Jennifer Hudson and Chris Angel are two of the celebrity guests joining the Black Eyed Peas and Oprah Winfrey for her show’s 24th season kickoff party Tuesday, September 8.   The taping begins at 5 pm, and you can sign up on line, HERE.   The show will air Thursday September 10.   This will be the first public appearance for Jennifer since she recently gave birth to a baby boy…

Simon Cowell tells Extra that the new season of American Idol without Paula Abdul is “different” and that he misses her. Using one of his famous meaningless analogies, Simon says comparing the show with and without Paula is “like comparing a carrot to a banana.”   Uhm. Whatever.

Speaking of Simon Cowell, Simon protoge, and Britain’s Got Talent runner-up, Susan Boyle’s upcoming album, I Dreamed A Dream jumped to the top of the Amazon.com chart after it was   released for pre-order a few days ago. Currently, Susan is beating out Whitney Houston and the Beatles for the top spot. I don’t get it. Really, Susan is an average singer. It might help that her album is now listed for only $9.99… I Dreamed a Dream drops November 24.

Carrie Underwood’s wax figure from Madame Tussaud’s in New York City is moving to the Madame Tussaud’s in Washington, DC for the fall and winter. Wax figures = Creepy!

Some Broadway news: Constantine Maroulis will take part in the annual Broadway on Broadway concert, hosted this year by Michael McKean (Spinal Tap, awesome Christopher Guest movies), in Times Square on September 13. And Toxic Avenger’s Diana DeGarmo will be a judge in New York Musical Theater Festival’s Next Broadway Sensation competition, to be held at New World Stages on September 13, September 20, and October 4.

Katharine McPhee joins Lionel Richie for An Evening of Stars, the United Negro College Fund’s yearly televised celebration of excellence in entertainment and education. The program takes place September 12th from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in CA, and will air in January, 2010 on BET, WGN and other cable stations.

Season 4 runner up, Bo Bice will head back to his hometown of Helena, Alabama to help raise awareness and money for local Helena organizations, with a concert and poker run Sept. 26. More information HERE.

President Obama is set to hold a press conference on Wednesday September 9 at 8 pm. NBC, CBS and ABC have committed time to the president. FOX has not, and probably won’t–they declined to interrupt an episode of So You Think You Can Dance back in July for a scheduled conference. No effing way are they preempting the premiere of their hot new show, Glee for the president…

Ha! Even though I support Obama, I don’t support news conferences during the first week of new Fall programming! Really, Barack? I was SO freakin’ happy when they didn’t interrupt SYTYCD. Way to hold your ground FOX!

And in related news…. Adam Lambert’s wax figure from the banner on his official web site has finally fianlly been replaced by an actual photo of Adam!

  • relyec

Yeah 4 Fox, not everyone gives a darn what Obama has to say, Yeah for Glee!

  • adamepyare

I’m so glad that they aren’t pre-empting Glee! I was a bit worried when I heard of Obama making the speech yesterday.

  • TheOriginalIdol

MJ, I’m just curious, does anyone know whats happening with the Adam Lambert Pre-Idol album “On With The Show” I’ve been trying to keep an eye out but after the original hub-bub of news and the release of “Want” on iTUNES, there hasn’t been a peep in that direction. Did 19 Recordings maybe take care of this behind the scenes?

    PS I’m excited for Glee!

  • melianthus

There is some recording of Susan Boyle floating around a few months ago, I cannot remember what she was singing but it wasn’t a show tune. It was part of a benefit done for someone a few years ago. Anyway, I was shocked at how wonderful she was. I wouldn’t be surprised if her album is good.

  • melianthus

Oh I remember, it was Cry me a River. She was excellent!

  • 123abc456

I think Susan will do well. She has an incredible voice and a good story.

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

[sigh] Call me old fashioned, guys, but the prez should take precedence!

Just shift everything to start after the conference. Folk with DVRs take heed, and set them for extra time accordingly. The only thing which should get shafted at the end of the night is the local 11pm news. No big whoop.

