Watch the new music video from Florence + the Machine. “What the Water Gave Me” is the anthemic 1st single from the band’s upcoming album. The not-yet-titled disc is set to hit stored in the UK on November 7. It will be relesed in the US shortly thereafter.

What do you think? I love the way this solemn tune transforms into full-throated gospel. In the video, Florence works in the studio (Abby Road) laboring over some lyrics, but eventually, the creative muses come together, and the images and music burst into a joyful cacophony. Loves it.

Watch!

    Thanks for posting MJ.

I love Florence and cannot wait for the next album.

Love this new single – it starts out a bit Enyaesque, but builds brilliantly.

Yay! So excited for some of the new music coming out this fall!

    Good stuff!

    and we care about this…why?

Because Florence is the best thing that happened to music in the last few years? Idols only wish their music was that good, and I’m saying it as a hardcore glambert.

ETA: or what chili100o said. (I’m biased, so.)

    and we care about this…why?

Every generation a handful of artists come along whose music and overall body of work will stand the test of time. Florence Welch is one for this generation. She is a musical genius and artists 30-40 years from now will be talking about how they were influenced by her.

Sounds sort of like a sequel to Cosmic Love? Seems lighter than songs on Lungs, like they went easier on drums. It’s going to sound great blasting through my car speakers!

    Awesome !!!

This. I’m like, why is this post on here? What does it have to do with Idol? Is mj hoping that they cover it (and possibly ruin it) on glee? I don’t understand.

    Love, love, love this.

Ehhh. :/ I get the appeal, the music is awesome, but I’m not impressed by her range AT ALL. I’ve seen 3 live tv performances and she was HELLA flat, embarassingly off when she gets high and throaty. Not just a couple of notes, but throughout entire verses.

Glee covered their big hit “Dog Days Are Over” – that’s probably the connection you are looking for.

I find DDAO highly grating & annoying, probably because it was completely overplayed on the radio, plus it’s quite repetitive. I like this new song much better. But I agree with the posters above me that their music overall is artistic, original, and will be influential.

Yeah, I’m with you here. She usually doesn’t sound good live when I have caught her on tv. I have Lungs, hardly ever play it. Not liking the new song either. I think at first I thought it was something interesting and then realized, nah just not my thing.

I think MJ is diversifying the blog. I think that’s a good idea. There are many times that much isn’t happening with Idol/SYTYCD/The Voice or whatever talent show. So it’s nice to talk about music in general. It allows for more of us to be included in the discussion.

I know that. That’s why I mentioned glee in the first place.

I do scroll by. I scroll by wondering what does this have to do with Idol or glee.
