Seven Mile Breakdown is one of the cool Southern rock songs Taylor has been performing for years with his friend from college – Wynn Christian — with whom Taylor shares a co-write. The CD sets Taylor as the lead with a backup singer (unidentified at this time) who melds well with Taylor’s whisky tenor voice. The guitar, drums, and other instruments take this song to a place that the casual follower of Taylor’s music has never heard him go before.

SMB will be a fantastic piece for Taylor to perform in concert. Good on the CD but off the charts in concert. Taylor is a dynamic performer and talented musician — he can turn a 3.50 minute song into a 7 minute performance that will have you dancing in the aisles and yelling yourself hoarse.

I’m a fan and am enjoying this new CD! Glad to see the sanctioned free download of Taylor’s new music. Check it out and enjoy!

Thanks for putting the news on your blog! ;)

I LOVE this song and it is absolutely one of my favorites on the entire CD. I can’t stop listening to it. This will tide me over until The Distance drops next Tuesday. Whee!

  • Easy

Excellent tune. Definitely one of the best on the album.

I also like New Found Freedom and The Distance (good guitar, fantastic voice, rocking songs totally unlike what’s current now.

Maybe You Should — you will be amazed and feel this song in your soul.

    Glad you liked SMB.

This is probably my favorite on the CD from the listen I was able to give it that day we could access the songs.

I’ve no idea what Glamour is talking about.

  • SpenserJ

    I like the song too.

  • abbysee

    It’s a great song.

  • ordinarygirl09

I tried to listen to the whole song but I just couldn’t, that was awful. Hopefully he’ll have a better song than that one.

Love this track, as it has a really cool rocking and driving guitar line!

    Definitely Southern Rock…

On the day we were able to listen to the entire CD, another one of my fave tracks is “Once Upon a Lover of Mine” and I cannot wait to get that onto my iPod!!!

  • dancingqueen

This is definitely one of my favorites from the CD. Less than a week until it’s in my hands.

I’m just amazed at how well Taylor’s single — WHAT’s RIGHT IS RIGHT is doing on the charts right now. It has moved back up to #23 on mediabase after being at #24 for a few days.

It has 140 spins this week, up 19 spins since last week. The Billboard charts which are released on Thursday’s are based on Wednesday’s numbers, so he will certainly be moving up from #26 where he has been for the past 2 weeks.

I honestly never expected that at all and am pleasantly surprised.

  • neonorange

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. This is my fav off the CD. Of course, I Will still buy the CD but glad to have this one in advance. I’ve had Joshua Radin on repeat the past few days and this is a good change up.

  • JOJOSIE

I can’t see Taylor name and not post. I did get this download so thanks MJ. I like this one and I have listened briefly to most of the rest of the songs and I like what I hear. I need to really get the CD and play it thru several times. I’ll need to buy at least 2 as it sounds like Walmart and Target will both have different extra songs. Love my Idols, but love Taylor the most.

I love this song! Taylor Hicks weaves a different tapestry with the variations in his voice. Reminds the listener of the southern Bayou with a newfound rhytmn and causes a swaying enjoyment for those who listen and follow the beat with their own involvment. It keeps playing in my head. Looking forward to buying the CD. Wish videos of his music were available to buy. What a voice! What an entertainer!

I like Taylor, so it’s nothing personal, but this kind of music is not what I go to when I listen to music. I know there are other songs on the album, from the snippets I’ve heard, that are more my thing. I downloaded this song but deleted it after listening to the whole thing twice; I had to listen twice because I forgot to listen the first time all the way through! It was nice and all, and I can definitely tell it’s Taylor’s taste, but it’s the melody itself that bores me. I don’t know if it’s southern rock, or country rock, or Mellencamp rock or bar band rock or good ol’ boy rock, but it bores the hell outta me.

But at least it sounds like something he would do so it’s cool and I have my eye on a few other songs of his that I’ll pay to download when they come up.

  • MaryS-NJ

Well, Amazon says I downloaded the song, but I can’t find it on my laptop. Grr… Oh well, I’ll be happy to buy the iTunes version next week.

  • thedingoateyobaby

That song is really really good. Its exactly the kind of song Taylor should be doing. I wont be skeptical at all of telling my friends to listen to this one. They will roll their eyes and humor me like they always do when it comes to Taylor but then they will say, not bad, not bad at all.

  • cheese

I’m not crazy about this song, but there are one or two I plan to download on Tuesday when the album comes out. I had slightly higher hopes for the CD, but at least their aren’t any disco songs on this one!

  • concettaz

I have a Mac, and the given link led me nowhere near a free download of this song.
After jumping around for about 20 minutes, I finally found this link, which worked for me:

Maybe this will help someone else!

    To MarySNJ–

Check in your window media files. It said on Amazon that the file would be sent to Windows Media or to an I-Tune folder.

As for me, I could even get the Amazon MP3 downloader to work on my computer. It’s too old for the downloader, I guess.

I just downloaded the song – love love love Taylor’s voice on this – will need a few more listens to see how I feel about the song, but so far so good.

Welcome back Taylor!!!!! Now if you would get do another concert tour to my part of the country……sigh!

Taylor is still one of my very fav American Idols.
