The Voice has given The X Factor a run for it’s money this season. In its second season, X Factor has still fallen short of Simon Cowell’s 2o million viewer prediction, but nevertheless, FOX has enough faith in the competition reality show to bring it back for another season.

Also, a special results show will air on Sunday, November 4 8:00-10:00 pm ET.

FOX has ordered a third season of THE X FACTOR, it was announced today by Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“I couldn’t be happier about THE X FACTOR already being renewed for another season,” said Simon Cowell. “I am so proud of the show and the team who have made it this season. I want to thank our incredible sponsors for their support and creativity, and FOX for going out of their way to do everything they can to make this show a success. Most importantly, I have to personally thank our amazing fans for the support and enthusiasm they have given to THE X FACTOR. Our main commitment will always be to find great talent, and let’s not forget, we are now days away from our first live shows. The gloves are off! Expect fireworks!”

“This season, Simon and the producers of THE X FACTOR took an already strong show and made it absolutely fantastic. The format changes are working, the contestants are unbelievably talented, and Britney and Demi – alongside Simon and L.A – have brought an incredibly fun new chemistry to the judges’ panel that our fans really love,” said Darnell. “We feel great about the show and I’m thrilled to bring it back next year for Season Three.”

“We’re absolutely thrilled that THE X FACTOR will be returning to FOX for a third hit season,” said Trish Kinane, President of Entertainment Programming at FremantleMedia North America. “We’ve seen an incredible range of talent so far and we’re getting set for some truly blockbuster live shows this season that viewers will love. THE X FACTOR has really come into its own this year, finding its unique place and cementing its position as one of the leading talent shows in the entertainment landscape, as well as showing clear potential to build into a brand with true longevity. We’re looking forward to working with the fantastic teams at FOX and Syco, along with our sponsors, to build upon the show’s success.”

Season to date, THE X FACTOR is averaging a 3.9 rating among Adults 18-49 and 10.6 million Total Viewers and is a Top 15 show this fall among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. In addition, THE X FACTOR is a Top 5 entertainment program among Teens this season.

THE X FACTOR continues to break social TV records with the most fan engagement of any series on television and three times the social activity of its genre competitors. Each episode consistently achieves more Twitter trending topics than the competition. The second season premiere of THE X FACTOR shattered the record for a series premiere, garnering 1.4 million social comments, according to Bluefin Labs.

Following schedule changes due to the rain-delayed MLB NLCS game last week, on Tuesday, Oct. 23, the highly anticipated conclusion of the “Judges’ Homes” round of THE X FACTOR will air at a special time from 9:30-10:30 PM ET/PT on FOX. Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, L.A. Reid and Britney Spears will reveal the 16 acts among the Teens, Young Adults, Groups and Over 25s categories that will continue in the competition.

Next week, the Top 16 acts will perform on a special LIVE two-and-a-half hour show, hosted by Khloé Kardashian Odom and Mario Lopez, on Thursday, Nov. 1 (8:00-10:30 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed). THE X FACTOR live shows continue on a special night on Sunday, Nov. 4 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) with additional performances and the announcement of the Season Two finalists.

THE X FACTOR was created by Syco Television and is produced by Syco Television and FremantleMedia North America. Rob Wade and Nigel Hall are executive producers for Syco Television. Trish Kinane, Richard Holloway and Andrew Llinares serve as executive producers for FremantleMedia North America. “Like” THE X FACTOR on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TheXFactorUSA. If it continues to drop in the ratings, I think Season 3 will be the last season. I wonder what Simon will do next year to try to bring up the ratings? I can see Britney leaving, she looks almost as uncomfortable as Ellen did on idol.

    Expected.

Is anyone else laughing at Examiner? LOL. They failed with the spoilers, and now this.

This year’s “ratings drops” have resulted in the show sitting comfortably in the top 25 shows of the season in terms of the key demo rating for both Wednesday and Thursday episodes, and Wednesdays episodes are always in the top 25 for total viewers.  I don’t think that the Wednesday episodes have ever fallen out of the top 15 for the week.  So the show is doing fine.

I’m still wondering about FOX’s contingency plan should the World Series go seven games. I realize it would be 2 1/2 hours. But will we have the performances and eliminations all on the same night?

