The Final 2 is here.   You know the drill.   Bring your spoilers, and if they are credible, I’ll post ‘em. thanks to Kirsten, Idol Maniac and Idol Forums for invaluable assistance…

I’ve already got some things I’ll be posting throughout the morning, so watch this space…

******

Paula Abdul will appear on the show tonight with a broken nose, but by now, that’s hardly a spoiler.   I wonder what kind of bandage she’ll be wearing?   And according to some internet rumors, Blake Lewis is back to being blonde…

Song Choices (Winner Single, New Song, Reprise)

Jordin Sparks

  • A Broken Wing by Martina McBride
  • Fighter by Christina Aguilera
  • Â  ”This is My Now” written by Jeff Peabody and Scott Krippayne

Blake Lewis

  • She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5
  • You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi
  • Â  ”This is My Now” written by Jeff Peabody and Scott Krippayne

There will be one coronation song–the winning single of the Idol Songwriter’s contest, performed by both Blake and Jordin.

Chris Daughtry appears tonight to sing this year’s elimination song, “Home.”

Spoilers for tomorrow’s Finale–including some juicy insider information on tomorrow night’s coronation song–after the jump…

Idol Guest Performers for the Finale:

  • Kelly Clarkson – may sing solo (“Never Again”) and duet
  • Carrie Underwood
  • Taylor Hicks - Will sing his new single, “Heaven Knows”

Songs from the Beatles catalog have been made available for tomorrow’s show.   More on that as details arrive…

Rumors:

  • According to MTV  Doug E. Fresh is in negotiations with Idol to appear on tomorrow’s show.   His appearance has not been confirmed.
  • There will be no hometown parties.   The original plan was to have them, but the producers thought otherwise and cancelled them.
  • According to Perez Hilton, there is buzz around Hollywood that Britney Spears will appear on the Finale.   Hello trainwreck!
  • I’m pulling this from comments.   The NY Post reports that the winners of the songwriting contest are two men.   Americanidol.com has songwriter bios  posted for all 20 contestants.   The forum at Spinme.com (I’ll be posting something on the songwriter’s contest later…)  has supposed insiders  who claim “This is My Now” written by Jeff Peabody and Scott Krippayne as the winning song.   You can listen to it at the bios link.   The LA Times confirms  ”This Is My Now” as the confirmation song… thanks marys

MJ, someone here mentioned that the local LA news was reporting that Blake is singing She Will Be Loved, You Give Love A Bad Name, and a ballad. Jordin is singing Fighter, Broken Wing, and the same ballad.

There are also LA reports that Miles, the stylist, said Blake upped the crazy with his outfits this week – this was during a press conference but I only read about it at TWoP. The Chrises also reported that Blake has some “amazing” things planned this week. Also, Blake’s a blonde again.

Finally, I read on IDF that Melinda will be dueting with the Winans sisters. Blake has Doug E. Fresh plus something with Kat. Smoky Robinson will be medley-ing with the top 6 guys. Gladys Knight with the top 6 girls. Joe Perry accompanying them all on a Beatles medley.

  • http://www.graycharles.com/ graycharles

Picture this, three people on stage sitting on “The stool of sincerity” the lights go up to reveal.

Taylor Hicks / Ray LaMontagne / Chris Sligh

singing “Trouble”. At the end, Taylor and Chris solemnly walk off stage while Ray goofs it up with Paula.

  • Giggy

Forget the Jordin pimping, with all the media I’ve read lately, this girl is being GROOMED to be the next American Idol.

Geez, I don’t even care anymore. Just get on with it already. Give me a good show, please. Just give me a good show.

Honestly, at this point, I’m cheering both these two on because they’ve worked hard all these weeks to get there though I’m leaning towards Blake because I like his style. I think he sings Adam Levine better live than Adam does most of the time. Just my opinion.

However, if Jordin knocks ‘Fighter’ out of the park, it will give me pause to consider. We shall see.

  • sarahinwv

wow… “Fighter”… tough song , indeed !! Okay, Blake is on a Maroon 5 kick… and hi Gray, sir.

  • taran33

Fighter, if she does well with this one she’s the winner. Blake back to blonde? Good it suits him better. It’s going to be a great show. Taylor and Ray…perfect. Hope so Gray. Nice to see you around.

  • PrplDva

    ((((gray))))

  • Stefunny

I read on IDF that Melinda will be dueting with the Winans sisters.

I read that too although BeBe and CeCe Winans are brother and sister. Just FYI.

  • LB2

Shows how little I know about the Winans. LOL – sorry about that.

  • patay

    Gray is here!!!
Ray LaMontagne on Idol–don’t see it happening.
Would LOVE to know what and if Taylor will be signing.
Maybe he will just play the harp while Blake beat-boxes—I think those two would be great together.

  • SODF

I would pay to see Ray LaMontagne talk to Paula.

Ray is all about the fun.

  • Kirsten

Ray is all about the fun.

LOL. Gray almost had me going until that last bit. Great musician, but a little on the taciturn side. I’m not seeing the Paula chit-chat.

Jordin is definitely throwing down the guantlet with “Fighter”. I hope she nails it. I love it when the competition is a competition.

    Go Blake! Go Jordin!

Any hints on to performance order for the songs (surely, they won’t have the same song sung back-to-back). I’ve seen at a few sites that people are going to the rehearsals this afternoon and promise to report back. Can’t wait.

I bet Nigel wants to start the show off with a big bang with YGLABN. He’ll probably push for that.

  • sarahinwv

Kirsten, I may be wrong (WHAT ??).. but I think they did a coin toss and Blake chose heads and he won the toss but told Jordin she could be first… gentleman-like .

  • sarahinwv

wait wait wait… he said he would go first… oh, hell.. I don’t know !!!

  • http://www.graycharles.com/ graycharles

Kirsten, obviously your pipeline to the memos has dried up. A friend of mine was reading a message board where someone who works on the show said that a writer friend of hers was writing some “witty banter” to be exchanged between Paula and “The Performer”

    Her setup was this:

The Performer: Bearded, serious. Must keep syllables to a minimum, reference pain, struggle, redemption, local lobster jokes a plus!

Paula: Profess love, connection, feeling. All standard – we’ve got this down.

  • Kirsten

Kirsten, I may be wrong (WHAT ??).. but I think they did a coin toss and Blake chose heads and he won the toss but told Jordin she could be firstà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ gentleman-like .

Sarah, you are correct. Blake did win the toss and did end up deciding to go first (because Jordin wanted to go last).

