    Salon renovates, relocates

Things weren’t looking so good in June of 2006 when Iris “Annette” Torres got word from her landlord the rent on her business would more than double…

… Now, said Torres, “Business is pretty good.”
She said she’s grateful to her old customers for having remained faithful and making the transition to the new address, which sits just a block away from the Taunton Green. One of her steady customers is Nick Pedro, Taunton’s “American Idol” contestant…

    ‘Idol’ segment judged unfair
VIEWERS PROTEST SHOW’S PORTRAYAL OF E. KENTUCKY

A segment of this week’s fund-raising episode of American Idol was not a winner in Eastern Kentucky.

Gov. Ernie Fletcher and others in the region took issue with the popular TV show’s focus on the area’s poverty as it helped raise money for a literacy program.

“I’m disappointed with the implications of American Idol last night,” Gov. Ernie Fletcher said in a speech last night at the 20th Annual East Kentucky Leadership Conference…..

‘American Idol’ charity special pulls in $60 million-plus to aid poor

An à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ charity special filled with wrenching pictures of impoverished children and celebrity appeals raised more than $60 million, Fox said Thursday.

The money from à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idol Gives Back,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ a two-night special that was combined with the regular talent contest, will go to organizations funding relief programs for America and Africa, the network said. Donations came from viewers and corporations.

A total of $5 million was pledged by Fox parent company News Corp., which gave 10 cents for each of the first 50 million votes received for contestants on Tuesday’s show. More than 70 million votes were cast, a record for the show, Fox said.

Pledges were still coming in and an updated total was to be announced on next Tuesday’s show, Fox said……

    BLAB!

CELEBRITY TERROR ALERT: What we should be worried about this week

“I miss him probably in the same way I miss my favorite horror movie. And I don’t mean that nastily. I like horror movies.”

    - Simon Cowell on departed American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar

    LATE-NIGHT JOKE OF THE WEEK

“Edy’s ice cream company has come out with five new flavors inspired by American Idol. The least popular flavor: ‘Paula Abdul’s Cookies n’ Cream n’ Pills n’ Booze.’ ”

    - Conan O’Brien, host of NBC’s “Late Night With Conan O’Brien”

SANJAYA’S WORLD TOUR: American Idol reject proves it: Even the losers get lucky sometimes

Sanjaya Malakar may have been the bane of American Idol this season — but once he got the boot April 18, we discovered how dull the show is without him. Fortunately, Sanjaya is one popular dude, and he’s been everywhere during the past week and a half. Well, maybe not everywhere, or even out of the U.S., but definitely in Sanjaya world.

MARCH 27: Sanjaya debuts the pony-tailed faux-hawk, which helps make him such a target that he might as well have put a bull’s-eye on his head.

APRIL 17: We’re not even sure what to say about Sanjaya’s “country night” look, except that maybe Willie Nelson should give the kid bandanna lessons.

APRIL 18: Sanjaya reprises Bonnie Raitt’s Something to Talk About, the song that led to his Idol eviction after viewers looked for something to plug their ears.

APRIL 19: Donny Osmond, singing with Sanjaya on The Tonight Show, is still a little bit rock ‘n’ roll. Sanjaya is a little bit hair model, a little bit circus act.

APRIL 21: Sanjaya and model Petra Nemcova after the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. We didn’t even know they were reporters.

MONDAY: Sanjaya waves bye-bye, but it isn’t the last you’ve seen of him. Not by a long shot.

MONDAY: You haven’t made it in show biz till you’ve been slimed on Nickelodeon, and Sanjaya got the green-sheen treatment this week. Has Blab! told you it loves slime pictures?

    Karaoke Machines
By day, they’re math teachers, waitresses, businessmen — but give ‘em a mike and stick ‘em in front of an audience, and it’s showtime, baby

…Not that karaoke needs to be sung well to be fun. That’s why we do it close to friends, food and copious amounts of alcohol.

Still — and we hate to admit this, for fear of encouraging the train wrecks — some people who step up to the mike can really put on a performance. A few can belt it out like the pros, and the rest are so entertaining we forget when they lose a few notes.

So in honor of National Karaoke Week, celebrated through Saturday, we set out to find some of Cowtown’s top karaoke singers…

…Ed Guignard looks like a tough guy — tall and burly and thick with some seriously intimidating biceps. So there’s a bit of a disconnect when he readies himself to sing and the tinkling piano of the Garth Brooks’ weeper The Dance starts pumping out of the speakers.

But he captures the wistful mood. He makes the tune believable and keeps up with the ballad, tossing off runs like he’s American Idol contestant Chris Richardson…

‘American Idol’ tugs at the heart to the very end
Clips of dying children and desperate parents are used to spur donations. False promise leaves Jordin Sparks twisting.

…”American Idol’s” returning Prodigal Daughter, Kelly Clarkson, offered the night’s most in-the-moment live performance in her duet with British guitar hero Jeff Beck on the inspirational ballad “Up to the Mountain.” Beck affixed his eyes on Clarkson, echoing and answering her bluesy vocal with sinuous finger-picked fills from his trusty Stratocaster.

Midway through, musical director Rickey Minor unnecessarily cued the strings, as he did on all the selections from high-powered performers Annie Lennox, Rascal Flatts, Il Divo, Josh Groban and even in the refreshingly funky Earth, Wind & Fire medley that provided one of the show’s few upbeat numbers…

On ‘Idol,’ Elvis not only lives, he sings and he seeks a donation

    How’d they do it?

“American Idol” officials weren’t saying much the morning after Wednesday night’s hyped-up duet between Celine Dion and a surprisingly lively looking Elvis Presley for the “Idol Gives Back” fundraising special…

…Presley’s performance of W. Earl Brown’s “If I Can Dream” came from his 1968 TV comeback special, which rejuvenated his career after it had been in the doldrums for years.

