It’s so weird reading this thread after reading about the huge crowds for Archuleta in Asia. RCA should start promoting Cook OUTSIDE of Idol. The effectiveness of AI promotion is gonna stop working one day or another. I guess $$ is their mine priority right now but they should consider his career in the long run.

And I love idea that Idol is bringing their own alumni to perform for the result shows. So far we saw, Carly, Michael, Brooke, Kelly, Carrie and Ruben, and tonight we have Pickler. Good stuff indeed.

Why are you basing DC’s marketing/promotions on Archie’s? For one thing, they’re totally different artists. Also, they could go to Asia and Europe but maybe, later when they finished with the States. And yes, $ was a priority when David Cook and his band went to entertain the troops.

It is amazing what kind of boost a performer can get from being on idol-amazing. Good for Cookie.

Good for Cook. I am not sure what DA will sing when he goes on, but I hope it gives him a boost too!

I personally thought David “phoned in” that performance. He seemed, I don’t know, tired? But good for him – that’s a great pickup in sales!

Yup, RCA and Fuller have been promoting David outside of Idol. He’s extending his college tour, too. So yeah, I’d say that there’s a lot going on in addition to Idol. It does help to be a legit winner. Clearly.

ETA: DC and Archie will be performing in Manila in May. And DC is starting to do press in Europe. It takes time. But yeah, they are both getting out there.

Also, not all Idol pimpage pays off. A performance does not always translate into monster sales or boostage.

But I have no doubt Archie will hit it out of the park when he does perform. Damn, I miss the Davids this season.

Wow – David Cook is a powerhouse to be reckoned with! Good news on his career just keeps coming in. I just read online in the Springfield Sun – News that his concert sold out in 3 minutes. The person in charge said they have never experienced anything like it. He said it was only announced a week earlier that the tickets would go on sale. They are going to request David’s management to allow them to give the ok to sell more than the 1100 cap that was requested. Congratulations Mr Cook!

Hmmm, I wonder if this is the same boost that caused the concert tickets that went on sale this morning for 1500 seats to reportedly sell out in three minutes? And I got tickets11111!! Woot! Unbelievable!

You know, to me, the whole 19 is trying to turn Cook into Daughtry 2.0 thing is like saying Spock and Data grappled with the same issues as outsiders so they were basically written to be the same Star Trek character, when they were so not. Maybe you could make an argument for Data evolving from Spock, but when you break it down, they each have their own unique storylines and character traits and are beloved by fans for much different reasons. By the way, I *heart* Data. So, yeah. :wink1_tb:

Yeah, I think I read an article to that effect. And even fewer new releases are projected to go platinum from here on out, platinum is the new double platinum, yada yada yada.

Yep, David will always be my first (never watched Idol ’til Cookie) and I do feel a little guilty liking Adam as much as I do…. :wink_ee:

As far as his world wide promotion, I think that an appearance from DA on idol, “might” have helped promote his floundering second single, and taking the time to promote him outside the US at this time seems like a wasted effort. I am glad the efforts for Cook have been focused here, world Cookification will come in due time.

Thanks, MJ, for highlighting both the Davids today. It is good to know that their much deserved careers are still moving forward. Cookie is doing real well with the college crowd and hopefully it will continue when he gets the opportunity to perform in larger arenas with a more diverse crowd. And, even though David A. is on a different thread, congrats to him for awarding his international fans with the opportunity to “meet” him and see him perform live. I can’t wait to read about their joint Asian venture.

All of this is good for us AI fanatics. It shows that the time invested in these new talents is worthwhile. I hope the new Idols will have some of the success that has been awarded to Kelly and Carrie and Chris and the Davids and the other recording artists that have come from this show. Hopefully, we can all continue to support them.

I never believed they wanted him to be the next Daughtry..but I do believe 19 very much wanted a successful yet marketable male winner they can be proud of. I think he’s done that much for them. Ruben sold well but got overshadowed by Clay, Taylor is still mocked by them till this day and they shove plants in front of his face. At least they can say so far he’s the only male winner that didn’t get outsold immediately by a lower place finisher.

The story was about David Cook’s success in album sales but all the jealous sore losers come on here ranting about the contestant they liked that lost. Give it up folks and move on. Obviously, the previous contestants moved on to some very successful careers so why do all of you insist on bashing David Cook?? He is an awesome entertainer, singer, songwriter and musician and that’s why he won American Idol. He was never in the bottom three and was able to give a good performance no matter what the genre of music was. I’m sure American Idol is content with his successes and is not sorry they invested in his first album. Platinum sales in three months is miraculous in this economy!!

Ummmmmmmmm…promoting outside of Idol? Yeah. I think that has happened, is happening. I do believe his album went platinum long before his guest appearance on Idol this season. Yeah I’m a fan. I saw the dang AI tour 3 times just to see him sing the same 5 songs. It was worth the ticket prices AND the travel costs. I went through some gyrations to get tickets to a non-college campus show on this tour, which sold out 1200-1300 seats in about 15 minutes. And this show is gonna be worth SO much more than those AI shows! To me, for him, for me to see him NOT on AI. Ya know, dawg.