I was wondering in which order they would perform the song. It can make a difference in perception. If you can get rid of your weakest song early and end on a strong note, it gives a better impression than the opposite. Plus, if you can, throw your weaker song against your competitors best song (especially early on in the night). That way, you let them win a “round” but you have a better chance of winning another “round”. Like throwing down a low card in bridge when you know the other guys have the ace. I’ve heard rumours that contestants in the past have decided to switch their song order for exactly that reason.

  • Kirsten

Kirsten, obviously your pipeline to the memos has dried up.

They had to sedate Clive after Melinda got voted off.

The Performer: Bearded, serious. Must keep syllables to a minimum, reference pain, struggle, redemption, local lobster jokes a plus!

Paula: Profess love, connection, feeling. All standard – weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve got this down.

OMG. That does sound like Ray. Could be fun. I hope your speculation is true.

  • MaryS-NJ

MJ, that article Lisa B links to about the Songwriters’ competition has a further link to a message board at SpinMe.com.

There’s an interesting discussion about the AI songwriting contest which is quite deliciously knollish, and an alleged insider “rumor” for the winning song:This Is My Now“, by Scott Krippayne who has apparently written a number of top hits on the Christian Contemporary charts.

  • pj

Kirsten, I’m hoping Blake gets the “beautiful ballad” out of the way in the first round. I agree with your logic.

I’m so excited for tonight. :)

  • http://www.graycharles.com/ graycharles

Well, if Scott’s the guy I, for one, am thrilled.

I mean, read this article about Scott and tell me it doesn’t just rip at your heart.

“Renà ©e,” a pensive poem-of-a-song that began in a Starbucks in Los Angeles after a brief encounter with actress Renà ©e Zellweger, is Scott’s attempt to explore the reality behind the myth of fame. “I just started thinking about what life must really be like for her,” Scott muses. “She’s got to have struggles, and you know at some point she’s got to just want to go home and be herselfà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦” If you listen carefully, you’ll hear the acoustic piano squeak along, echoing the humanity behind such a glamorous life.

Song’s about “the reality behind the myth of fame” are my favorite genre. The fact that inspiration can strike at Starbucks adds an extra does of poignancy to the already strong triple latte of emotion don’t you think?

  • Kirsten

Scott Krippayne who has apparently written a number of top hits on the Christian Contemporary charts

Wasn’t this a contest for amatures? Will Britney be a contestant next year? LOL. Oh well.

Okay, I’ll keep this post on topic…

The New York Post is reporting that the winning song was written by two men: http://www.nypost.com/seven/05222007/tv/the_last_song_tv_michael_starr.htm

American Idol now has the bios up of the people who wrote the songs: http://www.americanidol.com/songwriter/index.xhtml

The following songs fit that criteria:
“You Never Gave Up on Me”
    “This is My Now”
    “Send Me On My Way”
    “Waking in a Dream”
    “The Next Big Thing”
    “Secrets and Lies”

Sounds like “This is My Now” is it. That song and “One Night” was getting all the buzz. A lot of Blake fans think that this song is a good fit for him, so this sounds like excellent news for Blake.

BTW You can play the songs at that link I posted.

  • mnsoul

Now I’m really intrigued. Scott’s writing the song? I know several of his works. Typically sincere and conversational – not over poetic. He can sing too. His music has been on Christian radio a long time. Not an amateur songwriter like I was expecting.

    (guten tag Gray!)

Songà ¢Ãƒâ€šÃ¢â€š ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ¢â€ž ¢s about à ¢Ãƒâ€šÃ¢â€š ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ…“the reality behind the myth of fameà ¢Ãƒâ€šÃ¢â€š ¬Ãƒâ€š are my favorite genre. The only thing missing is the angst- if only she’d tripped over her dog and broken her nose the song would be perfect!

  • andi

I hope Scott’s the guy too!!! I can’t wait for tonight! But, I’m agreeing that Blake should get this song out of the way first. Then finish strong.

    GO BLAKE!!!!!

    Hi Gray! I’ve missed you!

  • mnsoul

I’m just hoping for two (rather three) things tonight…

    - a pink lace nose brace

    - a Ray L and Britney duet

    - no one dueting with the dead

  • calimari

I think Triple Latte of Emotion is a great name for an AI song….nice to see you Gray.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

The song writing stuff is definitely post worthy. Thanks for the heads up MaryS.

I’m not surprised that the songwriters aren’t amatures

  • omphalos

Picture this, three people on stage sitting on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The stool of sincerityà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Yes, I enjoy the mental image of those 3 menfolk piled on top of each other on a stage stool like sticky frogs.

What’s this I hear about Jordin duetting with Paula on “With a Broken Nose”?

  • Kirsten

    Confirmed Guest Rumour.

Nigel said in this interview that Peter Noone will be back to do a Medley of Herman Hermit hits:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YD5seY1ARFE

He also said that there has been no clear winner this year. Votes seem to be performance based. In past years, there is generally somebody who was a clear winner of votes. Top vote getter has been traded off.

There is also going to be a big surprise guest. But it may be a group

  • MaryS-NJ

My pleasure, MJ. I meant to post that board link where the “rumor” is mentioned: http://spinme.com/bb/topic/178/page/29

I want to add that “This Is My Now” was co-written by Jeff Peabody according to the AI website bios.

Anyway, this wasn’t my absolute favorite of the Top 20, but definately one of them, and one of the better songs in general, and I think pretty popular with the voting public from the comments I read here and elsewhere.

I guess it’s not surprising that the AI PTB didn’t go with a real amateur. They are pretty risk-averse, I think.

  • star

Oh, I hope “This Is My Now” is the winning song. That’s one of the few I actually liked, and I rated it high because I thought it would be a good fit for Blake. Someone actually made a Blake fanvid using the song, if anyone didn’t get the chance to hear it before:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRVENs1EK-g

Also, rumor has it Blake is really good on “She Will Be Loved”…one person that’s heard him sing it before said that he almost moved her to tears.

I’m excited to hear Jordin sing “Fighter” – I’m really glad she picked that song!

  • radname

I hope the surprise guest is EW&F

  • Lisa B

I hope the surprise guest is EW&F

    Good one Rad.

  • RollTide

I cannot WAIT to hear Blake sing SWBL. It is going to be amazing. I’m so excited about tonight. :)

  • MaryS-NJ

and I rated it high because I thought it would be a good fit for Blake.

Yeah, if true, this is a gift to Blake (Maybe the Blaker girls were heavily represented in the voting, heh). I can hear him sing it, sort of. I can’t really hear Jordin sing it as well.

  • sarahinwv

mnsoul……… – no one dueting with the dead ( hahahaha ) hey…. only wishful thinking …. Tina Turner w/ Melinda .. coooool and hot !!

