HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Feb 16-22

With 67.20% of reports in, Alt-Rockers Imagine Dragons are looking to top the sales chart. They should open with 150-160K in sales which is up from their debut release “Night Vision” which stared with 83K for second on the chart. “Night Vision” put them on the map (remember when it seemed like every second song you heard during the auditions was “Radioactive”?) and has stayed on the BB200 for the past 128 weeks (it’s currently at 22 on the building chart) selling 2.4M. Will this be their first chart topper? Depends. Drake surprise dropped an album last week shutting out the “Fifty Shades of Grey” Soundtrack and he won’t be far behind in sales. His TEAs/SEAs put him in a dead heat with Imagine Dragons for the number one slot on the combined BB200 chart. He is predicted to do 125-135K in sales and combined 170-180K.

Last week’s presumed number one (pipped at the post during the clubhouse turn by Drake) will be number 3 followed by Taylor Swift (who has no plans to leave the top 10 for quite some time). Sam Smith (also a perma-member of the top 10 for a while at least) is 5th followed by Now 53 (featuring X-Factorers One Direction). Ed failed in his bid to hit #1 on the Hot 100 last week (and that may have been the last chance for “Thinking Out Loud”), but he continues to move those units as did Meghan Trainor (7th and 8th respectively). Grammy Nominees are 9th and Grammy nominee Hozier is 10. Voice judge Adam Levine’s band Maroon 5 is 11th with “V”.

Representing the reality show competitors are Carrie Underwood at 29th and One Direction at 31st. Now 52 at 40th features X-Factors winners Alex and Sierra.