With Photoshop-like technology called Rotorscope, the 39-year-old Presley footage was morphed with recently taped shots featuring 39-year-old Dion, as though it were taking place at the same time as the rest of Wednesday’s show.

An “Idol” spokesman said only that an Elvis impersonator was used “at one point.”

Likewise, there was no announcement detailing when the faux Elvis had left the building.

From African poverty to American Idol

The videoconference followed the groupà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s presentation on African development, which was featured at the beginning of this weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s episode of American Idol. American Idol: U-T Judging Panel: Telethon Week

Can I have the three hours of my life back that I spent watching “American Idol” last week?
While I appreciate such good causes as the Wednesday telethon as much as the next person, I didn’t sign up for the “Parade of B-list Stars.”
It’s bad when Melinda, Phil, Jordin, Blake, LaKisha and Chris are second-class citizens of a show that’s supposed to be highlighting their talent. Although, in hindsight, this truly wasn’t anyone’s best week.
Melinda was OK, Phil was good, Chris and Blake weren’t half bad. Jordin and LaKisha should thank their lucky stars, because both were a screechy mess.
So, in the spirit of giving, our judges are ready to comment. Let’s get to it…

The Secret Behind Sanjaya’s Goofy Grin?

Sanjaya Malakar’s goofy grin might have something to do with his family’s secret stash.

Two years ago, the “American Idol” contestant’s mom, Jillian Blith, sister Shyamali and stepdad, Charles Quist, were busted by police in Washington State on marijuana charges, TMZ.com reports.

Sis Shyamali Malakar, 17, was pinched on possession charges when cops found her at the family home on Feb. 24, 2005, with a bag of weed. In the garage, they found 310 marijuana plants, according to police reports.

Shyamali led police to a nearby marijuana growing facility where they found Blith and Quist along with other pot plants.

Blith pleaded guilty to one count of felonious manufacture of a controlled substance and spent 30 days in jail, TMZ.com reported. No word on the sentences for Malakar and Quist.

The news is enough to have the Web site dubbing the “American Idol” contestant’s family operation “Ganja-ya!”

    Rock royalty
Rod Stewart has earned his crown, and at 62 he’s wearing it very well

…”Through the last tour, I thought, this really isn’t working, so I made the decision even before we did the ‘Still the Same’ album. No one seems to be missing it. I love singing those songs, but I don’t miss it. Most of the people do come to hear the rock stuff, anyway.”

Stewart plans to stick with the concept album approach for the foreseeable future, and his next idea is to venture into country music, noting, “‘You’re in My Heart’ is essentially a country song.”

But as much as the boomers glom onto his covers of standards, Stewart successfully charmed a slightly younger demographic last spring when he served as a coach on “American Idol.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I think I helped get one of the contestants kicked off — Kellie [Pickler], the little blonde!” Stewart says with a throaty laugh. “I was trying to explain that you sing behind the beat, but she tried to learn it overnight and it just didn’t work.”

Stewart’s appearance resulted in the requisite bump in album sales his four “Songbook” albums increased 253 percent the following week — and in October he reprised his role on “The X-Factor,” a similar talent show in England that is also guided by Simon Cowell.

“I like Simon very much,” Stewart says. “He speaks for people. I wish ‘American Idol’ had been around during my time. I would love to go on that show now in disguise and see what Simon said about me.”

Likely, Cowell would realize, there is only one Rod Stewart.

Letcher school is center stage on ‘Idol’
Viewers respond with offers of help

“American Idol” viewers barraged Kentucky officials with calls and e-mails yesterday, eager to help an Appalachian elementary school that the popular reality show had featured to promote literacy.

Students and parents from Beckham Bates Elementary School in Letcher County appeared during the “Idol Gives Back” special, which aired Wednesday and was viewed by more than 34 million people, according to early Nielson ratings…

…”Most of the individuals have asked for contact information for the school and expressed interest in donating books, money or other resources,” Gross said. “Some individuals offered their services as tutors or literacy specialists.”

Gross said all of the requests for information and offers to help have been forwarded to Twyla Messer, the principal at the school, which is about 220 miles from Louisville near the Kentucky-Virginia state line.

    Sinking of liner notes

Great. So now everyone is a winner on American Idol.

Talk about an act of charity. Perhaps the remaining contestants should simply cut our losses and form a group. They could call it Sugar Jones, or Velvet Empire. Neither name is being used at the moment….

…Of course, Simmons was not referring to American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s charitable ways. He was referring to his labelà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s efforts to discourage artists from using derogatory, sexist and inflammatory language in their music. And his words are encouraging at a time when encouraging words are scarce.

In fact, when it comes to music, words in general are in short supply. And not just because extended solos are making a comeback. Or because selected words are routinely expunged from radio edits of your favourite songs. Or because vocoders are obscuring an increasing number of no-doubt poignant sentiments.

No, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m talking about an endangered music tradition known as the liner note. Back in the day, liner notes were an essential listenerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s guide to new releases. People needed to know whether the album they held in their hands was worthy of shelling out $5.98. Someone had to tell us that yes, it was…

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Getting Interesting with Emergence of Jordin Sparks

For quite some time this season it appeared as if à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ had a serious problem on their hands. While Sanjaya was a part of that problem he certainly wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t the whole package, rather it was the general lack of interesting contestants and distinctive voices that threatened to take the drama out of the competition. Early on there was the belief that it was a two way race between Melinda Doolittle and LaKisha Jones for the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ title. When LaKisha began to falter and strung together a few less than impressive performances it seemed like the right thing for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ to do was just crown Melinda and call it a season. But as is often the case in life, when somebody stumbles thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s usually somebody waiting to fill the void and in LaKishaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s place stepped Jordin Sparks.

Now things have gotten interesting on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Idol.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Perhaps Melinda peaked too early and wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be able to withstand the growing number of voters that have rallied behind the 17-year-old Sparks. One thing is for certain, Simon, Paula and Randy wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stop talking about the Jordin….

