Elise Testone dropped by Live! with Kelly and absolutely KILLED. I mean SLAYED DEAD a performance of Adele’s “One and Only”.

Excuse me while I go away to sob that Queen Elise is no longer on my TV.

Watch below.

What you mean IS … she BUTCHERED this song.  Wow!  That was absolutely terrible.

Allow me permission MJ to cry on your shoulder too.   I have no urge to watch the rest of this season at all.   Elise leaves a big empty space for true music lovers.

She slayed it like a banshee…just sort of shouted the song :(

  • Anonymous

I”m sobbing right there with you, mj.  Second season in a row I won’t have to watch the finale – I couldn’t care less who wins.  Won’t be buying their music anyway.

I can say that at least this year one of the finalists doesn’t make me physically ill, so there’s that.

This has me so excited for the American Idol concert this year. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the top 10.

IDK this song, not Adele fan, but i think it was her best performance so far. I think she didn’t work quite well on Idol, cause she isn’t the kind of technically perfect signer who can bring it at any time. She’s more about feeling it or not.

Holy Shit! Did she just perform that song better than how she did it on the show? Good God man!

I’m gonna miss you, Elise :’(

  • Kitty Armistead

Really, America? This is who you vote off?! *sigh* We can cry together, MJ.

I’m a musician, and I lost all inspiration and passion that I had for it, and Elise was fixing it. So there was kind of an emotional attachment. I honestly don’t know if I can stand to watch the rest of the season.

From the comments, expected something spectacular – didn’t hear it.  It was just OK, IMO

You are welcome to your opinion, but please don’t put words in my mouth…OK?

    I miss Elise. :(

She is so amazing. I hope she has success after the show. She is so mega talented.

On an aside, nice to see Pat Kiernan of NY1 co-hosting with Kelly!

  • Valentin432

I’m sad we didn’t get a recording from this song, her version is powerfull, on the show she let her emotions get the best of her at one point of the song.

She bores me to death. Glad she’s gone.

I liked Elise on Idol. I really did. She has an interesting voice. I didn’t know she was gonna be on Live this morning. I was in the other room, I had to come into the living room to see who was making that awful noise. I thought there must be something wrong with their sound board or something, because I never heard her sound like that. It almost sounded like torturing her.

  • Anonymous

That performance was so weirdly cut short, she didn’t even get to the chorus. Am I wrong? That said, I expected something really spectacular from headline comment but I just didn’t think it was that great. She has a great voice but this performance didn’t impress me and I think it is mostly because the song was so truncated the vocal never really got going. Why won’t they let them do the full song on this show?

  • Ringo

Brilliant piece this.  Not only did Elise kick some ass and show us why she might have gone further, but she gave us a litmus test for musical taste and intelligence.  Much thanks MJ.

  • justmefornow

    Still liked Erika better.
I really wished Erika, not Elise had stayed longer. Oh well.
But I’m in agreement about not caring any longer who wins this year.

  • Chrissie H

This is by far one of my favorite Adele songs. I absolutely love the original and I didn´t like Elise´s version – not in the least.

  • Anonymous

I can’t watch this now, but she’s the real thing, she’s extremely talented. I’ll miss her, too.

     Oh SNAP!  ;-)

This song and Vienna were my favorites that Elise sang on Idol.  I love gritty kind of voices and singers that feel their songs. Im going to miss seeing her every week also.  I power voted hard for her the last two weeks but someone had to go.  Everyone has their own likes.  Some people don’t get Elise, I don’t get Philip.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that I may be in the minority in not liking that rendition at all.  Sorry, Elise.  I didn’t enjoy that at all.

  • Kurt Samuels

    Well, someone needs to!

  • Anonymous

I accidentally saw her on the actual television this morning:  I liked the song, but didn’t figure many would.  I think it is very difficult to sing anything for that show, b/c it is pretty a cappella.  No one ever sounds good.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, umma gonna miss her.  For the remainder of the season it will be Howdy Doody time.

  • http://twitter.com/jonnyboy82 Jon Glass

Im sorry, I dont think shes good. She sounds like a pot head. She looks trashy.

  • Anonymous

me too, I only really liked one or two of her performances, but thought because of headline I might enjoy this one but I did not, she is not bad, she is not that good, she is ok but very happy she is gone and dont have to see her annoying face.  I apologize to MJ but no contestant has ever annoyed me as much as this one, I tried to like her, maybe later on if she gets some good coaches, she does have potential but not just yet

  • Anonymous

Elise is still the QUEEN. So disappointed that she is gone.

