Fantasia Prepares for Broadway Under Watchful Eye – The first rehearsal of Fantasia Barrino’s upcoming Broadway show was, to be fair, a little rough. No sooner had the “American Idol” and Grammy Award winner opened her mouth to sing “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love” than she was gently stopped, mid-phrase. The man asking her to stop? Nine-time Grammy winner Wynton Marsalis. “That was very good,” he told her. “I just want you to concentrate and do it again. Let your instincts take over.” – Read more at ABC News

Carrie Underwood Tackles NFL Anthem–and ‘The Sound of Music’ – When it comes to vocal stamina, Carrie Underwood “isn’t worried” about her coming role as Maria in NBC‘s “The Sound of Music.” A three-hour live event, Underwood told the Journal that she’s not planning any warm-ups, but will approach the role as she does her concerts, “except memorizing the lines and the acting part, that’s really scary,” she said, adding “I sing a lot of really hard songs in my concerts.” – Read more at WSJ.com

REP: Carrie Underwood Kickoff Special webisode – Grammy Award-winning musician Carrie Underwood joins “The Rich Eisen Kickoff Special” to discuss some her fondest football memories and what it’s like to be the new voice behind the opening theme song for “NBC Sunday Night Football.” – See the Video at NFL.com

Mandisa Thankful Simon Mocked Her Weight on ‘Idol’ – “My journey with my weight has been publicized. The moment that Simon Cowell made fun of me on national television, the world was talking about my weight,” the Season 5 alum said. “While I hated it then, I look back now, having lost 100 pounds, and I’m so thankful that that happened. I’m thankful that Simon did that.”

Jennifer Hudson Talks Winnie and New Music

Demi Lovato Talks ‘X Factor,’ ‘Glee’ … and Wilmer Valderrama – Demi admits she came back for another season because: “I had so much fun last year and I learned so much and it really made me want to work harder as an artist and I got great feedback last year, so I thought why not do it again this year.”

Great article on the interaction between Wynton Marsalis and Fantasia. It sounds like rehearsals are going really well, and some of his advice sounds similar to what Harry Connick was telling the contestants when he mentored last year (not surprisingly). I have a feeling that Fantasia will really impress in this musical.

Who watches those Real Housewives reality shows?

  • Larc

Wynton Marsalis is a real musician, as is Harry. Performers of that caliber usually have a strong respect for the music.

    They sounded great.

Congrats to Phillip for getting another leg of the Mayer tour. Very cool!

  • Madilo

I hate Demi’s hair style now so ugly ugh, go back to brunette please, blond is not your color

  • Incipit

Wow. I really loved that story about knowing the material and the history behind it – and when they got to “Stormy Weather” and started taking that apart line by line – it just got better, considering the Idol contestants and their brush with the Great American Song Book!

The other interesting thing about this approach looking a lot like Harry’s? Well, yes to what Larc said – but also – these two are lifelong friends…Wynton’s famous Dad, Ellis Marsalis Jr, was a mentor for Harry Connick Jr. along with his four equally famous sons. They’ve got some great album collaborations available too.

  • MissMyEm

Wait a minute. Carrie Underwood is playing Maria in The Sound of Music???? I know it’s been years since I’ve seen that play but I could swear Maria is 16 going on 17. Isn’t Carrie a little long in the tooth to be playing a teenager????

  • MissMyEm

Thanks for the one up. I don’t watch the show but I’ll tune in to see Taylor.

  • Lexie O’Neill

Interestingly enough, both PopCrush and Tasteofcountry will be premiering Scotty’s vid tomorrow…hope it helps with the publicity:)))

  • jpfan2

Does this mean he’ll be opening for him in Europe or not.
I thought his last gig with Mayer was the Hollywood Bowl event. Oops nevermind, I see this is a bunch of US dates that goes through mid December.

So I guess Phillip can get into preparing for album #2 in January as planned.

This tweet by James just now:

Exciting things are unfolding as the mixing phase of my new record starts tomorrow #letsdothis #tooblessedtobestressed

…..Was just followed by this one:
    Mid-Atlantic Rock ?@mdatlrr 3m
@DurbinRock Just played Outcast on our radio show last night! Can’t wait for the new music ans still love the last album!

(This is going to be very interesting when this new album drops and it’s not the hard rock album a lot of people expect.)

Windup, I hope you know what you’re doing….

  • HMc

Yes, it should be interesting …I am a little worried for James because if Windup doesn’t know what they are doing he is the one that will pay the price.

  • Jason Gorny

Hey guys, I just saw this for the X Factor USA… So it looks like this will be the final stage before going to the live show. For those living in LA or near LA, you guys can get tickets. The website has a description of what to expect during the show. It sounds pretty similar to the revamped bootcamp on the XFactor UK.

  • Anny_nanny

I hope. I don’t want that him endured the concerts college-tour at a later date or cancel it two shows, if there be sold tickets. People that were waiting for his performances from May worthy of attention and respect from Phillip.
And I’m worried about his health and, Damn!, that in October they should release album in the UK. How will all of this do?

  • justmefornow

Exactly. This could go either way. It could be a terrific innovative album (Psychedelic, really?) or a spectacular crash and burn.

Well, at least he’s still not boring, lol.