Because it’s very difficult for someone like Nick with his 10 Voice Lessons by the Book to compete with someone like Melinda, who even DURING the competition is getting vocal help from the outside.

I’m not inferring Melinda is not playing fair. Idol has no issue with it, so why should Melinda — but I do think it is something that should be looked at.

    Good morning all!
Just checking in this morning to say I watched ‘American Idol Extra’ last night. They had the 6, each in group of two, come out to chat. LaKisha and Phil were first and they asked if they knew all were safe Wenesday night. Lakisha said she didn’t but Phil said just before they went on stage Melinda speculated to all that everyone would stay on another week. Lakisha said she knew that she would be going home that night. She knows her time is up…. I really came away liking her…she seems so grounded and humble. All 6 seem to truly like each other….each very supportive and having a blast. Blake and Chris were really joking with each other…..good to see! I see this group as being very tight and genuinely care what happens to all.I have to admit that was missing from AI5…..even though there were some strong friendships developed between a few.
Have a great weekend, everyone! Pix

Ok according to the Ai standards of sales Josh Gracin is doing better in sales (elliot ,tay, and kat),good for him, should some of them w/ less go country…? This is interesting how they compare considering the cd of others may not be the best cd,have ai less fav and picked up on by the media, good cd but not a fast buying market,Ai morphing them into a uncomfortable fit and finally you have those w/ a great cd and pop in the industry………Treated badly welcome to business . Some will keep on the business .

I think Ai standard of platum is very high or that in thier standard for anyone is ..for instance last yaer only one has reached success..I also think country seems for forgivening….

If Taylor Hicks were to perform at AI 6 ( maybe the finale ), this is the song he should be singing ( he performed this without the screaming fans at the Hartford Marriot show of the station, TIC-FM 96.5 FM In Hartford, CT ( that was prior to his Foxwoods concert ).

OK. I’ve seen that (I can get YouTube at home, but it’s blocked from work). Just drives me nuts when people link to it & don’t say what the link is, as I can’t follow the conversation. The Right Place is my choice for him to do at the finale as well, after having seen him at 2 concerts. It employs the best of what he’s done well on IA in the past. He did really well in the last half of the show singing one slow & one fast song. The Right Place has a bit of each, along the lines of how “Try a Little Tenderness” started slow & then built up. Plus, it’s a song he likes much better than “JTFTW”, and that comes across in his performance.

Yea, raising more than 30 million bucks is TOTALLY insulting to the children, totally. Now theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re going to get to eat! And theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be able to read and get a better education!

AFan…was just thinking about this. Since I am older than dirt, I remember these same conditions in Africa from the time I was in my early twenties. Tragically, it has been going on for years. They actually showed a starved-to-death child on the news…first “dead” body ever broadcast on TV. Ahhhh, the news media….Aid has been pouring in for years! But there are some real logistical problems in trying to help these folks.

They live in groups (many small) scattered throughout the entire (huge!) country. They are literally 100s of miles apart. We saw it in the malaria clinic..people were having to travel for miles to get treatment. There was an incident years ago where thousands of pounds of food were dropped but there was no way to get the food to the people or the people to the food! George Carlin included this in one of his routines. His question: why not bring the people together so that aid can actually reach them!

As a mother, I have never understood why one would choose to have 10 children when they could not feed one! Why would parents with several children and full-blown AIDS go on to have 2-3 more children?? They have tried for years to implement birth control–holding classes and providing free birth control pills. The women won’t take them.

In an effort to try to control the huge AIDS epdemic, they have tried for years to teach “safe sex”, again with classes and providing condoms. The men won’t use them.

They have tried to teach the people how to grow their own food. Again, no success. I don’t know if it is a cultural thing or if these poor souls simply have no inspiration in light of their horrible, deplorable living conditions.

It is..and has been..for years a very difficult situation. Impossible to imagine–in the 21st century–that anyone would have to live like this!

As far as AI…I was not impressed with their fundraiser. I do not think they showed the proper “dignity or respect” to the ones they were trying to help, i.e., loved it when Madonna pointed out to all of us that these children had aids and without treatment would not live. I don’t think these children were deaf, dumb, blind or retarded. JMO..however, the end result is, of course, a good thing.

So now I know why Clay was not at the IGB benefit. He had a previous engagement.

American Idol Gives Back, Takes Award

On the same night that top-rated television show American Idol concluded a history-making two-part special, raising (at last count) more than $60 million for charitable causes, one-time American Idol finalist and successful recording star Clay Aiken received the Children’s Advocacy Award from the National Center for Learning Disabilities, held at the Marriott Marquis. Aiken was honored for his tireless work on behalf of children’s causes.

NCLD celebrated its 30th anniversary at its annual benefit dinner, “Voices of our Children, Voices of our Future,” Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at New York City’s Marriott Marquis.

The dinner honored three outstanding individuals who have championed the needs of children with learning disabilities and have given them a strong public voice. You can read more complete biographies by clicking on the names below.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¢ Arthur Ryan, Chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial, Inc., received the Spirit of Achievement Award.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¢ Clay Aiken, pop music star and special education activist, received the Children’s Advocacy Award.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¢ Donald D. Deshler, Ph.D., professor in the School of Education and director of the Center for Research on Learning at the University of Kansas, received the Distinguished Education Achievement Award.

Lisa B., thanks for the Reality TV article regarding the tissue snatching by Jordin. I, too, noticed it, and, thought it was mean and rude of her. I watched it more than once to be sure I saw what I saw. And, yes, she hatefully grabbed the tissue from LaKisha. I also noticed when Bono was with the contestants, when she knew she was on camera, she put on a big, fake smile. Also, last week, when Jordin was told to stand by Phil, she had a look of utter terror on her face. Of course, she knew that Phil had been in the bottom 3 many times, so, she probably thought he was bottom 3 again. But, then she turned on her fake smile for the cameras. A diva in training, I tell ya. I think all the praise has gone to her young head, and, she made a mess out of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” I sure didn’t hear what the judges heard. I heard more screaming and screeching than what they called LaKisha on. OH well, she is TCO, and, it will only get worse from here on out.

