HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Mar 23-29

With 80.94% of reports in, there isn’t much left to report today. Kendrick Lamar is headed for his second week at the top of the chart by a comfortable margin. The Empire Cast continues to lurk in second which is impressive since their show was not on last week. The album may be supporting itself and is getting airplay (which doesn’t happen often for these music themed shows). Granted, this is a bit of a dull week for the charts.

The top debut of the week so far is Action Bronson. Who? He is a combo rapper-chef from Flushing. IDK. He is currently battling the ever-popular (but not so popular this time) Kidz Bop. This is the 28th installment from the bopping kids with the often bizarre word edits (they wonder if “Your mouth will still remember the look of my love” (mouths see?), “Fill my cup, put some water in it” (couldn’t they have at least gone for something a little stiffer, like a cola? Needless to say, they skip the bit about getting freaky, sing “hot yah!”, and Michelle Pfieffer is in conjunction with White Gold, not White Gold herself) Blank Space gets a lot of edits including “some others” instead of “ex-lovers”. For some reason, One Republic’s “broken bone” gets changed to “broken heart”…Tedder didn’t mean THAT kind of bone. Sheesh). Anwyay, they are expected to sell in the 40K range which is a pretty big drop from their 27th album which opened in January with 74K. I wonder what happened. Still, it will be their 21st top ten debut (which they’ve only missed once since 2005). The album features songs by One Direction and Ella Henderson.

Taylor is holding steady at 5, Sam Smith surges back into the top 10 (as does his countryman Ed at 8), Earl Sweatshirt (with an album name that Kidz Bop would have to edit to “I don’t like sticks, Let us go outside”) is currently debuting at 7th (he is also a rapper, but his ability to cook is unknown). Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack holding steady at 9th and James Bay (singer-songwriter) rounds out the top 10.

Kelly Clarkson leads the charge for reality singing competitors at 27th, One Direction is at 38 (seeing an uptick in sales due to getting so much news this week?) and Carrie Underwood is 48th. One Direction also appears on Now 53 which is now 15th. Maroon 5 represents the judges at 16th.