  • SODF

Kirsten, I love the song titles you’ve highlighted. That’s titles, not songs.

“This is My Now”? DJs are going to have a field day with that.

Kirsten, your song choice analysis is great. Having both finalists sing the same coronation single creates extra stategy issues. I wonder if either of them will choose to finish with the coronation song? You’d think they’d want to avoid that………

  • mnsoul

There’s been some crazy remixes of She Will Be Loved on itunes. Check it out. Even a bluegrass version (it’s actually sort of good)!

Here’s a dance version. Think Blake will go this route???

    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=201773483&s=143441&i=201773774

Hope Jordan doesn’t do that awkward stomping motion when she does “Fighter”. For some reason I smell a shouty redux of “She works hard for the money”.

  • pj

Yeah, if true, this is a gift to Blake (Maybe the Blaker girls were heavily represented in the voting, heh). I can hear him sing it, sort of. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really hear Jordin sing it as well.

I don’t particularly like the song, but I think both of them can do it justice.

  • eyin

This should be an interesting finale. Good song choices! (Of course, coronation single not included).

Maroon 5 back to back? Wow. You go Blake.

Speaking of Maroon 5, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long is on shelves today and the CD is absolutely great.

  • Kirsten

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“This is My Nowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ? DJs are going to have a field day with that.

Have you listened to it? The lyrics are a scream.

“This is my now! And I’m breathing in the moment!”

Good. Because if only breath in the past, you die.

  • jersey

I just listened to “This is My Now”. Thanks for that link star. That’s they best they’ve got? I couldn’t bear to listen to them myself.

Do you think they have a choice of which song to do last? Don’t you think that AI will make them each do the coronation song last?

  • Lisa B

Good. Because if only breath in the past, you die.

Lol, it’s a real cheese fest can’t wait.

  • MaryS-NJ

Good. Because if only breath in the past, you die.

    :lol_wp:

    Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s they best theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve got? I couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t bear to listen to them myself.

I kinda liked “Secrets and Lies”, but it wasn’t coronation-esque. “This Is My Now” is (IMO) one of the better songs of the 20. I know that’s not saying much.

  • rher

Gaffaw gray! Thank you for all that frothy bit. The visuals of SK penning that song on a Starbucks napkin while slurping a frap is just downright hilarious.

  • ealbino

Fighter by Christina is a horrible song.. she might have just handed Blake the crown with that pick!

  • jersey

I wonder if Jordin will do the little speaking part at the beginning of the song. Whenever I hear the song “Fighter”, it reminds me of doing bicep curls. LOL – gym song.

  • ParkAvenue

Wow, Blake’s doing another Maroon 5 huh. I was hoping he’d do an Imogen Heap number but She Will Be Loved is also perfect for him.

  • Ladybug

Re: Renee/Scott – She had him at venti soy latte.

Re: Britney on finale – OK, some of you are just trying to scare us, now, no?

Re: Coronation song – Title is definitely appropriately cheesy. Good!

Re: Beatle song approval – I smell a medley

Re: Ray/Taylor/Chris – Oh please make it so!

Re: Pauler’s nose – I want a big, white, honking bandage!!!

  • Lisa B

Do they make ‘Bratz’ plasters, she could do promo at the same time.

  • highhopes

Just in! Katharine McPhee got a last minute call to perform at the idol finale. She will be performing her single “Open Toes”, but in honor of Paula, has made some adjustments to the lyrics. ;)

    Jeans all black
    Hair slicked back
    Baseball cap
Still cute with my broken nose
    Mini skirt
    Feet don’t hurt
    Just a flirt
Too cute with my broken nose
    Work or play
    Night or day
    Do my thing
Too cute with my broken nose
I’ll still go out with my broken nose
A pink bandaid on my broken nose

  • cheese

LOL highhopes. I actually woke up humming “too cute with my broken nose” this morning, too. “Nothing is better than spending my treasure on pills for meeeeee!!!”

If Pauler looks too ugly to go on teevee, I hope they can get MC Skat Kat.

  • jersey

I saw a picture of Paula this morning, post broken nose. She had no bandages, (boo) but she was wearing a ton of foundation. (To cover the black and blue I assume)

  • DG

They just played Heaven Knows on the station I listen to at work. It was introduced as Taylor’s next single and that he would be performing it on AI. :biggrin_wp:

  • http://www.AuthorsTeam.com maheshg

I was hoping for a better coronation song this year– but they want that emotional moment where the song fits what the singer is feeling.

I don’t think it works that way most of the time.

Seems like Kelly got the two best and everything else has been schlock.

BTW, Tamyra shouldn’t be writing lyrics.

This would be so much better if they just picked a great song and didn’t pay attention to the coronation factor.

  • griz

They just played Heaven Knows on the station I listen to at work. It was introduced as Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s next single and that he would be performing it on AI.

Was that WTVR in Richmond? Great song for the finale! Taylor will blow the roof off the joint.

  • MaryS-NJ

They just played Heaven Knows on the station I listen to at work. It was introduced as Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s next single and that he would be performing it on AI.

Am I allowed to squee? It is on-topic, right? :thumbup_tb:

    Thanks for the info DG!

  • va_girl2468

    I hope Blake wins!

  • DG

Is was Lite 98. I think that is their call letters. Also got an email from Kat. She said the record company had pulled the other one (JTFTW?) and had released Heaven Knows.

  • griz

Thanks DG!! Boy, now I’m REALLY getting excited for Wed Night! Should be an awesome show! :jittery_tb:

  • SODF

    Kirsten: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“This is my now! And Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m breathing in the moment!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Good. Because if only breath in the past, you die.”

    :lol_wp:

Just listened to the full song. Amazing. The song is big on time issues. E.g., “I am made of more than my yesterdays….” You don’t say.

    Lisa B: “Lol, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a real cheese fest canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t wait.”

This thing makes DIMYP sound self-lacerating by comparison.

  • bamatt

If the song chosen is indeed “This is my now”, hmmm, it’s not WOW amazing but it’s probably the best idol winner song they have ever used & I think Blake can totally bring it home : )

  • sarahinwv

DG … DG !!!! OMG thanks.. I needed that ..I have to go listen to the lyrics again !!! They are sooooo appropriate !! yippee !!!

  • DG

Got another email from Kat at Lite 98 asking if I had heard the song before? I told her she really needed to get the cd. Also asked if she had any other information about Taylor’s performance. If I hear anything I will let you all know.

  • emeralgem

    I kinda liked à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Secrets and Liesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , but it wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t coronation-esque.