Next week, televisionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s most popular show heats up when the Top 6 (Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson, Jordin Sparks and Phil Stacey) compete head-to-head again on Tuesday at 8/7c. LOL, watching Ellen – she’s making some great cracks about American Idol

  • hopeful

On the topic of Christian music. Obviously I missed the original part of the conversation, but would just like to say that all music conveys values of some sort. It’s impossible to create art and not share how you see the world. You don’t have to like it, but there’s a market for it because there are enough other people who see the world the same way. I don’t think Amercian Idol would ever want a winner in that market (as I’ve seen mentioned on here before) because it wouldn’t sell enough. There are a few big acts in Christian music who do well, but not Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood well and very very rarely even Taylor Hicks well.

  • Metta

    Way to go guys.

I can’t stick around and post a bunch of stats because I have to work but if you were familiar with all of the seasons you wouldn’t say that.

  • Abilymom

Well, hopefully I can tolerate it more if others are singing it.

Anyone know if they are performing on results night? Because THAT I will avoid.

  • jersey

I would assume that they are since they have a new cd coming out.

  • hopeful

thought America picked the winner. Are we know choosing our favorites based on what AI wants?

No! I’ve just read speculation about what markets American Idol might want a winner in, and I just don’t think they’re itching to get someone who will only record Christian music. That’s all I’m saying. I’m a fan of Christian music myself, just so you know, that’s most of what I personally listen to. There are many talented artists who don’t get wide exposure because they’ve chosen to openly sing about the faith that defines their existence. God bless them, it’s been an encouragement for me. :clap_tb:

  • db

Heh…so it’s Bon Jovi songs then? I know a total of three. :-| I’m actually more familiar with Bon Jovi from his mulit-episode guest appearance on Ally McBeal a few years back.

Very easily. Their music makes an anger well-up inside me, a Hulk-like rage that makes me want to smash things.

:lol_tb: Curious though: Why the hate?

Fun video of Bon Jovi’s “You give Love a Bad Name”. Gawd, I love the hair! :wub_tb: Maybe they could bring Sanjaya back to do this one – lol

More on the technology behind the Elvis-Celine duet ( for those who aren’t afraid of re-animating the dead ) :

    http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=3087711

    EXCERPT :

“Rotoscoping allows you to take one image from a pre-existing piece of video and puts him a whole new environment à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ completely new use of that same piece of video,” Disney digital media designer Joe Husung said.

Similar technology has been used before. It brought Natalie Cole and her late father, Nat King Cole, together to perform “Unforgettable,” and allowed Forrest Gump to talk to former President Nixon.

A new British show puts the technology to use every day in “Duet Impossible,” in which stars perform with their late idols. If the concept crosses the pond, American audiences may soon see late legends like James Brown and Sinatra rocking the stage again.

I’d like to see Taylor do a duet with Ray Charles or Sam Cooke.

I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stick around and post a bunch of stats because I have to work but if you were familiar with all of the seasons you wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t say that

Maybe I mis-wrote, but I was under the assumption that the number of Idols from a SINGLE season doing this well with their CD’s has not happened before.
I do not recall 6 people from the same season of Idol 1, 2, 3, or 4 who have had albums debut as high on the charts as — Kellie, Bucky, Elliot, Katharine, Taylor and, of course, Chris D.
That was what I was referring to. Not the long-term success of any of them, since it is too soon to tell with S 5 or even S 4.

I look forward to the stats you can post, though. :smile2_tb:

I have to say, even though Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not a fan of Bon Jovià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s songs, I have to give him credit as a decent guy. He definitely remembers where he came from. And, he and his high school sweetheart have been able to remain married through the whole à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“rise to fameà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ thing and beyond.

Yes, he’s known to be a truly nice guy, and I do admire him even though I’ve never been a huge fan of his band’s music. Alas, I will have to miss the Bon Jovifest because I’ll be out of town on business and attending obligatory schmooze events on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Did Ryan say whether the 6 contestants will be singing only one song instead of 2 (as would normally be the case “top 5″ week)?

By the way, I’m wondering if the “Turn the TV Off” week thingy is part of the reason for the decline in AI’s ratings this week? Were there similar declines in viewership for other shows this week, does anyone know?

  • Abilymom

    Curious though: Why the hate?

I don’t know really. I think it’s something with the tonality or frequency his voice reaches that triggers something in my brain.

It’s like when they would play “Pop Goes the Weasel” for Curly on the Three Stooges and he’d fly into a rage.

    It’s like that.

Or it could also be that his voice triggers the remembrance of acid-washed jeans, which I loathe. Bon Jovi was big into acid-washed jeans back in the day, and hair gel. Lots and lots of hair gel.

  • Abilymom

Yes, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s known to be a truly nice guy, and I do admire him even though Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never been a huge fan of his bandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s music.

A little info on Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi has sold more than 35 million albums in the United States, and over 120 million albums worldwide. The band has had seven number one albums on the European charts, six number ones on the World Charts, two number one albums in the USA and five number one albums in the UK. As well as many number one albums throughout Australia, Japan, Canada and Germany.

I hope it’s alright to post this, since it concerns a torrent: for those comfortable using torrents, if you go here and register (you may have to try every ten minutes or so before a spot opens up) and do a search for “Taylor Hicks,” you’ll find a pristine recording of the entire Columbus concert encoded to FLAC. Good stuff, if you like that type of thing.

  • emeralgem

Thanks DB.. MJ was talking about torrents last night..Still not exactly sure of what it is are what they are, but will check it out.

