HDD – Album Sales Prediction : May 30-June 5

If last week was all about how many units Gaga could sell, this week is all about how far Gaga will fall. Gaga looks to be on track to have the record for the lowest selling week following a million+ selling week. Of course, her stans would say that you have to take into account the Amazon 99cent special last week while last week they were arguing it was irrelevant. The Idolsphere is not the only place where numbers are spun.

Let’s get some historical perspective here. The fine folks at Pulse have posted the following chart of post 1M sale weeks (2m and Jay D83):

1 No Strings Attached N Sync 811, 298
2 Eminem Show Eminem 808, 708
3 Marshall Mathers Eminem 793, 713
4 The Massacre 50 Cent 770, 887
5 Black And Blue Backstreet Boys 689, 578
6 Millennium Backstreet Boys 621, 000
7 Oops I Did It Again Britney Spears 612, 420
8 Double Live Garth Brooks 549, 000
9 The Bodyguard Soundtrack 520, 000
10 Confessions Usher 485, 965
11 Celebrity N Sync 459, 742
12 Beatles 1 Beatles 451, 253
13 Feels Like Home Norah Jones 395, 480
14 Chocolate Starfish Limp Bizkit 392, 540
15 Speak Now Taylor Swift 319, 701
16 Tha Carter III Lil Wayne 308, 505

Gaga Currently predicted to sell 180-195k

With 54.02% of the market reporting, there are no Idols in the top 50. Brad Paisley’s latest album features a duet with Carrie Underwood which is racing up the charts and helping the album come in at 4th. Jason Aldean’s album also contains a very successful duet with Kelly Clarkson giving the album the legs of a marathon runner as it comes in 5th. And of course, there are the judges. Why do we watch but for the judges? Why indeed. JLo has the 9th best selling album and Blake Shelton from The Voice has the 37th. He is next album is coming out in July so that’s good timing for him.

Lady Gaga still leads the chart despite her dramatic tumble and waiting in the wings to snatch number 1 back next week is Adele at two. Now 38 continues to sell well. iTunes people! Death Cab for Cutie has the top debut of the week at 6th followed by Eddie Vedder’s “Ukulele Songs” (that sounds like a change of pace). Glee and Lemonade Mouth show that TV shows can move music at 8 and 10 respectively.
