I actually think this is a good pick for Anoop.

Wonder if another ballad will hurt him? I kind of think Anoop has reached the Go Big or Go Home point. I know he can do this well but he has done well the last two weeks vocally so I’m not sure.

This is an excellent choice for Anoop. I’m so excited to see what he does with it tonight! I know he will be amazing!

NO – really it is Disco night, do tell. Uh yes I know that and hate Disco but Donna Summer, I dislike more, for a man and she has been soooo overdone.

I agree, kizgold. I think this is the week Anoop has to do something up-tempo and nail it if he wants a shot at sticking around. Another slow(ish) song isn’t going to do him any favors.

It starts out ballady and goes uptempo. An excellent choice, I think. And the uptempo part has the sweet melody and tender lyrics so he won’t have to try hard to infuse into the song. He is already tender and sweet. I think maybe I can actually eat supper today, thanks to this Chris guy. Usually MJ’s dress rehearsal spoiler doesn’t come early enough for me to stop freaking out so I lose weight no Tuesday which is actually not a bad thing.

Dim all the Lights stats slow but gets more uptempo as you get into it. If Anoop does the same it could be a great choice for him!

@Ellie and Kizmo, the way Donna did it live was that it starts out slow, and goes uptempo. I’d think that is how it will be done tonight.

Anoop’s is going to milk the “play it safe” as much as possible, I knew he’d do a “ballad.y” song, KNEW IT, but I do like his ballads…so, I guess it’s okay, I’ve purchased two of his songs on itunes, and they’re the ballads..

Now, my man Adam I purchased every song he’s done, that dude can sing anything, although I would prefer he’d “play it safe” once in a while… I do like some safe songs… and he’d crush a “safe song”

I agree with this for one reason, he is a blabber mouth when it comes to spoilers but I did not like what he did for Lil, at all, with The Rose.

Did you all just listen to the first 10 seconds of the song or something? Dim All The Lights isn’t a ballad. It starts a little ballady, but picks up to a nice midtempo groove as a dance song.

So no, not a ballad.

“Dim All The Lights” starts as a ballad and then goes uptempo, which is what I think Anoop needs to do. (I don’t think he’d pull off a fully uptempo performance – baby steps!) It’s not exactly similar to Cyndi Lauper or Bryan Adams. He might get some props for picking a female artist song.

Kris is another one who has yet to really perform an uptempo song, but I think he’ll probably be in his comfort zone tonight with the Bee Gees and a guitar. I have a feeling that Danny and Matt might be overconfident about their ability to perform an uptempo disco song and might be pretty cheesy.

i think this song would be good for anoop it starts off slow then goes up tempo..
vocally i think he can kill it, hopefully his performance is up to par..
and *cross fingers* hopefully he gets the pimp spot !

On YouTube, from 2006 there is Donna Summer herself doing an arrangement that starts out as a stripped down version a cappella or close to it, which then turns into the full-blown disco arrangement. But it sounds like it could be terrible scrunched into 1:30.

This arrangement is 1.44 so song works well cut down. Absolutely think Anoop can do a great job with this, very discoish to start slow and then change to dance beat so judges can’t call him on doing a ballad and they can’t complain that he sounded like the original (good move to chose a female artist). Nice range changes to show off his vocals. And, doesn’t require much dancing

I think it’s a great song for him. He wont have to have the “player” attitude that the judges hate.

The song has some great vocal moments in it, and the melody is catchy.

It helps that is not the typical Overdone disco song.

This is a great choice for Anoop! Can’t wait to see what he does with it!

Love this song for Anoop! Sweet lyrics yet not syrupy, and lots of glory notes. Plus, it’s a girl song so hopefully he gets credit for taking a risk and switching things up. Hope he remembers to smile and ditches the faux-gangsta moves. I’m stoked!

I had only listened to 30 seconds of Dim All the Lights on iTunes at first so I was confused by people calling a ballad, lol. I had to find a full-length version. I agree with those who say it will play to his strengths: It starts off slower where he can get on track with the vocals and then goes uptempo but isn’t an aggressive song so he can still be himself. I do wonder what the arrangement will be like. I would guess some of the lyrics in the slower beginning will be cut and it will go uptempo a lot sooner.

I’m old too – and I have a funny for ya’. About 2 years ago, John Secada was the big act booked for this charity auction I went to. I was so excited, as I remembered many a fun summer day in the early 90′s cruising in my cute little single-girl car with just me, the wind and John Secada. Then, he came out, and sucked hard. His voice was shot and I cannot even describe the lame and super cheesy dance moves he was executing all over the stage.

