Fantasia is Having a Boy, Says Mahalia Investors Backed Out

Fantasia Barrino called into the Wendy Williams Show today to talk about the rumors swirling around her movie role and pregnancy.

Fantasia reveals that she’s having a baby boy, and is on bed rest right now. She says she hasn’t heard from the family of Mahalia Jackson, who is supposedly upset with her for not revealing her pregnancy before she was cast as the the legendary gospel singer in an upcoming bio-pic.

Fantasia describes a very sketchy sounding situation. She says she was ready to begin shooting the movie in January, but the producers called her to say the investors had backed out. She hasn’t heard from them since. She claims she never signed any contracts.

When Wendy asked the Season 3 Idol winner if she was still seeing  Antwaun Cook, the married man who is reportedly the father of her baby, she hemmed and hawed and said “I don’t want to talk about that. I’ll come in and talk to you about that on the couch.”

    Sad but not surprising the Mahalia investors backed away. The audience is church ladies. Well, isn’t that special?

    Fantasia has herself to blame. Many people learn from such mistakes even when they aren’t responsible enough to avoid them in the first place. It’s an open question whether or not Fantasia will.

    I don’t think the Mahalia investors or producers are sketchy, I think Fantasia does a damn good job painting other people as the guilty or shady party because she’s allergic to accepting the blame. She has acted unprofessionally over and over again and this time maybe it bit her in the butt. If indeed investors dropped out, could that have been because the leading lady had a very public meltdown with an aspirin overdose, only to further complicate things a couple months later with a pregnancy? Hmmm

    Fantasia is so talented, but her private life is a mess and she seems to have a lot of trouble acting professionally in her career. If it’s true that she never signed any contracts, then she was never really cast in that movie.

    Could we have imagined back in 2004 that Jennifer Hudson’s stock would be soaring while Fantasia’s crashed and burned. Oh, Fantasia. You were my favorite Idol winner. I’m so disappointed.

    And I translated that as “no.” Because she skirted the question, I assumed the answer was embarrassing. I guess either way it’s embarrassing. Either she’s having a baby with a married man, or he’s abandonned her.

    That whole thing with Mahalia. Wow. Could have been an incredible breakthrough for her.

    All the celeb mags say she is pregnant for and is still with Antwaun Cook, the married man. So disappointed in her. Very unprofessional of and a waste of an extremely promising role. She’s so talented but terribly messed up in her private life. What a shame! :( Love Mahalia Jackson’s music.
