"Hummm. What is a 'true performer' ?? I wonder if James Taylor is a true performer? Or John Mayer? Or Keith Urban? Or any number of other singers who are not in the rocker vein. Does one have to wear leather and exaggerated eye make up to be a 'true performer' ? Maybe it is necessary to gyrate and have a sexual encounter with the microphone stand to be a 'true performer' . Maybe Kris isn't going for 'true performer' . Maybe he is looking more towards singing entertainer. He certainly entertains me with his singing."

To me, a 'true performer' in nature in a pop concert is simply a showman who can bring forth visual effects with auditory pleasures. While Kris Allen is definitely a great musician and singer (note I am by no means trying to compare their (Adam and Kris) vocal abilities because to me they are both immensely talented). Kris to me is not a "true performer" because there is no DRAMA/Theatrical effects when he performs. The same goes true for James Taylor, John Mayer and Keith Urban. They are all great singers and all have sell out concerts so of course they are entertaining. The entertainers that I would categorize as 'true performers' are Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Adam Lambert just to name a few. JMHO

<blockquote>And so it goes. </blockquote>

NATX - I too love me some Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse Five references!

<blockquote>A word to the fans, please do not scream while the performer is singing. We are there to hear them sing first and foremost. It is disrespectful/distracting to the performer and to the fans. Scream all you want between songs but not during. I hope Adam can enforce this when he has his solo tour.</blockquote>

I agree EK about the screaming. Just do it between songs and before and after. It's a shame not to hear the singing! I also think signs should be banned as well. They block too many people's view.

SORRY EK, that You thought that Adam's performance wasn't up to par. As it turned out he left immediately after the show in a private car and was seen by a doctor later. He obviously was not feeling well and possibly was having throat problems (gee, I wonder why with the grueling schedule he has plus trying to record his new album on days off) and was seen sucking on lozenges to ease his throat. I think it's great that he pushes himself to perform so that he doesn't disappoint his fans instead of maybe (God forbid) cancel out for the night! He's only human, yes, Mr. SuperDelicious can not feel well once in a while just like the rest of us. So I'm sending him lovingkindness and compassion and hope that he gets the rest that he needs before the shows in D.C. and Baltimore. Sometimes we expect too much from our super-heroes, he has even been asking in a very sweet way for people to stop screaming in his face at the barracaes for the meet/greets! His ears must ring for days! I was lucky enough to meet him at Staples Center in L.A. and he LOVES his fans, so it takes something big for him to miss going outside after the show. Maybe he can get some much need rest this coming thurday, I hope so!

<blockquote> think my answer for people who scream all throughout songs, if not physical violence, is just to bring a duck call. </blockquote>

brilliant, LOL......nothing wrong w. having a good time (dancing, groving, standing, clapping, cheering, singing along)...HOWEVER, screaming in my ear throughtout the whole set? grrrrrrrrrrr...where's that duck call?

Chillax y'all. Just have a beverage and enjoy the show. Heck yeah I screamed. I went to the tour to support the Idols and I couldn't sit back on my hands and be quiet. Whoever can sit still and be quiet through Matt's Hard to Handle and Adam's Whole Lotta Love has a lot of self restraint that I don't have. ;-P</blockquote>

Gosh, I'm not seeing it ' ¦ the videos from the NC shows are great ' ¦ maybe this perception is colored by the 'adam's not coming out because he's not feeling well' reporting.</blockquote>

Well from the limited Greensboro videos we have, he's definitely dialed down on his vocals. WLL still has the high notes but it's a lot less frequent than the previous performances. In the Bowie performance it's very obvious that he's improvising mostly on his lower register. I do believe he is having a cold.

But as far as his vocals being "weak" in his other earlier performances, I'm not seeing it at all.

Yes Matt is totally self taught never had one music lesson. He said he learned from pure passion. He would just sit at the piano and play from his heart. Matt's passion for music is what I love most about him. Thanks for the great review!

I've noticed that Adam looks really exhausted and his voice sounds weak lately. It doesn't surprise me that he couldn't deliver his best performances. </blockquote>

I've noticed that Adam looks really exhausted and his voice sounds weak lately. It doesn't surprise me that he couldn't deliver his best performances. He might have the physical strain of delivering performances now. We all know that he is not perfect. But he has got great reviews from most of the media, so I don't know why some people are being so negative here.

EK
<blockquote><em>"Matt-I was blown away! Hard to handle was so entertaining especially when he started jamming on the piano. It was hot. Having played the piano since I was 6, Matt is a genius on the keyboard. Whatever he did on the show (TV) didn't do him justice at all. He is quite a showman and I have just become a fan and would now go see him live on his solo tour. His voice also has improved quite a bit, transitioning from his lower register to falsetto seemed much more effortless now"</em></blockquote>

Great review! I just wanted to say something about Matt that I'm not sure many people know. He's self taught and only been playing the piano for 5 years. I totally agree w/ your statement that he's a genius on the keys. & I love his falsetto. His talent is amazing and God-given. I'm so proud of him! I hope he continues to impress you and so many others!

Thanks for your recap, EK ... does anyone ever call you EEEEEK? Sorry, white wine sangrias at dinner tonight! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
I'm especially glad that your experience at the barricades (why are they called that? I keep thinking of Les Miz!) was peaceful ... I know I would be disappointed to not see Adam but you kept it in perspective and didn't rant about it. Thanks!

<blockquote>To make a long rant short (yes, too late I know), I'm afraid he's being set up for failure and will be done in by his own success.</blockquote>

Oh, come on, NatX ... if you'll recall, you were dubbed Natbert after your review so I think even you are falling under the Adam spell! The first step toward healing is admission - so admit it! All I have to say is that at the concert I attended, I spent the entire time of Adam's set whispering Paula/Kara-isms: OMG, absolutely breathtaking, we'll see you in the finals, who has a range like that?, who sings like that? With all of his training in theatre, one thing you can be sure of is Adam doesn't disappoint! Oops, I'll probably get deleted ... but I'm not attacking you! You've proven that you can take it!!

Thanks for your recap, EK … does anyone ever call you EEEEEK? Sorry, white wine sangrias at dinner tonight! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
I’m especially glad that your experience at the barricades (why are they called that? I keep thinking of Les Miz!) was peaceful … I know I would be disappointed to not see Adam but you kept it in perspective and didn’t rant about it. Thanks!

To make a long rant short (yes, too late I know), I’m afraid he’s being set up for failure and will be done in by his own success.