  • chili1000

I liked Elise a lot.  She would have been in my personal top 5.  6th is pretty close so I’m happy where she ended up.

That said, I didn’t really care for this performance.  She did what she has a bad habit of doing, and that is taking a simple song and making it complicated.  That can get exhausting for the listener.  I think I finally understand what Randy meant about her “boxing” with a song.  It seemed to me like she was doing a vocal “rope-a-dope’.

  • Anonymous

At least her voice didn’t crack horribly this time around.

  • http://aquayers.blogspot.com aquayers

This is way better than her One and Only performance on Idol which I loved. Elise truly have an amazing voice. I love her runs etc. I even appreciate her rasp and break in her voice. Love it all!!!

  • Reflections On Life

Wow, it’s so surprising how polarizing elise is.  Even in this thread, an even split btwn those who love her singing and those who dislike it.  I wonder if she’s just as polarizing IRL, and if that in part is why her career hasn’t met with more success thus far. I think she was just born in the wrong decade; she’s a bit like carole king (or carly simon) with melisma and trills added.

Though she seems to have gotten from AI that she’s a rock singer, I do prefer her on the more spare bluesy tunes, like this song and Vienna, because those songs let her vocal expression (“artistry”) shine through.

  • Anonymous

Oh I’m sorry. I wasn’t aware that because I’m a fan of Joshua and Skylar I am not a true music lover. I love Elise, but she certainly wasn’t the only true musician left in the group.

  • Emmy

i see i’ve been missing nothing interesting skipping idol this year.

  • Tess

Elise just doesn’t rock my boat and I can’t get into her vocal interpretations.  Somewhere there is a melody but I couldn’t find it.

She did what she has a bad habit of doing, and that is taking a simple song and making it complicated.  That can get exhausting for the listener.  I think I finally understand what Randy meant about her “boxing” with a song.

I agree with this comment so much.  Never really analyzed it but the feeling I have during and after she sings is “exhaustion”.  Not because she sings badly, far from it, but because I find her singing pretty self-indulgent.  And what happens, for me, is that in the short time these songs have a chance to percolate I find the coffee luke warm.  Maybe when Elise gets a chance to sing for her supper and has all the time in the world to let a song marinate I’ll like her better.

  • Anonymous

I don’t find this amazing at all,  a decent lounge bar number.

  • Anonymous

Love Elise’s studio “Let’s Stay Together” and am listening as I type.  She sings it pretty much straight without too many embellishments – really beautiful.  Haven’t cared for anything since – don’t know if it’s been the songs or that her interpretations became more indulgent with all the ornamentation.

Her costumes, also, IMO, distracted from her appearance – appeared to favor “floaty” – sometimes one-shouldered – garments that were almost old-fashioned.  Her baby-doll dress in LIVE was a very poor choice.  She needs sleeker, more edgy outfits to make an impact.

I always wondered what pot heads sounded like. For some reason I imagined Joni Mitchell or Pink Floyd (and who can tell them apart anyway, amirite) but now I see pot heads sound like good, raspy blues.

    Thanks for the light bulb.

  • Ringo

She did what she has a bad habit of doing, and that is taking a simple song and making it complicated.

When ever I read comments like these I always harken back to the scene from Amadeus where the dilatant royal critiques Mozart’s opera.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoY0Qa0zU0A  Certainly a matter of taste so there is no right or wrong.  Maybe it’s because I have listened to so much jazz where just the straight melody is never the rule (unless you consider Kenny G a jazz musician) but I much prefer this to anything that, say, Hollie or Skylar might do.  I am bored by the “sing only the notes of the melody” singer.  It takes a village, I guess.

  • Ringo

For some reason I imagined Joni Mitchell or Pink Floyd (and who can tell them apart anyway, amirite? )

WTF?  Any mention of the real Queen, Joni Mitchell, in negative manner (even if it’s what I presume is tongue in check) cannot be left just laying there.  Neither JM nor her fans could be described as “pot head.”  Is it me getting cranky in my old age or is it getting dumb and dumber in here recently?

  • Anonymous

You do know Joni was a heroin addict, right?

  • Ringo

LOL.   Must.Not.Insult.Fellow.Posters.  Deep breath. . . .  Joni Mitchell was never a heroin addict.  Can’t even imagine that she would give up control of her life by turning to heroin.  Just the opposite, like others of her generation, she saw up close the toll of heroin addiction (with boyfriend James Taylor) and rejected it.  She even wrote about it.  Of course, she is reported to smoke cigarettes like a chimney, but I digress.

  • Anonymous

“You do know Joni was a heroin addict, right?”

    Wasn’t it cocaine?

