thinks I’m nuts!)
I’m curious if this is a regional thing? The University where you teach, is it in the Northeast?
Maybe this explains the popularity and amount of winners from Southern states?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3ZGXZCUE2YYOS7QV6QSTKM4SA buffynut2001

Adam had a Top 40 Radio hit that is at 1.7+ million in sales. And a second song that is over 800K in the US. I think he probably has a lot of young fans. Watching Idol has nothing to do with those sales and I know plenty of straight males that love WWFM. It’s the male lament to the women on their life, “Whataya Want From Me?!” LOL!

I know Adam is going to sing his single and blast it out of the park.  No worries there.  But, people – the important stuff – his hair and his outfit.  What’s it gonna be?

  • sd34567

Oh, I know all about the story of Conan, Leno, and the Tonight Show.  Other than the fact that he’s not funny, that whole mess is the main reason why I hate Leno.

  • Anonymous

I like Jay Leno.  He’s corny like me!!!  :)  but I do like the other guys too.

  • Anonymous

My daughter who is 16 shared Adam’s new song with me.  I know that it was released and I listened to it a bit, but I won’t tell her that.  I’ll let her think she showed me a cool new song.  She loves the lyrics and so did her friend who listened at the same time as me.  They both concurred that they would like a boyfriend to feel that way about them, but they don’t think it will happen with a highschool guy.  I think I’m talking about btIkm

I’m in the midwest, but very close to a “young hip city.” Sorry, but LOL at that comment–all cities have young, old, hip, unhip, rich, poor.  Seriously, just what city would be young and hip?  I’m at a loss.

  • Anonymous

My choice for late night show host is easy – it’s whoever treats Adam the nicest.

  • Anonymous

I know very few young women (in the 18 to 28 age range) and a grand
total of zero young men who would be caught dead watching idol, or
listening to anything just because it’s idol related.

These individual antecdotes don’t mean very much to me. I like actual numbers, and the actual numbers say that American Idol is the #2 most watched show for men ages 18-34, behind Family Guy, and American Idol performance show and results show are the #1 and #2 rated shows for persons 12-34 http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/03/15/ratings-by-age/.

Can’t wait to see Adam on Leno and Ellen.  They both love him, and it will be fun.  And seeing him sing the song live, finally!  I hope he gets to do more shows though.

I don’t have anything to say about the demographics, except I’m sure he has more older fans in the US just because of Idol, but I know a lot of younger American fans also, that are my peers.  I’m 21 and I’m proud to be an Adam fan, but I’m European so I don’t count, I guess.

BTW, girlygirl,  I think Adam’s new assistant is a tall, very handsome, possibly British guy, called Jeremy, I think his name was.  He was with him in Shanghai.

  • Anonymous

I can’t believe they are still shooting!

HaitianEv Ev Salomon Fuck it im a say it right now!!! Adam Lambert is a great fuckin performer…. and yes still shooting!!!!

  • sagi

Personally, I don’t really care much about the demographics of Leno’s audience. What I do know, it is a large audience, and a GREAT promotional opportunity. I don’t know how one can spin that to make it anything less. I am hopeful to see Adam on many more national programs and media outlets. Let the buzz begin!

  • fuzzywuzzy

I agree about Leno being dated.  I’ve always liked Letterman way more and have recently started to like Conan and Fallon. I’m hoping for an appearance on an ABC show this round.

  • http://twitter.com/kepilynn808 kepilynn

I actually really like Leno (and all the others mentioned), but I think Letterman’s a cocky ass…to each her own, I guess :D I’ll be happy to see Adam on ANY show ;)

  • fuzzywuzzy

lol  Great comment!  Probably the “most liked” ever!  :)

  • sagi

Thanks ;) Just trying to keep it light!

  • fuzzywuzzy

I was surprised that Adam was so popular in Iran.  James too.  I guess that these guys are known there for their music, since I doubt that AI is broadcast there.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Yes, far more important!  ;)  I think that his outfit will be very stylish (going out on a limb!  lol) but not outlandish “glam” (been there, done that), and I’m voting for the “wolf” gravity-defying hairdo with the silver/blonde tips (but that may be too “already done” for Adam lol).  An outfit like he wore when he played with Queen would be fabulous!  :)

  • http://twitter.com/lorismile1 Lori

Love that comment!   And three hours later, they are still shooting!

I’m wondering if we’ll have a stripped down look.  The song basically opens Adam’s (or whoever’s singing) heart open.  Either way I can’t wait!!!!!

ETA: woops spoke to soon. “HaitianEv Finally wrapped long but phenomenal day….. Adam Lambert #fresh”

  • http://twitter.com/lorismile1 Lori

Being on TV is never a bad thing.   Leno gets higher ratings than Letterman.  That’s all I care about right now.  I’m sure he’ll eventually end up on both.  Almost all celebrities promoting something end up on all the late night shows.

  • cwm

Adam’s video shoot just wrapped up, and it’s now 4:00am on the west coast!

Promo finally starting for Adam!  So much great news – Ellen, Leno & a Ray Kay vid, good starting sales for the single.  Happy time for Adam fans.  I’m sure more is on the way and I can’t wait.  My DVR will get a work out.

