Katharine McPhee on ‘Smash’: Is Romance Brewing Between Derek and Karen in Season 2? – Will we see a new Karen in season two? “There is definitely going to be a transition in Karen. I don’t think it will change the essence of who she is. I was actually in bed last night thinking about who Karen is now after everything she’s been through. I think she’s going to be that much smarter, that much quicker. You really saw Karen change in that last episode. She’s not edgy in a bad way but how she reacts to people is different. Even in her interaction with Ivy. She knows someone did her wrong and that changes things. I don’t know where the writing is going but I’m excited to explore a little more of that.” – Read more at Parade

‘Idol’ winner Phillips is busy learning the ropes – A week ago at 9:30 a.m. in Burbank, Calif., Phillip Phillips was still in bed, and already he was on the phone with a reporter. In addition to rehearsing for the “American Idols Live!” tour, which kicks off its two-month, 44-date run at Joe Louis Arena on Friday, Phillips has been putting in six- to 10-hour days in the studio readying his debut album, which is due for release later this year. – Read more at the Detroit News

Post-’Idol,’ Casey Abrams out to prove he still has his ‘mojo’ – There is always a rush for contestants to put out their debut around the conclusion of their season, but a new winner has been crowned before your album is out. When did you start recording? It started in my brain since I was born I guess [laughs]. I would always write out songs and draw album covers … but when things really started to get in motion was right after the “Idol” tour, after I knew I was going to get signed. I just started writing with songwriters. Then in January, I went to England to record and write some songs as well and up until then I’ve been busy trying to get it out. – Read more at LA Times

The article in “Lucky” magazine on Kelly is up:

    http://www.luckymag.com/magazine/2012/08/kelly-clarkson#slide=1

    Excerpt:

But when I arrive on the set of the new ABC show Duets, expecting to be greeted by some sort of handler, Clarkson herself charges out of her dressing room in curlers and a flowered sundress. “Hi, I’m Kelly,” she calls out. “Great to meet you.” She fixes her sweet brown eyes on my face. “You look so familiar.” When I suggest she may have mistaken me for actress Ally Sheedy, she laughs, asks where I’m from, then sincerely compliments my completely unremarkable homeland. “Massachusetts is beautiful. I love Boston. I went to a Red Sox game a while back.” When I tell Clarkson I saw the record of this outing on YouTube, she cringes. “The one where we were singing? And may very possibly have been drinking?” She plucks at the neck of her sundress and says, “God, isn’t it just so frickin’ hot out? I just had my assistant run out and get me this dress at Target. It’s pretty cute, right?”

“It’s totally cute,” I say and smile, but my mind is having a little trouble catching up to what’s going on: She’s just so open and utterly without guile, and very pretty but utterly devoid of vanity. She hasn’t even mentioned the curlers. (I’m not even sure she knows they’re there.) I mean, the woman sings six of the top 25 most-played songs on my iPod, and we’re just standing here outside her dressing room chatting like we’re at a cocktail party.

well the ad is misleading because it is for the single — not for all of Phillip’s downloads. And the “adds” thing is flat out wrong.

TBH, this doesn’t really matter in the long run. I was just wondering if anybody even bothers to check the adds they get for accuracy. I’m a researcher by profession, so stuff like this just bugs me.

i am very happy that Kat McPhee was pushed down my throat; she is a triple threat — sings, dances, & acts!  all her songs on itunes are outselling Megan’s songs.  so rightfully so, Hilty should be pushed to the sidelines!
and the chemistry between Karen & Derek is sizzling!  so want to see more of them together!

    Review of David’s USO show

Wow. What a rare animal: a review that gets almost all the nitty gritty facts correct, and then some.

Oh, and great photo of the crowd David’s drummer tweeted from the stage:

Archie has a new song snippet, “True Colors” from his BEGIN. album, up here: http://davidarchuleta.com/home/?p=4556

Finally (!!!! long day lol) got a chance to listen to that True Colors snip from Archie. I really love the kind of groovy, jazzy vibe to it! I thought they might slow it down and play up the ballad aspects of the song but they really surprised me on this one.
I’m getting so excited to hear the whole album. Tbh when they first announced a cover album I was kinda meh about it because covers are hit and miss with me but so far I’m digging the snips we’ve heard.

Savan denied he said anything about Britney.

Savan Kotecha ?@Savan_KotechaJust to be clear..i never once posted anything about Britney or the X factor. EIther someone hacked me or it was taken from a fake account!

