HDD - Album Sales Prediction - Nov 22-28

Yo, HDD. I’m really happy for you, Imma let you finish but Kanye had one of the best selling albums last week. One of the best debut weeks of the year.

Last week was Black Friday and this generally results in some some pretty impressive sales. With only 36.2% of the market reporting in, Kanye looks set to top the week somewhere in the 500K range. Nicki Minaj, despite going dressed as an extra from the latest re-make of the Wizard of Oz at the AMAs, will come in second. Justin is currently in third with his acoustic CD (that’s 3 CDs he’s released within the period of about a year. Make hay while the sun shines, kid), but it’s only available at certain retailers so it likely can’t sustain that position. Susan Boyle is the gift that keeps on giving to Simon (and Jackie from AGT is doing pretty good at number 8 for an EP with only 4 songs). Taylor Swift is the lone country act in the Top 5.

You know what is even lonelier? Idol fans because there isn’t a single solo Idol in the top 50. I can’t remember the last time that happened. Especially in November. That’s just sad. Kelly’s duet with Jason Aldean is on his album that is currently sitting at number 11. That album keeps on chugging along showing it has great legs. Daughtry and Adam Lambert also appear on the latest Now 36 which is 9th. This year is like a dead zone for Idol releases. Next year they are going to be releasing a CD every other week.

Finally, people can’t get enough of Glee and their Christmas album is at 28.

This is the daily’s number thread. Welcome to my beautiful dark, twisted thread.

LOL – you never disappoint me Kirsten :). Kanye may be a crazy person, but he moves a lot of units.

In a few weeks, I’ll be taking my daughter to the Justin Bieber concert. It’s painful just to think about it. I succumbed to major peer pressure from the other mommys. Clearly, I am weak and pathetic.

  • Joyed

Welcome to my beautiful dark, twisted thread.

Hehe, that about sums it up.

I am sad about the no idols in November thing, but it is a reminder of how tough the industry truly is. I have been interested in watching all of the experiments the music industry has been trying in the past few years (such as the eps) and will be curious to see where this trend goes as we head into 2011.

  • marmom07

Sorry for you SpenserJ. I’m blessed that my daughter did not get Bieber fever. But look at it this way you will earn points with your daughter and then can use that as leverage.

ETA yeah it’s a shame about no idols in the album list.

Oh man. That is rough. **Lights a candle for SpencerJ** That may even be worse than my Doodlebops experience. LOL

    Kirsten, you are hilarious!

No big Idol action to track this fall feels weird. I am still having a good time chart watching though, this Nicki Minaj thing has me fascinated. I had no idea if all the hype would translate to sales and now it looks like it did. And Kanye’s rise from the ashes routine (accompanied by piles o’ Kanye crazy) is pretty good stuff. Will he get back on the pop charts eventually? Good times.

Be ready to go to the Bieber movie as well! :) I took my 7 year old to see “Tangled “and they showed us a preview of “Never Say Never,” a concert movie/documentary of Bieber. She had never heard of him before and now she wants to see the movie. I have a feeling I will be attending a Bieber concert in the not so distant future.

  • Eileen99

    LOL Kirsten.

I’m still just seeing those AAA spins for Farmer’s Daughter at KRPI in San Diego (17 spins) – other than that, two new music hour spins in Chicago at WTMX & one at WKRQ in Cincinnati. They have a new music hour on Sundays, so I’m assuming that’s what the single spin is from.
That’s all so far. I’m not expecting any push from Jive until after the freeze, if it comes at all.

Farmer’s Daughter was added to the playlist of HAC station KLLY on yesterday, so maybe they will start playing it this week.

    tinawina:

This Nicki Minaj thing has me fascinated. I had no idea if all the hype would translate to sales and now it looks like it did.

I find her fascinating, too. Something about Nicki clicks for me. She falls somewhere between Lady Gaga and Katy Perry: a Barbie-meets-Bettie Page-meets-Lolita fantasy come to life, but pretty smart and not so out there that you can’t approach her music with a fun attitude. And she comes across really well in her interviews–very friendly and down-to-earth. I’m liking what I see from Nicki.