Oh good for Lane, glad she’s with Haley. Very interested in her siiiick album, lol.

Apparently Adam’s video shoot just wrapped after 20 hours!

I can’t wait to see it.  Hopefully we won’t have to wait long.

Who says those guys are straight?

    Statistics.

  • ryuryu10

I don’t think James has many young fans. This is why he can’t sell singles at all. Young audience tend to buy tracks, not albums, from sites like Apple’s iTunes.

  • larc

I apparently missed something along the way.  When did Adam and Lane part company?  And does anybody know why?

  • Anonymous

    Probably when he switched management.

  • Anonymous

Adam and Lane had to part company when he changed management.  I’m sure Adam hated to lose her; they seemed to work really well together.

  • Tess

Thanks for the giggles, everyone.  I can just picture booking agents haggling over “which” late night talk show they are going to book for their clients trying to choose “the one” that will best meet the needs of their clients’ fan base.  Since booking is a two way street…the show needs to want you and “you” need the promo, its all about which show has an available slot.  I don’t think that there are many people who can hand pick the shows they want to be on…in fact I think most entertainers are just glad that someone books them.

It’s early days yet for Mr. Lambert.  He needs promo for his single and then he needs major promo for his album.  I would gather that he will be very happy if he gets the opportunity to visit “more” than one or two talk shows.  And I don’t think he is “famous” enough to hand pick them.

  • Anonymous

Sorry, I’m not interested enough to look at statistics for any of this stuff, so personal anecdotes are all I’ve got.  Maybe I’m the one from the young, hip town, or maybe college students don’t have time to watch much TV what with all that binge drinking and the Toga parties and worrying about their double secret probation

  • Moria Polonius

Sorry for off-topic, but does anyone know why some replies come with “in reply to” and some don’t? It’s confusing when a comment is obviously a reply but it doesn’t show to whom.

  • Anonymous

It’s probably because some don’t hit the “reply” button under the post they are responding to; they just post.

  • Moria Polonius

Sometimes the same comment shows with a “in reply to” and sometimes without after a refresh, though. And often there are 2 or 3 comments by the same person one right after another who I imagine did hit “reply” to 2 or 3 earlier comments… I’m wondering if it’s just my browser or Disqus screwing up, or if there are any rules about it.

  • GS61

Pop fans buy singles way more than Rock fans. They buy albums.

  • GS61

    lol the “Animal House” references.

  • Anonymous

Sometimes a comment that one replies “to” gets deleted, but if the reply”to” that now-deleted post can stand alone (without also being deleted), it no longer shows “in reply to”.

I’ve found that to be the case at times.

  • Anonymous

It surprises me whenever it pops up b/c I know he sells decently there too.
I wonder if other Idols have sold there well with the search popularity? I know that Adam and Kelly have both topped Middle East iTunes lists on several occasions (BTIKM got up to #2), but I have no idea on others.

I did a quick comparison, and the top4 kids from S10 all have Iran in their top results (#2 for Lauren even), but except for Kelly, it drops lower (David Cook) or off completely (Daughtry) for older Idols. I only search a few of the “popular” ones as test so not conclusive, of course, but interesting trend. Maybe it is a bit like the Philippines in that Idol is at least somewhat popular there.

So ends the random stat comparison of the day :)

  • larc

Thanks for the info about why Adam and Lane parted ways, HermeticallySealed and Chicagolaw.  Don’t know why I had the idea she was working directly for Adam and no longer connected with 19.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

I ‘watch’ (aka ‘sleep through’) whatever late night talk show comes on after whatever I was watching at 10 PM. If I wake up, I channel surf and watch parts of all of them. I like Fallon, Kimmel, and Ferguson the most.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

Does Google explain where they are getting their facts and figures from? I know there are a LOT of people who lie about their age and gender online, particularly in polls.

  • Anonymous

Neither Google or Yahoo are employing polling methods. They gather their information from the browsing history and account information provided. It’s also how Google Ads are able to personalize your ads as you surf the web. For ex, if you’ve search for shoes recently, your ads will likely have to do with shoes. They use similar data techniques to determine age and gender, if the information is not given directly via the accounts (note: most time if a form allows for auto fill, then your brower can relay that info). IPs tell them location, easily.

Of course, trends and demographics provided by search engines do contain some inaccuracies, including due to sampling issues, but it’s a good base for verifiable information since all the data is normalized (ie. the sets of data are divided by a common variable to cancel out the variables effects on the data and allow the underlying characteristics of the data sets to be compared).

Also interesting to note, the reason the Google graphs give a result of “0″ if you are comparing 2 terms is b/c the results are not absolute and the first term has been scaled to be the average and the other terms are scaled relative to that. The ratio between those numbers are always constant, even if the scaling base changes.

    ETA: Fixed typos.

Thanks for that wedding report. I’m a sucker for weddings. It sounds like James and Heidi’s was very much them and very meaningful.

“I was surprised that Adam was so popular in Iran.  James too.  I guess

Actually I think they are known because AI is broadcast there.

AI is being broadcast in Iran and most of Middle East countries like Dubai, Jordan, Oman, Qatar….. I’m living in far more conservative than those countries but it is still broadcast here, just a day delay:)

and we have our own franchise of Arab Idol too:)
