After Midnight Star Fantasia Barrino on Returning to Broadway: ‘It Feels Good But Scary at the Same Time’ – “It feels good, but scary at the same time,” said Barrino, who begins performances as the first special guest star in the Warren Carlyle-directed production on October 18. “I’m a very emotional person, so I tend to embody these roles and carry them with me.” Barrino will perform several standards in the show, which weaves together not only Ellington’s timeless songs but also those by his peers. At the meet-and-greet, Barrino performed the impassioned classic “Stormy Weather,” which Ethel Waters first sang at Cotton Club in 1933 and was made famous by Lena Horne and Billie Holiday. “If you listen to the lyrics, these women were in a lot of pain, there were dark moments in their lives,” she said. – Read more at Broadway.com

‘The Voice’ champ Cassadee Pope fondly dishes on Earnhardt look-alike racing grandpa at awards appearance – But on Monday night in Manhattan at the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Awards, the frames on her mind were the pictures she couldn’t wait to show her grandpa, 73-year-old short-track racer Alfred Casagni. “He’s going to be so jealous,” the West Palm Beach, Fla., native admitted. Pope, 24, performed at Gotham Hall for sports car racing’s elite. After singing breakout single “Wasting All These Tears,” she sat down with Newsday and explained that her passion for motorsports has always rivaled her love of music — largely because of the man she couldn’t wait to show those pictures to. – Read more at Newsday

Demi Lovato Talks Upcoming Tour & Why Ed Sheeran Inspires Her – Lovato, who will appear on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on Oct. 3 and “Ellen” on Oct. 7, wanted to talk about the slew of projects she has lined up between now and the Feb. 9 start of the Neon Lights tour, which also features Cher Lloyd and two “X Factor” acts, Fifth Harmony and Little Mix, on the bill. “It’s girl empowerment,” she told Billboard. “I helped put together Fifth Harmony, and a year later they’re on the charts, so I’m really happy for them. It’s surreal. Everyone (in the groups) is a power vocalist — they can all sing — so I love the idea of the show.” – Read more at Billboard.com

Simon Cowell on low ‘X Factor’ ratings: ‘If it’s good, the ratings will go up’ – For Simon Cowell, the ratings game is simple. “If it’s good, the ratings will go up. If it’s terrible they’ll go down,” the reality mogul told EW. The X Factor’s third season got off to a rocky start, hitting a new ratings low with its season premiere and continuing to disappoint. Cowell isn’t worried, though, and sees the dip as part of the cycle that all shows must endure. “You’ve just got to do what we’ve always done over the year for these shows,” he said. “You have your high moments, you have your dips, and you roll your sleeves up and do something better than everyone else is doing.” That high moment, he hopes, could be the new Four Chair Challenge, airing Wednesday on Fox. – Read more at Entertainment Weekly

Amber Riley’s Dancing With the Stars Blog: ‘I’m Living Every Aspect of My Dream’ – I was so excited after the dance last night because I had never done anything like that before. I’m very proud of what we did! It was a very hectic week, but I actually enjoy when I’m really busy because I’m doing what I love. I’m singing when I’m in the studio, I’m acting (and singing!) when I’m on the Glee set, then I’m doing something completely new on Dancing With the Stars. I’m getting to live every aspect of my dream. These are all things that make me happy. So it was a long week, but a fun week! I didn’t go out and celebrate after last night’s performance—I celebrated at home with sleep! – Read more at Parade.com