  • koshka

Be ready to go to the Bieber movie as well! I took my 7 year old to see “Tangled “and they showed us a preview of “Never Say Never,” a concert movie/documentary of Bieber.

LOL I saw that too… thankfully my daughter is still 6 and clueless. During the entire show.. I kept saying “no, no, no, no” My husband was laughing at me.

  • Q3

This Nicki Minaj thing has me fascinated. I had no idea if all the hype would translate to sales and now it looks like it did.

There is more to Nicki than hype — 3 hit solo singles, vocals featured on 16 singles, appearances in 18 music videos, some very important collaborations, etc. She did not just put out 1 single than an album and wear an unusual outfit or two.

I am just amazed she survived that pink “Barbie” graphic on her album cover and promotion. Love Nickie, hate that branding.

  • Trina

Hee Spencer as a mommy of a child currently Bieber obsessed you have my sympathy :) I actually don’t mind his music but the concerts are insanity. Bring earplugs. And better brace yourself for the upcoming 3D movie…

Kanye’s album is brilliant. I’ve been listening to it all week. He might be an ass but the guy is amazingly talented.

I can’t believe its the end of November and no Idols are in the Top 50. Iz sad.

  • tinawina

Yeah, I know, but there have been lots of people with multiple hit singles, big buzz and so-so album sales- especially newer artists. She also has a good amount of backlash going. So to me, I couldn’t tell if she was going to open like Bruno Mars or Rhianna or Taylor Swift. LOL. Now I feel like she really does have a lot of hardcore supporters and not just people who like her singles.

I like her as an emcee though I hate the minaj part of her name. I also think she can get too gimmiky with all the voices and stuff. But she has talent IMO, it will be fun to see where she goes with it.

but pretty smart and not so out there that you can’t approach her music with a fun attitude.

I like that about her too. She seems like she will try anything just for the hell of it.

  • LaRue

I am just amazed she survived that pink “Barbie” graphic on her album cover and promotion. Love Nickie, hate that branding.

I wish she’d drop the Barbie aspect of her persona. It’s been done to death. Gwen Stefani has the Harajuku dolls, Katy Perry is basically Barbie with a side of Betty Boop with good measure. Nicki should break out the Blythe dolls–that would be a little different! :-)

  • Valentin432

Yes, this is a bad situation for Idol. No presence at all on the charts because of the lack of sales from season 9 and Archie so far. This really makes the show goes in a downward spiral with no huge success stories since Daughtry and the departure of Simon.

The bad news is that none of the season 9 contestants has the kind of marketability to become the success story that idol needs to stay relevant.

This year is like a dead zone for Idol releases. Next year they are going to be releasing a CD every other week.

Yes, the 5 contestants who have the potential to sell the most units could all release albums next year.
Cook is due for his album but there is no information leaking. Kelly already recorded songs but there’s also absolutely no news and they will maybee wait for DYWS to make its impact on the charts before releasing a single.
Adam and his label seem to want to capitalize on his tour and the hype around him to release a second album the fastest possible and with IIHY being the last single of FYE, he won’t have any more presence on the US airwaves.
September is also probably the last single from the LTT era, so Daughtry should begin working on album n°3.
Carrie will release at least one maybee two more singles, so it’s not a given that she will release a record next year.

ETA: I also forgot to mention Jennifer Hudson who could also possibly release another album but no news either.

  • artemis

Sweet Serendipity has moved up to 29 on the All Access Mediabase HAC chart.

  • tinawina

ETA: I also forgot to mention Jennifer Hudson who could also possibly releasing another album but no news either.

I actually think Jordin has potential for a strong comeback too. She will probably drop next year as well.

  • girlygirl

Cook, Kelly, Adam and Kris are all likely going to release albums next year. Plus Casey and probably Danny. And of course the Top 2 finishers from S10. That’s a lot of ex-Idols in the marketplace. Anyone else?

