GLEE: Mercedes (Amber Riley, C), Santana (Naya Rivera, L) and Brittany (Heather Morris, R) perform in the "Saturday Night Glee-ver" episode of GLEE airing Tuesday, April 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. © 2012 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Adam Rose/FOX

I spent way more time than I should have figuring out who is singing what. The boys of Glee in falsetto? Y’all sound the same to me! If I got any of these wrong, let me know and I’ll correct.

UPDATE:  Now with song order and corrected vocal credits

After listing to these recordings, I remember why I disliked the music of Saturday Night Fever back in the day. The best songs here are the non-Bee Gees tunes. This may be a personal thing, but the Brothers Gibb? They put me to sleep. To my ears, the songs drone on repetitively.

Glee Spoilers – Saturday Night Glee-Ver
Glee Video  – Saturday Night Glee-ver Performances and Promos

Amber Riley is INCREDIBLE singing “Disco Inferno” by The Trammps. I also love Naya Rivera’s take on Yvonne Elliman’s “If I Can’t Have You.” Alex Newell from The Glee Project, makes a fine debut on KC and the Sunshine Band’s “Boogie Shoes”.  I hear he performs in drag.

“You Should Be Dancing” is elevated, because we’ve already seen the video and the staging and dancing in the performance are fantastic. I’m hoping the costuming and choreography will also elevate the rest. The promos we’ve seen so far look promising.

So what do you think? Does disco suck?

You Should Be Dancing – Blaine (Darren Criss) Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) Brittany (Heather Morris)

Night Fever – Will (Matthew Morrison), Sue (Jane Lynch), Joe (Samuel Larsen), Blaine (Darren Criss) and ND

I don’t expect this to be my favorite GLee. I can’t stand disco.

How is Glee doing ratings-wise this season?

  • Axxxel

OMG, Thank you very much MJ…
I am going to listen to all these clips all weekend long… I want the CD soundtrack like yesterday (I cannot access to I-tunes).
I thought it was Kevin Mc Hale in Night Fever….At least according to another (reliable ??) source, together with Darren Criss and Matt Morrison. I thought I heard Kurt in Staying Alive, the second part of the song.

A bit dissapointed that “More than a woman” is the Bee Gees falsetto version, and not the non-falsetto Tavares version.

Pleasantly surprised to hear Alex’s Boogie Shoes… Well done…
Santana makes me melt with her “If I can’t have you”… Pity it is not the Adam Lambert version but I guess Glee wants people to dance the whole time, except during Rachel’s song.

All that falsetto might not be everyone’s taste… but for me, the dance, the music and the memories will make this episode my most favorite Glee episode… Even when all storylines are bad….or make no sense…

  • Axxxel

I wonder whether this episode will help the ratings… Hoping for some interesting storylines… still suspecting something about Klaine and something brewing for Samcedes. And Brittana sex tapes ?

Disco is for such a specific generation and not really for the ”youth of today”… Or maybe this episode just tells the younsters: You will be so laughing at the music your parents used to dance to… and one day, 30 years later,  your kids will be laughing at Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga that you all adore right now….

I am so excited about Glee next week.  If done correctly, this could be my favorite episode ever!

too much songs…Disco Inferno is the only OK

  • Axxxel

It would be my favorite episode even when not done right.

Don’t like disco on the whole, but my dad loves the Bee Gees (and I love John Travolta), so I’m a fan…can’t wait!

Disco is not exactly my fav and sigh! I was hoping to hear more Kurt singing. But the dancing should be fun. So can’t wait too! I think I’m hearing Kurt in Night Fever. I might be hallucinating (from wishing) though.

  • Axxxel

Very hard to dissect who is singing what…am surprised that Kurt is not really featured prominently in the groupnumber… Oh well, I guess we have to wait until the Nyada audition or maybe the Whitney tribute before we here from him.

  • Axxxel

Yeah a lot of  songs. maybe they don’t want the audience to sit down and keep on dancing…

Disco is not exactly my fav and sigh! I was hoping to hear more Kurt singing.

The only one of the boys who sings in a natural falsetto voice + the camp of disco, and Kurt doesn’t get a prominent solo? Yeah, I’m not quite getting that. lol.

  • Axxxel

Robin Gibb ( Bee Gees ) is in a coma… Sad. Hope he is still alive at the time of Glee’s ” Saturday Night Fever tribute “… http://news.yahoo.com/robin-gibb-coma-pneumonia-hospital-221244163.html

  • Axxxel

Confused… read from another (reliable ?)  source that Kurt and Sam are totally not in the picture when it comes to the songs. Sad for me. Only Kevin Mc Hale who is also on Nightfever can console me… It is difficult though to differentiate the voices.

  • Axxxel

I am dissapointed because of a lack of camp Kurt singing solo – lines in  camp songs. Maybe it does not fit in the Kurt-Mercedes-Wade storyline and they want to have a Kurt solo in another episode…

  • Axxxel

Wow, whaaaaaaat ?? Finn lead singer on 2 songs ??!!! Blaine is also on 2 songs… Yeah for Artie on Night Fever. Would be cute to see Kurt dancing while “brother dear” is singing on “More than a woman”.

On a different note… Darren Criss first audition was not to get the role of Blaine… It was the role of Finn… and I think now he has succeeded… They are grooming Blaine to take over Finn’s role as a lead character. Except when they all of a sudden decide to develop Sam.
