I really liked Jason's version of "Memory". His iTunes recording of it was lovely too. And why did he keep picking on Archie for closing his eyes? He harped on it all the way into the finale even. It's not like he had his eyes closed the whole time. Some of the other idols were doing the same thing. Like David's song says, "If it works for me, then it works for me." And it did work for him. And sometimes, you just can't see past your own creation. because I think in your mind, you created the perfect song for the perfect character. And Jason didn't fit Grizabella. About Carly, he was right that should pick the bigger, showier song. The song fit her voice. He wasn't nice to all of the AI contestants and did not show even normal respect . He could not get over the fact that Jason had dreadlocks and sang "Memory". His tone was condescending when he said in that laughingly, mocking tone that he could never have imagined that he would ever see a man with dreadlocks singing "Memory". WTF. He did not even bother to listen or consider that the song was being interpreted in a more quite manner not with the diva high notes he was used to hearing. I have seen Cats live more times than I care to admit and I can honestly say that I loved Jason's version of the song because he made it more intimate by taking the volume down and showing the pain that she was feeling and from which she wanted to be released. Considering what the song was about, the quite tone suited the song very well, IMO. ALW was closed mined and unkind. He really pissed me off. Carly followed his advice and changed her song.
