Glee Season 5 Spoilers – New Love Interest For Sam, “Theatrical” New York Casting

A couple of Glee season 5 casting notes ahead:

We have detail on the character Phoebe Strole will play. Yesterday, Lea Michele announced her Glee casting on twitter, thanking co-creator, Ryan Murphy, for hiring her Spring Awakening pal.

However, that doesn’t mean Lea will necessarily see her buddy on set that much. According to TV Line, Phoebe will play the recurring role of Penny Owen, a sophomore in college who wants to get into nursing school and becomes Sam’s (Chord Overstreet) new love interest. Unless Sam plans to move to New York City after high school (I doubt it) Phoebe’s character will be based in Lima, OH.

However, we do have some details about a new character that’s heading to New York. E News reports that producers are looking for “…a big and bold actor to take on the fun, fun, fun role of Rodrick Easton, a talented and theatrical man who has a huge ego.” Could he be a Broadway star? Did Rachel (Lea Michele) get cast in Funny Girl or another Broadway play? Maybe the newly cast  Dani (Demi Lovato) and  the character played by Adam Lambert all will be part of that Broadway world? According to the spoilers Rachel, Santana (Naya Rivera), Dani and Adam’s character will intersect. Not to mention Kurt (Chris Colfer) who will find a nemesis in Adam’s character.

Speaking of Demi, there is speculation that her character will play Santana’s new love interest, based on a song spoiler that has them joining forces for the Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun” in the season’s second episode. I don’t know. It would kind of suck to pair up Santana with a character who is only set for 6 episodes…