  • girlygirl

nice spin increase for SS — +29 from yesterday

  • Kirsten

Carrie will release at least one maybee two more singles, so it’s not a given that she will release a record next year.

I will be stunned if Carrie doesn’t release an album next fall. She’s released them like clockwork since her first album every two years. There is no reason for her label to miss the big Q4 season in 2011. She’s a hitmaking machine.

So, I think Carrie, Cook and Kelly are locks to release. Kellie and Daughtry are due for another album. Jordin is in studio and Adam keeps saying he will release one next year. Kris is a possibility if he keeps his label. There will also be albums from the two new idols next year and a Christmas song from the X-Factor peeps.

I expect we’ll be seeing albums from a number of the more indie types like Taylor and Elliott as well.

  • Valentin432

So the calendar for idol releases could be aproximately:
January – April: Cook, Kelly, Casey
May – August: Adam, Jordin, Kris, Danny
September – December: Daughtry, JHud, Carrie

    ETA: I forgot to add
September – December: Any release from Season 10 contestants

  • anovich

According to mediabase WPLJ in NY gave AWM with a spin last week – which was a nice surprise. Could bode well for the song in the new year after the Christmas freeze. But I’m surprise they still haven’t given SS a spin – wonder when Lee will get a spin in the big markets.

  • tinawina

In addition to all the Idol alums releasing music there will also be a new crop of Xfactor people popping up staring in 2012. I don’t know if the industry will want 2 groups of these people coming at them every year. In theory it shouldn’t matter, but still. This should get interesting.

nice spin increase for SS — +29 from yesterday

Good news! Keep that going for a few days, Lee!

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com/ CindyM

Wasn’t that WPLJ spin for AWM from the Fox All-Access radio show? I remember Girlygirl saying it got a spin on that show and WPLJ plays the show.

According to someone who read the Hollywood Reporter article about Sony and the idol deals, the article specifically mentioned Kelly, Cook and Adam as early 2011 releases. Maybe they just were speaking of RCA releases tho.

  • Eileen99

Wasn’t that WPLJ spin for AWM from the Fox All-Access radio show?

Yes. Also, really nice spincrease for Lee. I think he’ll have an auto-add from WTMX in Chicago soon. Maybe he can build the big markets from there.

  • Valentin432

My guess is that it won’t really matter for established artists but for the newbies, it’s going to get even tougher.

When does the final list of Grammy nominees come out?

  • pineappletree

Wow a lot of Idols with new cds next year. Kellie, Jordin, Danny, Adam, Cook, Daughtry, and possibility Carrie. If Jive would only send out a press release for Kris, since he is the only Idol that requires one, so we could add him to the list. What do you think is Jives hold up? :)

    NIce update for Lee!

  • sr4mjc

When does the final list of Grammy nominees come out?

Tomorrow night at 10EST is the Grammy concert on tv, I guess then. Unless it leaks early.

If you are talking albums, there is no way Casey would release in Jan. There is no news even on a lead single, and in country you really want them out a good 3-4 months before the album. I could see Jan. for a single for him though. In his CMA interview he said early summer for an album release, but who knows?

  • jpfan

It is odd to see no Idol album in the Top 50 on HDD in November. What’s even worse is that when I posted the numbers, I completely forgot about Lee’s album.I was wondering if Carrie or Fantasia would break into the Top 50. ;)

If Lee gets the usual 60% drop, his album will do about 16K this week.

  • blissful

Ditto, but my kids and their friends (middle schoolers) think Beiber is lame so I dogged that bullet. Does he attract a younger demographic? But then maybe my girls are weird, they refused to upload the latest Taylor Swift album saying she sounds the same on every song.

No idols in the top 50….that’s sad. I think RCA missed the boat by not having Cook release an album to take advantage of the Idol void. Next year it will be crowded.

