Recap and Videos after the JUMP…

I really missed my Klaine fix tonight. But we’ll get plenty of that next week. I posted the “Blame it On Alcohol” preview after the jump, and it reveals the girl that Blaine kisses during a game of Wine Coolers and Spin the Bottle is…Rachel. I kinda figured.

Tonight’s episode was not one of my favorites. I thought it was a meandering mess. The focus on Chord Overstreet’s character just proved how truly truly dull he is. The Sue Sylvester was like something out of the 3 Faces of Eve or Sybil. Is she naughty or nice? After being brought nearly to tears by a roomful of cancer kids its…back to destroying the Glee club for Sue. Eh.

Although the episode did start off promisingly enough early on with some pretty awesome one liners:

Sue: “Will, you have more grease in your hair than the guy behind wikileaks”
Sam: “My Dad Always said there are two ways to get a woman to love you–take her hunting, and rock and roll.”
Sam: “Who is more rock n roll than Justin Bieber? No one. That’s who.”
Brittany on why she was wearing Rachel’s legwarmers on her arms: “I wore a tank top today because I thought it was summer. Nobody ever taught me how to read a calendar”
Pamphlet about depression Emma handed to Sue: “I am too depressed to even open this pamphlet”

The episode went downhill after the first 15 minutes. “You guys do realize that Justin Bieber sucks, right?” Finn tells the guys who want to expand Sam’s one-man Justin Bieber tribute into a band. I just wish Ryan Murphy had come to that realization. The two songs “Baby” and “Somebody to Love” were…Zzzzzz.

Other plot points. Sue joins the Glee club to cheer herself up after failing to lead the Cheerios into Nationals. She joins them for a big number, then decides to use her free time coaching rival glee club Aural Intensity (OMG that name). Rachel’s attempt to become a fashion trendsetter fails,.as does Sue’s attempt to pit Diva against Diva. Lauren sings her first solo while imagining the Glee club in their underwear. Sam breaks up with Quinn after Santana forces him to face the fact that she cheated on him And hey, why does Finn have trouble dating his friend’s girlfriend on the down low after he sanctimoniously broke up with Rachel for cheating? Huh?

So Yah. A pretty boring episode. Oh, except Rachel suggests that in order to blow the competition away at regionals, New Directions needs to sing original songs. Hello radio play and hit songs for the Glee gang! Billboard has reported that it’s likely the Glee cast will be recording original material.

Baby – Sam

Somebody to Love – Sam, Artie, Puck, Mike

Take Me Or Leave Me – Rachel and Mercedes

This Little Light of Mine – Will, Sue and Hospital Kids

I Know What Boys Like – Lauren

Sing – New Directions, including Sue

“Who’s more Rock ‘n Roll than Justin Beiber?”

And you’re done. I think I will catch up next week.

  • useless

“Who’s more rock n’ roll than Justin Beiber?”…. I suspect Ryan Murphy wrote that with tongue-in-cheek. BTW has anyone noticed that when Sam is dancing with the cast he looks pretty uncoordinated and clunky, but he didn’t do that badly with “Baby”.

  • HermeticallySealed

I imagine so, but still, done. I’m Beibered out.

  • useless

    “Beibered out” LOL!!
Santana just delivered all the best lines in the show.

  • chicksineggz

omg. why do the couples keep shuffling so much?!

I feel really bad for Rachel.

I actually thought the Bieber stuff was kinda cute and funny.

  • St.Lucia

Didn’t love it. (Too much Sam), but didn’t hate it. (Too many good lines from Santana and Brittany). It was just a fair episode. Not my favorite musical numbers. Too much Beiber.

Not sure what I think of Lauren’s singing, if you can even really call that singing. She mostly talked the song.

While I complained about too much Kurt before, I greatly missed him in this episode! I don’t like a Kurt centric episode, but at the same time, I don’t like no Kurt at all. I really missed Blaine… :)

I think I laughed about leg warmers as arm warmers for a good five minutes though. :)

  • bentley1530

Loved “Take Me Or Leave Me” and all of the humor tonight. Did not love the visit to the hospital, it stopped the episode cold for me.