Hello everyone. I didn’t realize this thread existed, I’ve been posting on another one..

  • sarahinwv

I tell you what, though… breaking you nose right before one of biggest nights on TV has really gotta suck !!! I feel for the poor ‘ol gal… like getting a big zit before a big date * sigh *.. (actually.. it’s kinda >>>> :lol_wp:)

  • radname

Some Blake fans are upset that he’s only performing with Doug E. Fresh and Jordin gets to perform with the dreamgirls (even though there has been no mention of this and Beyonce has a concert out of North American). I doubt Blake is complaining, performing along side a pioneer of beatboxing? Yeah..sounds like something he’ll hate.

  • jersey

What time is dress rehearsal over? 3 or 4 eastern? Can’t wait for more spoilers!

  • radname

On the plus side, if Paula has broken her nose and is still in pain about it, she might just have to double on her daily dose of her drug induced cocktail.
Hopefully it works out for some ever so coherent comments about performances.
“You…are a star…I just…I love you you know that?” with tears streaming down her face.

  • AngC30

On My Fox News Chicago station this morning, David Viggiano said that Nigel Lithgoe said the “King” will be on the finale… Michael Jackson perhaps??? I am gonna go check the website now and see if it was posted…

  • Shannon

Any mention of the old guy with the petition that they let sing during auditions being in the finale? His name is right at the tip of my tongue but do you think I can remember it? I hope so he was so sweet and he was one auditioner I wouldn’t mind seeing again.

  • Lisa B

Not another Elvis performance, I hope.

  • Kerri

Gray you are screwing with us, right? I would die if Ray L went on idol…I don’t see it happening though.

I am getting all excited for tonight and tomorrow now. Doug E Fresh…. YES!!! He is one of the best beat boxers evah. I have seen him live several times. :clap_tb:

I’m pretty sure they’ll bring Elvis back to sing on the finale.
He was great on IGB. Perhaps he’ll join Ray L and Taylor or sing with Britney Spears.

  • sarahinwv

why are they not letting the Hometown (s) have celebrations ?????? Are the producers afraid someone will have a sign upside down again “Got Soul?”

  • madaboutu

I like the spoilers. We have some people going to both nights from our SoCal group, and am hoping they will report some little tidbits that are not seen on camera.

Interesting that one of the gals is a seat filler also and the age requirment is 18-35. She also is getting an interview with Taylor.

I listened to all of the coronation songs submitted, and I think they have chosen wisely. There are some pretty ones, but too slow on some and the lyrics aren’t right on others.

  • Kerri

Lisa – I hope we dont have another sighting of Elvis either. I don’t think I can take another Elvis hologram singing with Celine…OH GOD or worse Britney Spears. :)

  • pj

Blake said in an earlier interview that his greatest “Idol moment” was getting to hang out with Doug E Fresh, so I’m sure he’s super-psyched! Thanks for the links, Kerri!

Checked the website, no such luck…..I am thinking Michael Jackson more than elvis….Michael Jackson is “the King of pop”, if I hear anymore, I will keep ya posted!

  • Lisa B

No Kerri we must have Britney, super snark material!

  • Lisa B

Won’t be Michael Jackson, Fuller turned him down.

  • Kerri

Lisa – That is what I thought too….carp so it prolly is Elvis again. Jeez.

Hey, maybe it is the new king of POP, Justin Timberlake :)

  • rcnov

I heard on the morning show that a skit was filmed for the finale where Simon actually took the stage to sing semi-seriously, doing a one-minute version of “You’re So Vain” but changing the lyrics to “I’m So Vain”. They had three judges critiqueing him, which were Scott Savol, Mikalah Gordon, and William Hung. I’ve heard that they scrapped this from the show because it didn’t turn out nearly as funny or as cute as they expected it to be. That’s a shame, because that idea had a lot of potential.

  • Lisa B

Simon hasn’t the ability to laugh at himself.

  • MaryS-NJ

Maybe they’ll have a holographic Benny Goodman, the King of Swing.

A cut from the musicial The Lion King (featuring potential Disney Princess Jordin) perhaps?

    Larry King?

  • jersey

Maybe Burger King is a new sponsor.

  • madaboutu

TH, who will be on the finale, will be on Mark and Kim on KOST 103.5 in L.A. tomorrow morning. (Is that allowed? Feeling my way here)LOL Happy Birthday Emerald!

  • Lisa B

JT made some remark about not being used as a ratings draw after the Grammys.

  • jpfan

King Kong, King Curtis, I think it’ll be Elvis making a return visit.

  • emeralgem

I bet I know.. It’s BB King LOL

  • Smiley

Someone said earlier there was speculation about Paul McCartney. He could qualify as royalty.

  • sarahinwv

Stephen King ? (this show was alittle on the creepy side!)

  • madaboutu

Smiley…………..I’ll bet you are right about Paul McCartney. There was alot of talk about him appearing.

  • jersey

oooh, Smiley, that’s a good guess. Sir Paul.

  • emeralgem

Someone said earlier there was speculation about Paul McCartney. He could qualify as royalty.

    _________________________

I think he was only dubbed a Sir. Does that constitute royalty?

  • jpfan

Paul. They’re doing a Beatles medley so that works.

  • emeralgem

How about Roger Miller.. King Of The Road.. J/K

  • patay

There are a few videos on http://www.foxnews.com with current contestants, Paula and the season 5 winner (who received HUGE applause). Looks like they’re all having a good time.

  • Lisa B

Knight of the Realm, not a King.

Nigel would have more likely said music royalty if that was the case.

  • emeralgem

Knight of the Realm, not a King.

LisaB, what does a Knight of the Realm mean?

  • Lisa B

Descended from mediaeval chivalry, knights exist both within the orders of chivalry as well as in a class known as Knights Bachelor. Regular recipients include High Court judges and senior civil servants. Knighthood carries the title Sir; the female equivalent Dame only exists within the orders of chivalry.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_honours_system#Knighthood

The Realm is the UK where the Queen reigns.

There are honorary knighthoods as well eg Bob Geldof who should not use the actual title.

  • jpfan

Elvis singing a Beatles song with Sir Paul? Yes that’s my final answer.

  • kjc

    Hey Kirsten,

How about reprising the judges comments on Blake and Jordin now that we know what they’re singing? Last week I practically peed in my pants from laughing! :jittery_tb:

  • Kirsten

They’ve only promoted Shrek once on the show so far. Isn’t he supposed to be a King or something in the latest flick? I saw some preview of him dressed in some formal clothes. Maybe they will have King Shrek on?