  • SpenserJ

That may even be worse than my Doodlebops experience. LOL

I sacrificed my mother on the altar of the Doodlebops. That’s what Grammies are for, right?

I’ll have my earplugs ready for lots of pre-teen screaming. Oh and thanks for the warning undercooked. Now I’ll be sure to skip Tangled in the theater. Cannot let the little Spens see that Bieber movie preview!

What’s even worse is that when I posted the numbers, I completely forgot about Lee’s album.I was wondering if Carrie or Fantasia would break into the Top 50.

I keep forgetting about it too. Although, admittedly, I’m not really interested in Lee. But, I don’t think I’d even know he had a CD out if I didn’t visit here. He doesn’t have much mainstream buzz.

Does he attract a younger demographic?

Yes. My daughter is 6. I have no clue how she and her friends became obsessed with him. And, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine taking a 6 year old to a concert. But apparently, last year in kindergarten a bunch of her friends saw the Jonas brothers or something, and she obviously didn’t. So, when this chatter about the Bieber concert came along, I was already in the hole.

My 10 year old son and his friends are seriously anti-Bieber. Last week, they made “Wanted Dead or Alive” posters with his face on them LOL.

Nicki Manaj is a little out there when it comes to her look, but I’m digging the music.

Casey won’t be releasing in January. Maybe…MAYBE a single. He has said in interviews he wants to take his time and get it right. He, personally, was looking at early summer. However, I read recently possibly an early 2011 release. Maybe there’s a compromise that he’ll release in March. But, I don’t think he’ll release before then.

As for Danny, what I’ve heard is he is collaborating and writing songs with great songwriters. I don’t think he’s been in the studio yet. I think he’ll be early summer at the earliest.

  • sr4mjc

I know the demographic of older fans gets a bad rap, but if I were an artist, I’d rather play to a bunch of cougars than 6 year olds. I know Bieber is only 16, but singing to kindergarteners must be really weird. Late 20s singers performing for 40yr olds doesn’t seem so bad. And they have bigger wallets.

  • blissful

But don’t forget their 40 y/o parents, at least the ones who forgot their earplugs :). But if he’s playing in arenas (at least that’s what his movie clip showed), he probably can’t even see the audience that well.

Now I’ll be sure to skip Tangled in the theater.

Just skip the previews, Tangled was awesome. Yeah, I was laughing the loudest among a sea of preschoolers (lots of “Mommy, I need to go potty”), but I was charmed by it.

So no firm news on Casey’s debut. He’s the one I’m most curious enough — I wonder how much of his sound will come through.

FWIW my daughter is 14 and she has friends from school as old as 17-18 that luurve them some Bieber so its not just 6 years olds lol.

Well kids only can spend their parents’ $. The cougars and older fans who stalk follow Idols seem to have no limits on the $ they spend. So I guess they’re “better” fans to have. ;)

  • SpenserJ

I promise to do a demographic study at the Bieber concert and report back :). I suspect that half the audience will be beleaguered moms like me.

I know MrRJ. I’me very ashamed of myself.

  • IndyMuse

Whoever said they had a 10 year old boy who can’t stand JB, you are not alone. My almost 10 year old son wants to buy up a bunch of singing Bieber dolls (yes, they exist, we saw an ad for them – yet another thing to avoid) and launch them out of our potato cannon. He hears about JB constantly in elementary school, so they are definitely part of the Bieber demographic. He’s inescapable at the stores, with posters and whatnot.

  • SpenserJ

That was me too Indy. We are a house divided! Clearly what I need is a potato cannon :).

See what happens when there are no Idols in the top 50? I hijack the thread with my Bieber drama. Sorry Kirsten!

I hope that Adam, Cook, Kris and Danny do not release close to each other. I don’t think I could stand another round of screaming over who got the most promotion at the expense of another or who is on TV with more national exposure. Or why one got Oprah or SNL or a News Eve gig on Fox or Leno and another did not.

