Jennifer Hudson to headline Carnival cruise shows – Back when she was a nobody, long before she blasted to stardom on “American Idol” and “Dreamgirls,” Jennifer Hudson sang on a cruise ship. And on Wednesday, the singer said she would do it again _ this time as the headliner for a new concert series on Carnival Cruise Lines called Carnival Live. “I used to work on a cruise ship, a long time ago,” said Hudson before performing at a Carnival news conference in midtown Manhattan. “That’s what I did before I did `American Idol.'” Her stint aboard a Disney cruise ship was “my test,” she said. “Two days later, I went in and auditioned for `American Idol.'” Headlining the Carnival series “is like a full circle,” she added. – Read more at Daily Journal Online

Looks like Kris’ album is moving along nicely.

#Looking forward to getting back in the studio with engineer @richiebiggs today for some master oversight of some @KrisAllen tracks. HereWeGo

Don’t let the snow keep you trapped in your house. Tonight James Durbin as seen on the hit TV show American Idol is live at Empire.

A few extra opening acts tonight too:

Cute commercial – Notice that the five cartoon characters besides the leprechaun are cartoon versions of Pentatonix. Neat!

UK XF winner Sam Bailey announces her debut album details…

unsurprisingly it’s coming out in March… only 3 months after she won… and will be an album primarily of covers…

  • Corrine43180

Wow, can’t wait to hear the whole song, love the original.

Welp. Nicholas McDonald is releasing his album of covers (and 3 original tracks) on March 10, two weeks before Sam.

“The Power of Love” and “Arms of an Angel”. Yikes. Syco really couldn’t care less.

  • Miz

He worked on the Civil Wars Grammy winning album with Charlie. Will be interesting to hear these songs.

  • Mel432

A fan put the four parts together into one youtube vid (still only 54 seconds):

Lovely voice, great song. I like that Adam covers songs that really speak to him, not just because they are current big hits.

  • Face

sad (ish) but true… oh well… thems the breaks!

  • Sassycatz

So, CQ-Roll Call — media that covers Capitol Hill closely — is reporting the following, but also is reporting that establishment Democrats are not too happy about it since Clay could take attention and votes away from a candidate who they view as having a more serious chance to take the seat. (Others have thrown their hats in already.)

“American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken is preparing to run for
Congress as a Democrat in North Carolina’s 2nd District, multiple Democratic sources confirmed to CQ Roll Call.

Thanks for linking that! I got the original article thru a subscription, so didn’t think I could link it.

  • justmefornow

Curious, is this supposed to be recent? I saw this discussed on another Idol site and the consensus there was it’s an old clip, no recent tattoos here?

  • CanadianLady

    Nice shot!

  • Corrine43180

It’s from his rehearsal yesterday. If you look closely, the tattoo sleeve is there, the filter washes it out. His bassist posted an Instagram from the rehearsal.

  • roarpen

Still perplexed about the single impact date – not seeing it lately.

  • justmefornow

Yeah, I am too. As of 1/21 when this was posted, it’s still listed for Jan. 2014. In fact look at the ad from Wind-up at the bottom that says “Impacts 1/27″.

I hope we see something soon.
(I do still plan to ask him about it tomorrow, so maybe I’ll get something concrete).

  • DragonFly

There’s an interesting review on James FB page in the “other posts” section.from Rock and Metal Amplified. I’m not sure whether this is a professional site. You might want to take a look at it, it’s a really nice write-up.

  • justmefornow

Thanks for the heads up! Just read it now, another great review of his show from Rock and Metal Amplified, which frankly I’m surprised really loved his acoustic set, lol

Also, I noticed this other interview coming up with

    Alex Obert ?@hierkommtalex
@DurbinRock Interviewing you on 1/30 in NYC for :)

  • DragonFly

Still hope James gets to some of the festivals w/a band. He needs that kind of crowd exposure where they left off w/the band. I think Rock & Metal are missing him a bit too. Like that they still comment/support. Seeing comments from fans saying afterward that they missed the promo & didn’t know he had a show in their area—grrr!. Anyway, ENJOY that show tomorrow!