  • fuzzywuzzy

It’s getting that I really only enjoy the musical numbers in this show. The plot is way to disjointed and complicated for me to follow. :)

  • revcat

I heard on TV this morning that the kid who plays Sam is the son of a song writer… Anybody else hear that? I haven’t looked it up yet but will.

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/luvadamlamberts-american-idol-tour-2009-washington-dc-re-cap.htm luvadamlambert

awwwwwwwwwwww i missed it :( i cantw ait to see it on hulu!!!

    But sam looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!

  • JJ123

There were some great Sue lines this week! It was weird to not have any Kurt at all. I just love Rachel, she cracks me up, makes me feel sorry for her, and makes me kinda dislike her all at once haha! The Bieber stuff was just bad….like really bad! They are ruining Puck DAMMIT!! From the stupid wig to him trying to get Lauren, it’s all just a big let down for me…wahhh!! Lauren’s song was creepy…I had to ff through it, I may have nightmares over how much I did see. I really thought we’d make it through the entire episode without a Finn/Rachel moment but of course not! When it comes to couples the writing is so all over the place that none of it makes sense. I’d give this episode a C-….the only thing that stopped in from failing were the one liners from Sue and Brittany!

  • mandabutter

Yes, revcat. Chord Overstreet is the son of a semifamous Nashville songwriter. His dad is also an Overstreet, I believe. Can’t think of the 1st name.
Okay, so the high-schoolers get DRUNK in the next episode?? Ouch, okay. I don’t want an after school special but I do hope they come down from cloud nine real fast.

Oh, and Plaid track suits for the win!! Loved that.
I like the Puck/Lauren storyline (but her singing antics are unfortunate, no more of that Ryan Murphy. kthanks) And I’m always crossing my fingers hoping that Mark Salling becomes a better actor. His look of disdain and half smiles while he is attempting to look “smitten” with her irks me to no end. Imagine Kim Kardashian dude!!

  • mandabutter

I think the writers were a little heavy-handed with Brittany and Santana lines tonight. Santana had like an exorcism of witty lines in the library scene with Sam.

Yes, I was noticing how Sam is lacking in the dance department. He seemed a little wonky during Somebody to Love. But being beside Mike Chang and Artie will make your shortcomings really stand out. That was a brilliant setup, tho. Loved the girls crowding the stage.
RENT song was fantastic!!!!! And lastly, I’m so over Quinn. I kind of want her off the show. She adds nothing.

ETA: I think Mike Ausiello, formerly of EW, pulls spoilers out of thin air. He’s been off the mark with a bunch of stuff. Ryan Murphy went on the record with Perez saying Blaine will always be gay (and not bi) and won’t be questioning himself. I don’t think the Santana/Blaine smooch during spin the bottle will be anything more than to serve to make Kurt jealous.

  • mandabutter

I was wondering when someone was going to call Sam out for being such a geek and his weird quirks (tho, please don’t drop the McConaughey impression, that’s really cute). I’m glad it was Santana. Seems like it could get juicy.
I do like that they are setting up or at least mending a friendship with Finnchel again. Of course they both have motives but Rachel seemed really touched by the gesture at the end. :)

  • jammasta

So why is Finn okay with Quinn cheating on Sam with him, but not okay with Rachel cheating or with Quinn rejecting him for her current boyfriend? Like he’s thinking “It’s okay if I encourage cheating, but when someone cheats on me, it’s over.”

    ?_?

Never mind, what do I know?

Anyway, I watched the second half of the episode and am glad I missed most of the Bieber stuff. I liked this episode.

  • JJ123

I don’t think the Santana/Blaine smooch during spin the bottle will be anything more than to serve to make Kurt jealous.

I’m pretty sure that it’s Rachel he’s kissing. I’ve learned to not take much from the previews or even the little spoilers, they never tell anything that shows what the episode will actually be about.

  • ViperRKOd

    Geez, Sam is hardly boring.