I got my dad using torrents, and now he has to buy a new external hard drive because he’s downloading so much. Torrents are great, i can catch the tv i missed last night, download movies, and music from 1965. Music that’s no longer in print etc. If there’s a lot of old music you can’t find but still want to get, i’d suggest looking at torrents

Chris Sligh blogs about his brief exchange with Ricky the spoiler and also talks about the interesting celebrities he met in Washington DC here ( See blog entitled TRUTH AND WASHINGTON DC) :

    http://frommymindtoyoureyes.blogspot.com/

Tim Mcgraw actually called Sligh and told him to consider forming a southern country band because the genre lacks this kind of sound.

In another blog entitled — FRIENDS ARE FRIENDS FOREVER, Sligh also talks about the closest friends he made in Idol and needless to say, Phil was on top of the list. Among others he became close to were — Blake, Chris R., Gina GLocksen and Rudy Cardenas. He then talks about their talents ( just realize how many of these performers are great guitar players and song writers ).

Apolo Anton Ohno not being familiar with Eric Heiden
Alex Rodriguez not being familiar with Babe Ruth
George Bush not being familiar with George Washington (oh shit, scratch that one)

No, you can’t play FLAC with iTunes, and iTunes won’t convert FLAC to aac or mp3. I know of a great program to convert FLAC to an iPod compatible format for Macs, but if you’re not on a Mac, then that won’t help you much, lol. A quick search at Version Tracker pulled up a freeware program for Windows called Switch which looks easy to use…

Since when has singing rock music require you to know and be familiar with every rock song ever made? Chris doesn’t play music anything like the Who, so i’m not surprised he’s not that familiar with them. Chris’ sound is similar to those that he enjoys and listens to.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Three of the best know rock bands of all time – The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones. It’s inconceivable to me – whoops, no it’s not. I meant to say I “wish” it was inconceivable. Unfortunately, it’s not.

When you care about something you seek knowledge, you want to know more about it don’t you. How can someone who “cares” about rock music not know much about The Who? Does. Not. Compute.

I don’t mean to say the “suck” as much as I wanted to say that Bon Jovi doesn’t add much to the whole lexicon of rock music do they? They just sort of exist. As opposed to someone like, I don’t know, The Who – who changed the vocabulary a bit there.

Not sure what numbers undecided will post but I doubt other seasons have had 1)biggest rock debut in Soundscan history 2)biggest male country debut since 1992 3)biggest debut male artist (indie) ever
and so much domination of the single/album charts as Season 5 (although in total sales Kelly and Carrie dwarf everyone put together so far.) Elliott’s single is heating up and showing good upward momentum on the Top 40 charts.

I will no longer say anything negative about Season 6 idols as the remaining group seem like decent, talented folks. They deserve their day in the sun plus there’s only a month left of idol which seems unbelievable.

I am still on a high from going to my first Taylor concert last night (and first concert in 10 years). I will be going back to same venue tonight (Ameristar Casino in Kansas City) but will be in 3rd row instead of 17th. Quick recap:

I loved it as much as I hoped I would. His voice was spot on last night. The band was fantastic. Sucky crowd (yes I’m from Kansas City) just sat politely in their seats and clapped after each song. Hopefully tonight’s crowd will be better as last night was added date due to first one selling so quickly. Crowd was mixed ages and lots of men and I didn’t see one bedazzled Soul Patroller (tonight may be different). Venue holds 1500 – maybe 50 empty seats. No opening act – Taylor sang for about 1 1/2 hours. For encore, he came out alone and sang “The Fall” sitting on a stool playing his guitar. Last song was Elton John’s “Take Me To the Pilot” – first time they did it in concert and it was incredible. I also loved “The Right Place”. Lots of tagging – not much dancing which I think was due to the subdued crowd. Still he gave his all on stage and during last song ran along front of stage touching each extended hand and shaking some. I think he is really trying to communicate more with crowd – talked some too.

Sorry this turned out to be so long! I think I am going to turn into a concert junkie now. I love live music! I had forgotten how much due to panic disorder. I might be ready for Gwen Stefani or Akon or Van Morrison now!

Just occured to me how it would have looked like on TV. Ellen Degeneres was at the Walt Disney Theater in Hollywood and said it has a capacity of 1,600.

I heard from other boards that the show was actually sold out, but the approximately 50 empty seats you observed were reserved for special VIPS who did not come. When I was at FOXWOODS, there were a few empty seats as well although the show was sold out on the first day. Those were also VIP seats.

BTW, MJ said she loved the pointy poses from the group medleys in AI. It would be awesome if a group could do this medley :

This is a group called the 5th Dimension ( anyone remember them ? They were big in the 70′s ).

Sir Isaac ruled back when Physicists were the rock stars of their day. Tonnes of groupies throwing themselves at them each time they exited the lecture halls of Cambridge. The Clive Davis’s of that time were constantly trying to lure them to their lab(el)s. Publications which featured charcoal drawings of them sold out in seconds. Why, central London even had a popular show called British Math Idol where young men and women from around the country would come to compete in front of a panel 3 judges (one was a washed-up name dropping former member of a group of astronmers, one was a washed-up, meade-swilling former alchemist and one was an grumpy judge from the Americas who riled the crowds with his acidic putdowns).

Who am I kidding? Sir Isaac Newton probably got ditched for every lyre player who came through town just like today.

Idol Gives Back is doing well on the download charts. Carrie’s “I’ll Stand by You” is the number 2 download and Kelly’s “Up To the Mountain” is in the 60s. “Never Again” is sitting at number 3 and “Before He Cheats” is around 10.

I agree. However, it just seems strange that he was playing in one of the biggest cities in the world, in one of the most prestigious venues and he does a canned set list. Don’t get me wrong, he was fantastic, it just seems strange. It was almost as if he was overwhelmed with where he was playing and was too nervous to stray.

This is a group called the 5th Dimension ( anyone remember them ? I would LOOOVE to hear Melinda or Jordin reprise Marilyn Mcooà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s haunting version of ONE LESS BELL TO ANSWER ( that song is a killer and has never been done on AI before ).

I remember them AND One Less Bell. What a “classic”. I don’t know that anyone will ever do that song justice but Marilyn! Great memories….

