I know this was news a couple of weeks ago, but it took me some time to compile the entire chart.  Ãƒâ€š

The big Billboard winners for 2007  are Chris Daughtry, who has 11 #1 chart positions, and Carrie Underwood, with 5 #1 positions.   Daughtry is the #1 selling artist for the Billboard year.   Carrie Underwood is the #1 female artist and the #1 country album artist.

Fourteen Idols make an appearance on the 2007 charts:

  • Bucky Covington
  • Carrie Underwood
  • Chris Daughtry
  • Elliott Yamin
  • Fantasia
  • Jennifer Hudson
  • Jordin Sparks
  • Katharine McPhee
  • Kellie Pickler
  • Kelly Clarkson
  • Kimberley Locke
  • Mandisa
  • Ruben Studdard
  • Taylor Hicks

Check out the chart to see how the rest of the Idols did.   Will the Idols fare as well come 2008?   That remains to be seen.   Carrie’s “Carnival Ride” is sure to be a big winner next year.   Taylor Hicks, Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson are some of the Idols planning album releases for the coming year.   And, new releases by Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis could figure on next year’s charts.

Any thoughts on what the new year might bring?

Thanks for compiling the chart info, MJ. I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for this blog and for all of the info provided here.

    Happy New Year!

I know some will disagree with this but in IMO it is not a bad thing for Idol contestants to find a little fame even if the didn’t catch the gold ring. What brought this thought to mind was browsing through the year-end charts and finding quite a few names on there that did not finish up either first or second. Season 5 is very well represented in the non-winner category who have released very successful to moderately successful CDs. I guess Ace is the only one who has not released his own album or appeared on another’s album (I think I am right about this – please correct me if I am wrong). And of course, Ace has made a name for himself through his charitable efforts and I understand he will release an album in 2008 (I can hardly wait for its release and will be first in line to buy it). Ace, as you know, has received a Grammy nomination for his help on one of Chris’ songs. Mandisa has done well in the Christian field (and good for her, I always thought she had a lovely voice. Chris, Elliott, Kellie and Bucky are among the more successful of the Season 5 crop.

I digressed a little above but it is really interesting to see what a non-winner can do provided he has the talent and a showcase like Idol. Season 6 is following in the steps of Season 5 with modest to moderate success already. This includes Chris S. and Chris R. who is busily writing songs for others and hoping to put a CD out in the new year. And, of course, Lakeisha Jones has gotten a role on Broadway and Melinda Doolittle has been a guest on many shows and toured a little with Michael W. Smith and I am sure she is destine for greatness). Phil has just signed a contract with Lyric St. Records. I understand Josh Gracin greeted Phil with a welcome to the AI label. Josh and Bucky have already signed there and are busy pursuing their careers. Carmen Rasmunnsin also has a country contract. This, of course is just a few of the Idols out there busily plying their musical trade. You know who they are as well as I do. I wish them all well and if I like their music I will buy their CDs. PS: I read yesterday that Haley from S6 is trying to break into the country genre. So Country may end up being knee deep in Idol hopefuls.