  • Anonymous

Nope. You can google it easily enough but just watch this and you can see for yourself. I was and am a huge JM fan but she had a pretty severe addiction.

  • Anonymous

You are right, it was cocaine. My bad.

Either way pot head in a tongue in cheek post isn’t a slam.

“Soon after, Mitchell signed on with Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Review, a ragged, drug-soaked circus that also variously included Joan Baez, Mick Ronson, Roger McGuinn, Ronee Blakely, Allan Ginsburg and members of the Band. She soon became a frequent cocaine user.

“I realized you couldn’t stay on that thing straight — you’d be the only one,” she explains. “It was just insane.” Looking back, she says, the drugs had both “great and disastrous” effects: “I had terrible insomnia but I wrote a lot of epic poems,” including Song for Sharon, for many the masterpiece around which Hejira orbits.”

  • Ringo

Well, that clears it up.  When you first say she was a pot head, you clarified to say what you meant whe was a heroin addict, but now that really means she did cocaine (although not she was not an addict).  I guess, then, we are all heroin addicts (if you lived throught the 80′s) and potheads.  But it isn’t a slam (I mean, not in a bad way).  Gotta love the Internet!

  • Anonymous

Oh no, it is clear St. Joni never even smelled pot. How could anyone insult her like that?

    I’m done here.

  • Anonymous

Wow!  From Elise to Joni Mitchell to potheads!  I thought I was in the wrong thread for a bit.  I love Joni Mitchell, love love Joni Mitchell.  Elise is in very good company.

  • RockiDreams

Sorry could not even finish listening to the rest of that mess.  She is definitely not my kind of singer at all.  I’m with those that are glad she is gone from Idol.  I can still wish her loads of luck in her career though and do.

  • Anonymous

Wow. WTF? Closing this thread for clean up.

ETA: THE TOPIC IS ELISE. STAY ON IT.

  • Anonymous

    I thought she sounded great.

  • merkureye

Just got home.  Not allowed to stream content at work.  Couldn’t wait to hear Elise sing again!  All I can say is – Oh My Gosh!  This rendition is better than AI top 13 performance.  Slayed it. Killed it. That voice!  This song is virtually sung acapella and Elise’s voice fills the auditorium with beautiful sound.  What a gift!

I kid not, I feel a large void now that Elise is gone from AI show.  My only consolation is to know that she will be back for the finale, she will be on the Tour, and she WILL HAVE a public music career.

Big things in store for this young lady now that she has a national platform.  Seems that Kelly, Ellen, and others are surprised that the AI voters didn’t get Elise (I am too). They are under no obligation to say such things just to be nice or make her feel good.  Besides her unbelievable talent, Elise brought a lot of character interest to the show this year.  That is an intangible that I believe will be noticed by viewers for the rest of this season.

I’m gonna miss Queen Elise, She really need nailed/slayed/killed that adele song…

The judges compliment about p2 artistry but Elise is also an artist and she change it every week with her songs…probably there’s a difference with WGWG and artistry. Don’t want to talk about it…the point is WGWG is not equal to artistry

ETA: They were right about her giggles in every sentence that she said..LOL

  • Anonymous

Elise sounds really nice here.  She definitely brought something unique to the competition. Does anyone know if Idol pays for the contestants’ wardrobes during these kind of appearances? Her dress is pretty and looks great on her. (Great color on her).

  • getgetaway

That’s not really accurate.  Elise’s has gotten her share of praise for her artistry as well.  She was also given the last performing spot more than anyone else.  And P2 was the one she was closest to in the group.

However, I do think some of the other girls got more recognition than Elise.

Aw, Elise. Loved that. I like the combination of gritty and smooth in her vocals.  I realize her voice isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m going to miss her. There’s no one else this season that I care enough to watch for. I’ll be looking forward to hear off-Idol performances.

  • Anonymous

She sounds good but not my cup of tea…I feel like she can work better in more intimate scenes…jazz joints and such.

  • http://twitter.com/billschly Bill Schly

It’s not my fault you won’t be seeing her on your TV.  I voted for her like crazy.

  • Kitty Armistead

I power voted for 2 hours straight. I had my phone in my hand while I was voting online.  I’m not watching the show again until the finale. It’s been almost a week now, and her elimination still causes me actual emotional pain….*cue sad violin music*

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

I love how natural she is talking with those hosts, making jokes and everything.God I’ll miss her so muuch.

And I love the way she plays with the melodies, right know I can’t think of One and Only without those runs haha She just makes every note counts, I like that.I didn’t like that performance that much, because it lacked the power that it had on the show, but her vocal is just incredible.