Savan Kotecha ?@Savan_KotechaI haven’t tweeted anything about britney and the x factor. I unless I was hacked I think everyone has the wrong info!

  • Anonymous

He has been hacked before, so maybe that explains it. It wasn’t a fake account since people who followed him got the alert. Odd that a hacker would just delete the tweet quickly though.

I was on Twitter at the time and passed along the positive messages.  I’d give anything to go to Las Vegas!  I know how proud Taylor is – that’s an awesome marquee!  Thank you, Curly!

I wish I was going to the Idol concert tomorrow, but I’ll be at the Detroit Tigers game (97 degrees).  Then there’s Stevie Nicks in town, too!  This is the second time in 5 years that Detroit gets the first concert.  I hope they are all outstanding.  I can’t wait to hear the reviews!

  • Incipit

Thanks, Salleyanne, that’s a very comprehensive piece on DC’s concert in Hawaii, based on what I saw and heard on the fancast. I like that the band members are given mention, by name – and the attention to getting the details correct is refreshing, to say the least.

Interesting fact – There were 14 songs played, and the SSB. They were pressed for time at the end by the deadline to start the fireworks. With four minutes to go, FIM just made it in under the wire. (Military scheduling) And David still stopped to talk to a little girl.

Someone posted the original set list – the plan was to do 18 songs, and THEN do the National Anthem – Sometimes I think the dude may be quietly crazy. In a good way, of course. *wink*

I’d love to read a fan review of last night’s Durbin concert. I guess Dylan decided to show his American pride on the 4th of July by showing off his American flag undies – lmao! (so rock ‘n roll – lol)

I’m still holding strong and waiting till the release of the album before listening. I’m really interested in how True Colors sounds because I’ve seen some people on twitter describe it as “folky”. I’ve also seen it described as sounding like Works for Me. These styles don’t sound similar to me.  I’m interested in seeing what I think it sounds like.

  • Anonymous

I think Works For Me is actually a pretty good comparison — I hadn’t initially thought of that but when you mentioned it I can hear the similar vibe. I’m not a music genre expert so my descriptions probably aren’t the best. Jazzy was just the first word that came to my mind when listening. Really I’m just trying to say it has a groove to it, like something David can dig into vocally…which is what he does with Works For Me.

I love that song — I wish they had not made it just a Walmart bonus track on the first album. I can think of 2 or 3 songs right off the top of my head that I would give up to have WFM on the regular album. More people should have been given a chance to hear it.

  • Anonymous

Jazzy seems to be a popular description of it.  Your description probably is a good one. It is the folk description along with the other descriptions that is throwing me off. It is making it hard for me to get a handle on how it sounds. Who knows what I will think it sounds like when I hear it.

I love Works For Me as well.  It definitely should have made the album.  I don’t get why Waiting For Yesterday didn’t make the album either. I love that song. Those songs should have replaced Desperate and Don’t Let Go.

  • Anonymous

Unpopular opinion but I would have replaced Angels with WFM on the first album. I said I’m kind of weird about covers and the studio version on the album did nothing for me. Now, I had to eat my words about not liking Angels when I saw him perform it live because he absolutely kills it but to me the version on the album is lacking. I know a lot of people don’t agree with me on that though.

As far as the feeling of True Colors (bless you for still holding out! lol) I would equate it with this live performance of Works For Me for vibe:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4VNSJtuYEM

Obviously the snippet is only 20 seconds but I think the pulling of the notes and the pacing have similarities. Obviously it doesn’t have the same energy being a studio track but if he sang it live I think they would be pretty comparable. IMO. Also, I never realized how difficult music was to describe until tonight!

Nothing you posted runs contrary to my post about appealing to the masses rather than talent. I have yet to see McPhee demonstrate this triple threat, sing yes; dance , midrange; acting, very limited. Hilty does all three quite well thank you. Of course our opinions may vary, but for those who have similiar minds as I on the subject I suggest you check put the critics reviews from throuhout the show.
McPhee’s songs sell better because she was marketed for such a fact and she has the more pop friendly songs during the season. Hilty got more of the Broadway tunes. Again that was planned all season long. McPhee sings the songs well and it requires little acting. And she has a remnant audience from her AI run.

Didn’t see this mentioned anywhere yet. Lee is doing a PSA for the Heart Foundation, donate $5 and get a new song “Fight” from him. I also believe this PSA will be shown at the Idol tour?
