With 56.52% of reports in, rapper Rick Ross is headed to number 1. HDD estimates sales in the 175K range and this will be his fifth number one album.
Number 2 will be Pharrell Williams who seems to have been absolutely everywhere this year. He was featured in Daft Punk’s Grammy winning “Get Lucky” and Robin Thicke’s summer chart topper “Blurred Lines”. He was nominated for an Oscar for “Happy” which is getting people to dance all over the country as it tops charts today. Behind the scenes, he is producing, writing and probably creating a better mouse trap. His hat became an internet meme. So…some people are kind of surprised that he’s opening with a mere 100K. I’m kind of surprised myself.
“Frozen” won an Oscar and continues to sell well at 3rd. It’s not that it’s selling any less – there were just a couple of new albums selling more this week. They will be gone next week and “Frozen” will still be here. Lea Michele from Glee is destined for a fourth place debut. That’s better than any of the other Glee alumni, but that’s not saying much as the others barely made a ripple. Smart of her to start this portion of her career as Glee continues to circle the drain. Country’s Elie Young Band is debuting in 5th, Beck is not a loser and he’s in 6th, Eric Church is 7th, Queen B is 8th, Now 49 (featuring 1D and Simone Battle) is 9th and Lorde is holding at 10th.
One Direction is the sole reality singing competitor on our chart this week. Midnight Memories is 33rd. David Cook co-wrote David Nail’s current single and his album is at 12th.
