Last Saturday night (Feb 18) Haley Reinhart, Slash and Myles Kennedy performed an acoustic version of the Rolling Stones’ classic “Wild Horses” for the Keep Memory Alive “Power of Love” benefit gala to celebrate Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday.

Highlights from this very special gala aired on ABC today, and included the trio’s moving performance. Watch it below.  Gorgeous lead vocals from Haley.  Watch it below.

     She sounded great, as usual!
And I think I might be in love with her hair.

  • Anonymous

Look at every single one of her duets

…it’s a wonder people aren’t knocking down her door to add the Reinhart spice to their tune…Haley makes you sound better…bottom line.

Miles Kennedy is the second best rcok singer now, just after Glenn hughes. Always a pleasure listening him!!

Never was a Haley fan, but good to see her in action.

  • Anonymous

Me, too.  I haven’t seen her in a long time and she looks just sensational!  Good duet, too!

no way Haley makes Miles sounds better…almost a joke!

    She’s a stah!

Duets compliment each other, Myles made Haley sound better too.

no way Haley makes Miles sounds better…almost a joke!
    -Leandro,

Ooops didn’t mean to press “like”…. meant to press ‘reply’ so strike that.

Good thing we got to hear Myles and Slash’s opinion too…I wonder who’s is more valid…theirs or yours….. :/

  • Mirandy

Haley was the star of that performance.

    Very nice job.

So glad its up. I DVRd bit it didn’t work–maybe due to the crazy wind??? Weird.
Anyway–love this performance! Haley –you are golden!

  • sagi

Haley really does have a unique quality to her voice and it sounds very beautiful. She sings effortlessly, I really hope she gets recognized and becomes a success.

  • Anonymous

That was very nice love Miles’s voice Haley looks great and held her own.

  • Anonymous

He’s right too, she sounds amazing here and her skill as a vocalist cannot be argued. Slash has great taste in voices. Now I can get a kick out of him loving two of my favorite Idol contestants.

  • http://twitter.com/DaniReinhart Dani Reinhart

The performance was absolutely breathtaking. Her voice was soft and tender and also powerful in all the right parts. It’s awesome how she got to be with all these A-listers, and she fit right in. Her voice is amazing. She’s going to blow up fast.

  • Anonymous

This shows all the young ‘belters’ out there the ‘power’ of ‘subtle and soft’…she caresses some of the notes…with a crystal clear vocal….

I dreamed it would be good, but when the reality is better than the dream?…. :)

  • Anonymous

It was a flawless performance. This can only add to her credibility as a vocalist and a great way to introduce her outside the AI world while waiting for her new music…any second now!

  • superfudge

To be honest I just skipped to Myles Kennedy’s parts. That guy’s voice is incredibly insane. Been an Alter Bridge fan for awhile.

  • http://twitter.com/HaleysShindig HaleysShindig

You missed out on some great parts, but Que Sera, Sera.

  • Pat S

She’s a fantastic singer. Myles is as well. Slash is always great. The entire performance was wonderful.

  • Miss Chaos

That was really good, Haley is so good, I loved the performance, so soft, the 3 of them were so together.  Nice on my HD TV!

  • Incipit

EmyR, I could quote your whole entire post, but we posted close enough, so I won’t. I’ve become hesitant to click on “Wild Horses” by anyone, after what Subo did to it – but this was an excellent performance, by everyone involved.

I’ve noticed that Haley can hold her own very nicely – ever since that video from New Orleans, with Irvin Mayfield.

Also, Yes to the fact that Slash loves two of your favorite Idol contestants. They are two of mine as well.

  • Anonymous

Haley sounded excellent. She sang the higher harmony parts and was the star of that performance IMHO

  • halo9125

But why? One doesn’t need to be a fan to recognize talent.

  • Anonymous

Don’t forget with Tony Bennett as well, where he was over the top complimentary about Haley as a young singer

  • http://twitter.com/all_sabrina Sabrina Brown

Thanks for getting the clip Haley is love!

  • Incipit

You are absolutely right, Xentusk, that’s another example. Really interested to hear this album of hers.

    Nice job Haley!

  • buzzenator

Haley absolutely slayed it with Slash & Myles…she hit it out of the park!

  • Anonymous

Great to hear this side of Myles Kennedy. It shows off his versatility as an artist. He can belt a song better than Axl could, and sound so tender.

  • Ringo

I like how Haley still appears to be humbled to be doing this.  She looks a little nervous at first, like a partycrasher not realizing that she belongs.  Then she gets in the groove and just sails.  I wonder if she realizes just how good she sounds.

