American Idol 11 alum, Elise Testone reveals to Reality Rocks some of her post Idol plans. As soon as she gets off the road in September, she’s headed straight to the studio to make an album. There’s a possibility that blues singer, Susan Tedeschi and husband and guitarist Derek Trucks will be collaborating on Elise’s album. Also, she hopes to be able to contact Queen’s Brian May. When the guitarist appeared on Idol, the two discussed the possibility of working together.

On the Idol tour, she’s singing two solos, all the group songs and maybe a duet or trio. She’s very happy about her song selections. There’s a song she didn’t sing on Idol, that she’s excited about, because it has 3 different section. It’s as if she’s singing a few different genres. Her second song is an Idol performance. The hot speculation is that she’ll perform “Whole Lotta Love.”

She’s love to bring a “70s rock vibe” back to music–like a cross between Stevie Nicks and Led Zepplin. Her songwriting tends to produce ballady sad songs. She’s trying to steer away from that for now. although she’d like to put out songs like that at some point.

“Blink twice for yes” – on the WLL question – Funny.

Also funny (but not funny haha) that CaseyA said being on Idol taught him to say “No.” and Elise says she learned ‘you do have more of a say, you can put your foot down’ and that was where she went wrong…after struggling to think of some advice she got from Idol that she ‘did’ agree with. Heh.

This is the person from Season 11 whose music I am most likely to buy post-Idol, (along with Erika, if she gets a shot to make any) the others are not my cuppa tea at all – so I’m interested to see videos of her set, especially the song with three sections, displaying three different genres. Can’t imagine what that could be.

    Thanks for the video, mj.

I thought I heard her say “couple genres” Wouldn´t that mean 2, not 3?

Heh. IDK, Eriko, wasn’t really parsing it that closely. I’m just interested to hear it, whatever it is. Ya know?

    Is she signed???

So am I :) And an album with something between Zeppelin and Stevie Nicks sounds interesting. She sure showed almost no one can cover them as well as she does

I love Susan Tedeschi. I’m officially excited to hear what Elise will do with her album if Susan is involved.

I would love to see her land at one of the smaller labels, similar to James.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

I wish her luck.  Perhaps this year’s AI contestants can pretend to never have heard of the show and maybe they can get some air time and some respect.  Failing that, they can go country like so many already have.   Unfortunately, this isn’t  working out that well for some either.   The secret to success seems to be come from any country but the US, have  so so talent and not old enough to drive.

Love Elise keeping it real.  She acknowledges that the 70′s rock vibe stuff has been done so well in the past that it will be hard to replicate success in that genre (my interpretation).  Success 101 – be cognizant of the enormity of the task and plan accordingly but, break task into small realizable goals and proceed to achieve objective.

Elise tweets, “I think the best part about the show will be when we’re all on stage together in the group numbers. We really Love each other & it shows!”

She seems really genuine and sweet.  I have kinda had my antennas up to see if I detected any jealousy about some of her fellow contestants having more success than her on AI (i.e., going further in competition and getting commensurate perks).  The answer?  None, nada, zippo.

She has repeatedly expressed, in interviews and tweets, that she is happy for all of her fellow contestants getting recognition and opportunity.  Apparently she is confident of her own eventual success.  Awesome.

I ran across this youtube video uploaded in Dec 2009.  It is called “The Soul of Folly Beach-Canon 7d lowlight footage”.  The point of the video is to illustrate how good the camera and lens are.  But, guess who happens to be performing at the restuarant/club where this is filmed. . . .you guessed it. . . . pre-idol Elise Testone.  She is at 0:45 forward singing, Tom Petty’s “Breakdown”. I really enjoyed it since it was at least 1.5 years before she even auditioned for AI.  She really did have a career in the Charleston music scene.

there are so many great pre-idol videos of Elise. and you can also find some great original songs. none of them have the vibe she’s describing here, but i love them all the same. she is just incredibly talented and loves music so much you just can’t help but love it along with her. if you’re looking for great covers she does- my favorite is Van Morrison’s Into The Mystic. and this is a link to 3 great original songs: http://www.reverbnation.com/elisetestone . my fav is Still We Try, but if you like blues, then Lucky Day is just as good. ENJOY. she really is a fantastic singer and person. love her.
