Duets – THE FINALE! Video and Recap

Who will win DUETS? The champion will win a a record contract from Hollywood Records. Live blogging the Finale!

The Winner: J.Rome
Second place: John Glosson
Third place: Jason Farol

The J. Rome win was anti-climatic and totally telegraphed from the 1st week of this competition. Zz.  He wins a recording contract from Hollywood Records, but I suspect we’ll never hear from him again. Or if we do, it will be to tsk over his abysmal album sales.

Honestly, I didn’t care who won. I’m a Kelly fan–it would have been nice to see her and Jason Farol get some satisfaction. But eh. Maybe I’m not THAT big of a stan. I hope Kelly takes a tip from her pal and involved Voice coach, Blake Shelton, and stays in touch with her amateurs–including Jordan Meredith. They are going to need all the help she can give them.

Tonight’s best performances were Jennifer and Kelly throwing down some Eurythmics with ‘Would I Lie To You Baby” and the blistering, soulful “Gimme Shelter” from Bridget and John. Yeah. Girls rule.

The performances from the Top 3 weren’t their best ever. I’ll go with Kelly and Jason as my favorite because more Kelly is always a good thing.

With weekly low ratings, I don’t see Duets coming back for another season.

Jennifer Nettles has two amateurs left in the competition- John Glosson and J. Rome. Kelly’s guy, Jason Farol is still in it.

The show opens with Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Nettles duet on the Eurythmics “Would I Lie To You” HOT.

Quddus arrives in a snappy tuxedo. He looks out of place. The 8 armatures are back this week. A few will even sing.

John Legend and Bridget Carrington sing “Gimme Shelter”. She should have been in the final last week. I wish the duo had performed this in competition, it’s TOTALLY FIERCE.

Robin Thicke and Olivia Chisholm sing “Fever” – And Olivia is off key. Immediately. Actually, this is much better than most of their competition performances. Sultry is in their wheelhouse.

Next we take a trip through memory lane with John Glosson and Jennifer Nettles before they sing a last duet. Oh. They are singing “For Good” from Wicked. Uhm. Where is Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel when you need them. Or even Chris Colfer and Lea Michele. Just kidding. Not my favorite version, but the song served well as a touching tribute to each other. Their voices blend nicely and it’s obvious there’s affection between the two. Oh. Ha! John admitted that the producer ASKED him to “cry a lot” in video packages.

Next is Kelly Clarkson and Jason Farol! They’ve also had quite the journey. Jason is the scrappy one, climbing his way from the bottom to the final 3. They sing “Heartbreak Hotel” by Elvis Presley. Kelly is ON FIRE, but young Jason just doesn’t have the swagger to pull this song off. It’s like Kelly singing with her kid brother. Which isn’t that far off. Jason needs a few more years to mature. He’s actually got potential.

Let’s travel back in time with Jennifer Nettles and J. Rome! Did Jennifer just say she wanted J. Rome to win? Picking favorites. They sing “Rhythm of the Night” by DeBarge. I’m not really down with this song choice.  Cheesy 80s songs is the best you can do here? Worst song choice of the night. J. Rome went off key while he was wooing during the bridge. Eh.

RESULTS!  Kelly thinks Jason has shown the most growth. She’s so proud of him. Robin thinks America chose right. John would sign J. Rome. Kelly admits that she really wanted to win!

The Winner: J.Rome
Second place: John Glosson
Third place: Jason Farol

J. Rome sings out with “Singed Sealed and Delivered” by Stevie Wonder.
