Glee – Night Of Neglect – Recap and Videos

GLEE: Sue (Jane Lynch, L) recruits Terri (Jessalyn Gilsig, second from L), Dustin (guest star Cheyenne Jackson, third from L) and Sandy (guest star Stephen Tobolowsky, R) to destroy the glee club in the "Night of Neglect" episode of GLEE airing Tuesday, April 19 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX. ©2011 Fox Broadcasting Co. Glee is back after hiatus with a brand new episode, “Night of Neglect”.

I really liked the idea for tonight’s episode: Showcase the Gleeksters who don’t get enough screen time through a benefit show called “A Night of Neglect”.  I never understood why the divine Amber Riley never got nearly the solos Lea Michele did. I guess it’s written into the contract, but Amber >>>>> Lea. Yeah, I went there.  Poor Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) is still neglected–we didn’t get a full performance.  It’s always awesome when Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) dances!

Relegating Darren Criss and Chris Colfer to bit parts this week fit tonight’s theme. But the one scene that showcased the duo–with Kurt, Blaine and Santana facing off bully Karovsky was mighty AWESOME.

More hilarity from Heather Morris (Brittany) as she tackles cat diseases for the Braniacs club.  Loved her answering questions with a mouth full of dots!

The romance path between Will and Emma is finally cleared!  Emma admits to Will that she and Carl (John Stamos) never had sex, enabling him to ask for an annulment. Holly (Gwyneth Paltrow) realizes Will still has feelings for Emma and takes off for a job in Cleveland, but not before pouring her heart out in song (Adele’s “Turning Tables”). Goodbye Gwynnie!

The Legue of Doom is a hilarious bust, with Holly delivering a lecture to the hecklers dispatched to the “Night of Neglect” benefit by Sue Sylvester that’s really a message to all those online Glee haterz. Touche!

I’ve capped many of the best moments from last night after the jump. PLUS, a look ahead to next week’s big 90 minute “Born This Way” episode.

Sue Sylvester, fresh off her loss at regionals is more determined than ever to destroy the glee club.  Gwyneth Paltrow is back as Will’s on-again-off-again girl friend Holly Holiday. And when Charice offers to help the glee kids with their benefit concert, is she sincere or spying for rival club, Vocal Adrenaline?

Harry Shum Jr. Gives E! a little scoop on next week’s “Born This Way” episode

“That episode is going to be a lot about Kurt and Karofsky. Also, in the glee club, everyone is going to be looking at themselves and seeing certain things they might not be happy with as far as their appearance or some inability that they cannot do, and it’s going to be a lot of finding themselves.”

MJ you would groan if you saw the poll I just saw with 58% of people most looking forward to “All by Myself”.

ugh, Charice, why do I dislike you so much?!

Gwyneth Paltrow should not be allowed to sing an Adele song, ever. When is she leaving the show?

  • idolfan92

I really liked Turning Tables. I thought that and Landslide were Gwenyth’s best songs. In terms of the storyline, yay for Emma/Will hope!

Hmmm – only a few comments – and no recap yet…. is it possible that I’m not the only one who is missing the old Glee?

No Blaine No Kurt No Warblers No Plot Mediocre songs….

Got to love Mike Chang dancing….

Did someone forget to notify the writers that they still have a job?

Sigh. AI is boring, Glee is songs stitched together with a pseudo plot that makes no sense (Sue would be fired from any real school for her behaviour – and who is allowing all these non teacher adults to roam the halls?)

  • idolfan92

Blaine and Kurt were in it. Frankly, I’m glad they weren’t prominent in this episode. We don’t need the Warblers every episode either. They’ve gotten their screen time. Mercedes has been in the shadow for much of this season, so it’s great that she got to be highlighted. And we got to see Mike Chang dance.

You said you’re missing the “old Glee.” I remember people saying this in the beginning of this season, but it’s funny because neither Blaine or the Warblers existed then. So you miss the old Glee with them? Or before they were here? One episode not featuring or making much note of Kurt and Blaine isn’t a big deal. They were a main storyline last episode. And I think we will be seeing plenty of them up ahead.

I for one still enjoy Glee immensely. I love Klaine, I’m hoping for more Finchel, and I want to see Wemma get back together! And all my friends and floormates who like Glee also are enjoying it just as much as ever (I’m college-aged). I don’t expect it to be like a real high school. It never acted like a real high school, not even last season. Yeah sometimes the plot is lacking but I guess I’m not expecting what some people are out of it.