He is one of the actual male characters on this show that I appreciate and think can act and sing really well. He is cute as a button and I feel like he should be the future of the show in terms of the male characters.

Sorry MJ but I find Blaine to be a bit overrated and I’m not ashamed to say it or be in the minority on that. Kurt is fine but he needs time away because overexposure is not a good thing. Same goes for Sue, which is why it was a good thing she was MIA next week.

So yes, felt the need to stick up for Sam here since I have seen the words “dull” and “boring” to describe him on here quite a few times.

    You go Chord. :)

  • Axxxel

Funny to see Kurt so “excited” about Blaine’s kiss in the alcohol episode… I wonder whether there is a “Kurt’s kiss” …

  • musikken

rival glee club Oral Intensity (OMG that name)

Just a quick FYI: the rival club is Aural Intensity. :) You can see it spelled that way on Sue’s ballot.

  • Studio57

These shows just aren’t making sense anymore. First of all, Puck would never be with a fat girl- he’s too superficial, and this whole storyline makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

The back and forth ass kissing between celebrities and Ryan Murphy is grating on my last nerve too. The show is becoming more about who’s songs Murphy can clear or what star he can get on the show. Ceelo is the kicker for me- Ceelo Green, who would never approve the song “Crazy” to be sung on AI? I bet if Idol released the songs on Itunes as they are sung, and getting that quick buck like Glee does, Ceelo would have been singing a different tune.

Don’t even get me started on how they are holding back what could be a really cool gay love story between Blaine and Kurt.

This show has really jumped the shark for me.

  • mermichelle

Yes, revcat. Chord Overstreet is the son of a semifamous Nashville songwriter. His dad is also an Overstreet, I believe. Can’t think of the 1st name.

It is Paul Overstreet. I listen to alot of country, so I know most of these songs :)

I laughed at Sue’s attempted Gummy Vite overdose. I like Sam, his Bieber song,(very timely!) and Santana’s description of his disproportionately large mouth. Otherwise I found myself looking at the clock every 10 minutes and thinking there’s so much left of this show – it really dragged.

Like others said, the Puck/Lauren storyline is unbelievable, and I missed some Kurt.

  • Hakunamatata

am sure Kurt got to kiss someone as well. But they just had to show Blaine kissing rachel cos they wanted to wreck havoc in the www. Tumblr is going crazy cos of it!

    I don’t believe a bit. I am with JJ123.

  • Holden

Chord Overstreet is a much better singer than Bieber — and yes, the Bieber references were sarcastic.

Finn stringing Rachel along is getting tiresome. They should either get back together or move on.

I get the storyline of Kurt leaving McKinley and the Warblers having severe rules about who gets to solo. I just want to know when I will get to hear Chris Colfer sing again. Lately, all they’ve let him do is sway in the background. One would think that the guy who just won a Golden Globe might get a little more face time.

  • TwigLA

Personally I thought it was a good move to introduce the Bieber phenomina into the story line (what little there is). These are supposed to be high school kids so you would think that there would be discussion of a peer who is making it big. I also thought the guys all doing the Bieber hair was hilarious.

For me Finn and Rachel are the two most unlikeable people on this show. I find myself wanting to smack both of them in the face frequently.

I always look forward to Brittany lines. The girl is hilarious and the writers must enjoy writing for her.

I loved the Sue and Mr. Shue segment singing with the cancer kids. Might be my fave part of the entire episode.

  • JJ123

I was thinking about last night’s episode and I find it unfortunate the way they are portraying Lauren. Of course I despise her storyline with Puck for so many reasons but I’m not even talking about that. Her performance was like a circus side show purely to be laughed at like “everyone check out that fat girl dancing” kind of thing. I guess they’re trying to have her exude confidence but it’s really just down right creepy 99% of the time. Plus it’s like she’s the new pity poster child….this time it’s obesity awareness since the gay bullying of Kurt was being overdone. How long were most of the other cast members on the show before they got any kind of story?? Brittany, Santana, Tina and Mike were barely shown last year and Mercedes has never had an ongoing storyline either. Now it’s like Lauren shows up and she’s shoved in our faces…blech! I know that Blaine got a hot storyline right away but I think that was mostly due to the fact that his digital sales were through the roof instantly so that’s just business…plus you know he can actually sing.