Right, its not like Lee’s life or career is over with because he has low album sales. Who knows what will happen in the future. Regardless, I’m sure he will be able to continue to make music and that is probably most important to him.

Final add numbers for DYWS this week:
    17 country adds yesterday
    4 Canadian Country today (1st, 5th, 6th and 10th biggest markets)

I’m afraid MJ will pass out next year, if you can add to that a half way decent season 10 with new rivalries, this is a busy schedule.

Haven’t followed Lee very much but I hope for the best for him. He seems to work hard. Will he make mistakes? Sure. They all do. Hopefully, something will click and he’ll get on track. I remember how hard it was to watch people dancing on Adam’s grave when his first single did not do well. Was not a good feeling. Maybe Lee will eventually find his audience.

Overall the big surprise was Taylor Swift. Of course, the official number tomorrow might look a little different also.

Hmmmmm…I didn’t think I needed to say “With regard to the music industry and American Idol contestants–particularly winners–as it relates to sales, Lee DeWyze is a failure of the highest order.”

Lee’s obviously not a bigger failure than a drunk driver :-/

  • smeggingnuts

ok I see they pridicted Beiber 140-160k and now its 119k

  • jpfan

The regular version of the album got a major boost so let’s not worry too much about the Bieb. ;)

    32 19 JUSTIN BIEBER ISLAND/IDJMG 62,061 +146%
    MY WORLD 2.0

It’s pretty awful that Lee’s album fell off the Top 50 on HDD after one week though. I don’t remember that every happening before for an Idol winner or even runner up.

  • Eileen99

Thanksgiving week must be really hard to predict, they overestimated sales by a little bit for almost everyone across the board. It will be interesting to see how the actuals turn out tomorrow.

  • jpfan

I’m surprised to see the sales of Xmas albums go down. They usually get bigger as Xmas approaches. But tomorrow’s numbers may not be the same as HDDs. We’ll see.

  • toonces1966

I hope that Adam, Cook, Kris and Danny do not release close to each other. I don’t think I could stand another round of screaming over who got the most promotion at the expense of another or who is on TV with more national exposure. Or why one got Oprah or SNL or a News Eve gig on Fox or Leno and another did not.

Yikes, that could be a bloodbath, particularly for Adam and David Cook fans, who have always seemed to be at odds with each other–and of course Adam and David received the most promotion and sold much more than Kris and Danny. I’m aware that there are many fans of both Adam and David, but probably more who love one and can’t stand the other, just from what I’ve seen. Kris, idk–could raise some ire especially from Adam fans should his second album do really well. Of course there are many fans of both too.
I don’t see this being as much of a problem for Danny, being that he’s not in the pop/rock genre like the other three, but if his second album takes off there could be some hard feelings, especially if he were to cross over. The scary thing is, it does look like a very real possibility all of them could be releasing at the same time–and 3 of them are on RCA. Things could get…interesting. I do hope all their second albums do great, though. They’re all really talented guys and very different from each other. There really shouldn’t be any competition but of course there will be.

  • jpfan

There won’t be a bloodbath when the albums are released. Second albums drop more like “real” albums. They don’t get the crazy, OTP promo the debut albums get. Everyone will get a decent roll out and then the music will sink or swim on its own. Kind of refreshing actually.

For whatever reason, 19 is just way less invested in second albums.
Probably because they know that they almost never come near the sales of the first ones. Also hopefully by this time, folks realize it doesn’t make much sense to compare artists in different genres (just because they all appeared on Idol at one time).

  • toonces1966

Unless your name is Kelly, Carrie, or Daughtry.

  • Fullmoon

Yes, and since they been comparing his and Adam EP. Adam will get the raves and Beiber will get the sales!

  • jpfan

Even Carrie, Daughtry, Kelly can’t match their earlier sales.

But I’m looking forward to all the 2nd albums. It’s really a major challenge to get a successful follow up album. The ones that do are kind of rare. The main thing is to sell enough music to keep some career longevity.