Or, maybe they mean Stephen King. Though, I’m sure he can’t come up with anything near as frightening as the coronation song.

Or maybe Leo. He was the “King of the World”. They can get everybody to sing the Titanic song.

  • sarahinwv

Forest Whitaker ????? (The Last King of Scotland) *hangs head with shame* :downer_ee:

  • laura11383

That’s interesting that Scott Krippayne is credited as having allegedly co-written the winning song. He’s actually a Christian singer, with many popular songs in CCM.

  • emeralgem

    LisaB thank you..

After Americans elect their newest American Idol tomorrow night, AOL Music will debut the winner’s first single immediately at 10 p.m. ET. The song will be streaming on AOL Music, and go on sale at the iTunes Music Store beginning at midnight. Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis will square off on Fox tonight and tomorrow night to determine this season’s big winner.

Elvis singing a Beatles song with Sir Paul? Yes thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s my final answer.

Elvis has done a few Beatles songs in concert before.

  • Kirsten

How about reprising the judges comments on Blake and Jordin now that we know what theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re singing?

You know, it’s always tough to do a reprise. So, I probably shouldn’t. But, as luck would have it, I have a friend attending the taping just now and she has texted me the judges comments (they don’t want to leave anything to chance with Paula being on her meds, so they are taping the judges comments at the rehearsal. There will have seat warmers for the actual performance). My friend is an avid spoiler so she wittled out the heal of her platform shoe so that she could sneak in her cellphone.

    First round:

Blake = “You Give Love a Bad Name”

Randy: Check it out dawg! Different being on the big stage, hunh? Well, it was just ai’ght for me dawg. I liked it better the first time.

Paula: Great thinging Blake! And I LOOOOVE your look. Thothe wingth are fabulouth. How did you grow them?

Simon: That was wretched. Oh, shut up! I’m TALKING here. I’ve heard better random noises from chimps in the zoo. You should be glad you’ve got three songs, young man. Jordin wins round one.

Ryan: Um, Simon, Jordin hasn’t sung yet. (Nigel hits him with a tranquilizer dart)

    Jordin = “Broken Wing”

Randy: Now, that’s what I’m talking about. That was a HOT ONE. Woah! I can’t believe you are only 17! You been holding out on us!

Paula: I love you, Jayden! Woah, my chair ith moving.

Simon: You know what I’m going to say. That was perfection. You are what this competition is all about.

    She may have more later.

  • radname

I see the single won’t be a hard copy but a digital release interesting.

  • Kirsten

I see the single wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be a hard copy but a digital release interesting.

That is interesting. I predicted that after they didn’t release a compilation CD.

Also interesting that they will have the coronation songs available for listening even before the show airs in the West.

Someone just posted an official Arista release that indicates that Taylor will be singing “Heaven Knows” on AI tomorrow night. They also indicate that it is his new single going for adds on the 29th. I found this info posted over on the boogie board.

  • pj

Kirsten, I’m anxiously awaiting your friend’s spoiler of round two! How clever of her to sneak the cell phone into her heal. :lol_tb:

  • jersey

Good point, Kirsten. I guess they figured people will be able to find out who wins on the west coast by then anyway, given the internet and all.

  • MaryS-NJ

Well, well, well… released by download the very next day. I wonder if they will release a single CD for those old timers who don’t use iTunes and still play them disc thingies.

  • xoxoyc

After reading an interview with Simon just a few minutes I think he will back Blake tonight.

He said that Jordin is the better singer but Blake will be easier to produce and is more current.

He said there are too many girls like Jordin out there. Makes me wonder why he wanted Melinda to win so badly, as she would have had the same issues.

Anyways, me thinks Simon will back Blake tonight.

  • griz

Heaven Knows – official release: May 29th. Available date: May 22th.

Great timing to sing this on AI tomorrow night!

Also looking forward to the rumor of him singing with Jordin – I think their voices will blend pretty nicely – wonder what song it is?

Here’s a question for you — do you think that if Ray Charles released “What’d I Say” in 2007 instead of 1959, it would make airplay ?

  • Little Boy Blue

He said that Jordin is the better singer but Blake will be easier to produce and is more current.

To quote Simon : “It’s not just about the voice and you proved that.”

To paraphrase Randy : “Why, you don’t think this girl can be commercial ?”

    Ding-dong the disc is dead
Which old disc? The wicked disc
Ding-dong the wicked disc is dead
    Wake up you vinylhead
Rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up the wicked disc is dead
It’s gone where the goblins go
    Below – below – below
Yo-ho, let’s open up and sing and ring the bells out
Ding Dong’ the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the Wicked Disc is dead

Disclaimer: the death of the Wicked Disc did not stop Linkin Park from selling an estimated 625k copies of “Minutes to Midnight” in its first week of release, nor did its unfortunate demise prevent Elliott’s “Elliott Yamin” re-entering the HDD Top 50 chart with an estimated 26k in sales.

  • MaryS-NJ

I posted this at another forum but I think it applies to some of this discussion…

Simon fascinates me this season. He’s the ultimate A&R guy, he has to know that “throw-backy” singers aren’t going to be as commercially successful (as measured by units sold) but he loves Melinda anyway and genuninely wants to see her get the best opportunity possible. I think it may be that he knows a guaranteed contract means something for an artist like her, and maybe he knows that she will have to constantly fight to break in because of the emphasis on the “packaging” that goes with being a contemporary pop/r&b singer – an emphasis that he has helped punctuate throughout these 6 seasons. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am.

He seems to be bucking convention and going off script, and since he is the most respected of the three stooges in public interviews, I think that means something. I think his instincts about Jordin are right… pretty girl, nice voice, but no “wow” and that’s tough in a market filled with pretty pop singers with nice voices. Also, he may not love Blake’s voice but sees the commercial potential in him.

I honestly wonder if Simon’s grinchy heart has grown three sizes this season.

I think Simon’s pony is out of the race and he’ll view it as a spectator. As an A&R guy he’s got to see the potential in Blake, but I can’t imagine he’ll be overly enthusiastic about either because Melinda is his gal and he’s very vocal about it. He just seems to be sweet on her (not a romantic way).

As for throw backy music on Top 40… I don’t know.

I really like “Heaven Knows” from Taylor’s album because it’s a combination of old school soul with contemporary flavor. My Daughter loves it. It’s uptempo and a good song for summertime.

I heard Amy Winehouse’s “You Know That I’m No Good” at a carnival the other day in a mix with usual assortment of rock, hip hop and pop. There were a lot of teens singing along and dancing on line for the rides, so they know it and can dig it.