Glee wasn’t that great for me tonight…and it really had nothing to do with the plot line although I found it a little slow…I’ll have to watch it on Hulu again later. Dang severe weather interruptions. :) I figure they were just doing a filler episode until next weeks big ole’ “Born This Way” one.

I was so happy it was back they could have sat around and sang the ABC’s and I probably would have watched it and enjoyed something.

Severe Weather interruptions gave me a really disjointed viewing tonight. Will definitely have to watch it again later.

  • soamused

Tired of Gwyneth. Why was she singing instead of a student? Charice was boring. Why do they never let Tina finish a song? This was a pretty dull show. At least Sue didn’t commit a felony this episode.

    Yes. *cries*

Ha ha. Thinking the Renee Zellwegger version from “Bridget Jones’ Diary” would be preferable to the Celine version.

Where are these kids parents? They have this “huge” benefit/fundraiser and none of their parents show up? Come to think of it, their parents are NEVER there.

This show wears on me with it’s unbelievably sometimes

  • Sq

I miss the old Glee – where there were real story archs – where the show was more than a bunch of songs tied together by a loose (and poorly written) storyline.

I loved the addition of Blaine and the Warblers – the Kurt/Blaine story is the only thing that kept us watching this year.

Why not have a successful concert? Where are the parents? If they could convince a choir and an orchestra to come then surely they could bring in some kids/adults to fill those seats.

The whole “loser” storyline is running thin. The Psycho Sue story makes no sense.

No way these kids could sing this well and still not have a following….

So glad I have a DVR – this episode took 15 minutes to watch…

I’ve learned to totally suspend disbelief when I watch Glee these days, and I just enjoy the music and love it when Brittany comes out with goofy stuff. There really isn’t much of a plot to follow and Sue’s antics have become so outrageous and ridiculous that I’m not that entertained by her any more.

I may be in the minority in liking Gwyneth, both in her role as Holly Holiday and her singing. It will be interesting to see what her solo album is like. I thought that Charice was great singing “All By Myself” (not a great fan of the song though), and enjoyed her “Listen” much more. Charice first came to prominence on youtube with her covers of big ballads by Whitney and Celine, so I’m not surprised that her big moments on the show follow that theme. I like that Amber and Mike Chang are getting more screen time – they are both really talented.

  • JJ123

I must say that was probably the most boring episode yet. I realize it was supposed to be filler but still a little effort would be nice. It was great to see Mike dance and Mercedes be more than a background ornament and I agree that it would be great for Tina to actually finish a song. I now dislike Lauren even more, she creeps me out and I’m sick of seeing so much of her on every episode. With the way this season has been going I can’t imagine them winning all the awards again, it’s just lazy writing….is it the performances that make them award worthy?? It can’t be the plot lines….since there pretty much aren’t any.

While out shopping yesterday I seen prepackaged Glee Easter baskets. Who exactly is the target audience here??

  • Allison

I switched it off halfway through to watch Jaime Oliver.

@luvadamlambert… Yeah, read that spoiler at the french glee website and I was enraged… still am… furious at the leak, furious at the leaked plot… Can’t see how this all can end well. full conflict ahead…

  • hypertwink

Boring show. I’m not a fan of Kurt but could they hurry up and get him back to McKinley?

Seriously, I like Darren Criss but I wanna kick Blaine in the face so much every time he comes into frame.

  • JJ123

I don’t know why but I have this feeling that the whole spoiler leak is a set up like it was meant to get out to throw people off. All I know is they need something to shake things back up on the show.

  • Sq

Honestly I doubt they are concerned about winning prizes or even making a great show – it’s just an hour long ad for their itunes releases of the week. That’s where then money is. Glee is a genius concept – an hour long ad/music video generating tons of revenue every week.

Hopefully someday they will spend some of that $ on some new writing…

  • holeigh_annie

I actually thought last night’s episode was a lot more coherent and funnier than it had been in awhile. I have to disagree with Amber being better than Lea on the whole, because Amber has the tendency to kill songs (in the bad way) with too many runs and needless high notes. However, she was stellar tonight, what an excellent song choice for her. And I want her dress!

Totally agree with you there. No Adele songs for her EVER! She wasn’t awful though and if I weren’t a big Adele fan and so familiar with her song, I might have enjoyed Gwyneth’s singing a little more.

For those that say that Glee is not realistic – well, duh – it isn’t supposed to be. It is a farce of sorts – 99% of what happens on that show would never happen in real life. Suspend belief, enjoy (or not). I wish Jane Lynch would sing more often – there is so much singing talent on that show that they don’t need movie star guest appearances by people like Gwyneth Paltrow taking up entertainment time.