  • smeggingnuts

It’s pretty awful that Lee’s album fell off the Top 50 on HDD after one week though. I don’t remember that every happening before for an Idol winner or even runner up.

So if Lee has the normal 60%-75% sales drop for second week sales it looks like he will come in with 9,750-15,600

This should still keep him in the Top 100 since Carrie come in at #71 with 12k

  • larc

    Fullmoon:
Adam will get the raves and Beiber will get the sales!

You’ve nailed it! Fetus is so lucky he doesn’t get the sales he deserves.

  • Tess

I hope Bieber gets tons of sales and the adoration of thousands of pre-pubescent girls. Every few years another teen heartthrob hits the airways..and then falls to earth in a glittery descent that is oftentimes much faster than the ascent.

I am sure that most of us gals can remember the guys or the groups that made our jr. high hearts swell. And I bet that 9 out of 10 of these were barely heard from after their first few golden years.

The good thing about these “teen idols” is that they do get kids interested in music and performance at a pretty young age and introduce each successive generation to music buying and concert going…without them the recording industry might be in a lot worse shape then it is. So hail to Beiber and Swift and thanks to the hits of last year: Miley and the Jonases. And I’m looking forward to the “newbies” that will pop up in the bright near future.

Could this be a bad sign for Lee?

DweezySignal NEWS: According to Chris Wrate, this weekend’s show in Orlando is the last ‘full band’ show of the year.

  • steph6449

As for Danny, what I’ve heard is he is collaborating and writing songs with great songwriters. I don’t think he’s been in the studio yet. I think he’ll be early summer at the earliest.

Reportedly Danny will be recording some in December. He’s said in interviews they want to have a couple of songs at least done by January, potentially with an eye to releasing one as a first single in 2011.

I don’t know what that means for an album release date. Maybe late spring if they really push? I have an impression they are aiming at the first half of the year more than a fall release but it’s strictly an impression.

If that’s the case, I think they will want Danny’s recording to be done early in 2011 so he’s free for touring during the spring/summer season. And if he had an album coming out during that timeframe, his touring could support the album sales, plus a late spring date would allow some benefit if he were able to appear on AI10…

DweezySignal NEWS: According to Chris Wrate, this weekend’s show in Orlando is the last ‘full band’ show of the year.

The shows that he’s doing are for HAC stations, so doing acoustic sets will probably fit with the venues that he’ll be playing in. This may be a way to save money, but it’s probably not a big issue, and not as glaring as performing to a backing track.

I wish that both Kris and Lee would have a full band at the Dolphin’s tailgate. That would seem like a better fit for that type of event.

  • vanjess38

Right, its not like Lee’s life or career is over with because he has low album sales. Who knows what will happen in the future. Regardless, I’m sure he will be able to continue to make music and that is probably most important to him.

    Exactly!

  • SashaB

DeWyze fell out of the HDD Top 50 his second week?? Ouch. And he had Black Friday?? Double ouch.

Last year, Allison Iraheta opened w/32K at #35. Her second week,

Allison Iraheta “Just Like You” 14K (-55%) Total: 46K Digital: 1K (-80%) Digital Total: 9K

Wonder if DeWyze’s album sales will track like Allison’s did?

  • Eileen99

DweezySignal NEWS: According to Chris Wrate, this weekend’s show in Orlando is the last ‘full band’ show of the year.

The HAC shows are mostly acoustic, yes, but it also probably rules out any high-profile New Years Eve shows, or more late-night or even daytime show appearances.

Do we know if he already taped the Disney Xmas parade appearance? That should be full band, but I haven’t really been paying attention to his appearances.

  • tripp_ncwy

Saw on twitter that most of his followers believe he will tape it Saturday while in Orlando for the Blue Martini show.

DweezySignal NEWS: According to Chris Wrate, this weekend’s show in Orlando is the last ‘full band’ show of the year.

The full band has only played a few shows at all outside of the television appaarances. 90% of the time it’s just Lee and Lincoln the keyboardist.

