Edward Norton – SNL – Obamacare, Wes Anderson, Miley Cyrus, Alec Baldwin and More

Saturday Night Live - Season 39

Edward Norton is kind of an odd choice for Saturday Night Live host. Although he did recently star in in The Lonely Island’s music video, Spring Break Anthem, with Andy Samberg, Zach Galifinakis, James Franco, his last movie was 2012’s Moonrise Kingdom. Usually hosts are pimping something.

But it’s cool. It’s fun to watch Edward inhabit other characters. He’s a gifted impressionist and has great comic timing. Take a look at some of the night’s best skits.

The opening pokes fun at the cluster eff that is Healthcare.gov.

Edward Norton’s monologue was going swimmingly. I was delighted when Alex Baldwin appeared. But then my buzz was totally harshed when Miley Cyrus made a cameo. Like…WHYYYYYY? She wasn’t even a very good host. She has advice for first time host, Norton. Is the joke that he hardly needs advice from the acting-challenged Miley?

This parody imagines what it would be like if Wes Anderson directed a horror movie. Delicious. My favorite bit of the night. Norton and the cast were A+.

The Wes Anderson bit was great…every bit and every character was priceless, even Stop Motion Mouse…lol…..I’ll be keeping this to watch over and over.
I love Edward Norton and knew he would do a terrific job. I loved the skit with him as the officer trying to warn the kids about candy & strangers.. It’s not up online yet or I would post it …the “students” were awesome esp Nasim

mostly everyone who watched Miley on SNL thought she did fantastic. I thought it was one of the best episodes of SNL I’d seen in quite a while.

and I’m guessing Miley showed up because Lorne Michael asked her too. People don’t just randomly pop up in the middle of someone’s monologue uninvited.

Really? I thought she was a decidedly sub-par host and reviews I’ve read after her appearance seem to concur. She proved that she is unfunny and has no sense of humour. Her cameo last night didn’t fit in….she is such a fame tart. (Last time I used the term “fame whore” I got chastised…so I softened it a bit.) ;)

Edward Norton was wonderful. I really liked his impersonation of Owen Wilson in the horror movie advertisement. I thought Miley did OK as a host/musical guest, but she seemed to have no purpose last night in the monologue. I guess she has good agents who are trying to capitalize on her having hosted the show a few weeks. (The rerun of SNL prior to the new episode was hers.) In the cast, I am really liking Kate McKinnon, Taran Killam, and Noel Wells.

Don’t understand the objection to Miley. The opening monologue is supposed to be full of jokes and Miley giving hosting advice was one of them.

P.S. I’m not knocking her, just pointing out that SNL is supposed to be funny.

I didn’t see her hosting but, if she was a sub-par host, the idea of her giving advice works even better.

and I’m guessing Miley showed up because Lorne Michael asked her too.

Gosh. I thought she just walked onto the soundstage and crashed the party,. Thanks for setting me straight.

Lorne Michaels invited her back because she’s a “thing” right now. Don’t think it had anything to do with how she did as a host.

I actually suggested that in my write up, that she was giving Edward Norton, an accomplished actor advice, Yes. Miley’s appearance was supposed to be a joke in a joke filled monologue of course.

Regardless, I’m still sick of her popping up everywhere.

Thx for the clips MJ! It is about time Edward Norton did the show!. The Wes Anderson spoof hilarious. Great Owen Wilson impression. OW has the most annoying voice of almost any actor–ha! Loved the cold open too.
EN grew up in Columbia MD which is about 20/25 min from Baltimore. My SIL’s sister was in his class in HS. She said he’s was a nice guy and was known for being a brain. (In fact, his grandfather’s company was behind the planned city of Columbia which was a huge thing back in the day. I remember we had a field trip there when I was in school. His company also did the Baltimore Harbor Place among other things)

I stopped watching SNL long ago. It has it’s moments, but is mostly not funny. These clips are, though.

Also sick of Miley being everywhere.

I guess when you ask WHHHHYYY you should expect someone to “set you straight” MJ even if you’re being snarky.

Your constant bashing of Miley reeks of something deeper than just being offended by her antics.

  • waitingforthe1

is Miley really everywhere? In my daily life I never hear anything of her.

and if MJ is really sick of her why report on her every move?

    Makes no sense IMO.

Miley was a stellar host when she hosted back in 2011 she really was a star, this time around she did ok, but she is certainly a pro, she had good timing performed well knew all her lines, but yeah last time wasn’t fantastic

  • elliegrll

Lorne Michaels invited her back because she’s a “thing” right now. Don’t think it had anything to do with how she did as a host.

It would make sense that she was invited back for both reasons. Her episode received good ratings, and a lot of buzz, so why not have her back?

  • elliegrll

The reviews that I’ve read have been positive.

  • DragonFly

MC –Except for her looking presentable popping in, it was obviously about extending her 15 mins . She may have a longer run from it but trust there are people who don’t agree she’s IT. (No problem FFing her) I actually found her “different” in a good way about a yr ago on a talk show—has she crossed that line now?—for me & likely enough others, no longer impressed.

On the other hand, found Ed Norton entertaining. His impressions & the policeman vs. clueless kids were highlights. Sounded exactly like Owen Wilson. Great movie actor too!