  • randomjoe

    Nice.   3 cool cats jammin’.
Haley got to sing Happy Birthday to Ali the next day.   http://twitvid.com/3QD8C

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/John-Williams/100000265789468 John Williams

She had good reason to be humbled and a little nervous.   She was the only performer on stage younger than 30.  That was quite an array of talent to be surrounded by when making your professional national TV debut.  Haley did amazing and fit right in.

  • http://twitter.com/swansteel swansteel

Being on the west coast, I had to wait longer than most of the country to see the show (okay, I cheated and watched the Wild Horses video on Twitter; hey, can ya blame me?).  What I liked about seeing the actual show on TV was how naturally Haley fit in with all the stars around her.  Her set with Slash and Myles Kennedy was, for me, the definite highlight of the entire shebang.  I’m not familiar with Myles Kennedy, but he has a great voice and Haley more than held her own with him.  Toward the latter part of the song I was actually getting choked up with the emotion of it all.  Haley is a special talent, well deserving of sharing the stage with two legends, and destined for great things in the years ahead.

  • Anonymous

Wow … interesting to compare where Haley is now with her idol audition that I completely didn’t notice at the time. She’s come so far in just over a year! Her vocal skills and artistic sensibility are simply amazing as evidenced here.

  • Anonymous

Haley did an amazing job, and she is just full of energy, dancing and having a good time there at the end of the show … so cute :)

The point with Haley is that even if she still young, looks like she really knows very well what she can do with her voice and the style she want and can use to channel the best all the effects coming from her instrument ….. and of course we Love it ! ;)

Haley has such control over her wide range – beautiful.

I like how we got to hear them each sing a verse – my favorite female & male singer together on stage!!  AND SLASH TOO!!  wow, feel like I’ve died & gone to heaven!  I have not heard Myles sing a duet with a girl before, and their harmonizing was just sublime.  If he & Haley were to “lay down some tracks” I would be first in line to buy them!!

  • iani

“Slash tweeted that Haley was an amazing vocalist. He is right”

She is an exceptional singer, just in her own way and style, her performance at the gala in that great company has proved that. Maybe her music/style now is not what it means “successful and sell a lot”, but like other exceptional singers she can make money because of  her talent, being invited to sing for special group of people and different events. I’m thinking about Regina Spektor, Joss Stone, even Estelle and Corinne Bailey Rae, I don’t think they sell lots of albums and singles(at least in US), but I’m pretty sure they are pretty busy singing and being booked for some special events. Hope she proves me wrong with her new album and she will have a well known successful career.

  • Anonymous

A GREAT sign of things to come for Haley…

  • Anonymous

Another thing about this performance is that it just goes to show how seamlessly Haley fits into a group setting. She already sounds and looks like a true professional and her collaborations will be awesome as she gets more connections…

  • Anonymous

Haley sounds great; one of my favorites from AI.  Has such a unique quality in her singing, love all the nuances in her voice.

I am so looking forward to her album.

  • Anonymous

Haley’s voice is utterly beautiful.  Just love her tone.  She is so unique and dose not sound like anyone else.  If talent means anything she should go far.

  • Anonymous

This was really good! Myles & Haley harmonized well together and Haley certainly more than held her own with all the big guns. She has such a natural presence on stage and her voice is just so incredibly unique. She did an absolutely fantastic job as I knew she would. And, I could listen to Myles voice endlessly….it is smooth as silk.

But what really caught me by surprised was how much I liked the arrangement (it didn’t at all appeal to me from what little I heard from the practice session posted last week).

  • Anonymous

VERY nice! Haley is both a gifted and skilled vocalist. I am really looking forward to her debut single and album!

  • Anonymous

Miles Kennedy is the second best rock singer nowadays, just after Glenn Hughes. Always a pleasure listening him!

Have you checked out Black Country Communion, the supergroup that Glenn formed recently with Joe Bonamassa and Jason Bonham? (You should recognize Jason’s last name)

I actually found out about BCC accidentally while watching some rock festival on VH1 Classics a month or 2 ago, and it was only b/c I love Joe B. that they really caught my eye. I was shocked that Joe was playing with a group at all (I thought he only performed solo…and I’ve been going to almost all his concerts in this area for almost 10 years). I’m not a fan of every single song from BCC but there is some good stuff for the blues rock lovers.

To think I was annoyed when she was picked for the Top 24 last year. Following week she had me voting for her after performing “Fallin’”. Next week she had me downloading her performances off of Itunes. Now almost a year later, she has me buying her singles and albums…and I don’t regret it one bit.
Haley is the most talented vocalist I’ve ever seen come off Idol.

