With 54.02% in, there are 4 Idols and 2 UK XFers in the top 50.

Adele has returned to rule the top of the chart. Alan Jackson is nipping at her heels as the top debut, but Country albums don’t typically do as well as Adele on the second day. As a blast from the past, the Beach Boys are in third. This will be their 29th (!) studio album and is expected to be their highest debut since 1974.

From a bunch of older youngsters to bunch of young youngsters (what’s the over-under on 1D lasting as long as the Beach Boys?), XF’s One Direction is in 4th. Right behind them, is Idol’s Carrie Underwood showing some legs. Now 42 features songs from Idol’s Kelly Clarkson and XF’s 1D. Big K.R.I.T is my “who?” of the week at 7th (wiki tells me that he is a hip-hop artist – King Remembered in Time. Does he think he is the King, is he a monarchist, is it an allusion to the Frazier/Ali fight, is it a tribute to MLK? More research is required). Congrats KRIT! Luke Bryan continues to sell quietly in 8th. That album must be racking up some impressive numbers. Currency makes the 4th debut in the top 10 and Mayer rounds out the top 10 in his 3rd week.

Carrie is the top selling solo Idol of the week. Adam comes in second at 31st, followed by Kelly at 35th (she is also on Now 42 and Jason Aldean’s album at 18th) and Haley Reinhart at 41st. Rebecca Fergusen is the other contestant from XF and she is at 48th. Glee’s latest album is 29th.

Well Adam said that he had an international deal, and the others (Kris Allen) had a domestic one, that’s why he was pushed out to those markets.

To be honest, I think he was just trying to be diplomatic in that one interview. What else was he supposed to say at a question like “Hey, you’re so successful but why do we not hear anything from the guy who won over you?” without coming like a douche?

Adam got promoted internationally quite a long time after he signed the deal, presumably because the label did some market research (or based on their own experience) and came to the conclusion that he and his music would get accepted overseas. If their research/experience indicated that others (Kris Allen) would get accepted there, they would also “get international deals”. I doubt that the Adam-gets-international-deal and Kris-gets-domestic-deal was a fact at the moment of signing before one note of their CDs was recorded or their general appeal was taken notice of.

I’m still looking forward to hearing your thoughts on which Idol has a current sounding Pop song on their current album, in your opinion?

I thought The Vision of Love was pure pop gold? Many said so. I wondered why it wasn’t pushed to CHR.

Where does it show that Adam is selling twice as much internationally than in the U.S

I must have got lost, who claims that?

I think it’s a weird version of a discussion we had a few days ago where people were looking at US vs international sales of fye, which showed that he (may have) sold more internationally. I’m not sure how that translates into he’s selling twice as much internationally as domestically now. That’s really weird.

However, he does do well internationally. From twitter (no source, sorry) “KC sold 5,771 TOTAL for all the weeks since she’s been on the Japanese chart since October. Adam sold 7,705 in ONE week.” Not that 7705 is a great number, but it’s a cool fact. btw I like Kelly, and in no way am I insulting her. Adam should hope to sell the way she does. She’s incredibly successful, bless her <3

Nothing that RCA does makes any sense.  They are notorious for picking the absolute worst singles off of an album and when they can cash in on popularity from Idol, they don’t.  I have no faith in them to “know” what fits into a market today.
