Matt Lauer Set to Be Skewered at Celebrity Roast

The burning question is, will Matt Lauer still be speaking to them in the morning?

Lauer, 50, is slated to be the victim à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ that is, “honoree” à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ when the Friars Club gathers at the New York Hilton Oct. 24 and rakes the Today host over the coals, humorously, at its annual celebrity roast à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ an event noteworthy for wildly uncensored remarks at the expense of the guest of honor.

Among those scheduled to appear at the by-invitation-only, not-for-broadcast event include Lauer’s predecessor Bryant Gumbel, his former sidekick Katie Couric and the current one, Meredith Vieira à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ as well as his across-the-channel rival, Good Morning America’s Diane Sawyer.

Also promised by the entertainers’ fraternity to deliver no-bars-held remarks at its event: Clay Aiken, Joy Behar, Bob Saget, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Vanessa Williams, Aretha Franklin, Eric McCormack, Tony Shaloub, Jerry Stiller, Mario Lopez and Donald Trump.

    People

Traditionally the Friars donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t allow TV crews to cover their roasts. But cameras will be there, and some of it will be shown on “Today” on NBC.

Here’s another radio appearance as reported by Snarky Archies

Tuesday, Oct 21. David will be calling KDND 107.9 FM The End in Sacramento to talk about Jingle Ball.

From what I’ve read, with the exception of the one above, all of these radio appearances are in-studio, rather than via telephone. On Tuesday, for example, he’ll be in Seattle in the morning and then in Milwaukee in the afternoon. I guess it’s possible but that’s a whole lot of traveling. I just hope he stays safe. Actually, I’m hoping the information at Fans of David is inaccurate and that some of these are actually telephone interviews rather than in-studio. I guess I worry a lot for him.

ETA: clee1107 beat me to the news regarding the Sacramento gig.

I’m glad that they are in-studio, if that’s the case. DA does so much better with the interviews, is more charming and engaged with the DJs when he’s in-house than he is when on the phone. I think he’s such a people person, that he needs to see them, make eye contact or something. Sometimes when in-studio, he ends up nearly leading the interview as he and DJ end up having more of a give and take conversation than an interview with a 10-point list of the same old questions and the same old answers. Though he generally does well, he seems more vague and discombobulated when he’s on the phone for some reason.

The DWTS curse continues, Brooke Burke reportedly hurt, but will dance tonight. Will anyone be left standing once this season is over? Maybe Cloris? LOL!

Just noticing all of the David A appearances. He is going to be one busy kid. So glad for the radio blitz, that means great publicity for his cd and a chance that Crush will continue to climb the charts and hopefully be in top 10 or 5 when his cd drops. I can wish right?

Also…I’m so exciting to see David again on Dec 3rd in Sacramento.

Come to think of it, you are absolutely correct. He seems to win over the DJs much more when he’s actually in studio with them. They are also much less likely to make snarky remarks because it’s so very hard to resist his adorableness. I feel better about this now. Thanks, Jabkmc!

This article in the Seattle Times confirms that he will at least be doing the interview in Seattle in person tomorrow. He’ll even be doing a meet and greet…

Yep, “American Idol” boy wonder David Archuleta is coming to town Tuesday, and all day today, Monday, Oct. 20, Seattle hit-music station 106.1 KISS-FM is giving away tickets to see him in person at the radio station.

It’s a listen-to-win deal, so tune in to the station or listen online à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ http://kissfmseattle.com à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ where you can also find more details on Archuleta’s studio appearance, scheduled for 7 a.m. Tuesday. A station rep said Archie will “meet and greet” with the fans after the on-air interview during “Jackie and Bender,” which airs mornings from 5 to 10.

Archuleta, a sweet-voiced 17 year old who rose to fame last season on “American Idol” (where he was runner up to David Cook), is riding the wave of a successful single, “Crush,” and plenty of anticipation for his debut, self-titled CD, coming out next month.