  • tinawina

DeWyze fell out of the HDD Top 50 his second week?? Ouch. And he had Black Friday?? Double ouch.

Well, even if he had a soft second week drop due to Black Friday, he still sold about 19K this week. That’s not enough for the Top 50. So I guess we should have seen it coming.

It’s all on the song now. At least its moving in the right direction!

Yeah, I like second albums. Alum get more time and often more creative input. So now we see what’s really what. Time to put up or shut up. Fun times.

Could this be a bad sign for Lee?

DweezySignal NEWS: According to Chris Wrate, this weekend’s show in Orlando is the last ‘full band’ show of the year.

Its the nature of the shows he’s playing. Most have “Acoustic” in the title, so guitar and piano are going to be the only band needed.

  • Q3

I really don’t think that if Cook, Adam, Kris, Daughtry and Danny all release albums around the same time it will matter that much.

I want them all to be successful. And I believe that a successful Idol brand is good for everyone from the show.

In Adam’s case, can’t see that any of these or the other Idols has much to do with Adam’s opportunities or success he really is in his own market position for an Idol alum. Danny is also in his own market space for an Idol alum.

Well, even if he had a soft second week drop due to Black Friday, he still sold about 19K this week. That’s not enough for the Top 50. So I guess we should have seen it coming.

Down 50% in week 2 would be a good week for Lee. Kris was on the same schedule last year and his sales dropped 59% in week 2. If Lee matches Kris he will be at 16K for week 2.

  • Truthiness

Dayum, for Lee’s second week of sales. As said, expected, but still painful.

And it looks like this week is not off to a good start — LIU album is down to #104 on iTunes now. And SS is still in the 500′s.

    Painful is the right word.

  • LK10

Biebs EP did much worse than expected. Wonder why.

I went to see “Tangled” tonight and had to suffer through a preview of the upcoming Biebs movie. They are treating him like he is Michael Jackson or something. Gag me.

  • cochem

Good Luck to Crystal on sales BUT with the Dec 14 drop date FANS will most likely miss out on the building sales charts at HDD…they take a LONG break over the Christmas/New Year holiday…Numbers are still released but you won’t get to watch it..I am a Taylor Hicks fan and NEVER saw him on HDD…his album came out 12/12/06…He was only on the top 50 for 4 weeks…#2 298,000, #15 202,000, #36 38,000,
#47 18,900… for anyone interested here is the archives for HDD sales…it goes all the way back to 2000… http://hitsdailydouble.com/search/se_charts.cgi

  • Chicagolaw

Wasn’t sure where to ask this (there’s no Adam concert thread tonight), but does anyone have any idea when AO is going to have more of the Acoustic Live EPs for sale? I took my time getting over to the site and now they are sold out. I guess I will be out of luck in terms of having the CD on the Dec. 6th drop date.

  • Kirsten

Biebs EP did much worse than expected. Wonder why.

HDD was probably shooting in the dark on that one. It was released as a Walmart exclusive on Friday. They wouldn’t have even had One day sales information on which to base their Friday estimate (and were there even pre-orders?).

Considering the data that was available, they did pretty good. We’ll see how he holds up when he gets a full week of sales.

  • karenc

Ok, that doesn’t look good for Lee. I wonder where he’ll be on the Billboard charts.

  • springboard

All Idol albums see at least a 60% drop the second week, so Lee has never been expected more than 16K, and it doesn’t necessarily look worse for him than last week.

In addition, it is likely that the drop will be more than 60% because he hasn’t got any significant radio presence yet.

It’s about keeping it in perspective. Calling a low-performing CD a ‘failure of the highest order’ is awfully strong. Is it disappointing and discouraging? Sure. Even labeling it a general failure isn’t so bad. But I think all of us tend to label things so quickly without realizing that in doing so, we undermine the strength behind using certain words.

It’s not what you say, but how you say it. Didn’t mean to over-analyze. I got what you were saying–just thought it was much too strong for the context.