To this day, if a John Secada song comes on the radio, I have to turn it off quickly or I start cringing with sympathetic embarrasment for the guy.

And – I’m hoping that Kris spoiler is a fake.

If Anoop stays with the slowness and stays with the ballad, he’ll be okay but will be declared to be too safe, boring or both. If he switches to uptempo in the middle, he’ll either be hailed for stepping out of his box if he succeeds or will be castigated ala Matt. I’m not a fan but I’m a little scared for him since he hasn’t really succeeded with the faster songs.

Re: Kris’ rumored song choice…that is scary, I would not be happy if it were for real, haha. That said, I don’t think he’s going to be making any more random song choices like “All She Wants to Do Is Dance”. His choice of “Falling Slowly” really makes me think he’s putting effort into it again. Which is awesome, haha.

I can see Adam doing something from Saturday Night Fever and working his inner Travolta! “Disco Inferno” would RAWK!

I’d love to see Danny do “Get Up” by James Brown! He could nail that! He could also pull off “Get Down Tonight” by KC and the Sunshine Band or “Brick House” by the Commodores. Knowing Danny he will do “Never Can Say Goodbye” by Gloria Gaynor.

Lil should do Donna Summer’s “Love to Love You Baby” and put a sexy soulful twist on it; however I can see her doing “I’m So Excited” or “I Will Survive” and blowing it as usual…

Kris loves Michael Jackson so he might choose “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough” but as discussed he should stay clear of “Billie Jean”. I’d like to see him do “Let’s Groove Tonight” by Kool and the Gang or “It Only Takes a Minute” by Tavares

Other than Beat It, his problem hasn’t been singing the fast songs but what he was singing and his dancing/performing at least in the judges’ eyes. I think this one can be perfect for him if he doesn’t do too much of the slow bit and doesn’t go crazy with the dancing. I’m not a Donna Summer fan but think this is a perfect one for Anoop. Fingers crossed that he’s in the 2nd half tonight.

Anoop has gone 1-4-2 the last 3 weeks, so hopefully he’ll sing in the back half of the show tonight, but I’m not holding my breath.

Finally, the biggest anticipated spoiler, for me, for you, for me, tonight dawg: Has Bruce figured out how to direct, yet or is Ryan going to end up a twitching mess like the boss in the Pink Panther movies?

Undercooked .. I feel the same way .. whilst I’ve bopped to Funkytown in past and find the song is fun .. it has practically no lyrics at all .. and then a lot of them are sung through one of those voice box thingies.

If it’s true and Adam’s singing this I hope he throws a few shapes to take away the boredom of the lyrics .. lol

Hmm, if this is legit some of them have decent choices.

Knock on Wood: it’s what I hoped Kris or Matt would sing, but I love Allison and I am sure she could do it justice.

Saturday Night: guessing it isn’t the Bay City Rollers version…doesn’t seem very disco to me. If that’s the case I don’t know for Kris. He has a sweet falsetto but it’s not 100% reliable. It will be intersting to see what he can do with it if in fact it’s the Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever.

Last Dance: predictable choice for Lil, I want her gone so….yeah

Can’t Get Enough of Your Love: Totally got this song confused with another one! Yeah so this sounds great for Matt (I actually wanted this for Allison) but it could definitely work!

Dim All the Lights: I wouldn’t have expected this song in particular, but it makes sense for Anoop. It’s his comfort zone right now.

Funky Town: I think the title says it all. I never really enjoy Adam’s upbeat performances so I am guessing this will be more of the same. I won’t want to listen but I am sure it will be entertaining.

Celebration: …go right ahead Danny! Such a lame song and I want him to go.

Unlike most here, I don’t dislike Lil, I feel she has been crushed by this competition and the comments, but I do think with training, she could carve out a niche in music, somewhere. She needs to find the right material, move her ego out of the way, and just listen. She gets so defensive that it’s been offputting at times.

Did you make snacks for those 5 minute commercials. I find I love all of their performances better when there’s a soccer matcg going on to get through the commercials. Soccer is so amazing. They play even through the freaking commercials. They play through being hurt (unless a head injury) and keep going if and when they score…yeah they don’t score all that much but it’s the getting there that counts. I think, somehow, the same could be said for the idol contestants.

I honestly don’t get the “one of a kind” originality of Adam – one week he goes major OTT, and the next week he strips down a song to the bare minimum and uses his theatrical skills to pour emotion into it. A 2 trick pony to me…and his voice may be “technically” excellent, but his higher register grates on my last nerve.
