In case no one else reports this from Gray's or the boogie boards - Taylor himself admitted to a sore throat and some were saying strep but Brian L's wife reported in that she had spoken with Brian and it is just a cold bug not strep.
Someone also reported the air in the venue is extremely dry which as we all have experienced makes a sore throat feel even worse.
While the Meet & Greets are great they do expose Taylor to a lot of potential problems. Probably an artist less dedicated to his fans would eliminate them.
He will be meeting with 300 fans today at Laser's Edge - here's hoping he's taking some immune system boosters for that.

Taylor had absolutely no problems with JTFTW in Myrtle Beach, thought that live version was even better than the CD. In Ashville it was done a little differently with more guts & growl and the two people with me preferred that version.

He can do the song live just fine but because of the difficulty of the song there is no wiggle room if he has any lung or throat problems to cope with. Seems likely Taylor would have known that very well. Interesting that he has commented on stage that the song was pushed by Clive Davis both for the album and the single.
Cut him some slack folks - he's doing just fine and puts on a show like no other any of us and those we spoke with had ever experienced.

For those of you who were speculating why Daughtry has been missing a member of the band for the past few shows:

Josh Steely has been at home with his wife Mary awaiting the birth of their second child. Mary gave birth to a health baby boy (named Jonah) yesterday. Josh is now the proud papa of two boys (Trevor is the oldest).

I'm sorry to disappoint those who wondered if another spice boy was leaving the band. Josh will be rejoining the band as soon as possible.

LBB -
I haven't heard any accounts from the Ryman ast night (Thurs) but no doubt he through himself into that show. I was at the show in Atlanta tonight and frankly, I think Taylor just has problems with the low end of his register. He hit some pretty high notes on Goodbye Stranger (I think), although he left the extended falsetto to Loren and Melanie. He also some high notes pretty easily on the Commadores' Night Shift (not Night Life). The beginning of JTFTW always sounds rough live to me and he's said that song almost didn't make the album. I'm guessing it's because he just can't seem to get a handle on it yet. I didn't notice that problem with any other song tonight.

By the way, that guy is a ball of energy and it's clear he feeds off the crowd. We were fortunate enough to get spots right up by the stage. He puts on a fantastic show and even got me to like the two least favorite cuts off his new CD (Give Me Tonight and The Maze).

I know that Sundance went home because I didn't vote for him, being the evil little SP'er that I am. Having said that, I haven't, and, won't vote for anyone this season. They couldn't give me a ticket to see that bunch on tour. No more pop tarts for me.

Excuse me now, while I clear out a corner in my vacant room to set up a shrine to the AI god of rock, Chris Daughtry. (gag)

No Jeff is not joining the bandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Can't remember who told me this.... but I was asking out loud a few days ago why we don't see Jeff Lopez with the band when it was advertised that he would be part of the 8 man band ( it has been 7 thus far ). The response I got was that Jeff had personal business to attend to but will be joining the concert at Birmingham.

If he won't, what happened ? Is he out for the rest of the tour ?

It is obvious from the descriptions I heard that Taylor's voice is getting strained.

I'm a little worried. 10 straight sold-out concerts with little rest in between. He's killing himself. JTFTW is a hard song to sing and it looks like he needed Vicks Vaporub on the high notes.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the big night when the great Jeff Lopez joins the band too.

Here's a report of the Atlanta Concert from the Boogies board :

Atlanta, GA, 9 Mar 2007 set list:
Opening act: The Greyhounds

Soul Thing Josh gets things moving and Boogie lays it down, more Josh acrobatics

Heaven Knows tour standard à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“when I come hoooooommmmmmmmmmmeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 4x, drums, bass funk out, Melanie sounds great, Josh and Boogie exchange a bitta smackdown, then segues directly intoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

The Maze Funky bass, first I thought it was more funked out, but then Josh was bringing some rock chords, Taylor repeating à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know, you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ tags You Make Me Feel So Free (sung low and almost acapella) brief tag and moves to Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Get It On brief tag
Compared to What Band gets featured in the opening, Taylor starts low and easy, then pop punctuates at the end of the line ComPARed to WHAT, scattalicious squeaky sax, Josh rips some jazzy riffs, band gets more facetime to jam, nice, baby.

