The song change is very mysterious, since the two songs aren’t all that different. I can’t believe DC has 3 ballads.

The Switchfoot song should (hopefully) go down really well. It’s not quite as difficult a song as Innocent was, but I’m not sure about Cook in his lower register… but it’s a song that builds to a great finish, and that’s his style. Switchfoot is a Christian band, so this is a pretty wise choice for Cook. (tapping into Castro’s Christian fanbase a bit, maybe?)
I wasn’t going to watch tonight, since all my horses are now gone, but I might tune in to see how this plays out. David A. singing Chris Brown should be interesting.

Gag on the Aerosmith song. I hate it so so so so much. I’m sure David will do a fine job with it, but ugh. Stupid producers. You would think by now I’d know to have lower expectations, but nope…I’m disappointed.

The Switchfoot song is pretty but their singer’s voice is a lot higher-pitched sounding than David’s, so I can’t really imagine how Cookie will sound on it. Interesting about the change, hmm.

I was slightly upset about Aerosmith at first too, but I think DC will probably rearrange the hell out of that song, and the lyrics really are quite pretty under all the bells and whistles of the original. If he strips it down, it could be awesome. I don’t see this producer choice as trying to sink him AT ALL.

I have a bad feeling DC will sing Aerosmith straight. Ugh. And the Switchfoot song, too. UGH. Rearranging the hell out of 3 songs in a week is tough, so I’ll forgive him if he sings it all straight, but I will be very disappointed nonetheless. Really, the only upside to that Aerosmith hit is the huge portion of the adult swing vote he’ll get from it.

I hope Mindy didn’t start a trend of the last person to go on Top 3 night being the one sent home.

I do agree with that, but I don’t think IDWMAT is a song choice meant to sandbag DC, which is what I’ve been dreading from the producers. I think if he changes it up, strips it down and makes it more about content than embellishment, he could score major points with that. Also, the fact that it’s so familiar could very well draw in the casual viewer, IF he doesn’t get “kareoke” slapped in his face (and I don’t think he will. Knock on wood).

It was very popular here too, Preston. I had no idea they were considered Christian rock, so mj’s comment (I think it was her) in the other thread calling them God rock left me wondering if I was thinking of the right song. LOL

Anyway, I think David will do great with it.

Switchfoot is a huge band….and not just for Christian audiences. In fact, they just released a new single on Radio Disney for the new Prince Caspian movie. Dare You to Move is a great song. I think DC will do well on it. And if he is playing strategy, a good move to capture some of the fans that might’ve gone for Jason or Brooke.

Aerosmith? Not so much. Ick.

Leave it to Nigel to pick one of the most overplayed songs of the last 10 years for Cookie. Just, UGH.

Two of those ballads are rock ballads, which is what DC has shined best on all throughout the season (it was always the harder rocking songs that got him lukewarm comments).

Melinda (T3) and Anthony Fed (T4) are the only people to ever get booted after the pimp spot in a non-finale episode. The pimp spot is a good thing.

Hmm… the comments are making me a bit nervous, as does the thought of Cook “Rocking” Yo’Face. But I did think earlier that to be truly Cookie, He would rock the ballad and strip the rock anthem (Aerosmith – though I do realize it’s also a ballad). I just hope Simon takes it well. Hee.

1. Archuleta: nice a capella, but why didn’t he play the piano? A bit boring, which is not surprising since he doesn’t know what the lyrics mean. Best part was when Simon told off the annoying waving hand girls.

Hi, everyone: Well, you’re all watching the show now, so you’ll see what everyone says. Rehearsal did go by very fast. Each song is short, and they’re cramming nine songs into an hour. The songs were so short, I don’t think any of them were outstanding. But I don’t trust my read on things anymore. The audience loved Archie and Cook best. I thought Cook had the best songs. Syesha’s songs were too showy; she should have thrown in a ballad to connect with the audience. I’ll be interested to hear what y’all think. I’ll be in chat if anyone has questions.

2. Syesha: Ok, she has a nice voice, but seriously, an Alicia Keyes song? Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s freaking Alicia Keyes. She has power. She has spirit. She has ridiculous animation. You can have a nice voice, but you canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t top Alicia. Not her fault, but it is what it is.

3. David Freaking Cook. Beautiful. Immaculate. I’m talking about his voice. He knows what those lyrics mean. He feels it.

4. Archuleta: Ok, so I’m a Cook fan, so admittedly I’m biased. I’m trying to objective here. It was a good song choice. He was being young. He even had an edge in his eyes. However, Chris Brown sings it much smoother, better, with more heart. Since it’s such a recent song, the comparison has to happen. Sorry. But I will be nice and say that at least he didn’t pick another ballad, and at least he said “my boo” and “little figure.” You know his dad is going to yell at him, so I don’t want to be too mean.

5. Syesha was ok. But nothing spectacular except for her last notes. Those were nice.

6. David Cook: I thought it was pretty good. I hate that the song is too short, but I thought he brought some passion back that was missing from the last two weeks.

7. Archuleta: Uh…kind of stopped paying attention. I guess it’s not his fault he gets elevator music. I don’t know, if he played the piano with it or something, it would give it some oomph.

8. Syesha: Poor her. She sings nicely. She smiles. It’s not her fault they give her a non-American Idol type song as the last one. Oh well.
