HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Mar 10-16

With 71.44% of reports in, Frozen prepares to regain the top of the charts. “Frozen” has rock steady legs that cause it to continue to sell 80-90K (sometimes a little more) each week for weeks on end. Last week, Majesty sang the main single from the Soundtrack “Let it Go” on Idol (and it almost got her eliminated – so nobody should sing that song except Adele Dazeem).

The number one debut album of the week will be Luke Bryan’s latest chapter of his “Spring Break” releases. Edition 5 opened with 150K sales while this one is expected to open with about 70K. It isn’t that Luke has suddenly become less popular (he hasn’t), but because this is only an EP and is being released only electronically this week. If he’s releasing a physical version, expect this sucker to stick around the top 10 for a few more weeks.

Last week’s number 2, and also riding on a Soundtrack single, is Pharell Williams “G I R L” at number 3. Aloe Blacc who rose to fame despite all efforts by Avicii is debuting in 4th. Rick Ross, last week’s top album seller, is 5th this week while fellow rapper Young Money debuts just below in 6th. Now 49 (featuring 1D and Simone Battle) rises to 7th. Country artist Sara Evans is the second country artist debuting in the top 10 (8th) while rockers 311 are 9th. Kiwi Lorde rounds out the top 10.

The only reality singing show contestants in the top 50 are One Direction with their “Midnight Memories” sliding to 42nd. Sounds like it’s time for a new single, boys. David Cook co-wrote a track on David Nail’s album at 37th and Lea Michele plummets in sales from 4th last week to 29th. That happens when you don’t have a successful single and your fans rush out and by the album the first week.