A&E’s ‘Duck Dynasty’ Falls to Lowest Ratings Since 2012

It’s unclear how big of a role its recent controversy played, butA&E’s record-setting reality show “Duck Dynasty” appears to be cooling off in the ratings.

One week after returning to kick off its fifth season with a 3.3 rating in adults 18-49 and 8.5 million viewers overall, “Duck Dynasty” slid to a 2.9 in the demo and 6.65 million total viewers, according to Nielsen. This is the smallest same-night crowd for an original episode of the series since the second-season finale drew 6.45 million in December 2012.

  • justmefornow

Well here’s another review from the Orlando show that sort of confirms a full band tour after the album comes out in April. Nice words for James, but ouch for Kelly, lol…

Michelle Wilson gets up-close and personal with James Durbin!

  • thirdtime

Poor Kelley James, they really, really hated him.

  • justmefornow

Yeah, not good, lol. But don’t feel bad, he has plenty of fans. He flew out a few days ago back to Ca. for a PGA charity event and hung out with all his golf friends and this guy..

  • usedtobelucy

He’s baa-aaack. And not making his party officials happy.

Appears that Clay *does* want to run for Congress. And, wittingly or unwittingly, might act like a spoiler for another Dem who’s trying to pick off the Republican-leaning district. Kind of a selfish shellfish action that could backfire on your own party and, presumably, principles, Clay, if true, but of course there are lots of fringey people forcing primaries, all over the country.

“Democrats [are]…unhappy that they’ll now have a primary in
the difficult-to-win district and concerned about voters taking Aiken

    “‘I’m disappointed to see what’s
probably going to be a primary now in what’s already a really tough,
conservative seat,’ said one. ‘There’s a candidate already in the race
who has a very solid resume. But I guess we’re going to hash it out with
a primary now. We’re not real thrilled.'”

ETA: [Sorry, Sassykatz, didn’t see that you’d already posted the CQ/Roll Call account. Note to self: scroll down more often before posting.]

  • usedtobelucy

Well, part of this is just the show’s age, I suppose. (plus what looks to me as if it might be a continued overall decline in tv viewing) But it does seem as if maybe they lost some viewers who don’t like Duck Boy Sr.’s views. …

And it wouldn’t be surprising if they simply didn’t pick up any new viewers who *do* agree with Phil. Because, hey, who watches a tv show just because you agree with what the star says off screen, or to exhibit your support for somebody on the show? Few of us would do that more than once, really, I expect. We don’t watch tv to exhibit our principles. We watch it for entertainment.

  • CanadianLady

Love! Love! Love! I vividly remember his early acoustic performances at radio stations. Has he ever grown!

  • justmefornow

…And just one more from last night, lol. Love this version of “Love in Ruins”. (Love the wails! Really miss them)

  • justmefornow

Yup. Did I mention how excited I am to see him tonight in Freehold?!!

  • CanadianLady

    Lucky you!

  • CanadianLady

I love how he’s obviously watching Idol when he can, and not even remotely trying to distance himself from it. He seems to be in a good place where he knows exactly who he is, and is fine with that.

  • elliegrll

One the one hand, DD was the third highest rated show among the 18-49 demo, and that includes every show on the broadcast networks. But, on the bright side, I bet the advertisers expected the show to do better than 2.9, which means spineless A&E has to figure out a way to make it up to advertisers, who aren’t getting what they paid for.

  • fuzzywuzzy

This strikes me as such an odd move for Clay, especially since the Democratic party doesn’t appear to be happy about it. He’s been vocal about criticizing the NC State Republican government’s conservative direction, so a run for the State House would make more sense, especially for a novice. I hope that it’s not a publicity stunt. lol

  • justmefornow

Okay, so I have to post the new single too :)…..

  • Miz

I think the novelty is just wearing off.

  • Miz

So much fun and I can’t wait to hear ‘Paul Simon’ recorded … along with everything.

I was cracking up over people scrambling to decipher the songs on the white board only to find out later that they were someone else’s songs. LOL

  • Miz

Are they hauling the entire stage in that thing?

  • Lexie O’Neill

It does look huge, wonder if part of that is perspective? He has some risers and video screens on stage, guess other equipment goes in there, too.
