Bitch Stole My Look: Katharine McPhee vs. Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway first modeled this feathered Marchesa frock back in February 2010 for the Valentine’s Day premiere, pairing it with black pumps and upswept hair.

Katharine McPhee went for a slightly edgier look when she revisited the bright-blue cocktail dress while performing on The Early Show in December, rocking her version with gold cuffs, strappy sandals and tousled hair.

Talking to Chris Sligh for his Atlanta Winter Jam appearance Jan. 16

“When I came into the industry four years ago, I think people didn’t really know how to take me,” he said. “As I moved to a major label, I started to change some of my Twittering habits.”

At first, he thought his fans “wanted to hear me make fun of the stupidity of the stuff that happens on Idol. I just did it as a joke.” He thought he was doing a good job. But once he got to Word, his team there started giving him feedback from within the industry. One manager for a major act he wouldn’t name told Sligh’s booking agent that he has a reputation for being a loose cannon and “should keep his mouth shut.”

Paula Abdul says Simon Cowell Won’t Be Watching Her New Show

Paula Abdul tells ET her former “American Idol” co-star Simon Cowell wishes her luck on her new show “Live to Dance” — but he won’t be watching!

“[He said] I haven’t seen anything … I’m not watching it!” Paula gushes with her usual enthusiasm. “He wishes me luck in the most back-handed way all the time!”

See the Video at Entertainment Tonight

Some lady who’s done celeb profiles on American Way, Fitness, Glamour, etc. is apparently interviewing Mr. Cook tomorrow. Her tweet:

Very excited: finalizing deets to interview @thedavidcook tomorrow. Felt a Time of My Life kinship for years. :) Any fun questions?

Is it finally starting? *tiny squee*

Also, just saw a tweet from someone who heard a radio station talking about Cook’s album teaser from yesterday. I thought video teaser stuff like that was reserved for the diehards only, but hey, the fact that it’s been picked up outside the fandom can’t be bad news, right?

  • dy77

Kris will appear on the KARK-KNWA pre-game show for the Sugar Bowl tonight (6:30 Central). It only airs in Arkansas, though.

From Twitter: RT @TheRealAPeters: John Daly, Kris Allen, Jeff Long are all part of our pre-game special tonight at 6:30.

  • Joyed

Some lady who’s done celeb profiles on American Way, Fitness, Glamour, etc. is apparently interviewing Mr. Cook tomorrow.

Keel, she is also an author and has expressed in the past that she is a fan of Cook. Apparently, the year he won Idol and sang “Time of My Life” she had a book called “Time of My Life.” (Maybe it was just optioned for a movie then? I remember because she posted about it online).

  • Joyed

Here is where she said about their “kinship”:

So @thedavidcook won AI the day I heard TOML was bought for film. He sang his own TOML, & I spontaneously combusted into tears. #TOMLkinship

She says that the interview will appear in:

“American Way. April-issue. Timed for his new album.”

    !!! New album soon!!! :)

  • wordnerdarchie

“American Way. April-issue. Timed for his new album.”

And since Magazines come usually come out towards the end of the previous month, I’m putting my money on a late March drop. :)

  • ItsMyT1me

SQUEEEEEEEE for album release info. (Oh, sorry, that’s David Cook, but y’all knew that).

And special request that some Arkansasian (is that a word? LOL) record and post Kris’ performance at Sugar Bowl, please?

  • wordnerdarchie

Oh, oh, the auther is back-tracking & saying April-ish. She has no idea. :(

(And I’ve deleted that tweet because I truly didn’t realize that it would be taken as such.) MY ARTICLE IS OUT AROUND THEN. That’s all!!

  • steph6449

The Roughstock.com country music blog has an article up about “ones to watch” among newer artists for 2011. They include a little writeup about Casey. Not sure whether there is any concrete info that they are basing it on, but they say “late winter/early spring” for a Casey James Band first single. That would match the schedule Casey was describing in his CMA Week interviews.

Danny is also mentioned for having been one of the “ones to watch” who did well after being included in last year’s 2010 preview.

    http://www.roughstock.com/blog/ones-to-watch-the-class-of-2011

This is a pretty open-minded, AI-friendly country blog. They’ve been very favorable toward Danny, big supporters of I Will Not Say Goodbye in particular. And even gave Michael Sarver’s Ferris Wheel single a little coverage, which almost none of the bloggers I read did other than at CMT.com.