They always have ex-AI contestants and winners back on the show. It doesn’t seem to like anyone is trying to “make” David Cook be anyone but David Cook. He’s singing whatever he wants to sing on this tour, from Van Halen and Fleetwood Mac covers to songs from his unreleased solo album to, of course, songs from DCTR. He’s got his own band, that he put together. I really hope to see him stick around the music business for a LONG time. I STILL want to know what he’s going to do next!

ETA: Hooray for the boost! I think that just means that some people who weren’t watching for his album suddenly noticed that he has an album out and bought it, probably based largely on that performance. I agree with previous poster – he DID seem a little tired or the sound was off or something. I was surprised when they showed this string section playing along with them. WTF? Just let the band play this song, they got this thing….

Speaking of Europe and Asia – I read that the release dates for DCTA for Europe was April 5th 2009 and Japan is not til July 7th…

Love the album and I’m so happy that others were introduced to it by his performance on AI. Also, the video of Come Back to Me was number 8 on I-tunes yesterday. I saw it as high as 7, but it may have been higher. Love the video and love the song. Basically, you know, I love the guy.

By the way, I don’t think David is trying to be the next Daughtry. I think he is quite happy being the first David Cook. Many of us agree with him.

David Cook is playing to big crowds as well. In fact people are demanding bigger venues. And his tour keeps getting extended because of the demand. I guess some people that don’t follow him closely don’t realize that he chose to do a college tour intentionally. I won’t get into why, but it is a very smart decision. By the way, he played for 6000 people in NC the other night.

To Sydia: as you might or might not know, AI is shown in a number of countries around the world, and DC already has tons of fans because of that. It’s actually quite annoying for all of us that once AI is over the Idols do not give even 5 minutes to their fans abroad for months and months… Thankfully we have the web (thanks YouTube!) where we can follow DC. Not many people can take an intercontinantal flight to go to a concert…
So, here’s to hoping he’s coming to Europe soon for a gig!

I must agree with you ilovemj. I have lurked here for years and have seen many more insults hurled at other winners and contestants than ever thrown at Cook. And Archie has been at the receiving end of more than his share.

His first ad was in magazines. I work in Manhattan and I’ve seen the newer one on bus stops and subways, up until about a month people were seeing the posters in malls. The newer one also advertises his album with a picture of it so it’s promotion. I had heard through someone in the Times Square Skechers store his summer promotion for them will be focused in magazines and billboards.

Even on this thread you question if he is being marketed outside of AI when it is clear he is. The college tour is def to gain new fans outside of AI since not that many watch the show or will admit they do, lol. His Skechers endorsement isn’t AI related and I have seen that in plenty of malls. We don’t know how it will work for both he and Archie but both are def being promoted outside AI.

Archie and DC are both doing well no matter how some may try to spin it or convince otherwise and the competition is long over for them but clearly not for some fans.

My point is all sides are all fault. We all have our opinion on what fanbases are worse (which is probably the fanbase we aren’t on) but all sides are guilty.

I still stand by what I said that there is more Archie bashing than Cook bashing though. A quick cursory glance from MJ’s archives will prove what I’m saying.

There is no need for a truce because we were never at war but thank-you We all get a little heated sometimes esp. with the fanwars and competition that AI is known for and always brings. Even when we try to stay away from it, not get in the middle of it or not let it bother us it still can and does a lot of the time. I had a feeling you thought it was a Cook fan making those comments and that your comments were fueled by that so I figured I’d let you know. I just wish we could all let it all go and just be happy for them no matter who we prefer esp. since both boys are doing so well and they are so close but what are you gonna do?

Nothing wrong with constructive criticism but some is mean-spirited. They aren’t competing so it’s not necessary. They’re both doing well with very different styles.

I wanted to tell someone that I heard David Cook’s new single, Come Back to Me, on Sirius today! I sat in my car and listened to it. Funny how a song sounds different when heard on the radio instead of an ipod. As if it gains more objectivity and validity. All I can say is, it sounded good. It fit right in with the other songs (on channel 12, the Pulse).

Heh. Just wanted to respond to this. I go a little nuts (still) when LO comes on the radio, and it drives my son crazy. He says “you can hear it any time you want, why is the radio such a big deal”. But you said it – so much of my DC fandom is internet based, and hearing him in “real life” makes the success seem real.

I live in New England and as had been said before, we love Idols, so I get to hear David Cook (and others) on the radio all the time. They’ve been playing CBTM already too.

David Archuleta should perform on the show to promote his album too.
He needs the boost as well.

I’ve assumed they’ll have DA on the show too. I can’t imagine that they won’t. It’s surprising nobody’s heard anything yet though.

I think as the runner up they might have him on the finale or in the last week or two of the show. I think they had DC early to coincide with his single release, and because as the winner he’ll probably be on twice, i.e. he’ll have to be on the finale because the winner always is.

As runner up I think DA will be given a strong show of respect by having him on late in the show where it’s more interesting and has the most viewers.