Wherever I Lay My Hat Basic Taylor vocals, light sniffs of sax behind him to accent, tour standard call and response with à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Marvinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Jackieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to tag Night Shift brief tag, bit of extended falsetto on the end of the tag, tags Chain Gang brief tag, the audience singing repeats so he can go back to Night Shift brief tag

Just to Feel That Way Tonightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s version is exploring the Bon Jovi in Taylor, big audience sing along, Taylor kind of Vicks Vaporub on the high notes

Give Me Tonight Josh is moving this to the 80à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s big hair geetar, 70s disco has been abandoned for the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Greed is Goodà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and shoulder pads sound, whoa there Boogie and Josh and Brian G do a threesome of awesomeitude, big Rawk Starr finish chords from the band.

The Deal Knob Creek straight up country guitar version with extra sax

Goodbye Stranger only second time he has done this on the tour Well, helllooo Melanie gets a featureà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦seriously, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the late 70s, the jam band is king, everyoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s in tight pants, and right now Josh is making me relive my youth.

Heart and Soul Basic start, Josh does some Van Halen-ish finger work while keeping to the basic script, Boogie feeds the increasing energy, begins to get almost Too Too, and then Taylor reins everybody back so Boogie can make his bass crush us with extended deep hotness, Taylor tags Brown-Eyed Handsome Man brief tag, band does some awesome in-synch chords, to introduce the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“rounding home, rounding homeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ repeat thing he does, big finish, claro que si.

Gonna Move Tour standard version, call and response with à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Yea Yea,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Boogie solo, well duh! Makes my tongue hurt, not sure why, I get all perturbed and woozy when Boogie does the bass solo on this song.

Hold on to Your Love Tour standard fast calypso version, tonight the band is very tight, lots of very impressive simultaneous sharp synchopated chords, slows it all down to tag Can't Trust Your Neighbor, Josh does a lovely, lovely electric blue jazz solo, shades of Muddy Waters? Taylor falsettos us into Night Life, followed by the big shake and bake blues build up and finish.

Dream Myself Awake A perfectly serviceable version. Perhaps a bizarrely inappropriate rap would give this a bit more sauce? Nice Josh solo, works with what heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s got.

The Right Place IMO, Taylor sings this a bit conservatively tonight compared to other nights, keeping it tighter to the chest, perhaps a country feel from the band.

The Runaround 15th song of the night, extra long set Good stuff, general runaround energy, probably spinning and all that, shuts down to tag Goinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Up the Country??, train harp, leads to Cold Baloney, more train harp, Love Me Do harp bit (hee hee), the big Carnegie Hall finish.

ENCORE ( more, more, more from audience )

Taylor comes back in and they hear the intro strains from the keyboard to ... GEORGIA !!

Sax is an awesome addition to this already awesome song. Taylor roars for a bit, then moves to the scat, and the band pushes the Rehearsals.com big lungy blues jam version. Actually, That was a lot more, um, aggressive, rockier, bluesier version. Kind of over the top band jam, we lose some of the voice, and the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all folksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ending.

Taylor comes back in and they hear the intro strains from the keyboard to … GEORGIA !!

Holy Crap Taylor is doing Georgia for the Encoreà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

It sounds great on cell cert

Kudos to all who predicted he's saving it for Atlanta. You were RIGHT ON !!

If only this performance had been recorded, we'd be able to compare it with his recorded version.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m still a little disappointed in Sundance getting the boot. Too bad he couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sing better. At least I have RSF.

Too bad they couldn't all sing a little better!
