Elliott Yamin, on the heels of the release of his album “Fight for Love” in the US, is currently promoting the record in Japan.

The Japanese single, “You Say” is currently #24 on the Japan Hot 100.

Check out Elliott singing a sweet acoustic version of “You Say” at FM Tokyo 13, after the JUMP…

Funny, ITunes UK has absolutely nothing for Elliott Yamin. Not one single. Hmm, I wonder why they didn’t do a european release?

  • bigEfan

I love Elliott. How in the heck US radio is not playing this man is beyond me. It pisses me off when I think about it. And, this is with excellent call out, hot picks, etc. Sucks being indie in radio nowadays I guess.

Any E fans out there…need to be requesting F4L at their local stations! Elliott deserves to be heard just as much, if not more than some of that trash they play repeatedly on top 40.

  • musicisthelife

    Elliot is pure awesome.

  • sammy

Nice video. Wish that had been his first release .

  • TKat

Nice video. Wish that had been his first release .

I agree. And, if always been a fan. I think the song, however, is just OK. I hope that someday he gets an absolutely killer song and breaks thru.

  • hwc

Maybe he couldn’t hear the guitar very well in his headphones.

  • rkt

Elliott is really a nice guy with a beautiful voice. IF he can get a hit on the radio I believe he can pick up some album sales. There are many nice songs on the new album, you can just play it through from beginning to the end, though many of them sound similar.

  • abbysee

I’ve always loved his voice. I just think that both he, and Ruben never find material that matches the caliber of their voices. I so prefer him any day over say…. Robin Thicke, Elliott can just flat out blow.

  • weese

Just smiled through that whole performance. This is one of my least favorite songs on the cd but really enjoyed it here. Elliott should sing everything acoustic all the time.

  • Jolene

FFL was done before it even got going. I really really hope Elliott plans another single release, and that CHR is more receptive of the next one. Otherwise, I think it would be smart to try going for multiple formats so as to not put all his eggs in the very rickety CHR basket.

Wish him all the best, he is such a nice guy.

  • daisy

Elliott singing live is pure joy, so happy that he is receiving love in Japan, love the new cd and this song, very catchy
Lucky for me, my local radio is showing some love for FFL!

  • Karen

Nice acoustic version. This is one of my favorites on the album. Thanks for posting the video. I wonder if “You Say” would work as a single on HAC or is it too AC?

  • Gosh

I like this. And I really like Elliott’s voice. (I didn’t watch his season, so I’m a recent convert.) Hopefully this will be a big hit for him in Japan.

I wonder if à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You Sayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ would work as a single on HAC or is it too AC?

I don’t think it’s too AC – but I’m not sure it’s HAC enough. HAC loves Rob Thomas, Daughtry, Nickelback, David Cook. That seems to be their core sound these days. I don’t know if they would embrace something like “You Say” unless it’s a hit on CHR first.

  • lurksalot

Elliott was my guy in S5 and I still luv his voice. Hope things work out for him.

Lucky for me, my local radio is showing some love for FFL!

You are lucky Daisy! Where do you live?

As an indie, he doesn’t have the international apparatus and country-specific sub-companies that you have if you’re signed to a major so he has to find a company to partner with in pretty much every country, which is time-consuming, chancy, and therefore kind of expensive.

I think they probably have hopes of working deals in other countries ultimately, if they can, but Japan seems to have been the easiest one to get a deal with to start. He’s distributed by a big company (though not a major, I think) over there, and by pouring a bunch of effort into that they’re at least getting some good stats and fandom to show others and help build his reputation. So far, seems to be working.

But if he’s to make sales worldwide it’s going to be more of an uphill climb, like everything is for an indie artist.

I agree with bigEfan in that I am sick of the same horrible songs being played over and over and over again on radio. I could listen to Elliott all day and then look forward to hearing him again the next day, and the next. He’s got it all – talent, personality, and a heart of gold. He works his butt off going from radio station to radio station, and while there, the DJs and PDs fall all over him talking about what a wonderful singer he is and what a nice guy, but the minute he’s out the door, they forget about him.

I can only hope he doesn’t ever give up because I want to make music for a long, long, long time.

  • c-lyn

Sorry, typo there – it should be: “I want HIM to make music . . .

  • lucy

Sorry, typo there – it should be: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I want HIM to make music . . .

I think he’s going to need to sell it in some other way than through pop radio, though. For the most part, they play hardly any ballads any more, and their definition of ballad is very loose, too — They consider Fight for Love a ballad, for example. And I suspect that F4L may have been picked for the American single release because it was among the least ballad-y things on the album. It’s a little bit more uptempo, driving. But it’s still too ballad for much of pop radio.

And it’s too R&B-flavored for a much of AC radio. But his stuff is not edgy enough to fit in with most urban R&B.

He’s got a great voice and he sure can sing, but he’s in a niche that may not have much radio possibility right now, even for major-label people, I suspect. Makes it hard to sell a large number of songs or albums, because where do you get your exposure? … I suppose most artists are facing a similar — if not quite as extreme — dilemma right now, though, really. Radio plays only a few songs, even if your song *does* fit a precise niche precisely, so how do you get exposure to an audience that might like your stuff?

  • Allison

I love “You Say”, and I think it could be an AC or Hot AC hit.

  • lucy

I love à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You Sayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , and I think it could be an AC or Hot AC hit.

I think it could be, too, and so could some other stuff on the new album.

But it’s a lot harder to sell both albums and singles from an AC or even an HAC platform, I think.

Plus, as an indie, he’s even going to have some trouble getting a lot of play in those formats since the song wouldn’t have been a hit on pop first. That being the case, he hasn’t really committed to releasing stuff to AC, as I understand it. Wait for You got picked up on other formats after it was a big hit at pop. But with the new album, they’re still trying to make a go at pop, it seems, before they give up and try releasing it elsewhere. It’s all a money issue, I suppose. When you try for radio play in any format, it represents an investment unless the format would just be picking you up after you’ve succeeded elsewhere.

I love Elliott; I find his album a little blah though. But, I have to admit, even on songs that bore me on the album, when he sings live and acoustic, I am totally sold!

A great Elliot performance. I just can’t believe that considering he had quite a hit on his first cd, that the radio stations are jumping at the chance push him for another. His album is really good, if a tiny bit over-produced. He sounds so good acoustic, he should have had a few unplugged songs on the cd. That being said, his cd has had many a spins in my house and car.

  • Skylark

Thank you for posting this for us! I would love a whole acoustic album from Elliott… but I do love his new CD also. FFL has been on VH1 Top 20 Countdown, wish radio was playing it more.
