Your Super Bowl National Anthem singer is… Opera star Renee Fleming – Carrying on the great tradition of Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Kathy Lee Gifford, and the Grambling University Band, Renee Fleming will take on the task of providing bookies with another prop bet by singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, February 2. Fleming is an acclaimed opera singer who has picked up four Grammys over the course of her career and is probably best known outside of the classical world as one of the voices on the soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and for her odd (but not unpleasant) collection of indie rock covers from a few years ago – Read more at EW.com

‘Idol’ break is ideal for Crystal Bowersox, who’ll play Fulton 55 – “I wouldn’t be on the phone with you,” Bowersox says of the exposure she gained from the show. “I was a subway performer. I was a street performer, or some would say a beggar or a busker.” Since the show, she has released two albums, and performed alongside musicians such as Harry Connick Jr., Alanis Morissette, BB King and Blues Traveler (she was featured on a track on the band’s latest album). She recorded the duet “Stitches” with Jakob Dylan. It’s a busy life, Bowersox says. She has a home in Portland that she hasn’t been to since November, and she lives out a suitcase for large chunks of the year, flying around the country to play small theater and club shows. “I’m exactly where I want to be,” she says. “I love being able to see every face in my crowd.” – Read more at Fresno Bee

Kellie Pickler To Perform At JSBA Thursday – “When you listen to my first album, ‘Small Town Girl,’ and then you fast forward almost eight years to ‘The Woman I Am’ – a lot has happened in my life,” Pickler said. “I’ve experienced, and witnessed so many crazy, unbelievable things – I think this album shows that growth, and where I am as a young woman versus a young teenager. People say the word ‘change’ like it’s a bad thing, but I don’t think change is a bad thing – I think it’s a great thing. It can be a bad thing, but for me, I like to think I’m not the same person I was when I was 19 – hopefully I’m better. And, when I’m 40, hopefully I’ll be better than what I am when I’m 28.