They would probably do it like last year and judges decide who goes from their own category.

Wonder if judges will change again.so far don’t think Brits added $15 million of value though her faces are priceless. Will they give yet another $5 million prize if no superstar has been launched. . For Tues show, my DirecTV listings show Mario Lopez & khloe kardashian Odom..dint know if mistake or they prerecorded something at end, saying we’ll join you next week. First week will be bloodbath when each judge (producer) cuts one. Wish they’d have a wild card where viewers would vote to bring back one of the eliminated four. Get viewers more involved. Wish they’d also do what UK dies where everyone predicts who will win..great tovhacw an extra factor live show..lived when I’ve seen that live and audiencertalks to judges live & end of season we see when judges voted out people with higher scores..would be another way to differentiate from either shows

Wonder how many millions Simon will be spreading around next season.   I would say it is good for the economy, but the people who are getting all this dough don’t really need it.

Ha.  I can almost hear Cowell sighing in relief! Don’t think Fox had better options on its sleeves though, it is still gets decent ratings considering that it’s cheaper to produce a reality show than a sitcom.  And with Idol ratings having declined last season and seemingly a bit uncertain of what will happen next season, I guess it still makes sense to keep both bets on the table. But I do not think X Factor is out of the woods yet, I believe Fox will at some point choose one or another.

I REALLY want to like X Factor, as it offers a plataform for alternative singing acts such as rappers and groups.  I do not even mind the young kids, in my mind it’s the parents’ job to judge whether their kids can cope with the pressure or not.  Everybody gets frustrated with being voted off, including adults.  The kids just have to be prepared for it. As one mother said on one of the episodes, nobody is promising they will win.  As a matter of fact, they are more likely to lose than win.  I also like they try to focus the “whole package” from the beginning, even if in detriment of pure vocal ability.  Having the big audition early on helps to root out talented candidates who lack charisma, stage presence, minimal dancing ability .. it takes to be a full fledged global STAR.  I think in terms of the talent they selected, they did a good job.  None of the candidates are ready, but a few have the potential to become big.  Specifically this year, I actually commend the judges.  I like how the panel interact, and I am very impressed with the mentoring they provided the kids.  I liked that Demi told Jennel about flipping her hair, Cece about not being likable, and the other girl abou weird faces while singing.  Those were right on the money IMO, and are constructive enough for them to take home and work on it.  Also like that Simon told the 3 sisters about being stand-offish… could not put better myself, for a reason those 3 reminds me of Paris Hilton. So, cookies points for XF for the judging panel.

What I dislike: 1) I do not get the format.  This mentoring vs. judging makes no sense to me.  Still think should be one or another, how’s one supposed to criticize the act they mentored? 2) The categories are nonsensical to me.  It should be about the most talented, no matter age/gender.  I feel that there will always be categories with more talent than others and mentors upset they got doomed with the worst group of candidates.  Why they don’t allow judges to pick contestants individually to form their team? That would spread talent accross more evenly plus allow mentors to work with whom the really think are worthy and can help better 3) What’s up with the drama? Personally, I agree that LA got doomed with the worst category.  That said, no excuse to spend time showing him fakedly slamming the phone… too much drama… 4) The experience of the judges is uneven. It’s different to be an old record executive (Simon, LA) vs. a young(ish) performer (Brit, Demi).  Maybe they should double team … I think it would be far more beneficial to the contestants to have directions from both sides AT THE SAME TIME. 4) Not sure XF can get the voters they want, IMO they are getting the same ones as Idol, which is the wrong public for the type of acts they want to promote.  Mid-america might think some legitimate acts too racy to deserve their votes, they’ll keep looking for the closest thing to good, white, religious boy or something more like girl next door… Mid America would never vote for Gaga or Rihanna.  nuff said…

Jury’s still out… I guess final judgement just got postponed for a year.

The show seems like a theater production than an actual singing competition. Once they cut out all the extras, it might get more ratings.

Sunday night is a BAD night to put a result show…the competition is brutal with SNF, The Walking Dead, Dexter, Homeland, Revenge, Amazing Race and The Good Wife.