  • cheese

Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interesting, to be honest, I wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t impressed. I mean she was good for an opening act, but not good enough to purchase her music.

I had already heard her a lot on XM Radio (*cough*ontheStarbucksstationwhendidIbecomesuchatool*cough*)and decided to go ahead and buy the CD when I found out that she would be opening for Taylor in VA. I like her voice a lot – it’s deep enough for me to sing along with- and I like her acoustic sound – it would actually be a good direction for Taylor (if he’s allowed to record another CD). I took a listen to her first CD and that was pretty crappy – she seems to have found her way.

I don’t know if I can tolerate a Bon Jovi week (I didn’t know they were still around?) “Slippery When Wet” came out during my freshman year in high school and I still shudder at the thought of the whole thing. I think I was the only girl who wasn’t smitten with him. (Morrissey was more my speed).

Scanned through comments because I can’t be bothered with the catfights.

Watching AI now, Blake was interviewed by Cat Deeley he stated he didn’t need to win, every week is a bonus.

  • Lisa B

Lakisha has allergies, sneezing all over the place. Jordin suffers as well. Cat’s convinced she’s allergic to her.

  • Kirsten

LisaB: Scanned through comments because I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be bothered with the catfights.

But we were hoping you would weigh in with your European perspective on who is cuter…Sir Isaac Newton on Jon Bon Jovi? (hint: go with the hot inventor of Calculus…you just have to know that a guy with, not one, but three (!!!!) laws of motion named after him must be smokin’ in the sack)

LisaB: Lakisha has allergies, sneezing all over the place. Jordin suffers as well. Catà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s convinced sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s allergic to her.

Well, Lakisha hates all animals, so it’s not surprising she’s allergic to somebody named Cat.

  • Little Boy Blue

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know that anyone will ever do that song justice but Marilyn! Great memoriesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

    ??? Which Marilyn ? Manson ?? LOL ( just kidding )

Wonder if she’s allergic to KAT too.

And speaking of animals, she might want to avoid the DAWG too…

There seems to be some confusion as to the theme of next week.
I found the following on the Official Site:

Next week, televisionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s most popular show heats up when the Top 6 Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson, Jordin Sparks and Phil Stacey) compete head-to-head again on Tuesda at 8/7c. Rock star Jon Bon Jovi will mentor the contestants as they prepare to sing songs by his legendary band.

It appears they will be doing Bon Jovi tunes!

Second Show blank screen before starting with the following text:

This is not intended as a solicitation for viewers outside the US.

Why not just say phone lines closed?

  • Lisa B

Phil, thinks if he wins it would be a win for the biggest underdog in history. In other wwords he doesn’t think he has a chance.

Jordin is thinking of a name for her alter ego, Beyonce anyone?

Kirtsen – Newton all the way baby!!

  • Lisa B

Son thought Jordin should have had the 60,000 Liverpool fans singing in the background with her. Cowell will probably have her sing at Anfield, they are a capitive/loyal audience and would download with avengence.

  • Lisa B

We had Cat interview E,W&F, she’s irritating the hell out of me, mugs at camera and tries to be cool talking with americianisms in a Brummie accent.

  • Metta

I am still on a high from going to my first Taylor concert last night (and first concert in 10 years).

Dante – Excellent!! I am so thrilled for you. I would love to hear more details. If you are still around, let’s meet in chat.

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been listening to Tobyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s music a lot more than Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s since last weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s show. See, Taylor didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make enough eye contact with meà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. ;)

    LOL!

  • Lisa B

Phil outsings Chris and Blake in the Quincy Jones song.

  • Kirsten

Kirtsen – Newton all the way baby!!

Yes!!!!11!1! Take that you lily-livered lyre players!

Not only has his “Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica” moved more units than “Slippery When Wet”, but now he’s officially winning the hot-o-meter contest.

  • Lisa B

Quincy thinks the ‘idols’ are fantastic, his advice…. humilty, grace…to keep their ego’s in control.

Cat trying to be deep talking about helping the poor, she’s not good.

  • radname

I like Cat Deely, atleast for SYTYCD i liked her as a host. I suffer from a lot of allergies (ragweed, pollen, animal hair, apple juice (but not apples! the list goes on). I love spring and can always tell when it’s coming because i wake up stuffed up

  • Lisa B

You can have her Radname, we can certainly live without her.

  • Lisa B

Sorry but we are so much better at these fundraising shows, this seems very amateur. Ben Stiller trying very hard, audience sounds subdued.

Ryan and Simon in Africa, our Vt’s are far more hard hitting.

Btw I must stick up for Simon and the poverty in America, of course he would be shocked, we don’t have any real poverty in the UK. We have free healthcare and benefits, there is no reason for anyone here to be homeless other than through their own choice. Why do you suppose illegal immigrants make a beeline for here?

  • Lisa B

Paula comforting a child, she seems more natural. Ill Divo time to mute telly.

Cat is a lot better host then…say Brooke Burke from rockstar, that girl talks and moves like a cardboard cut out

Jack Black, brilliant. Seal class act.

Not sure what numbers undecided will post but I doubt other seasons have had 1)biggest rock debut in Soundscan history 2)biggest male country debut since 1992 3)biggest debut male artist (indie) ever and so much domination of the single/album charts as Season 5 (although in total sales Kelly and Carrie dwarf everyone put together so far.) Elliottà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s single is heating up and showing good upward momentum on the Top 40 charts.

    Define “domination.”

  • Lisa B

No disrespect Radname, but our NHS is different we care for anyone and everyone, even someone who turns up from another country.

Most of our homeless are in central London, drug addicts, runaways and people with mental health issues that refuse help.

I’m not sure if you’re aware or not, but i live in canada and we have free healthcare for everyone as well. I was just talking to a friend who told me about two people i used to go to high school with are now both addicted to drugs. It’s kind of a big a shock because i’m only 20, the last time i saw these people was about 2 years ago and now they’re life is completely upside down.

