Fast overnight ratings from Marc Berman:

-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox rose to a rare Thursday victory, with another edition of American Idol at a healthy 24.27 million viewers and a 9.1 rating/25 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. While that is actually below average for Idol, it was a major improvement for Fox in the hour. And it lifted the season-premiere of lead-out Hellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Kitchen to a second-place finish in both total viewers (11.08 million) and adults 18-49 (4.9/12) at 9 p.m. Once again, American Idol was by far the top-rated show of the evening. Next week, relocated Bones returns to the Thursday anchor spot.

24.27 isn’t bad for a Thursday night. Generally Thursday night Idol shows tend to be lower-rated than the regularly scheduled Tuesday/Wednesday shows.

Being number one for the night would be great if almost all the other network shows weren’t broadcasting reruns last night in preparation for Feb sweeps.

I was just going to say that. Almost every other show was in repeats last night. Normally I have a problem of having too many Thursday night shows to watch and not enough time, but last night Idol was just about the only thing that was new.

I wondered if Thursday would have the highest ratings of the week since it was the auditions for two cities. Interesting to me that the Salt Lake auditions were the highest rated this week.

I actually haven’t watched the auditions since the first week. I’m a bit excited, however, to see Hollywood Week. I may lose my excitement afterwords, However. I don’t watch very much TV and am still unsure why I watch Idol.

Interesting to me that the Salt Lake auditions were the highest rated this week.

Idol has stiff competition on Tuesdays from NCIS and the Mentalist. Wednesdays aren’t as competitive–hence Wednesday ratings have been higher all three weeks of the season, so far.

Plus, there was that Kelly Clarkson sneak peek that was pretty heavily advertised. I expected Wednesday’s ratings to be higher.

    Me too, MJ.

edit: sorry, that’s way off-topic in this thread. try the headlines thread…thanks

I actually didn’t know that Idol was on Thursday–missed that fact somehow–but figured it out when my Tivo kicked on. I’m so used to it being on Tuesdays and Wednesdays that it didn’t occur to me that they would run three in a row.