Okay….just needed to get that rant off my chest and if I said it to people in my real life they’d have me committed haha.

Hmmm…I agree. Finn is extremely inconsisitant in his ethics but so are most 17 year olds I know. They are for the most part what is good for them is the right thing. lol.

  • hunnybunny

Hey, all…lurker here. :) Did anyone else find it interesting that their seeming to want to introduce original songs, now? Or was I off the mark with my interpretation?

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Ceelo is the kicker for me- Ceelo Green, who would never approve the song “Crazy” to be sung on AI?

Cee Lo didn’t have a problem. It was his partner, Danger Mouse, who blocked it.

Also, Chord Overstreet’s brother Nash, is a member of the band Hot Chelle Rae. He comes from a very musical family.

Chord Overstreet is a much better singer than Bieber — and yes, the Bieber references were sarcastic.

Yes, but we were still forced to endure two Justin Bieber songs. Heh.

  • chicksineggz

You know why this episode wasn’t that great? Ryan Murphy wrote it… I’m not saying that all the episodes he writes are bad, but a lot of them are.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gundomom CarieB

I am not upset over lack of plot and character progression in this show. I for one can just enjoy watching the kids act and sing. It doesn’t need to make a ton of sense, I just have to be entertained and I am.

Did anyone else find it interesting that their seeming to want to introduce original songs, now?

I think you are right… If i am not mistaken, Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele are recording a CD on their own right now… Mark Salling has a new CD… So…

Yeah, you are right, spoilers are taken out of context. Just like the “Gap attack”… I was so wrong on that one…

One would think that the guy who just won a Golden Globe might get a little more face time.

Chris Colfer did get more face time but OUTSIDE the show… He was heavily promoting Glee on MTV, and on the talkshows of Regis and Kelly, Letterman and Gayle King… And not everyone is into Kurt…and want other cast members to shine more…

  • milwlovesadam

I vote “meh” on this episode. Didn’t like the music. Didn’t like the plot lines. Sad to say, I’m getting sick of Lea Michelle. She is very talented, but, I really like Santana and Brittany’s singing and dancing. More please. More Kurt.

And, I just don’t believe the plot line with Puck and the heavy girl. As the mom of high-schoolers, and as someone who could stand to lose a few pounds herself, believe me, “fat” is the final frontier.

If the writers and producers are going after diversity issues of all types, I don’t know if they are helping “fat girls” with this plot line or not. This role is cast with a big girl who can’t sing or dance, and, quite frankly, isn’t “pretty” at all. If they are trying to prove a point that everybody deserves love, yikes. I just don’t like this plot line.

And, I don’t like Puck’s character. Are there real life guys like him? Sure. But why put him with the “Big Girl?” She deserves someone more like Finn. Not a guy who went to Juvy, has a hot temper, and knocked up the head cheerleader. It’s just too classic, the only guy the big girl can “get” is a loser. I vote “Meh.”

Biber looking so hot in the episode.

Yes, yes, so much yes. I liked Lauren initially right around Christmas, and now suddenly it’s Lauren all the time. I get so frustrated at the amount of all the new cast members they seem to throw into the mix without developing the old. Tina barely exists anymore, unless it is to break up with Artie and go out with Mike Chang and as for her singing an even bigger rarity. I’m glad they have Lauren on there to show that not every one is stick thin, but I’m very disenchanted with the way they are portraying her. It’s like every word out of someone’s mouth has to deal with her size. That rubs me wrong. She’s a big girl….we get it. We can all see it. Do we need to be reminded of that with every comment? I don’t care how secure you are as a heavier person you can’t tell me that comments about “wanting to get into those enormous pants” like Puck said roll off shoulders. They could really let up on that.

Glee gets too big for it’s britches sometimes. I hope this does not blow up in Ryan Murphy’s face.