  • cwm

That was cool. Great performance from all of them, and a terrific opportunity for Haley. I love her voice and her style. Looking forward to hearing her new music. And wow, her hair looked amazing!

    I love you Miss Reinhart

    YUM…YUM… UMMM…UMMM…. SOOOO GOOD !!! … SOOOO GOOD !!!

Gorgeous HAYLEY … beautiful voice !!!
Didn’t know MYLES before … his fan NOW.  Great artist !!!
Warship SLASH long before I know Hayley.  Great guy !!!

Hayley did an amazing job with the two famous artists.
Way to go. Can’t wait to hear her new music.

  • Emmy

Gorgeous – every part of it.

  • fuzzywuzzy

What a great performance!  I love Haley’s distinctive, smokey voice and singing style.  Looking forward to her new music.

  • Anonymous

Haley was the only one last year that I was even remotely interested in following after the show. She does have this quality in her tone that is unique and her phrasing is also quite distinctive. I think she’s one of those singers you either really take to or you don’t. Which is good. When she starts to sing, I know exactly who it is.

I honestly will be pretty surprised if radio takes to her. I suppose she could come out with some pop stuff and try and capture the market that way, but I’d prefer her staying in the jazzy, bluesy area that IMHO fits her to a tee and really lets her shine. Be true to yourself, Haley. Look what happened to Adele.

  • Ringo

I was looking through some of the articles from last year about the AI performances, specifically the critiques of Michael Orland and Debra Byrd — the vocal coaches.  I recalled something about Haley tending to sing sweetly (now I think the word used was “romatically”).  Some wonderful commentary from both.  I ran across this from Michael Orland on her Top 13 performance of Blue

I loved her; the judges were not so much. I think it’s really hard to do that with your voice, just to switch between that falsetto voice and your chest voice like that. That’s such a talent; not everybody can do that. For her to sing it so perfectly every time, I thought she was great. I felt bad that the judges did not appreciate it as much. Now that they’re getting coached from the record execs, and [Interscope-Geffen-A&M chairman] Jimmy Iovine’s really is in on it, and really giving them feedback — like, hey, we’re making you guys a record right now — I would think that they think there’s a market for [Haley’s performance].  I remember my favorite thing, we did the sing-for-your-life performance after Hollywood week and after Vegas, and she did “Lady Marmalade” with a bass player. I just love her.

    http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/03/10/american-idol-top-13-coaches-view/

How cool must she have sounded on Lady M. and why have I not ever seen that on Youtube?

  • http://iasi.inoras.ro/ Thomas Gamble

I enjoyed reading your nice blog. I see you offer priceless info. Will definitely come back for more of this.

  • Anonymous

…but I’d prefer her staying in the jazzy, bluesy area that IMHO fits her to a tee and really lets her shine. Be true to yourself, Haley.

But, she is being true to herself….Beatles and Rock and Roll is part of what makes Haley, she mentions rock just as much if not more than Jazz, R&B, and soul.  She Credits the Beatles above all else save her parents.

We who adore “Rock Haley” have been patient and enjoyed Haley’s d’alliance with Jazz.

We have been patient….let us have this for a couple of days before you implore her back to jazz for goodness sakes :P LOL

Casey is one of the most supportive idols on twitter. Not only for his best buddy Haley–but for so many other idols (past and present) as well as other artists.

Ringo–I remember that article about Haley’s Blue performance too! I was floored when the judges seemed so unimpressed.

Haley has so much texture to her voice and so much nuance in her performances–really extraordinary for her young age. You can tell that she has been singing professionally since she was a kid. She’s got it down!

  • Anonymous

That performance was simply stunning! All three did a terrific job, and I loved every minute of it. Haley’s voice is an absolute treasure.

I love that she continues to be a wonderful duet partner. I hope there are more star collabs in her future. I’d definitely buy a duets album if she were to release one at some point down the line.

  • http://twitter.com/HaleysShindig HaleysShindig

A friend of Haley’s family caught video of her parents reaction to her performance. Click on it only if you’re ready to tear up:)
BTW, they were on a gig and this was taken between sets. Awesome coffee break if you ask me.

Watched the whole 2 hour Ali BD celebration…it was so well done. The mix of boxers and boxing clips, musical artists and editing was excellent. Sugar Ray Leonard had a little tongue twisting struggles in introducing Slash, Myles & Haley. Their “Wild Horses” performance was so intriguing, it makes you want to hear more from these three. Props to Slash & Myles for including a relatively unknown Haley Reinhart…but it shows how other professional artists perceive her. As Beyonce said…she’s incredible! She definitely has a huge upside to her career.

