Glee Season 4 – Thanksgiving – Full Phillip Phillips’ “Home” One Direction’s “Live While We’re Young”

Here it is. The FULL version of “Homeward Bound” by Simon and Garfunkle mashed up with Philip Phillip’s “Home”. The graduates, including Finn, Santana, Puck, Mercedes, Mike and Quinn (Dianna Agron in her first appearance this season) sing the song to celebrate their return home for the Thanksgiving holiday. What do you think? I’m not convinced the two songs belong together, if I’m being honest.

And here is One Direction’s “Live Like We’re Young” sung by The Warblers at sectionals. The boys have not been the same since the Tufts Beelzebubs stopped recording the group’s backgrounds.

The songs are all from next week’s episode of Glee, set to air November 29,  titled “Thanksgiving,”  The glee graduates return home for Thanksgiving, but also to mentor the New Directions newbies as they prepare for the sectionals competition. Meanwhile, in New York City, Kurt and Rachel celebrate the holiday with new friends.

There are more tunes to come from “Thanksgiving” including Chris Colfer, Lea Michele and Sarah Jessica Parker performing “Let’s Have a Kiki” by Scissor Sisters, so watch out for that.

Home was beautiful. I really miss the old gang singing all together. “Cries”

So Glee gave Home the P2 treatment, huh… meaning it doesn’t sound ANYTHING like the original ;) I love the original, an uplifting song of hope. This version is a bit remorseful and tinged with a feeling of longing. It’s pretty though. And it kind of fits Glee this year. It’s not the same show since the main characters graduated.

  • sporkle

Beautiful harmonies! Home doesn’t sound at all like P2’s version, but I do quite like this mash-up arrangement.

  • CFIdolsfan

I’m with you, mj. I’m not sure that the 2 songs go together, but I do love what they have done with “Home.”

This choral arrangement of Home means we are going to hear this for years to come at every high school concert. This song will live in on!! lol

  • maymay

PP`s version is warm and upbeat. Glee`s version is more homesick and haunting. Ironically, Glee`s version is very PP`s music style. He often slowed down the melody during AI last season. Maybe PP should perform Glee`s version once.

From a timing perspective, I guess it’s better to perform the song now, as the first homecoming. It could be awkward to perform it in the Spring when Jessica Sanchez is scheduled to appear.

I think that the two songs actually do go well together, as they are thematically very similar. The harmonies on this are really really good. I never watch Glee and I’ve never bought any of the music from the show, but I really like this. Different from the original versions of both songs, of course, and a little too much with the choral orchestration at the end, but overall, very nice.

Who is the girl singing the solo? Is that Lea?

  • jennyl2

No. Its Diana in the beginning, then Naya, then Amber. Hope I didn’t miss anyone out. Guys are Mark, Cory and Harry.

Homeward Bound is S & G at there best.  The songs blended nicely together the kids sounded great.  Both songs touch that part of us that longs for the comfort and safeness of finding that place called home.

  • annie12120

Home/Homeward Bound… that was horrid to listen to – they butchered both songs. I quit after 40 seconds.

  • durbesque

Jimmie’s original concept evoked the Civil War.  The drummer boys and Phillip’s rough-hewn voice made it a thrilling Idol moment.  I would rather Glee had just done their concept of Home, without fracturing 2 songs to get something presentable.  But the Ohz are effective, no matter what.

The song, the haunting and homesickness actually fits nicely into the the story of the show. Glee was a place where the misfits found their acceptance and family. Now they have graduated to the ‘real harsh’ world. Coming ‘home’ to the Glee family ‘ know you are not alone’ fits perfectly.

I’ve never heard Home or Homeward Bound before so this is a new song for me and didn’t feel like a mash-up. I really like the song and think the harmonies are really pretty. I’ve missed the original cast singing together this season especially Naya and Amber.

I really like what they did with Home and there is very little of Homeward Bound in it. Personally, I do not like Home and still can’t figure out why they gave that song to Phillip. The Warblers sound awful and I also dislike the New Directions song but they sang it well.

  • getaway1

and still can’t figure out why they gave that song to Phillip.

Maybe it’s because the song has gone on to sell Double Platinum Plus and continues to rise after over 6 mos in release.

Love love love love the arrangement of “Home”. It’s more emotional than Phillip’s version but I love both!

  • lukien

Btw Home surges back to no 4 in iTunes, good ol Phillip!

  • milwlovesadam

Meh. For all of those. Just meh.

Maybe they should just do a whole Simon and Garfunkle episode of songs. That would be beautiful. Sounds of Silence. Cecilia. Bridge Over Troubled Water by Klaine. That would leave me Feelin’ Groovy.

    I wanna have a Kiki.

  • idolgleek92

It sounding haunting and a bit remorseful fits because its being sung by the grads (minus Rachel and Kurt) at the first time they’re all re-united again back at McKinley, aka home.

And clearly they had a crystal ball and knew all this would happen at the time they gave it to him.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

That was just so pretty; the harmonies are perfect.  Maybe I’d like more of “Homeward Bound”?

Maybe they should just do a whole Simon and Garfunkle episode of songs.

    What a terrific suggestion!

  • mmb

Lol will be interesting to see how they revise/tone down Lets Have A Kiki to get past the network sensors. Love that song…

And tonight Home is back up to #2 on iTunes. This little song has amazing resiliency!
