Re: Amy Davisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬'maybe she couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t hear [herself] during her performance on top 24 night?

Amy should consider herself lucky. Unfortunately, I could hear her. The problem with that theory is she sang it equally as badly the next night when she was eliminated.

All joking aside, it is pretty pathetic that a show with the budget of American Idol cannot supply in-ear monitors for the Top 24 and beyond rounds. The fact that the "judges" don't have in-ear monitors makes their judgments pretty useless.

Idolfanatic--I went to those links. I didn't know that Lindsey Cardinale was such a southern/country singer. Re: Amy Davis--maybe she couldn't hear during her performance on top 24 night? I agree that she sounds much better on her myspace player.

I do remember Alexis Lopez and thought she was one of the better ones that first season. She seemed not quite ready and might have done better in a different season, it is hard to tell. Sadly, I also remember several blogs commenting that she needed a bra, LOL, and she seemed too innocent to realize she needed one. Very young presentation, but seemed to have raw talent. Odds are against most people, so I don't think there is a time limit, the contestants need something else going on outside Idol to make it. The best thing about idol is the exposure, not idol itself, so never say never.

Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been several music compilations from Idol also rans. They keep churning them out, so I suppose someone is buying them. They must be cheap to make-low overhead.

You are right, they are probably cheap to produce as they don't require big name promotions or special effects. Since SoundScan may not have every avenue for sales covered (I don't think they follow independently-sold albums), they probably have sold a bit better than the charts show.

The also-rans also have dozens of individual albums out as well.

As for the old names and success, it seems to be that a few can get somewhere on their own, even though others who did much better in their season really got nowhere. Among non-finalists, I would say the most successful are (although most of them would have been considered total flops if they made the finals considering their expectations, many finalists have done much worse):

Ayla Brown (5) - had moderate airplay with her songs over the past couple years, even though it isn't a big selling album
Brianna Taylor (5) - although she was helped considerably by a second TV appearance, she had recorded before appearing on Real World and sold really well (at least digitally)
Brooke Barrettsmith (5) - quite popular in the contemporary Christian circles with decent sales and significant airplay
Frenchie Davis (2) - although she had a sympathy vote for a controversial decision, she has become a mainstay on Broadway, and done some recording
Jeff Johnson (4) - while he didn't sell much, he ranked high on the charts for quite a while in Christian music, reaching the top 20
Josiah Leming (7) - not sure what its physical sales are, but he sold a lot on iTunes
Sarah Burgess (6) - is getting a fair bit of airplay on many stations, especially in smaller markets

With one exception, none of them even made the semi-finals.

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s actually the second edition in that compilation. There was another one released last year, with a slightly different cast of characters (Lisa Leuschner, for instance, was on that one but not this one).

Poor Lindsey Cardinale choked on the show. She's actually a wonderful singer, and has some pretty nice alt/country type stuff up on her My Space.

I also like Amy Davis, her last perfomance was bad, which is a shame cause I think she could have shown more. Her music is very interesting.

I feel bad for these guys. People who are just good singers (donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t write, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t play instruments) should go directly to musical theater (or dinner theater). Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just little market for them in the music industry (I guess Carrie Underwood is an exceptionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬'she just sings, right?)

Not sure about all of them, but Amy Davis writes almost all of her own songs. She's definitely that singer/songwriter type that COULD have done well had she been given more air time in Hollywood Week and had chosen a different song Top 24 Week.

Also, Carrie has co-written several of her songs. One on her first album and like four on her second. She also wrote one of the songs Kristy Lee Cook's album.

I'm a fan of Lindsey Cardinale and Amy Davis (don't mock). Yes they did not have the best runs on the show, but I have heard their post idol music on their myspace pages and am quite impressed. They are much more talented than we saw on the show. It's a shame that many people came away from those seasons thinking they sucked and could not sing. Meanwhile people like Sanjaya made it as far as he did in his season.