I love Amy Winehouse. I consider the instrumentation in her music to be throw-backy with a very contemporary twist. Granted, her music has more edge and rawness than Taylor’s current album, but I think there is definitely a place for it with multiple demographics.

  • jersey

    LMAO Nevada.

  • madaboutu

Nevada…………very funny, very creative, and very scary what you did. I hate change, but you know what? I have had vinyl records for years and they still would play nicely. Almost all of my CD’s have had flaws in them. Or maybe it’s my player.

    Hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a question for you à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ do you think that if Ray Charles released à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d I Sayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ in 2007 instead of 1959, it would make airplay ?
    _____________________

Who knows in the Circle of Life, but to me, Heaven Knows has more of a Marvin Gaye vibe than Ray Charles eventhough the very beginning of the song does remind me of What I Say.. If you listen to the whole song though there are segments that are original IMO and do not remind me of any other artists that I can think of from the past.
Also, John Mayer’s Keep on Waitin for the World To Change sounds alot like some of Curtiss Mayfield’s song and it made airplay… BIG TIME

On My Fox News Chicago station this morning, David Viggiano said that Nigel Lithgoe said the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Kingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ will be on the finaleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Michael Jackson perhaps??? I am gonna go check the website now and see if it was postedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

  • Kirsten

Okay, I just got some more intel from my mole at the rehearsal:

Blake = “She will Be Loved”

Randy: I don’t know dawg. What was with all those high notes. I felt like I was at some drag club in Europe and I’d had few. It just didn’t work for me dawg.

Paula: I tripped over a dog.

Simon: Blake, that was all very nice, but so what? I didn’t fall out of my chair. Paula did, but I didn’t. I could go into any school recital and hear the same thing. Jordin wins round 2.

[Ryan looks warily at Nigel and says nothing]

    Jordin = “Fighter”

Randy: Wow! 17 and you sing like that? I go to the same supermarket as Christina’s housekeeper and I can tell you that there is no way Christina could sing that song like that live. That was the BOMB!

Paula: Whereth the bong? Haha. Oh bomb. I can’t feel my feet.

Simon: You just did something that has been sorely lacking in this competition. You’re the first person to sing a contemporary song. You took a chance and it paid off. I could hear that on the radio.

  • Nevada

    Uh, never mind.

  • madaboutu

    Gizmo………….too funny and right on.!!!

LBB………Well, JTFTW made it to 20, maybe HK will make it to #10. :) If a song gets enough airplay, there are people out there that will like it. Witness one of the worst songs ever…….Sexyback! :sick_ee:

    Nat “King” Cole, perhaps?

I don’t know about you all but I am not nearly as excited about this year’s final performance show as I have been in past years.

  • jersey

I’m actually more excited for this final. I wasn’t as active on-line last year, so I didn’t have this all day spoiler thing going on. Well, I did read MJ’s front page for spoilers, but I didn’t know how to use Haloscan way back then :redface_wp: So even though I had a contestant I was more interested in last year, I didn’t have this all day build up.

  • rher

I’m confused. Did Blake really say that one of his greatest moments on AI was singing with Doug E? Hasn’t he said that he worked with him before, pre-AI, many time before?

  • kjc

I’m psyched for tonight too. And tomorrow. Both nights tie into festive food and wine for me. Good luck to Jordin and Blake.

I don’t care about HK either. I think it sounds too 50ish. Heh.
It sounds too much like a Gray CHarles remake.
But hey that’s just my opinion. Let’s just say I don’t think that song will get played on Top 40 stations.
But best of luck to him.

  • radname

I really like Heaven Knows, interesting that his and Kats singles are going to radio at the same time.
Wonder if he’ll be backed by the AI band, and will crawl back to the spinning monkey Taylor instead of performing it like he does at his concerts

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m confused. Did Blake really say that one of his greatest moments on AI was singing with Doug E? Hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t he said that he worked with him before, pre-AI, many time before?

He hasn’t performed with Doug E on Idol yet, but there’s a rumor he might tomorrow night. He did say in one of those interviews earlier in the season that he got to meet Doug E and it was his proudest moment.

This was from the UK edit of the show. I dug up the video at Team Plaid. Yay for the archives.

  • Kirsten

Okay. My friend got nabbed by security before she could text me the final spoilers, but she borrowed some gray-haired guy’s phone as soon as they got outside. So, we’re all good:

    Third Round :

Blake = “This is My Now”

Randy: Yeah. That just didn’t work for me dawg. That was a terrible song choice. It’s all about the song choice. And wasn’t it pitchy in spots? Yeah, I just wasn’t feelin’ it. That’s a “no” from me.

Paula: Everything ith blue. Blue. Blue. Blue. Hi Blake! Blue Blake. Blae Bluke.

Simon: I’ll give you credit Blake. You had to have known that you were outclassed these last few weeks. That you were getting by on people voting on you for your gimmicks and your hair. But you still tried to do as much as you could. What America has to remember is that this is a singing competition. That was just not good singing.

Jordin = “This is My Now”

Randy: This is what I’m talkin’ about. You just blew your face off. You’re only 17 and you manage to sing like that? Woo! We got a HOT one, baby! Great song choice.

Paula: Why do you have thnaketh crawling up your legth?

Simon: What America has to remember is that this is more than a singing competition and you’ve just shown that. You’re likeable. Not only do you sing well, but you have that X-factor. People can’t take their eyes off of you. If America votes for talent instead of gimmicks, you’ve just won American Idol.

Oh, And she said that Daughtry sang “Home”, but he did not use the megaphone.

    JUDGE’s COMMENTS (speculating of course)

    Jordin “Fighter” by Christina Aguielera

Randy: Dawg, keepin it real… That is a tough song to sing and not many people can pull it off besides Christina.. But you come along 17 years old and blow it out of the water. That was a hot one tonight America. This 17 year old girl is showin’ what she been doing all season and that’s stepping up to the plate and workin’ it out.

Paula: Jordin, there’s nothing else I can say. You are already a star and you proved that with this.

Simon: Um, to be quite honest, I thought it wasn’t your best performance and you’re lucky you have two more performances. It sounded like you were shrieking in parts and I HATED the arrangement. (in other words, I want Blake to win because he will sell more records)

Blake: “She Will Be Loved” by Maroon 5

Randy: Yo, yo, yo, Blake. So I thought you did a good job, but come one dawg.. Maroon 5 again. Just keepin it real I wanted to see you do something else. At this stage in the competition you have to raise your game and I don’t think you did that with this one.

Paula: I love you. You are current, hip and happening. God, I love you.

Simon: I see where Randy is going with that comment. However, I like the fact that you know who you are and don’t sell out. That’s what this competition is all about.