Here’s a little clip of Elliott at a radio station… a little acoustic Movin On – nice guitar player! Thought you might enjoy this on a Friday afternoon.

I hadn’t seen the show and was curious about the whole tissue thing… sounds like some writer had a little too much time on their hands to me. Maybe I’ll watch it tonight and see how I feel about Tissuegate.

  • Lisa B

Yes Radname I’m well aware that you are in Canada, it still is different to our NHS, I’ve checked, we’ve had it a great deal longer. We also have a very generous benefit system.

Drug addiction can affected anyone, no matter how they are brought up and with how much money. I attended a Private School (many years ago) and one of my peers overdosed at 16, so I’m well aware of the pitfalls.

Annie is an old hand at this sort of fundraiser and it shows.

We’ve been chatting here how it would have been done here.

Stiller would have sung once enough money had been pulled in and Hugh Laurie would have been in the studio live playing piano. They needed big names in the actual studio live not recorded clips.

That way the audience would have been more pumped up and more money would have rolled in.

Oh, I agree. I think it would have more beneficial if the IGB fundraiser was independent of the competition. That way there wouldn’t be the tension between keeping all eyes on the competition and trying to draw the attention of viewers to the issues of poverty, AIDS, etc., etc.

Maybe Daughtry simply hasn’t heard enough of the The Who to appreciate their exalted status as rock gods. Yeah, he really needs to get educated, but he apparently does appreciate the great Led Zepplin though, so I’ll cut him a little slack for that…;)

A Bon Jovi theme for next week? Yuk! Dead or Alive is the only one I really like. Good thing they have a lot of balladly stuff, which will bode well for some of the contestants. The boyz need to really ramp it up to hit some of the Bon Jovi notes.

Honestly, in light of LBB’s mention of Marilyn Manson, I was going to post a track but thought better…not for everyone….but The Dope Show is a killer rock tune (only thing is, you just can’t watch him, lol)

That’s not the point Lisa. The point is that playing the ‘my country is better than your country’ game is just as boring as the ‘my idol’ game.
But since you brought it up, I’d be interested to see the source for your stated “fact” that you “donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have any real poverty in the UK”.

Pre-itunes. I just wanted it for his version of “Sweet Dreams.” That was a fave in my clubbing days in the mid-nineties. I’m well over those days. LOL.

Have fun walking the dog and yay about the new computer!

  • lg

msgirl, well it’s about time, lol! So happy for you….now I need to figure out something to buy tomorrow, hmmm, do I buy something I really don’t need to get the tax break…hey a subwoofer for the computer, that’s it! They’re only about $70 bucks (I think). Glad to know I’m not the only Marilyn fan out there :) , he definitely has his own distinctive sound and has some great trax. But going to a concert, well that’s a different matter entirely.

“no sponsor promo’s” – hey, think I’ll take the British edit! Speaking of the charity theme, on the one hand, it’s wonderful, and so many of the people involved are no doubt sincere, but I just can’t get the thought of the PTB rubbin’ their money-grubbin’ hands together with glee outta my head…

I wonder how much they made on ads over the 2 nights compared with how much they raised? Do you think they charged more for ads on the IGB show than they do on the regular show?

  • Lisa B

That wasn’t my point at all Lynnie. I have read many posts critising Simon’s lack of knowledge about food banks in the US and I was just explaining why it would be a shock to him.

    It obviously missed the mark.

  • Kirsten

For all of you Marilyn Manson fans and interested parties out there in MJ land, he has a new CD dropping June 5th (I’m not personally a fan, but I noticed that when checking out new releases a while back).

  • pj

LisaB, no worries. I knew what you meant. I wish we had the same sort of healthcare system here in the US.

  • Kirsten

LisaB: I have read many posts critising Simonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s lack of knowledge about food banks in the US and I was just explaining why it would be a shock to him.

But they have food banks in the UK as well. Some of them even have internet sites. According to the Cambridge Food Bank, over 4 million people in the UK cannot afford a healthy diet and 1 in 7 over the age of 65 are at risk of malnourishment.

The UK has a better social safety net than the US (let’s not argue, it’s true). Why would Simon be surprised to find food banks in the US when they are in the UK?

I chalk it up to him not having time to read a newspaper or bad acting on his part.

  • Lisa B

    Thanks PJ.

  • lg

lynnie, I wouldn’t doubt them charging more for ads…I am really jaded after getting hip to their ways last year, it was the first time I’d ever watched as more than a casual viewer (loved Bo in AI 4) and spent untold $$ in text votes for Taylor. Then, his CD wasn’t all that I’d hoped for…but I am so loving his tour and look forward to the next album.

Kirsten, I saw that Marilyn has a new one out…maybe there will be a coupla gems akin to The Dope Show on there.

But they have food banks in the UK as well. Some of them even have internet sites. According to the Cambridge Food Bank, over 4 million people in the UK cannot afford a healthy diet and 1 in 7 over the age of 65 are at risk of malnourishment.

And according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies in London
Poverty and Inequatlity in Britain 2006, 19-20% of the UK population lives below the 60% median income, and there are still over
3 million children living in poverty.
The UK is just slightly below us in % of residents living in poverty, I think it is something like 21% of the UK and 23% of the US.

From a BBC article “More than one in four children live in poverty.
Poverty is the single greatest threat to the well-being of children in the UK.
In some regions, child poverty is even higher: rising to 54% in inner London.
But the starkest deprivation is found in tiny, almost hidden pockets: there are some wards in the UK where over 90% of children live in poverty.”

From Oxfam”With a quarter of Britainà ¢Ãƒâ€šÃ¢â€š ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ¢â€ž ¢s population living below the national poverty line, and three million households in debt to door-to-door money lenders, life is bleak for many in this apparently affluent country. Poverty rose sharply during the last two decades, particularly in the 1980s.”

So apparently there is poverty in the UK .