Haley’s individuality, creativity, great abilities/talent, sells herself without even trying, effortlessly the way she hits the notes. She’s not new to the business, but we are just now finding out about her. She’s new to us. Her ability to sing all types of music, all genres, so effortlessly going from solos to duets with various types of artists. She’s a rare find. We will hear much much more from this very talented artist. I’m glad that we have Idol to discover people like her and David Cook.

  • Anonymous

Ringo – Lizbeth, I have a theory that the reason that the judges acted so unimpressed was because they were told to because Blue placed Haley as a top country contender (not sweet little Lauren), and so, they kept harping on her to choose a genre, and they were hoping against hope that she wouldn’t pick country because it would’ve been bye-bye Lauren.

  • http://twitter.com/fover Fred Overholt

I agree, if you were in a room with some people who had never seen Haley perform, and you showed them her Idol audition alongside her Wild Horses performance, I’d bet they wouldn’t get the connection.

  • http://twitter.com/AdamsArmyGirl Linda Vastardis

I watched the full 2 hour program last night at 10 PM on ESPN and it was really terrific but I’ve been an avid fan of Ali since his very first fight vs. Sonny Liston back in 1964; yeah, I go that far back!

I have to say that the performance of Wild Horses was one of the musical highlights of the entire evening.  Haley was just stunning in her vocals … she is definitely going to go far as long as she is handled/promoted/marketed properly.  She has all the makings of a real star because she’s got the vocal chops, stage presence, confidence and charm.

  • Ringo

me4:  I really think only Randy had the issue with Haley’s Blue — Stephen like everything she did and J.Lo was mostly positive until Haley started to threaten her boys.  Ultimately, giving Randy the benefit of the doubt, I think that he was doing what a lot of people do, even here:  try to put Haley in a box, categorizing her as a certain type of singer.  Is she Adele?  Is she Amy W.?  Is she Leanne Rimes?  Is she Corinne Bailey Rae?  Because she has such control over her instrument and such a rich set of vocal tools to use, she can sing almost any genre well and that worries/bothers/annoys some people.  Frankly, Haley may never be pinned down to one genre or she may create a new genre all by herself a jazz/pop/funk fusion.  I am not going to worry; I’ll just sit back and enjoy.

  • milwlovesadam

I have come back to listen to this several times, each time I hear a new nuance to Haley´s voice. I am hoping for much success for her. And some collaborations with other great singers too. ** cough** Adam ( hint and hope ).

From what I understand, Slash is choosy about who he plays for. Not every singer gets Slash to back them up, on acoustic guitar no less.

  • http://twitter.com/fover Fred Overholt

And Haley could definitely do country!!!

  • Anonymous

If you think you hear nuance…try listening on a good set of earphones, it might just be me, but it sounded even richer and Haley’s vocal has more depth….

  • Reflections On Life

My last rock concert was a Slash, with Miles Kennedy on vocals, maybe a year and a half ago.  Miles really is very good live, and in an earlier era, he would have been a superstar.  Perhaps the same could be said of Haley. ;)

  • Anonymous

I’d really like to watch/hear the same line-up with only Haley on vocals. Both her and Myles have wonderful voices, but they honestly don’t mesh well, and more importantly, they sound too tentative in chorus because of it.
I think if Haley sang this alone, she would make it more powerful, more free, more – well, – wild;) As it is, it kinda lacked in this department IMO.

  • bmms

Haley was amazing.  I just wish that she sat between the guys.  Lol.  I also enjoyed listening to her comment why Ali is the Greatest fighter of all time.  She looked radiant and so happy on stage when all the stars came together to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Ali.   It took me awhile but I’ve finally become a HALEY fan. :)

  • Anonymous

You guys mentioned her audition which we only heard a snippet of.  While I’d agree that she’s grown significantly in the last year,  I’ve got to think her audition was a lot more than what you guys are looking at .

Oh no please! we already have our share of country contestants for season 10. Let it be soul/jazz/R&B/rock for Haley.

I agree though She could sing almost anything.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Larry-Judge/100003069541032 Larry Judge

Beautiful! She is such a star, when she is the featured artist along Slash & Myles and ends up stealing the spotlight. Well, she is leading in vocals but just the fact speaks volumes of her, in stage presence and quality of her voice. In addition, she gets to sing Happy Birthday to Ali. I think she is representing extremely well for AI.
It’s getting exciting, all this Haley journey ever since a year ago has been fun. And her appareances still surprise me, I still can’t put together all her upcoming events are so diverse.