  • luly

Great to hear that David’s album will be released around March-April :).

and yay for livestream, although I doubt Kris will say much other than why he’s a big Razorback fan

RT @robint1978 Kris’ score prediction: 40-21 Hogs

    ItsMyT1me

Kris isn’t supposed to perform — it’s likely a very short interview

  • girlygirl

I hope that interviewer is right that the piece is timed to coincide with David Cook’s release (so March/April)

  • GreenHippo

Brook White is so adorably vulnerable. I will def. watch that movie, although I am not a fan of made-for-TV-movies.
Here is the case of someone with an incredible voice, where the nerves always seemed to have gotten the better of her (on Idol). I own her album, which I think is really great.
    Yay! for Brook

  • movin2thabeet

The interviewer is busy back-tracking – big time. I think she said much more than she was supposed to. Oh well. Really, it just confirms that the album will likely be out sometime in the spring, in March/April/May. I sure hope this little incident encourages RCA to announce a date already.

  • tripp_ncwy
  • Keel

Yeah, the interviewer also tweeted about her feed/timeline exploding after her “little mention” of the Cook interview. Silly rabbit. She has no clue.

But yeah, that little crumb about an April-ish publication date for the interview will be taken by many as the probable rollout time for the single or album.

  • Incipit

I think she said much more than she was supposed to.

Sounds like it, doesn’t it. I believe she used to post at TWoP – but that was a case of being blindsided. IMO.

BTW – “American Way” is American Airlines inflight and online magazine.

  • Keel

Just saw the bit about Carrie’s tour wrapping up. One million attendees is pretty darn noteworthy (and some rather nice bank too). Good on her.

  • gangreen29

Is anyone watching Paula’s new show? It really sucks. Hard. It is just a bunch of schmaltzy dancing from old people and kids.

  • Joyed

Is anyone watching Paula’s new show? It really sucks. Hard. It is just a bunch of schmaltzy dancing from old people and kids.

I can’t, I just can’t watch her show fail with my own eyes. It has to happen quietly while I’m not paying attention, like “Hey Paula” did. Maybe I’ll watch youtubes later, but never the show in full!

  • movin2thabeet

I’m watching Paula’s show and I’m liking it. Has folks that aren’t nearly as skilled as SYTYCD but that’s ok. There’s a place to celebrate dancers of all ages and abilities. And I like that groups and couples are featured as well. Yeah they do some smaltzy back story but that’s par for the course. It moves fast, it featues all kinds of dance. I’m happy.

And Andrew G, the host, is very easy on the eyes. I saw him on Australian Idol while I was there and he is a great host. I think the show has potential. And, as a side effect, its likely to put some well-needed pressure on SYTYCD to tighten up the show.

  • tierbee

Ahh, even MORE jealous now… Ben Folds tweets from Exit-In where Whiffenpoofs/Street Corner Symphony and super secret guests (Alison Krauss! Committed!) have a show tonight. So I guess Ben Folds is there, too, eh? :)

    http://twitpic.com/3n3wsu

  • BootStar

Thanks for that blog link, steph6449. Not sure who these people are (and their obvious omission of Carrie Underwood in their list of Idols who have successfully “gone country” is kind of funny), but I’ll take any Casey crumbs I can get.

Paula has a new show? j/k!

I remember that “Time of My Life” book writer. Good for her (writing the article, not getting tweet bombed by Cook fans).

  • steph6449

BootStar, I noticed for some reason Carrie wasn’t listed, which I did think was kind of funny (humorous). I think it was probably just a slip, or else they were focused more on up and coming acts and so Carrie was just in a totally different league :)

  • girlygirl

RT @KrisAllen Crazy people, good food, peein in a trough..I must be at a football game. http://plixi.com/p/67924689

LOL Kris talking about peein’ again…

(Arkansas off to a rough start in this game…)

  • movin2thabeet

Oh, tierbee, Melinda Doolittle tweeted about that concert earlier today.

@mdoolittle: Nashville! Committed, Street Corner Symphony and the Whiffenpoofs will be in concert at Exit/In tonight! Go please…and scream for me! :-)

  • tierbee

I saw her tweet, she’s so cute :) ! Unfortunately Nashville is WAY out of my self-imposed-by-necessity 3 hour each way drive limit lol. I am just hoping that they do get video – they have hinted around about it!

  • Miss Blue

gangreen – I’ve gotta go with you on this one. Paula’s show is just excruciating to watch. I’ve rolled my eyes so often I think they’re facing backwards. Or else the “dancing” has just gotten that much worse.

Did you see the Solid Gold Dancers? Holy hell. They’ve got to be in their 60s. Horrific. And I cannot stand little kid acts, which this show has in abundance. As well as 90 year olds. Oh joy, here comes a 90 year old tapper. My Eyes! My Eyes!!!!! Omg. I am scarred for life.

  • BootStar

steph6449, sometimes I think a lot of folks forget Carrie got her big break on Idol. :-)

  • fuzzywuzzy

At this point, it looks like Pauler’s dance show is more about people’s “spirit” and “committment” to dance, than great dancing, but these are just the initial auditions and first cut. There’s some big prize money though, so I’m hoping that in the end, the best dancers will progress and be in the finals.