  • Tess

I really don’t begrudge SuBo her 15 minutes of fame. It’s nice that she has been given the opportunity to “live” a little and get out into the world. What I do find sad is that a lot of people, other than Susan, are going to make a mint from her album because of all the really nice people in the world who have been captivated by Susan’s story.

I also find it a bit sad that people who have spent their whole lives working for some kind of career in music, have a much better voice than Susan’s, and understand what the “biz” is all about and the hard work it entails just get pushed to the back of the bus for this “internet” wonder who hasn’t done a thing to warrant her success.

I know that life isn’t fair but I still think the whole thing stinks….and in the long run they aren’t doing Susan any favors. She doesn’t have the street smarts to really understand what is happening and she obviously doesn’t have the mental fortitude or stamina to keep her “career” going after the intial bloom leaves the rose.

Oh well, Simon will make another quick million or more and then he will run, as fast as possible, off to the next poor bloke who crosses his path and looks like the goose who might lay the golden egg. UGH.

I don’t think the President will mind if 1 of 7 national networks doesn’t carry his press conference. Besides it will give the Obama girls something fun to watch before they head off to bed.

[laugh] Point taken, but still! And I’m someone who REALLY wants to see Glee!

[evil grin] Besides which, I bet they’re gonna be up there on stage clapping on cue…therefore, Glee should come on AFTER so they have a chance to watch too!

This isn’t just relative to Susan Boyle though – this is life. I bet there are thousands of unemployed actors in Hollywood who are good and have been working to get a break for years only to watch someone who can’t act their way out of a paper bag become the next big thing.

Most of the great composers weren’t even appreciated until after they were dead which didn’t do them a whole helluva lot of good.

I don’t like susan that much :x um,yay????? Carrie’s wax thing will be local…a half hour drive at themost…..

  • abbysee

Carrie’s wax thing moving to DC for the winter? Yeah don’t want her ass to get to cold in NY. Bon Voyage, missy….

This Susan Boyle thing reminds me of what some where talking about in the news thread today. How all it takes is for someone to be leading on some chart to be able to claim victory. She may outsell some of those folk on Amazon, but where else? Isn’t that where the old people buy music? J/K!!!!!

I dig my Prez and all, but hasn’t he been on teevee more than any president in history? After a while people gonna stop tuning in dude.
;-) I think Glee’s ratings are gonna be through the roof!

Good to see McPhee giving back, now if she could get back her natural hair color….

Ooooh, I like these smilies

I am glad to hear about Bo Bice and Susan is one of Simons pet projects..She may do quite well.I don’t know how Susan will do in the USA though…Glee will give something else to watch besides the president…

  • karenw

According to Amazon UK .. Robbie Williams’ album is #1 on pre order with Susan Boyle at #5 … so perhaps she’s going to do better in the US than she is here in the UK.

  • Daytripper73

    Since mj mentioned Glee…

There’s an American Idol tie in as Diana DeGarmo auditioned for the role of Rachel Berry (that ultimately went to Lea Michele). Lea is great in the role but it certainly would have been fun for AI fans to have a former Idol on such a funny show.

  • poporange

    Already stated….

    Hi MJ !

Best to stay out of politics ! It’s ugly out there.

  • Lu

When I first saw Susan Boyle’s youtube, I cried like a baby. It was one of those ugly duckling/swan moments I guess. I hope she can do at least well enough to make a decent living and hope she’ll have some people around her to watch out for her interests. I guess I’m in the minority but I think she has a beautiful voice.

  • poporange

    HI LU :

I think Susan also ha a beautiful voice also maybe not the best one i heard and yes I think she will be able to make a living

  • gypkap

MJ–A couple weeks ago, my wife found a way to take a Youtube song and transfer it into iTunes. The instructions were in the live Idol concert section, but she doesn’t remember the date when she saw it. I don’t know if this is where I need to ask a question of this sort. My EMail is

This whole subject annoys me. Some of the most talented don’t get the recognition they deserve. It’s all about money.