    Jordin: “This Is My Now”

Randy: Jordin, Jordin, Jordin… Keepin it real… You started off a little rough and I was nervous for you… but DAWG, in the end you worked it out you know what I’m sayin… That was a hot one and based on that performance you should win this competition..

Paula: Jordin, this is your now. At only 17, you are on top of the world and after that song nobody is going to take you down.

Simon: I’m not crazy about the song or the arrangement, but I thought it was a very good vocal Round 2 goes to Jordin after Round 1 goes to Blake.

    Blake: “This Is My Now”

Randy: So Blake, people think you can’t sing a song straight up and have to beat box, but you showed another side to you in that song. I liked it. It was pitchy in some spots and you kind of lost it on those runs at the end, but DAWG, it was hot.

Paula: What more can I say? I know this song was a challenge for you but you breezed through. Good job.

Simon: Not bad, you showed you are more than just beatboxing, but I think you didn’t do as well as Jordin on this song.

    Jordin “Broken Wing”

Randy: Alright. I’ve worked with Whitney, Mariah, Celine… and you rank right up there with that song. You blew it out of the water, dude that was hot. Hot. You are the frontrunner after that.

Paula: My nose is Broken, Your wing is broken and my heart will be broken if you don’t win this competition.

Simon: I would have liked to see you do “You’ll Never Walk Alone” instead of this. Great vocal, but I think this song is too old for you. Also, the arrangement was horrendous. You’re 17, don’t just stand there, move. (he didn’t tell her this the first time she sang it but since then TCO switched from Jordin to Blake).

Blake “You Give Love a Bad Name”

Randy: I loved hearing that again, man. DAWG, you could have a hit record with that. Most original version of a song on AI ever. America, we got a hot one.

Paula: You are a true artist. You will go far in the music industry.
    (sobs hysterically)

Simon: Um, Blake to be honest, re-doing that performance is like me having a threesome. The first time it is great and awesome but the second time the novelty wears out and it is just gross and akward. That being said, I think most of America likes threesomes and are willing to have threesomes more than just once, so I think they will like that performance and you will win this competition and sell more records than Fantasia and Ruben put together and win more Oscars than J-Hud ever will. I also prefer you to last year’s winner.

  • mosheeaka

Simon wants Blake to win. Randy wants Jordin to win. In the end Simon will win out and Blake will beat Jordin. He is the new TCO and I think Jordin will be bashed tonight big time and Blake will be praised to high heavens by Simon.

  • xoxoyc

Honestly in thinking about it this week- TPTB have been setting Blake up for a surprise victory for a while now. I think they have gone all out with the praise for Jordin in the hopes that she would not win over Blake. (I mean there is no way they didn’t learn from last year with Daughtry). They want America to THINK Jordin is the frontrunner and the worthy winner, but they’ve wanted Blake all along. Because Blake is the white male pop star that they’ve never had and have always wanted.

I think a few things will confirm if I’m right:

    1) If they show what Blake did with the coin toss as chivalrous.

    2) The judges comments will tell a lot. If someone gets the “thank you for a great season” or “you’ve just won” or “you didn’t do enough to win.” That will tell who the chosen one is.

    3) Camera time and editing. Who will have more signs shown? Better reaction edits, etc……….

  • madaboutu

Is Taylor performing tonight and tomorrow nite, or just tomorrow?

Is This is my now the “for sure” winner’s choice song?

    And go team plaid!

  • folk

i just listened to that coronation song. man, it sounds like DIMYP.

anyways, with that song….blake giving the last spot to sing to jordin is going to bite him in the ass, unless he wants to lose. her ending the show with a ballad and glory notes…all about 17 and this is her now….that is a killer for blake.

and no…i do not think the show has been employing rampant reverse pyschology as XO implies. her reasoning has weeks of non pimping of blake mean that he really was pimped. since when do we live in a world where a blue sky really means it is green?

lastly, heaven knows should have been the first single. i said it a long time ago.

    Bulletin from Taylor’s MySpace –

Taylor Hicks: American Idol Finale Performance
Taylor Hicks will be performing “Heaven Knows” on the American Idol Finale tomorrow (5/23/07) at 8PM/7 Central.

He will also be doing an interview tomorrow morning on 98.7 (Star) at 7 AM and on 103.5 (KOST) at 8 Am.

    MAD:

I am LMAO as well…in part, because of the creative “judge’s comments” posted above. But even more so is the micro- and macro-analysis, speculation, and perception of “TPTB” past and present actions, and their potential non-actions, are cracking me up to the point of tears.

Jordin may or may not win. Blake may or may not win. IMO, whoever wins and is crowned the new American Idol tomorrow night, it will be because fans of both contestants, voted and managed to cast more votes than the other. Sure, a few “casual viewers” may be motivated to vote by an individual performance, NOT because someone came of as chivalrous (I personally found the coin toss decision a bit stupid/naive on Blake’s part), or the amount of camera time, editing, or who has more signage shown.

    LMAO.

KTINTN………thank you for that 8 AM confirmation on KOST. I never check myspace, and even the mid morning DJ didn’t know.

It’s probably a good thing that the final two don’t really realize what their life is going to be like after tomorrow night.

Jordin may or may not win. Blake may or may not win. IMO, whoever wins and is crowned the new American Idol tomorrow night, it will be because fans of both contestants, voted and managed to cast more votes than the other.

    I heart Boulder. ITA.

It is entirely possible that the producers will be happy with either a Blake or Jordin win. Why wouldn’t they be? Either one could go on to be successful, given the right material.

We have confirmation that the coronation song is “This is my Now” from a real source.

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/tv/la-et-idolsong23may23,1,3760009.story?coll=la-headlines-entnews&ctrack=1&cset=true

“This Is My Now,” the original song to be performed by “American Idol” finalists Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis in their showdown tonight at the Kodak Theatre, was written by a Seattle duo: a pastor and a contemporary Christian music artist. The song, which beat more than 25,000 entries in this season’s online songwriting competition, will be released as the winner’s first single.

I must say that it is a bit ironic that this is an all Seattle final. Despite being trashed by Simon and Nigel (and even Paula called it a freak show), the Seattle auditions not only produced the two finalists, but Seattle is also the home of the writers of the coronation song.

lastly, heaven knows should have been the first single. i said it a long time ago.

It was my first choice as well. I look forward to seeing him do it tomorrow night.

I totally disagree with Blake’s decision to let Jordin sing last, but I’m completely impressed with his character for doing so. He sure seems like a heck of a nice guy.

But, like Folk – I believe letting Jordin end the show with a big showy ballad with lots of glory notes creates a pretty steep hill for Blake to get over.

