HDD – Album Sales Prediction : June 15-21

With 82.03% of reports in, Adam Lambert has a firm hold of the number 2 spot on the chart. Adam Lambert rose to fame on the 8th Season of American Idol where he finished as the runner-up. This his third studio album to debut in the top 3 (his previous album debuted at the top of the BB200 chart and his debut album at third) and his first album for his new label. The album was produced by Max Martin and Shellback who also wrote some of the songs (Adam was a co-writer for most of the songs on this album). Last week, HDD estimated 35-40K in sales with the same range for the combined. He’s at 38K in sales already, so he may be able to top 40K with combined. He’ll get number 3 on the BB200.

The number one spot is owned by James Taylor. “Before This” will be his first number one album in his 45 year old career. Taylor’s highest ranking previous album was “Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon” which was held out of the top spot for four weeks by Carole King’s mega-successful album, “Tapestry” (he was Alydar to King’s Affirmed). He has previously achieved 7 top 5 albums and 11 top 10.

Hilary Duff is currently in the number 3 spot. You may recall that Hilary first rose to fame as one of the Disney stars. Her show Lizzy McGuire was a sensation back in the day and spawned an album and a concert tour (sound familiar?). Contract demands by Hilary became too steep for Disney and they cancelled the show. No worries, they soon had a new show called Hannah Montana that filled the gap and was quite popular in its own right.

Taylor Swift is powerful enough to make Apple change its mind (when all the complaining and gnashing of teeth by major and independent labels for months had seemingly achieved nothing) and its no surprise that she will have the number 2 album on the combined chart. She’s currently at 4th in sales followed by Fun’s lead singer Nate Ruess debuting his solo effort at 5th. Mumford and Sons continues to chug along at 6th while the Zac Brown Band is also a steady eddy at 7th. Now Country 8 is 8th and Ed Sheeran is 9th. This week marks the one year anniversary of his “X” album and it should be in the top 5. That hasn’t happened since his country-mate Adele achieved the same longevity milestone with “21” three years ago (when is her next album coming out, anyway?). Third Eye Blind rounds out the top 10.

Now 54 features Tori Kelly (who has an album out this week), Kelly Clarkson and One Direction who is also featured on No2 53. The albums are at 19th and 47th respectively. Maroon 5 featuring Voice judge Adam Levine is 35th.