Mj, I wasn’t repeating myself, she said she was dealing in “Facts”, so I asked her to provide them.
She wouldn’t provide them , so I said that’s ok, I didn’t really expect her to.
    That is not repeating myself.

ETA: And since the whole premise of the IDG show was poverty , and Simon was aghast at the poverty he saw , this is relevant to the show.

  • madaboutu

OK I might get deleted but wanted to find some perspective on the different countries and came up with these facts: UK pop. 59.8 million size 242,514 sq miles
Canada pop. 32,507,874 size 9,984,670 km

    U.S. pop 300,000,000 size 3,537, 438

    UK approx. size of Texas

My point being and not making any country better than the other, U.S. has a huge population to service. Not only that, as far as poverty here, there are many other circumstances often associated with poverty. The U.S. gives billions of dollars in relief to other countries but often, like in Africa, is not allowed to distribute it by the governments there. Some of that money could be used to relieve poverty in the U.S. In a perfect world.

This is so cool. I had hoped they would reach the 100K mark. What theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve done is really impressive, and I love the way he focused on one thing.

And wow – ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been a few days since Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve visited team plaid – you guys are doing a great job keeping it up to date!

Spense, I’m really proud of what HRwH has accomplished. Even if Ace does nothing else, he inspired a lot of people to give to a great cause. How many people can say that?

As for teamplaid, thanks! It helps that it’s a team effort. I doubt any of us could do it alone. Well, I should only speak for myself. :)

MJ really rocks for all she does here and I hope everyone has noticed the donate button on the main page.

PJ, I need to put that Ace thing on the front page. That’s fantastic.

If you go to Elliott’s My Space you’ll see where he’ll be on 5/23. Hint it has something to do with American Idol.

Thanks for the heads up, jpfan.

From a bulletin from the Blaker Girls’ Myspace (spokeswoman Kristi was at the shows this week. She’s the really pretty brunette you saw during the results show when they showed “Blake’s Friends” :) ):

next week’s performance should be AMAZING. he’s bringing back the beat-boxing and is very excited about his performance. this week’s theme is bon jovi, so it’ll be a good one.

  • pj

Sarah, this is the part of the myspace that caught my eye:

plus, blake hardly knows ANY top 40 type music, so every week heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s learning a song that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not very familiar with or has never heard before. blake isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t the best at remembering lyrics, especially since before idol when he performed on his own he used to improv ALL the time. sometimes he wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even write lyrics until 5 min before a performance. so, in short, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been concentrating really hard on his performances.

It makes so much sense that he’s used to improv! Of course, he hasn’t once flubbed the lyrics on Idol *coughBrandoncough* so I’ll give him props for that. Blake seems really interactive and I can’t wait to hear him Blakeize some Bon Jovi!

Brandon, I still love ya. Call me :)

mj-i just made a post that was sent to moder ation for whatever reasons. Please just deep six it. UGH.

    Oh, Dave, just share. :)

“Too bad the Idol telethon didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t highlight what some of the Idols are doing for charity. I know several of them are active and while it doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t compare to the millions, it still makes a difference.”

Thank you, “pj!” I think that would have been a wonderful thing to focus on – Elliot’s work for JDF, Ace and Children’s Hospital, Clay and UNICEF or Bubel/Aiken, Taylor’s charities — but that wouldn’t have allowed TPTB at 19 to look great. To me, the whole idea was to make AI look wonderful. You can donate to any of those charities and not involve AI. JMHO – At any rate, they raised a lot of money. Let’s hope it goes to those charities and makes a dent. I still think the work of individuals shines more than the big corporate push – but that’s just me.

One other thing I always love to focus on concernig Ace. He did his thing at Children’s Hospital long before there even was American Idol. That’s why he’s the real deal to me. HRwH was formed because of Ace’s fans’ desire to do something in his name. I understand that now that the 100K goal has been reached, Ace will be moving on to bigger charities, not just focusing on Denver. I’m sure that whatever he does, it will be successful.

Ugh……a shooting at a local high school gym around St. Louis…in Kirkwood, I believe (which is a suburb) Happened just about a half hour ago…..

  • RollTide

That’s wonderful that Ace and his friends have raised all that money. :)

Linny, it’s true. He did not wait for celebrity to do his thing… he did it before AI even existed. He also donates time, which is just as beneficial as money, if not more more so. He’s a great guy and I am waiting patiently to “celebrate” his CD.

    LOL, at “pj”. ;)

ETA: I didn’t donate at all to Idol. I donated to the Chicago Food Depository. I usually donate to them at tax return time. And I have a monthly donation going to HRwH.

    Oh, Steveo, that’s sad. :(

    Oh, Steveo, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sad. :(

I know…I’m flipping back and forth from my local stations to CNN to see if there are any updates….it’s not national yet, and they aren’t breaking into programming on the local channels….

Last thing they said was that several shots were fired inside and outside the school gym and that at least one person was dead…and that the police were frantically searching for the suspect…..this happened 1 hour ago now….

  • http://www.chris-sligh.info steve-o-meter

They just broke into Leno – still at least one person shot (no confirmed status of injuries)…it’s in Maryland Heights, MO (suburb of St. Louis) at Pattonville High School.

A dance competition was going on….several shots fired inside and outside….people went crazy running around…

Helicopters out trying to find the shooter/shooters…

Well…doesn’t sound like it’s major enough for national news…..

  • pj

    ((steveo))

    I’m glad if it’s contained.

But sad at the same time.

missgirl, I checked the applicable statutes and it appears that there is a 30-day grace period:

“Given a grace period of thirty (30) days from the date fixed for issuance or renewal in which to effect necessary repairs and successfully complete the emissions test for any motor vehicle which does not successfully complete an emissions test administered prior to the date fixed for issuance or renewal, and repairs necessary to pass such test cannot be effected prior to such date;”

    Check  §55-4-128, Emissions test grace period à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Waiver. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’