Jordin broke the curse of going first on Top 3 night. It’s possible that she’s unstoppable. But I’ll be texting my little fingers off for Blake tonight anyway.

  • xoxoyc

Ah Boulder Soul- I just had to throw some of the reasons why Jordin has been pimped out there as possibilites that Blake has been pimped using reverse psychology. It’s all in fun.

“This Is My Now” will suit Blake much better than Jordin- I’m surprised that Simon said Blake will have trouble with it.

  • folk

blake will have trouble with the song, not because he will not sing it well, but because he will be unable to match jordins glory notes…and america thinks a glory note means you sang the song well.

  • griz

Re: Taylor singing Heaven Knows on the finale –

Anyone wanna bet he looks at and points directly to Simon when he sings those glory lyrics “won’t you cut me some slack”?

    I’m laying 2-1 odds.

  • bean99

I’ve hated all of the coronation songs up till now and don’t expect that to change tonight although I haven’t listened to the one it’s supposed to be.

Blake is not and never has been TCO but I doubt they’d hate it if he won. I just think they’ve wanted Jordin for a long time, especially Randy and the producers. At this point it doesn’t matter nor does singing first or 2nd. What matters is song choice and performance.

    Go Team Plaid!

Nah, all Blake will have to do is lower the key and beatbox his way through all the glory notes part. America will love that and say he’s the most original Idol ever….

Blake’s already trending as the winner- he could stand up there and just dance through all three of his songs and still win.

  • folk

xo…if you truly think blake can beatbox thru the coronation song…i worry for your mental health.

  • madaboutu

Boulder…………amen! But I happened to accidentally get on Rickeys site from a year ago and there were comments going on from E’s fans about how they would do anything to keep Kat from winning. (sorry MJ this is tied in with speculation about how winners win) I think this happens in the final two especially. So, not only will it be about the performances but whose fans hate who the most and a myriad of other things. I think it is virtually impossible to ever have any voting process that crowns the best. That is too subjective. For instance, how will the Christian vote be cast LOL It is just too ridiculous anymore for anyone to talk about talent in one way or the other. It is, as you say, whoever wins, wins!

Question: Is Elliott scheduled to be back? On my drive to work this morning the radio station I happened to be listening to was mentioning that Elliott’s schedule was tremendously busy(this was right after they played his song!) and how he had to be back in California for the Idol finale tomorrow, but they weren’t sure what he’d be singing.

So I was just curious if anyone knew anything about Elliott.

As for the craptastic coronation song….blech. I’m not a fan of ANY coronation song of ANY season. I’ve found the choices this season pretty crappy, and I did listen to them. I just wish they really fit the winners song to the winner style musically, instead of just making some craptastic inspirational song.

Not to mention, it does make me mad that the “potential” winners song is really not written by an amateur? Why make such a big deal out of this contest if really you are going to give it to a pro anyway. “This is my now” by Scott Krippayne I don’t care for. I wasn’t familiar with Scott either until previous posts, but still.. Seems kinda unfair, but all the same typical of TPTB.

So…I really hope that this evening we have some MINDBLOWING performance. We haven’t had ONE this season. Every season has one or two performances that EVERYONE talks about. We haven’t had that yet, so please, please let me have a performance that makes me think this whole season wasn’t just lackluster.

    Go Team Plaid!

I was thinking about this earlier…the casual voters will no doubt be tuning in and will be listening for the best pitch and tone. Obviously, Jordin’s great, and has done a wonderful job, (though I still miss Melinda) but is America ready for Blake? Should be an interesting nite.

LMAO on the judges’ “critiques” :)

And I agree with PJ and Bean99, it doesn’t matter who wins at this point. But I’ll have to say, since Blake’s a musician and and has been acknowledged by his peers, I will have to pull for him tonight.

Btw, Heaven Knows kicks a$$ (tm JJ).

And last but not least, happy, happy b-day, emeralgem :smile1_tb:

ETA: I’m dyin’ to know which “King” will show up tonite. I liked your suggestion emeralgem…bring on some BB!!!

  • taywatch

I don’t know if this comes into play but wonder who the Melinda voters will be voting for now. Will they vote for Blake or just not vote at all?

  • jeannie

I was a Melinda voter, and will be voting for Blake.

  • jpfan

I think Elliott will just be in the audience/wrap party. I’m pretty sure he won’t be peforming.

  • jersey

Re: Elliot tomorrow night, there seem to be a whole lot of idols at the Kodak theatre tonight. They’ve been interviewing them for 2 hours on the tv guide channel. Maybe there really will be some kind of mass idol pointy pose tomorrow night (squeee at the possibility!)

  • shar

Emeralgem, happy birthday dear lady. I hope your day was terrific and I hope Team Plaid kicks some serious bootay tonight.

    Cheersies to you, E-gem!

  • Crazymomelon

Dragging myself out of lurkdom, and probably will endure outrageous slings and arrows because of it. I will watch Idol tonight AND tomorrow night. Just because.
Thanks for all the news (LisaB) and “opinions”,MJ!
Go, Taylor (probably my last legitimate chance to say this)!

  • Little Debbi

Simon was just on Extra. He said that he has three more years on his Idol contract and then he will not renew. He said 10 years of Idol is enough for him.

I think the show will probably end then, wouldn’t it be amazing for the finale of the show to have all the old idols back and realize how many lives it has changed?

  • madaboutu

radname………..I think by the time Simons contract is up, everyone will be glad to see it end. Most shows are getting stale by 10 years.

This coronation song was written for Jordin. And it was done on purpose. It’s just not a song Blake would do and it is unfair. I’m PISSED.

Unfortunately, it has beem this way pretty much every year. The coronation songs have always been HORRIBLE! Someone posted that only Kelly Clarkson’s were good. Not true at all. If you saw Justin try to sing them you will know what I am talking about! It’s just that Kelly–who can sing anything–sang the HELL out of them both as only she can!

ALL coronation songs were written with Jordin (or someone like her) in mind. NO coronation song would make Blake sound good. It is the nature of AI coronation songs.

Would you prefer “Inside Your Heaven” perhaps? Maybe “My Destiny”? I know, “A Moment Like This” with beatboxing in the middle break! Yeah, that’d do it.

    Gray etc.:

I’ve heard that Ray L. will come on and sing his most inspirational party-down club song, “Empty” — as a trio with Jordin and Britney. Sample lyric:

“I never learned to count my blessings
I preferred to dwell in my disasters…..”

you can hear it on his myspace jukebox: http://www.myspace.com/raylamontagne
