This new round of grants will honor the legacy of American Idol, a series that encouraged people to dream big and follow their passion for music. Give a Note Foundation will solicit nominations for “Music Education Idols” from students, parents, and the general public. To nominate a music educator, individuals will complete a short application and include a video testimonial (up to 30 seconds) describing how the music teacher inspired them to discover their creative potential. Nominations open today, June 27, 2016, following Friday’s grant program announcement at the annual leadership meeting of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), an affiliated organization of Give a Note Foundation. Craig Wayne Boyd Reflects on Christina Grimmie’s Death: ‘We Can’t Let Fear Win’ – “I’ve been in Nashville since 2004, and walked the streets and played the honky tonks, and that’s what I’ve been used to,” he relates. “To come off a show that threw rocket fuel on all expectations that I ever had of playing country music, it brings out fans that you don’t expect. I’ve had a few moments, especially the first few months off of The Voice … people flying in from overseas and things like that. Moments where I was just looking around for security, like, ‘All right, this is a little bit more than I can handle at the moment.’” – Read more at Taste of Country

American Idol winner Lee DeWyze to perform in Greeley, Colorado – “After my song was played in ‘The Walking Dead,’ I think it opened people’s eyes to me as a songwriter,” he said. “I’m looking for honest music that means something. I want to write music like what I listened to growing up.” He understands why people may not make the connection between being an “American Idol” alum and being a songwriter, though. He describes himself as a “songwriter who happened to win ‘American Idol.’” – Read more at Wyoming News.com

Country star Bucky Covington says online impersonator is trying to scam fans – Country star Bucky Covington sounds the alarm over an online impersonator. The former American Idol finalist says someone, pretending to be him, is trying to rip off his fans. Keith Urban FaceTimes Nicole Kidman from Boston concert for 10th anniversary – Urban explained to the Boston, Massachusetts, crowd on Saturday night that he had booked his tour dates early in the year before realizing that the Boston leg fell on June 25th — his 10th anniversary with actress Nicole Kidman (as many fans, who came prepared with celebratory signs, already knew). Urban said he offered to cancel the show (good save, Keith), but Kidman instead suggested that she come up to Boston so they could enjoy a date night before or after. But the cruel world did not want the two to spend their big day together. Kidman’s filming schedule got moved around, putting her in Australia to work on season two of “Top of the Lake.” So the two arranged for Urban to fly to Australia directly after the Boston show. But in the meantime, they made it work with the most modern of romantic gestures: FaceTiming onstage, time difference be darned. – via Today