  • sma11ie

@Zon5: Just finished laying bass on a track for David Cook (American Idol).

Any Cook fans discuss this yet? NGL, a little bummed that Cook’s apparently using studio musicians. Okay, maybe I’m jumping to conclusions. Besides which I’m not a huge band-fan, so it doesn’t matter THAT much to me if that’s the case… anyway, just wondering what changed. Monty, Andy, Kyle, and Neal were all heavily involved laying down the instrumentals as of last summer.

  • tierbee

Any Cook fans discuss this yet? NGL, a little bummed that Cook’s apparently using studio musicians.

I deliberately chose to ignore it, haha!

  • tinawina

Any Cook fans discuss this yet? NGL, a little bummed that Cook’s apparently using studio musicians.

What? Why! There has been no indication that the other guys won’t be around, right.. I mean they did say they had to be back for February. Maybe the song has 2 baselines? Or a really complicated baseline that none of the others can do justice? Maybe its one of the co-writes with a big name and the person like to use their own people? Okay, I’m so stretching there…

I’m going to say its just a one time thing for now. It’s easier that way. :(

  • BootStar

I deliberately chose to ignore it, haha!

    Same here!!

  • tierbee

See, BootStar, that’s why tinawina and I invited you into our bunker. Hee!

  • standtotheright

Any Cook fans discuss this yet? NGL, a little bummed that Cook’s apparently using studio musicians.

This guy is in the Zac Maloy orbit. tigervixxxen pointed it out. What seems to be happening is that this one particular Cook/Maloy song is getting worked on by strings guy/producer Oliveri and the bassist to flesh out the demo.

All of those people seem to be working in/around Nashville while Cook is in LA (Maloy specifically mentioned going back to Nashville after a vacation and hasn’t suggested leaving again in this new year, Oliveri is from there, and Riendeau worked with Maloy in Nashville for some other projects). So I’m thinking it probably isn’t intended for the album or Cook wouldn’t be tweeting about the last batch this week. What they do intend it for? I couldn’t guess.

  • Indigobunting

This is a pretty open-minded, AI-friendly country blog.

I love Roughstock. They seem open minded about Country Music in general. Their tastes are very eclectic; I noticed that their top 40 albums and top 40 singles were quite the variety.

Yeah, I think that Carrie is in such a different league, lol, they felt no need to give her any press!

  • tierbee

    LOL. Who knew.

Thanks, standtotheright, was about to post about the Zac Maloy/Nashville connection.

There’s an article up on about.com ‘about’ the Teaser video – Bill Lamb’s Top40 Pop Blog. He posted the video too. Interesting to see where this is popping up. :)

  • tierbee

standtotheright, that is some nice sleuthing! Well done! I’m too busy pouting over not being at the Sing-Off fest in Nashville to think deeply so I appreciate you thinking deeply so I don’t have to… ;)

  • movin2thabeet

I won’t be surprised to find studio musicians on Dave’s album, in addition, of course, to the band. I doubt if they’re playing a pivotal role on the album though.

Personally, I haven’t felt that this current band configuration was a permanent thing anyway. It’s worked so far and as long as it is working for all concerned, that’s great. But I’m also sure that Dave has many musician friends and is making more connections all the time. I think fans get attached to what they see and know, understandably, I guess.

  • Kaykohl

I liked Paula’s show much more than I thought I would. It had such a positive vibe to it. I smiled, I laughed and I enjoyed the show. Even when an act was turned away it still didn’t come off negative or mean. I really loved those that loved to dance got a chance to audition regardless of age. I really hate kid acts but the first two kids were really good and those that were turned away should have been turned away. I think I’ll watch this show.

  • standtotheright

I think fans get attached to what they see and know, understandably, I guess.

Or, they take at face value what a frontman says about wanting them to be a part of the process.

Sure, configurations can change. Band members leave groups after years spent performing together, either amicably (Titus Andronicus) or not-so-amicably (Paramore). But that doesn’t mean that the intentions to form a creative unit are hedged bets.

  • sma11ie

Wow, excellent sleuthing, glad I asked! Yeah, if this is a demo, then I’m thinking/maybe hoping it’s not for this album? Cuz I’m hoping they’re further along, yeah.

Thanks movin2thabeet. This show is starting soon here in Australia & I was going to watch just to see how Andrew G fared as host on this. [ Yes he is easy on the eyes & as an aside I once chatted with him at the airport after we'd both been to watch our AFL team Sydney Swans lose the Grand final by 1 point!]

It sounds like to give this show a go you have to remember that at the beginning many aren’t going to be the best dancers but they can still be entertaining. As for a 90 year old performing-I say good on them for staying fit & healthy. I once saw a group of 80+ year old dancers with better legs than many 20 year olds.
I hope for Paula’s sake & to spite Simon that the show does well!
